I might have been some what hasty on my first review. Just upset because of the break down in communication. After reviewing the final documents I would like to retract some of what I said. I do think we paid to much but there construction firm is one of integrity. The job was done mostly to our satisfaction. Just make sure you get all the cost up front. They are decent people and I never meant to imply otherwise.

Workers were onsite for approx 7 hours and the only items they got to were replacing the back door and toilet. They worked 7 hours on the door alone and I've since found it that they purchased and installed the wrong door (wrong size). It was left unfinished and they damaged the walls surrounding the door. I paid $1190 labor and $400 parts for the wrong door and poor quality installation. All of this will have to be repeated because the work was not done to code and the door locks now stick and will not open. No other item on the to-do list was attempted.

They were quick in every aspect even when something came up. They discovered our home has a 5 layers of roofing that needed to be replaced. They exhibited a high level of integrity. And they're pricing was reasonable. They were on the job most weekdays and some weekend.

I needed a new roof nearly two years ago and checked with the city to determine if there were grants to help cover it. There were, but as I had a 40-foot tree that abutted the house, I couldn't use the grant program. The tree had done damage to the siding and because I needed to use HUD for financing, I had to do lead testing. And I had lead.
After 18 months of trying to find providers to even consider giving me an estimate I came upon Steve and Clayton. They drove 90 minutes to come look at my home, ask what repairs I'd like, give suggestions and even found foundation damage (that turned out to be significant) that other contractors had missed.
The needed work snowballed into many needed repairs but they kept on top of the bid and the sub-contractors needed to do the work. They visited my home three additional times to meet with me and/or the city to determine if they could even work with HUD lead licensing. They did this not knowing if they would get the bid.
The paperwork and interaction with the city to meet the requirements is significant. This is why I had such a difficult time getting bids. Steve and Clayton kept on top of all the requirements for both themselves and for the subs.
Work was to being in July, the week I was heading out of the country. Strunk took daily pictures of the work and posted them with review, commentary and plans on an easily accessible website. They emailed me every day to let me know the status. When I returned home, I felt completely confident in the work they had completed up to that point and comfortable going forward.
What began as a new roof quickly became a nightmare. Once the tree that abutted the house was removed it was discovered that it had caused significantly more damage then expected. The previous owner did a lot of do-it-yourself work (poorly) and all of the windows had to be replaced. Shoddy plumbing repairs resulted in dry rot and termites. Bad electrical on an extension showed frayed wiring near water. The list goes on and on.
Steve and Clayton remained positive, helping me to do so. They worked with me and my budget (HUD only gives out so much) and had ideas on how to stretch a dollar.
Overall, I think they were grossly underpaid and I hope someday to be in a position where I can hire them again and pay them what they are worth.
Strunk may not give you the cheapest bid, but they'll give you the best. It will be thorough and honest. And the customer service is well-worth any additional premium.

We loved that the price was not a surprise, that they communicated well and even fixed up other crappy little things around the bathroom that had not been caulked correctly. I am hoping they'll come back and redo my kitchen in a few years.

The service was just excellent. He provided us with a firm which came to our home and helped me choose the tile to be used and how to finish it. He had to rip out a badly damaged bathroom floor and then replace the rotten wood. Upon finding that the struts beneath our old floor were not close enough together to support a tiled floor, he built extra support and rebuilt the subfloor so that the tile could be supported without cracking. As bullnose tiles were prohibitively priced, he worked with the tile provider and me to devise a way to finish the "baseboards" by slicing tiles and creating a tile baseboard for the perimeter of the bathroom. And the new floor looks just wonderful!

We saw an offer on Angie's List for a kitchen or bath design. What we really needed was more of a consultation, so we skipped the deal and called Steve direct to set up a meeting. We sent Steve our sketches ahead of time for his review. When we met, he already had some questions for us...and we had a million questions for him. It was a terrific meeting, and he gave us some fabulous pointers and things to consider that hadn't dawned on us. It seemed clear that he has a lot of good practical knowledge based on many years of experience. We're still a little ways out from the actual remodel project, but I'm so glad we have Steve as a resource.

Steve was very responsive to a request for an estimate and was very forthcoming during it when asked for his thoughts. He gave us a fair bid , and while it was not the low bid he made such an impression on my wife and I we choose his bid. We haven't regretted that choice at all. He did his best to meet a very short time frame and barely missed the target we set for him. My wife and I both agreed as time went on that what we were asking was unrealistic given the scope of the job. The work is amazing and he wasn't happy until we were. I could not possibly recommend him more - the extra cost was completely worth it. We will be calling him again for any future work that we need done without a doubt.

