I found The Blind guy, Rocky on Angie’s List. We could not have been more pleased. From the estimate to the installation, he was incredible. He was a great pleasure to work with. I just wish I had more windows that needed treatments.

Rocky was very helpful, nice and polite. He helped me pick out the shade color but wasn't pushy. I ended up picking out a slightly different color then I originally had in mind and I love it. I'd hire Rocky again in a heartbeat :>)

After getting a bid from a local chain store and finding out the it was going to cost over $400 per window for a mini blind I decided to look on Angies list for other window treatment options. I called Rocky to come out and give me a bid. We set up a time, he was on time, he took measurements to confirm the ones that I had already taken and then he gave me an estimate. He was straight up about the information on different blind manufacturers and why Hunter Douglas had such a high price on a particular blind that I wanted. He offered some other alternatives but we settled on my original choice. He ordered them right on the spot, they came in in about two weeks. He called me, we set up a time for installation, he installed them perfectly and they look great.
Description of Work: We needed new mini blinds for our master bathroom. We wanted the top down/bottom up mini blind for maximum light and maximum privacy. We shopped all the large stores to look at samples, colors, and different system operations. We were able to bring home books and choose colors and then go back and get an estimate. We were well educated on all the products when we asked for a bid.....that is when we decided to keep looking for other options rather than the really large chain stores.

We needed to replace window treatments in our kitchen/family room, living room, dining room and master bedroom. I contacted The Blind Guy, Rocky, and he came to our home with samples and was very good at explaining the different costs and the pros and cons of different shades. We then ordered our shades which he said would take two weeks to arrive, which they did. He contacted us to set a time to install, which was the very next day. He did a great job installing the vertical blinds as well as the Honeycomb shades. They look great!

It was outstanding. It was the best quality and service imaginable. They were right on time and took measurements very promptly. They came back with their stuff quickly. The installation was perfect. He was a very nice person personally. The pricing was very fair. They were totally professional. I would use them again without any questions. We are considering another area.

This was probably the easiest vendor installation I have ever done. I did not give the best grade on cost above, but that is not a reflection on The Blind Guy, the treatments I wanted are expensive, and his prices were consistent with what others had estimated, I just hate parting with money. Rocky was flexible regarding several problems I had relative to traveling and scheduling and is definitely someone I would highly recommend. The actual installation was very quick and neat.
Description of Work: "Rocky," The Blind Guy, came out and did an estimate on 11/19/2010 at which time I selected among model/color choices for three bedrooms and three large living room windows. All were installed on 12/07/2010 as scheduled. Rocky was professional in all ways, careful to verify the window frame dimensions in my 40-year old home, and helpful in explaining the difference between several options, ultimately saving me some money. (He was definitely correct in guiding me on the choices; and, I did act to ensure a manufacturer's rebate and federal tax credit for energy efficiency.)

They were initally called to repair one blind and then clean a total of four Hunter Douglas Silouette Blinds. However, after looking at the particular model we have, they advised against cleaning them. This particular model has layers glued together, and the cleaning process might have compromised the layers. I was very impressed that they didn't want to take a risk at damaging the blinds. Repair they did was excellent.

The Blind Guy does it again! Rocky's prices beat two other competitive bids. He provided us 24 shades and blinds on windows and glass doors throughout the house. This was one of the final stages of a long-term remodeling project; earlier, Rocky installed retracting screen doors, which have worked beautifully. The new shades and blinds add a final professional touch throughout the house. I would definitely recommend Rocky to others.
Description of Work: Rocky fitted our entire southwest hills bungalow with cellular shades and blinds. He measured and offered choices in styles and colors. He installed our order and provided excellent recommendations for the care and maintenance of the new window treatments.

We have a bunch of these Hunter-Douglas honeycomb shades with broken plastic parts, and it's impossible to get replacements. He brought over the right parts, fixed everything and made sure it worked correctly, fixed all the darn shades that didn't hang right. Paid a minimum fee for the visit. So worth it!!!

Rocky's price was good and he is a nice guy. He did a pretty good job installing the shades and went beyond the call of duty in some areas. However, I find the overall service level and repeated mistakes unacceptable and today I've very upset. Hunter Douglas quality is terrible -- quality control is non-existent. Hunter Douglas customer service is deplorable. Two months after my install I still have missing blinds. Problem #1: We ordered 4 powered skylights. 3 of them were defective upon install - 2 with the wrong color, one was not opening/closing. The color was correctly specified - this was a Hunter Douglas manufacturing error (#1). The broken skylight should have been detected by Rocky - he should have assembled it before he arrived and should have identified the problem earlier; however, this is again another defective product from a manufacturer who seems to lack any form of quality control (#2). This required a 2nd installation date and unnecessary delay. Today, the piece of s*** skylights sound terrible when they run, as they are loud and slow. The RF/IR reception is terrible. There is light leaking on the corners (there are cheap plastic stick-on pieces that attempt to block the light in the corners -- what a kludge in terms of the design/engineering of the product). I'm not impressed with these products at all. Problem #2: We ordered about 50 roller shades. Wild Harvest / Fig color. Many of them came with creases. We decided to send one back (we may send many more -- perhaps all of them - back at this point). Hunter Douglas defect #3-#10ish. The item was returned to us without a reverse roll after weeks of wait (Hunter Douglas defect #11). 3rd time, several weeks later, we received the item back with the wrong color hardware (Hunter defect #12). Very careless by both Hunter Douglas and The Blind Guy. Now we're onto the 4th attempt to replace a simple blind that was shipped defective... -- How many months do you think it will take for Hunter Douglas to get us the shades we ordered? This is to say nothing about the other shades that continue to be creased. At one point, we got a story that Hunter Douglas was out of stock on this material/fabric 'wild harvest fig'. Brilliant. Our original install was May 1st, today is June 26th. I fault both Rocky and Hunter Douglas for poor quality control and attention to detail. At this point, I have no idea how long it will be before my situation is fixed. How many months should it take to get a replacement shade that was shipped defective? So far, it's been almost 2 months. How many times should it take a company like The Blind Guy/Hunter Douglas to replace a shade with the correct configuration? At least 4 in my case...and counting...How many creases should one expect in newly shipped product from Hunter Douglas? How long until all the cheap parts start breaking (plastic clutch, plastic roller, plastic chain, etc.)... I've talked to the Hunter Douglas corporate office and that was very unhelpful as well.

