Colorworks NE is without a doubt, the best painters I have ever hired. Walt and his son Chris were so professional, timely, efficient, and thorough. Honestly, I was amazed on the finished product; they are true Artist and it is obvious they love what they do. I highly recommend hiring Colorworks NE. You will not be disappointed if you do. They painted 3 bedrooms, 1 hallway, and 2 bathrooms, Walls, ceilings and trim in 3 days. They moved and worked around our furniture and also provided all products for the job. After the job they cleaned up perfectly. Absolutely Amazing BV

Walt and Chris were wonderful to work with. They were on time, they made suggestions regarding the period pieces which have really enhanced the character of the house, and they were professional in every regard. The clean up that they did each night made our house livable and relatively comfortable despite the ongoing work. We absolutely recommend them and plan to hire them again in the spring.

Walt and Chris did a great job painting the master bedroom in my century old home. My project needed a lot of prep work -- the trim was in bad shape, the walls had large cracks, plaster was coming down in areas. They tackled all these challenges. They were on time every day and gave me frequent updates on the progress of the project. They went above and beyond to meet my high expectations. They were great with my dogs who were in the house with them while I was work during the day.

Very well. Walt and his son, Chris, were undaunted to take on a project where I had to fire the previous painter. They jumped in and fixed the poor previous painting and added a professional look to what was a disaster created by the fired painter. I highly recommend Walt and Chris for your interior painting needs. The paint job was excellently done and Walt and Chris are a joy to work with.

This project was the 5th time that we've hired Walt and Chris to paint our internal home or business. We've chosen Colorworks NE consistently as Walt and Chris are excellent at what they do but also treat each job with integrity and care for the finished product. Walt and Chris not only made our house feel like our home again each time, but they were incredibly professional, friendly, and efficient throughout the process. We are happy with how the newly painted walls and trim look, but we will always remember how Walt and Chris made us feel during a time of stress. I highly recommended Colorworks NE!
Description of Work: Walt and Chris Moon completed a beautiful trim refinish after we experienced water damage. The project wasn't one we had planned for and by the time Walt took on our project, we'd had no kitchen and/or washroom for some time and were quite stressed.

Great! Walt and Chris went beyond the scope of our project! They saw other things that needed doing in our 1914 house and did them promptly and professionally. They worked together as a team and did not waste any time doing so. They have a postive attitude too! They gave us many recommendations for appropriate colors and types of paint (sheen, primers etc). We increased the scope of our project after they arrived by asking them to paint our hallway which had some scrapes and marks. They did a superb on that as well, and didn't charge us extra. Our unfinished basement rec room needed special waterproof primer, then a coat of paint, and then the floor. They suggested colors that work well in a basement, and we couldn't be happier. Now we have a great place to work out and don't dread doing it! Their charge for all this was VERY reasonable and we would not hesitate to hire them again. We highly recommend.

They (he and his son) did nice work and were easy to deal with and schedule -- he'll give you an estimate, as it depends on when he finishes the jobs ahead of you . Won't really give an estimate before hand as to how long a job will take, but was pretty accurate once he arrived and took a look. I'd say the value was fair to good once the additional time to complete our job was added to our Angie's List deal.

Walt and Chris were on time, cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day and were able to get us into their schedule right away. We purchased the paint and they did the actual painting. They also caulked the top of the baseboard trim so the edges looked clean and sharp (previous paint was slopped on the top of the baseboards). Walt and Chris are very knowledgeable and were very personable. Definitely would hire them again!
Description of Work: Purchased a new 2,200 sq ft home and wanted to get the common areas (giant living/dining room, front hall, kitchen, hallways up and down and lower level of the split which included a 20 x 30 "living room") painted prior to moving in. We have about a 12' peak in the center of the living room with a wall of windows and they did a great job on those! We did not have the ceilings painted.

This is a father and son team who work extremely well together. They were very neat and tidy and carefully covered the floors and stair steps. They were informative, courteous, and performed services exactly as promised. They gave me options to choose from regarding the amount of prep work on filling in chips and sanding, which made it pretty painless to make decisions. They shared information on how I could do some of the work in other rooms and gave me access to their professional account, at their discount rate, at their paint provider. They arrived on time and stayed with the job through completion. I am extremely pleased with their work.

I would never hire Colorworks NE again. They insist on charging by the hour, freeing them up to work as slowly as they would like and make inaccurate estimates. It took them 5 1/2 days and $4,600 for them to paint 16 windows (an average of $287.50 per window!). I would have felt fine paying this amount for excellent work but the work they did was just mediocre. Four of the windows were carelessly painted shut along the way and had to be reworked, but we were charged an additional amount for the extra time it took them to correct their mistake. In the end they left our house a MESS, with furniture piled up all over the place (see attached pic). They also left 6 of our downstairs windows unlocked when they left the job at noon - creating a SECURITY HAZARD. Walt said the right things but how he conducted his work was a different story. It is unsettling to think that we relied on a company with these sorts of sloppy practices to keep me and my family safe from the lead work that they were doing.

