I was charged for a repair that was arguably unnecessary and didn't fix the problem. further, I was told I needed $1500 in repairs that were definitely not needed. fortunately I sought out a different (pump) service.
Description of Work: Renter called and reported that pressure tank was not working properly. Lovett (Kyle) went out and changed a valve and thought that fixed it. Told me the tank was old and would need replacing. Renter reported that tank didn't hold the pressure and Kyle said it needed replacing NOW or the pump would wear out because of being overworked (about $1500 to replace it since it needed elevating to be up to code). Called a pump place that had worked on it before and they took care of the problem for less than $150. No further problems. I think pumps and wells are a specialty and it's better to stick with a pump place for that kind of problem.

We'd experienced more than our share of clogged drains in our basement resulting in disgusting floodings so finally called a professional. The latest clog/flood occurred on the 4th of July. I called Lovett on the morning of July 5th and they were able to come out by 11 the same day. Thank goodness as we were afraid to using our water or toilets until the problem was fixed. Jeff explained the problem to me and went to work. He was done in about an hour which was great because they charge by the hour I think. I was surprised that before he left he put back our washer and dryer which we had moved the night before and hooked back up our dryer. He also cleaned out a disgusting black goo covered sink and checked and showed me our mainline pipe entry point, replacing the cap. I was very pleased to have the problem resolved quickly and have my fingers crossed that we will be clog/flood free for some time. Charge would have been about $225 but I bought 2 gallons of the recommended "bio line" enzyme to use regularly to keep the pipes cleaned out. Lovett was recommended by the second plumber I called who directed me to their services. The first plumber I called didn't get back to me until today (7/6).The only thing I didn't realize was that Jeff wasn't a plumber. I thought I had called a plumber who could also look at a couple of other issues around the house. That wasn't their fault, but something folks should be aware of.
Description of Work: Cabled drain from access in basement to main clearing drain of debris and grease buildup. Tested with plenty of water. Pricing - Tech: 185, truck fee 30, misc. 10 and I opted to buy the 'enzyme' 2 for 90. ( I entered n/a in the pricing rating because I don't know what normalpricing is. The price eems fair and I was pleased by the very quick response).

Lovett was prompt in arriving, prompt in providing an estimate, and thorough in providing multiple options as to the work that needed to be done, including our terra-cotta sewer pipe replacement which we did not do at this time. The work itself was done faster than expected and has so far performed superbly. Cleanup was fast, thorough and unobtrusive. On the second day I requested a change for another gutter connection - it turned out there was a concrete slab just a few inches below the soil however. Lovett was prompt in communicating this issue and stopping work until they could find out what I wanted done with it. After deliberation I decided to leave it alone, and they filled in the dug up soil. This bit of extra work was done without a change on the final bill. All excavation work was covered up and refilled very well. I can't even tell anymore that someone was digging along the entire length of the house on one side.
Description of Work: - Gutter drainage on one side to the house, installed and connected to sewerline through foundation. - Approximately 12" by 12" catchbasin and drainage connected to sewerline on other side of the house.

THESE GUYS ARE HONEST AND SAVED MY BACON BIG TIME !!! I had a company out that tried to break through a glog to the sewer line join but could not fearing that excavation was needed they told me to contact LOVETT as they had better relationship with the city of Vancouver - They sent out DERICK and when he heard the whole story from me he wanted to go with me to watch as the city scoped the sewer join to determin the cause of the clog - he was with me for two hours and when we saw on the camera what was wrong he could see what I could not, that it was the cities fault and not mine - The city agreed and I can not help but wonder if they would have if he had not been there. WOW even more amazing was the fact that he did not charge for the time he spent as he said they only charge for bod work done - WOW is it possible a truly honest company!!!!!! You know you are in good hands with DERICK / LOVETT around -

Great service, good attitudes, and a price per lineal foot charge that was easy to understand and calculate an estimate. This was a GREAT feature because it meant I could measure my job and do my own estimate rather than have to meet someone out at the site prior to the job.
Description of Work: Lovett ran a new water supply line from the city meter to the house. Then they ran another line from the back of my house to the side of a large concrete slab where we plan to build a garage. They did a great job, everyone was really friendly AND energetic. You could tell they all were hard workers and had great attitudes. Also, when they pulled the water pipe through the tunnel (directional boring) they also pulled some direct bury electric wire and a rope, which I could later use to pull my sprinkler waterline and sprinkler wire through with.

They were great and we loved them. His name is Adam Ponce. We thought that we had to re-pipe the house because the water pressure was very low and we thought that it might cost $7000-$10000 for the work. We were pleasantly surprised when they came in and we found out that it was just a cleaning out of the drain that went from underground in front of our kitchen and sidewalk. He cleaned it out and our water pressure came back perfectly that night. They were fair and honest and it was good service. They fixed the problem at a reasonable price.

