I Got the Angie's List deal for $275 you were to receive $500 worth off any service. But the cost of the roof cleaning was $775 and they only took off $275. I have never run in to this before, this was not a coupon deal. I just payed $275 ahead of time. The roof looks bran-new and all the moss gone. I might use the company again but Angie's list needs to explain the Big Deal coupons better.

I would not use this company again and could not recommend his work to anyone. First, he showed up later than scheduled. Even though we had an Angie's Deal and he and I had discussed on the phone, he then tried to upsell his services to my wife. When I had to come back from work to talk with him, he declined to do the job as described and told me that I "needed to read the fine print". [Unfortunately, I didn't have the coupon with me or would have pointed out the fine print to him]. Then, he demeaned Angie's List saying that they had conned him into offering this deal and that he was losing money. He "compromised" and gave me "the full value of the coupon" for what we agreed needed to be done. He forgot that the payment had been $275 for $500 worth of services and he only gave me credit for $275. So basically, I prepaid him to come do the cleaning. After this, he had his assistant do the washing. Although the roof is clean, they left the downspouts full. I had to hire someone else to come out and clean them as they were completely full of moss and pine needles (they had been clean before he arrived). They also "washed" the dirt that fell onto the front of the house using the power washer. That might be okay on a newer house, but we have an old 1915 Crafstman with original windows and I had to spend 2 hours cleaning all of the water and debris that got sprayed in through the windows. Even though we had been promised a clean work area, they left with a mess all around the house and in the yard from debris that had been blown off. Part of the job had been to look for areas that needed repair. He said that they had a lot of experience in roof repair. However, they must have missed the open spot in the roof that they washed resulting in a leak into the ceiling that I now have to replace (I hired someone else to do the repairs that they missed.

They did a great job cleaning and treating the roof and replaicing a whole bunch of curled and split shakes. They took pride in their work and go out of their way to make sure that everything was done to my satisfaction.

See above...we did not use them, we chose another company as this company's approach and responses made us uncomfortable.

Using the deal on Angie's list for roof cleaning worked well. We were informed beforehand there would be an additional charge for the moss removal, there was so much of it. We found the cost reasonable. Both the man who first came out to look over the job and the man who actually did the work were very professional.

When Ed looked at the roof and evaluated the moss he said there was too much buildup to just blow it off, which was what the coupon covered and said the results would be much better if I had it pressure washed. The total estimate of the cost with pressure wash was $950, which I have no doubt was a reasonable price. From that Ed deducted the coupon price of $275. My issue is that the coupon was supposed to be a "Big Deal" covering a service that would normally cost almost $500. In the end the coupon had no value other than as a prepayment on the normal cost of the job. Ed did offer to include my walkway in the job since it was so much more than I had expected to pay. The quality of the work was excellent. My roof and walkway look really good and included a guarantee of no moss for 3 years and an agreement that Ed would call towards the end of the three year period to check up on this. He has assured me that he has treated many roofs that have remained moss-free with this treatment, including those of many of his neighbors. They were very punctual and did a good job of protecting my landscape plants and left everything very tidy on completion. I am very pleased with the result, but not at all pleased that I ended up paying full price. This is the first "Big Deal" I have bought through Angie's list, and after this experience I would be reluctant to buy another one.

Came on a Monday and finished up on Thursday. He did a nice job of explaining what was needed and sufficiently answered all of my questions. Price seemed appropriate for the scope of the job. We would recommend him.

I called in the summer and it was suggested we wait until early fall. I had scheduled an appointment for September 9 at 8:30 AM and Ed and crew arrived promptly. Because I had about 15 years of moss accumulated, simply blowing the moss off would not suffice so I agreed to do have my roof pressure washed for another $395. It took much water to do complete the work and the cleanup was a task as well, but the job was pretty well done. The gutters were also pressure washed. We waited 4 days to let the roof dry thoroughly before applying a treatment that was guaranteed to keep the moss growth at bay for at least 3 years, since a shady front yard promotes considerable moss growth. Now, my roof looks almost new and I hope it stays that way for a long time. I did not know that the water tank would be emptied onto my driveway, which flooded my walkway for a day. It would have been better to put the water on plants that needed it. I have a narrow driveway but the driver was skilled at backing in without a problem. Ed, the owner, put me on his list for a visit in a few years for a reapplication of the moss killer.

I purchased an Angies List Coupon for 275$ to include roof and gutter cleaning and roof treatment. They called several times to reschedule, got the address wrong and eventually showed-up on the wrong day. They were fast but did poor quality work. The needles from my roof were blown off into the bushes and when they were done the roof looked no cleaner than before they started. Come the first rain my gutters were dripping, I climbed-up to take a look and found them full of debris. So in the end, I paid 275$ for nothing.

Shake roof needed cleaning, coupon was for blowing off roof (not pressure washer), and treating roof. In original discussions they suggested other additional cost options (pressure wash, replacing damaged shakes at $150 per bundle of shakes - a typical price, my detached garage could also be cleaned and treated. I did not choose pressure washing. I did ask them to replace 2 bundles worth of shakes. I asked them to blow off the detached garage. They agreed to these. They were prompt, cheerful & courteous but I think they left the decision to clean the detached garage off up to the person doing the work, and that person decided not to. They didn't charge me for it but it was a little confusing. I'm OK with it but just wanted to comment on that. I told them they did not have to haul off the debris, just deposit it in the wooded area next to my house. They were tidy.