Steve had bid a large remodel job for us in 2011, but that project fell through due to a mixup at our local code enforcement office. Throughout both projects, Steve was always on time for meetings, always had his paperwork ready, and is pleasant to work with.
The work he did at the rental was topnotch, tight and clean. Did a great job insuring the touch-up paints were a perfect match.
The only tiny glitch was that they missed painting under one of the windows, but he gladly took a few bucks off the final invoice, and had left me the extra paint so it only took a few minutes to fix.
I would highly recommend Steve for remodel projects.

They were great. We are at a standstill at the moment, so we are not sure if we are going to use them or not. It is nothing that they did, they were really great, we are just out of money for the project at the moment.

I contacted him. He came and gave estimate for part of the work, but said he had to figure out an estimate for the other part. He came and installed a door then never came back to finish the other part of the job or give me an estimate. I called several times. His phone was then disconnected.

Work was completed on schedule and to our satisfaction. They have very good subcontracters (ie electricians and plumbers) and pay close attention to both detail and perfection. We will have them back when we can afford to have an addition built onto our existing home.

We live in a mobile home and the second bathroom - our guest bath - was ugly and very-trailerish. I had several contractors come out to give estimates for a remodel, for which we had set a cap on spending. Only two were interested in working on a mobile home; Thornton and Thornton was one of the two. I chose Thornton and Thornton because of Steve's manner, his willingness to offer suggestions and listen carefully to my vision of the new bathroom and, of course, the very positive comments in Angie's List that others had made. The entire process went smoothly and the results are terrific! From Steve and Vicki Thornton, to their right-hand man Clayton and each of the subs Steve brought in, the people we saw were courteous and skilled. Our new bathroom is lovely. Steve stayed within our restrictive budget except where I asked for extra work. At those times, he carefully explained the additional costs my requests would result in, and seamlesssly worked those into the project. When I pulled back on some possible work, Steve was gracious and helpful in deciding what tasks could be reduced.I recommend this company without reservation. In particular, the tile work and the computer renderings offered at each stage of the project make this person and his company one of the best professional associations I've ever experienced.

Steve Thornton is a pleasant man to work with. He has none of the arrogance of some contractors. He listens, considers, offers alternatives. He likes solving problems. He also realizes that cost is a factor for some people.
We enjoyed having Steve in our house (can't say that about everyone!) and also his associate, Clayton Strunk. We felt safe entrusting them with a key to the place. They worked hard, together and individually; they made sure we were satisfied with each phase of the jobs; they cleaned up thoroughly when done.
We intend to use Steve and Clayton for future jobs.

The siding we had was dry rotting, because of the way the builder had prepared it. Those two, Thornton & Thornton, have been doing siding for a long time, and they really know what they’re doing. They don’t just talk up a fancy line. We found them on Angie’s List. We liked how knowledgeable they are. One of the guys is older than the other, and he is really gifted. It left us feeling really comfortable.

Steve is punctual, professional, committed to detail and up front with his customers. Sub-contractors were highly skilled and professional. We were on a tight schedule because of out-of-state and foreign visitors and family events and we were worried that the remodelling would not be finished in time, but Steve assured us it would be and it was. The finished job was beautiful, including finishing touches.

In the past we have always called for 3 bids before beginning any major work ... we've done $100,000.00 in work since buying this house and spent the first $50,000.00 with 3 different contractors ... We have spent the next $50,000.00 with the Thornton's over 3 projects and already have the next one scheduled ... the point being that we are so happy with their work that we no longer bother with the 3 bid process. When we decided to go ahead and redo the kitchen we simply called Steve and Vicki, told them what we wanted and let them get to work. Our feeling is if you find someone who does great work, and has been fair about doing it, why would you ever call anyone else? They came over, sat down and went over ideas with us (I wanted to move a wall out a foot) and they gave their suggestions ... they walked us through every step of picking cabinets, flooring, paint, ... and as the dining room carpets were being ripped up (we decided to tile in there also) and discovered dry-rot, Steve instantly jumped in and repaired it ... very reasonably I might add ... so as to not throw the project off schedule. Not only was the job finished on schedule, Steve also did many other little 'extras' with the same pleasant attitude he's had since the first day we met him. I would highly recommend the Thornton's and, if you like, I have no problem with you calling me if you have further questions.

Overall it was a very positive experience. I have had a number of remodels in the past and they have been the most responsive and professional that I have experienced. We had a tight time frame before Christmas and they delivered exactly as promised. The attention to detail was excellent. They are friendly and very helpful in selection of materials.

They have done a lot of work for me. They are getting ready to do a complete kitchen remodeling that would include new flooring and new countertops. They are very, very good. We are very happy with their work. They are very honest and have a lot of good ideas too. They finish the work on time and always clean up after themselves. I'm not stuck here. I'm free to come and go as I please. I can leave them alone in the house because I trust them. I just like everything about them. I have no problems with them at all.