Response from Colorworks NE
The job consisted of painting (both sides) 16 double hung French windows that had been striped, dismantled and re-roped. Six of the windows requiring painting were at the top of an extension ladder. It was a 1920's house, occupied by a pregnant woman, that tested positive for lead. The windows had been re-roped. This process entailed dismantling and removing all paint down to bare wood on the working parts of the window, The re-rope contractor also replaced all hardware on the windows (locks, pulls, etc.) The contractor did a good job, but windows are far from paint ready when he completed his portion of the job. We were to paint windows in the house and make sure the house can be occupied every night before leaving the job. This meant we had to maintain a very clean job site, which we did nightly at great expense. Double hung windows are very technical to paint. There are 13 steps that must be completed with great attention to detail. Step 1-the room must be covered and masked daily to protect from dust. Step 2-remove hardware and store. Step 3-sand to reduce character. Step 4-oil prime all windows. Step 5-caulk and fill holes, cracks, etc. Step 6-sand windows again. Step 7-apply first coat of paint. Step 8-sand windows again. Step 9-apply second coat of paint. Step 10-sand windows again and apply tongue oil to non-painted window slide area. Step 11-apply topcoat of paint. Step 12-clean glass. Step 13-replace hardware. Please note these steps had to be completed on both sides of the windows. I gave the customer a 7 day estimate. We also discussed how we work by the hour and are paid up in full every other day; 16 hours =$1600 plus materials. Every time the customer pays, the budget is discussed and I must be invited to continue the job. It was also agreed to work on upper floor first and bring those 8 windows to completion before moving onto the second half of the project. At the end of the job, we were $400 over the phone estimate provided to the customer, this adds up to 10 minutes over budget per window. Working conditions were very unpleasant. Working outside was complicated by an all natural landscape with a tangle of weeds 5 feet tall and a free range large dog. Inside, I was responsible to protect personal items such as toothbrushes, and in order to access the sink, I had to do the dishes. The customer did not respect me or my work. In response to leaving the house a mess, we had to move things all over the house to protect their belongings. Everything was covered and clean. The house was put back together to the best of our abilities, especially since the customer was not present when we put things back (she left soon after we told her we would be done in an hour). In response to leaving the house unlocked, the windows were still wet when we completed the job. Windows could not be locked at that time or they would have gotten stuck (again, customer left the house when she was informed we would be done in an hour). My son and I are committed to meeting the needs of our customers and we DO NOT take advantage of charging an hourly fee. In the future, I will make sure the customer understands that paying me by the hour means I will be compensated for pulling weeds, doing dishes, picking up dog poop, and handling of personal items such as toothbrushes and laundry.

When I contacted Walt, he put me on the schedule and told me the kind of paint to buy for my project. Walt and his son arrived on the scheduled day and we went over what I needed done. I had new floors installed but the installed quarter round was not painted before it was installed. Walt and his son caulked and painted the new quarter round as well as the baseboards. Walt's son fixed the sash cords on 2 of my windows. He did a great job, and he touched up the window after he was done. I also had them paint my kitchen, paint the new baseboards in the kitchen, and touch up my kitchen cabinets. My project took one full day plus 3 hours the next day. The charge $100 per hour plus all materials used. They did a great job! I am very happy with the results! They cleaned up the mess before they left and even put my furniture back. I will use them in the future!

I have used NE Colorworks three times and am very pleased with their work. Walt and his son Chris do a meticulous job. They have painted several rooms and all my ceilings. The latest work involved priming and painting three new doors and frames both inside and out. They also painted three large window frames inside and out. Everything took several coats of paint to meet their standards. They arrive on time, are considerate and pleasant to have in your home, and clean up when they finish. I would highly recommend their work.

From the moment I connected with Walt on the phone, I felt like he knew exactly what I wanted. He was very helpful, gave me advice about the right paint, and encouraged my ideas for color. These guys are a two-man business, so they are very busy. Walt was very up-front about scheduling challenges and the possibility that our scheduled date might slip, depending on how individual projects went. He kept us informed as we got closer to our date. I could not be happier about the way our room looks, and the methodical approach they took in completing the job. They were friendly, professional and efficient. I have asked them to come back to paint additional rooms!
Description of Work: Walt and Chris painted our rather large, unwieldy bedroom. The vaulted ceiling had been painted brown, so it was very cave-like. Our own fault, but we couldn't face repainting it.