See above. Rocky knows his business and has been willing to make several trips to our home so that we didn't have one big expense. I would recommend him to others with the same need. He has a good selection of blinds and does good work.
Description of Work: We have been using The Blind Guy for several years, gradually replacing each of the blinds thoughout our home as they had deteriorated. The company that initially installed them went out of business or we would have had them replaced at the expense of the company. Rocky Hulm has been to our home at least six times to replace one or more blinds. He has always been professional and responsive. He sells blinds that have a long record of good performance, so we shouldn't need to go through this expensive process again.

Couldn't have been easier. We wish we had done it years ago. I do not know if his prices were competitive because I did not get any other estimates but I think they probably are. They cost less than I thought they would and are beautiful.
Description of Work: We ordered honeycomb blinds for two very large windows, one in the living room and one in the family room. We called The Blind Guy based on Angie's List. Rocky came out the next day, showed us samples, gave us an estimate and took measurements. Two weeks later the blinds were installed. He also explained how we could get a tax credit for these particular honeycomb blinds.

Working with Rocky was a great experience! He initially matched missing parts for Mirage screens on the house before the remodel. Rocky made no effort to hard-sell replacing the doors; when I decided I did want to do that, he did a great job of matching color and working with the slightly quirky doorsills to get all three screens to fit beautifully. Rocky is prompt, professional, and his prices are excellent.

We met Rocky at the Home Show at the Convention Center. We had looked at Hunter Douglas faux wood blinds before, and he seemed very knowledgeable and had samples of other types of blinds we had not considered before, including the Silouette line that gives a very elegant look He told us his prices were cheaper than other full service blind companies in town because the Blind Guy is a chain with many locations. We scheduled him to come out and give us a bid, and he brought samples of all the different types of blinds that we were considering. He let us look at how they looked from both inside and outside with our new windows that have a "Smart Sun" feature that blocks 95% of the UV and makes them more energy efficient, but that also plays visual tricks--the semi-opaque Silouette sample clearly showed the color from the outside, but the opaque sample and the faux wood blinds just look black from the outside. Rocky's price was indeed less than we had gotten from another local dealer, so we decided to order the blinds from him. We ordered the 2 1/2" faux wood Everwood blinds with a Praline color to match our existing wood work. Rocky said it would take 2 weeks for the custom ordered blinds to arrive, but after just one week he called up and said that the blinds were ready. We set up an appointment for him to come the next day, and he arrived at the promised time and very quickly had the new blinds installed and adjusted. He explained that he had ordered them with a fancier cornice piece because our windows are not recessed far enough for the cornice to fit within the window opening. Rocky also told us that if there are any problems or adjustments needed down the line, he will come out and take care of them for us. After I ordered the blinds I did find them much cheaper on the Internet ($220 each vs. $330 each with free shipping), but of course that would not include installation and future service. Overall, we are happy with the service and product proivided by Rocky from The Blind Guy in Portland, Oregon.
Description of Work: Ordered and installed Hunter Douglas Everwood faux wood blinds in two front bedrooms. We went with the 2 1/2" ones that give a better view when opened and are beveled to give the look of shutters. The color we chose blends very well with the existing wood trim and the new Andersen Renewal windows with stained wood interior that we just recently had installed.

Rocky promptly returned our phone call and came for an estimate. The blinds had to be ordered and arrived when he said they would and he came to install them. We are very happy with the blinds. The only thing we would have done differently was to forgo the more expensive one we had put in the entry way, as we could have saved $150.00 by installing the same ones put in the family room (we are able to retract them easily with the extension pole, rather than the ladder Rocky said we would need to use.)

Rocky was short with me during our first phone conversation and said he'd fit me in whenever he was in the area (no set appointment, which was annoying). He came over about a week later, took the shade for repairs, said it would be ready in 1 week, and returned it in 3 (after I called twice). It broke again within a month (exact same problem). He agreed to come out and fix it again, initially saying he could charge me again, then backing down and saying he would look at it to see if he could fix it for free. He was late, and the first thing he said was something to the effect of, ''I'll look at it today, but if it breaks again you're on your own.'' He clearly did not value my business. The curtain works about 80% as well as it did before it broke. He was rude, his work was shabby, and I will not call him again.
Description of Work: We have a large honeycomb shade over our sliding glass door. It was installed approx. 10 years ago, and one of the sides needed to be restrung.