I bought an Angies List Big Deal, but it was not a great deal for me because I have a concrete tile roof and the deal did not specify that in the description. Also, I think Angies List let me and this provider down by overwhelming this company with business, so it was difficult for me to schedule and get good service. I had work performed, but it wasn't the service I needed; I really needed a pressure wash and I got a "blow off". I bought four Angies List Big Deal offers; three went really well, but when this one went poorly, I asked Angies List for some sort of relief, perhaps a partial refund. I got a response a couple days later and they will take my feedback under consideration, but no resolution for me. Lesson learned: Beware of buying a Big Deal if you are not absolutely sure the service and the provider is a perfect match. This is difficult to do because the Big Deal suggests you do not contact the provider. This is an odd suggestion, since the description may not be complete and detailed. Therefore, Angie's List should have supporting information with additional details. Until then, buyer beware of Angies List deals.

Update After I posted the original review, Ed contacted me and communicated that he felt his team could do a good job if I gave him a second chance. We scheduled the work (what was originally included with the coupon) in December and the quality was very good. I appreciated Ed's responsiveness and service recovery, as well as the work which was ultimately completed. I have updated my review scores to reflect this improved experience. Original Review - July 2011 I bought an Angie's deal coupon for $275 and emailed to follow-up. We scheduled an appointment to review the job relatively quickly and they arrived on-time (early, actually). He assessed the situation and said my cedar roof needed cleaning with a high-volume, low pressure wash which was not included in the coupon. He said that, without the wash, it would not make sense to have him do the coupon work since it would be like "waxing a dirty car." The quote for the total job with the washing was over $1100. He offered to deduct the $275 coupon and have me pay the difference. I was disappointed with the breathtaking scope of the up-sell ($275 changed to over $1100!), with the incomplete description of the coupon which left me in a situation where I paid $275 for something the vendor told me would have no value, and then I was surprised that he only offered a $275 deduction for the coupon. That $275 was what I PAID - so I was effectively being offered ZERO value for the coupon - it was just being treated as a pre-payment, whereas the original coupon offered services valued at approximately $500. He should have offered to deduct $500 from the $1100, not $275. As a result, I have not used the coupon or proceeded with the project yet and probably won't since I was disappointed with the service thus far. I also began to ask about the process or cleaning and finishing my decks with the intent of asking for a quote for his services to do that work, but he was impatient and told me he was "paying his helper to stand around" while he answered my questions so that conversation ended.

I couldn't be happier with the service. I know I'll be using NW Surface Cleaner again.

Roof was scheduled for cleaning shortly after BID in May. Repairs were done and roof treated in early June when we had a window of dry weather. Ed was involved at the beginning of day and they did a great job of protecting all of plants, patio and their clean up was great. His BID had included 1 and a half bundle of shakes and he had indicated that he did not think it would take more than 1-2 more.After repair I did not get a phone call which I told him later I would have liked to have had to tell me that the repairs had included roof caps and more bundles than estimated. When final treatment was done and it came time to pay the bill it was more than I had anticipated. I told him this and he adjusted the bill accordingly so that I felt we agreed on a fair price. The AM after the treatment noticed spots on the driveway and called ED. I appreciated that he came out early the next day and cleaned the driveway. My only suggestion to Ed would be to coordinate with his roof repair guy so that the customer was told during the process that the estimate for bundles was going over amount. Communication is the key piece in having a happy customer. Our roof looks good and I will have his company back in the fall to keep roof clean since we live in a forested area with many pine an dlots of shade.

Use this guy at your peril. He's a con man. 1) He underestimated the cost of the job by underestimating the number of bundles of shakes needed to repair the roof by quite alot. He did this with a neighbor as well, so it doesn't appear that it was just an error. 2) He told my husband he would wait a few days between washing and treating to make sure the roof was thoroughly dry (this was at my husband's request).When he came the next day after washing he called us crazy, was abusive, said the roof was dry and went ahead and treated it anyway. 3) In less than a year, areas of the coating looked faded. He agreed to come and spot treat the faded areas. I asked him to come when I was home so that I could point out places for him to go over. We agreed to a time but he showed up just as I was leaving for an appt. (which I told him I would be leaving at that time). When he came over later to check the work, I pointed out areas that were missed and were still faded. He again became defensive and abusive. The roof looks ok colorwise, but if you look around, there are definitely still areas that aren't well coated. I know that it wasn't just me that he was nasty to, since he did it to my husband as well and my husband is a really easy-going, gentle kind of guy. Overall, this was a horrible experrience with a defensive, nasty and abusive man who lies to get the business and then doesn't deliver evything he promises. We will probably have someone else recoat the roof, since it certainly doesn't appear that it will last five years. (Our last roofing job held up well for 7 years but I can't remember why we didn't use those guys again. I think we were trying to go cheaper, which as we now see, was not the best way to choose a contractor.

They were very punctual and professional and did an exceptional job in a very reasonable amount of time. I will definitely use them next time my roof needs cleaned and will recommend them to friends and neighbors.

NW Surface Cleaner has cleaned and treated our cedar roof every 4 - 5 years since 1994. We have found them easy to work with and they do what they say when they say they will perform the work. This summer we hired them to clean and stain our cedar deck. They washed, sanded, applied brightener and stain to the deck. The deck looks beautiful. The best thing we can say about NW Surface Cleaner is we have been a customer for over 15 years and we will keep going back.

Everything went per agreement. We had a one week delay between washing and the rest of the work due to rain. Once we got a break from the rain and the roof was dry. These guys went right to work. We are quite satisfied with the work done.

The work was done during the day. The gutters are clean, and there's barely a sign of where all that gutter-junk went; nice cleanup.

It went well. They cleaned up the gutters and their other messes. It was like they weren't even here.

THEY WERE ON TIME, DID AN EXCELLENT JOB, AND CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES.