I found Walt on Angie's list. I called to schedule a visit to see whether he could paint our ceilings and walls before our new carpeting arrived. First some history on our home. Our home is 20 years old and the ceilings had not been repainted because we could not reach them. We were told repeatedly by many other vendors that it would require expensive scaffolding to be set up and that the crack in the center area from the house heating and cooling would not be able to be repaired. So with that in mind, I had hopes that he could do the job, but in the back of my mind, I thought he would most likely tell me that he wouldn't be able to do it. Walt arrived and took one look at the area and didn't even bat an eyelash and said it was completely doable and that he estimated it would take 2 days and no scaffolding AND he would be rolling the paint on the ceiling. This was music to my ears because we had thought it would need to be sprayed which doesn't look as nice and is messy. Walt and Ryan arrived on schedule and went right to work. Walt taped off areas while Ryan cut in. A few hours later, Chris arrived and started rolling the paint on. Let me add that Walt, Ryan, and Chris are an awesome team and my husband and I enjoyed watching them do their magic. Seriously, they are incredible and were able to finish all of the areas in 1 day, not 2!!! That alone was wonderful, but I would have gladly been happy with two if it would have been necessary. AND, he was able to greatly minimize the crack in the ceiling. It's hardly noticeable now. I am a customer for life and will only work with Walt and his team from now on. He made sure we were happy and even noticed an area that needed a touch up that we hadn't noticed. He is a true professional and it shows. Thank you Walt! I look forward to having you back again.

Walter called to get details, schedule, and tell me where to go to get his discount on paint. He called me a few days before he came to let me know they were a little backed up, but would let me know the night before if he had to reschedule since I was taking a day off from work to get this done. The night before, I got an approximate arrival time, and he arrived with his crew when he said he would. They were all very nice and professional. The work was meticulous. They weren't able to complete the job on the same day because of the rescheduled time, so they came the next day without me needing to take time off work, using my garage code. Nice work- would use them again.

He guaranteed me a price and then jacked it up. Gave us a price over the phone of $800 plus paint. Found out there was more work to do on the bathroom wall in the main floor bathroom then was planned. That was fine but didn't figure on all the extra supplies cost and the total price of $1800. He had told us the day before because of the problem with the bad wall in the bathroom he would still top the price out at $1200.needless to say when we got the final bill of all the extra supplies cost plus him telling us that he had thought about the $1200 top out price and coming back the next morning to give us the price of $1800.

What we have here is a failure to communicate. When I first talked to the customer, the job included wallpaper removal, texturing and painting of three areas in one of Portland’s finer homes. It is impossible to bid this type of a job because wallpaper does not often cooperate and the condition of the wall under the paper is unknown and the drying time of the various steps is a big factor. After explaining this to the customer, it was decided the Angie’s list coupon I offer would be the best fit for this job. The coupon is a $300 minimum where you get two men, my son and myself, $100 an hour and customer pays for all materials. This job was full of variables from start to finish. In an attempt to save money, the customer decided to have a third party remove the wallpaper prior to us starting the job. This decision proved to be a disaster. The person who removed the wallpaper had no idea what he was doing and he caused severe wall damage. In some places, the sheetrock should have been replaced. This is the point where we talked about the budget and it was clear the customer had unrealistic expectations and that the budget was getting too much attention; especially for a higher end home. I gave the customer an optimistic estimate of what it would take to finish the project. I told him we would freeze the labor cost at $1200. On day 2, the walls continued to fight me every step of the way. I talked to the customer about the possibility the damage was severe enough to require a drywall contractor, and that this was between him and the wallpaper person. I was told to continue with my efforts, that they had faith in my abilities. The job grew a bit, I was told to add painting of some ceilings, enamel woodwork, remove old caulking and re-caulk around the tub. We are used to things being added and it is made clear that this would affect the final bill. The job ended up taking 2 men 20 hours. When I finished the job I met with the customers to go over the bill. I had receipts for the materials and an accounting of the hours. Mr. Customer had to go outside to attend to another project so I discussed the bill with Mrs. Customer. We discussed the add-ons and the material bills. We also talked about the $1200 cap not being applicable due to the added on work. I explained how the wall damage had nothing to do with me and that the decision to have the paper removed by an unexperienced contractor was where the job went wrong. However, in the spirit of a compromise, I billed the job out at 16 hours. Mrs. Customer agreed with the bill and wrote a check for the full amount. The work we did came out perfect and I was very proud to walk around the job with Mrs. Customer, we talked about future work and I got a hug when I left. I guess after I left she was unable to communicate to him that the bill was fair and he felt it necessary to drag me through the mud. It is my hope that after reading this he will see that trying to save $50 in the wallpaper removal in hindsight was a bad idea, and that making me responsible for this is not fair. I feel the customer owes me an apology and a fair review.

Walt and his son Chris were outstanding. They approximated 7 days for the job and luckily it took less time since they were able to have a few people including his daughter help out for a weekend. Also luckily for us, the total cost was less than the initial bid! It was so wonderful working with a such a great family business. It was clear that they were experienced (they showed me the errors of the previous painters) and yet they are so friendly and personable. I?m in love with my house now and it was money well spent. I?ll definitely use them again!