Negatives and middot; I’ve always felt like my property was an ‘afterthought’ compared to my neighbor's much more extensive work. Overall proactive communication was quite poor: I was not informed when Lovett was going to initially come out to bid on contract (I had to learn from my neighbors so I could scramble out). I had to get my bid for my property from my neighbors rather than directly from Lovett (I don’t believe it is appropriate sharing this information with neighbors and asking them to send this contract to me). I was not informed when work was to begin until 2 business days prior to actual start date (again an oversight by Lovett). I had to make last minute arrangements at work to take some time off to accommodate access to my garage, etc. in the initial days of the project. Water supply line on my property was broken during the trenching. I understand these accidents happen and don’t blame Lovett for this. HOWEVER, this was never proactively communicated to me when this occurred. When I arrived home that evening, I saw extremely dirty water coming out of all faucets, toilets, showers, etc. I wasn’t sure whether this was somehow a sewage backup. Only after I questioned the work crew the next morning did I find out about the broken water supply line which was source of the dirty Final Bill was incorrect. In the contractual agreement, Lovett stated they would need to do a 10 foot trench along sidewalk, even though all my prior bids (including Lovett's back in 2007) indicated just a 5 foot section of terracotta needed to be replaced. I put in an addendum indicating if work is performed less than 10' trench indicated, $300 was due back to owner. Of course, this was overlooked, but after following up with Tom Wolf, this did get corrected. Positives and middot; Overall, I believe the Quality of the repair was good. . Concrete work seemed good overall. Work crew, overall, seemed professional. Overall, crew gets good scores for keeping an organized, safe, and clean work-site. I didn’t have to worry about falling into holes and job site was kept as clean as realistic for the work performed. Based on this, I would give Lovett an overall Grade of C. A letter ‘B’ for overall quality of work offset by a ‘D’ in terms of overall poor interaction/communications with me on this job from the beginning of the project (not one isolated incidence, but multiple incidences as communicated above).
Description of Work: City of Portland now requires all "Party-Line Sewers" to be disconnected and new laterals connecting to main city sewer line. My neighbor and myself went in together to use Lovett Inc. to disconnect their connection to my sewer line. The work that was performed on my property was replacing two ~ 6 foot sections of terracotta sewer lines with approved ABS pipe.

Greetings Member, Thank you for giving us a report here on Angie's List. My name is Dustin Wolfe and I am the General Manager here at Lovett. After reading the report I felt it appropriate to share some information with you regarding your project. First though, I'd like to take some responsibility for the poor communication that you recieved and let you know that the information you shared means a lot to us. We will certainly be addressing your project internally. There is no excuse for the way your project developed. Wow. You have plenty of good reasons to have given us the rating that you did, all things considered, we really appreciate your ability to still see good in certain parts of the process. It appears as though we made a fair amount of assumptions, which as we should all know, is a killer when it comes to good communication. We are actively discussing what went wrong and working as a team to come up with a solution to our breakdown. Again, thank you for the constructive feedback Member. If there is anything that you would like to see addressed please do not hesitate to contact me. Wishing you all the best. Sincerely, Team LOVETT

Lovett was actually recommended by an Angie's list company who didn't do this kind of work. Lovett gave us a quote, and after we had flushed the drainage system, came out and fixed our problem. Making the problem more difficult, part of the pipe disappeared under the concrete slap that served as our porch. The repairman said he might have to deconstruct part of the porch slap to fix it. But the repair person managed to work around the problem by, among other things, using a custom-made tool to cut the pipe in a way that allowed him to attach the repair. He did not have to deconstruct part of the slab. He was tidy and professional, kept us in the informed, making us feel we were in the hands of a professional. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.
Description of Work: Water tended to pool under our house, but only in one corner. Suspiciously, this corner had a faucet , a down spout, and a drip line. I investigated the down spout first, and, Eureka, I uncovered a broken pipe, part of the system that takes care of water runoff from the roof. I needed professional help.

I was very happy with everything and with everyone involved. Derick, the estimator, gave me a lot of confidence in Lovett - he gave me an estimate on the spot that was very detailed (more than other bids I obtained) and complete (other bidders left out added cost items like permits or refilling with crushed rock instead of dirt). Without my prompting, he walked me through various homeowner concerns like injury to tree roots or the look of the replaced sidewalk and talked about how Lovett would address them. My experiences with everyone that followed - from the scheduler to the guys that did the work - was similarly good. They were knowledgeable, personable and provided good service. It took about 1.5 weeks from accepting the bid to the start of work. Work began on-time; various trucks and people showed up, did their bit, and then took off - there were a couple of hiccups, but everything appeared to be well-orchestrated. Overall, the work took a little longer than expected due to some issues they ran into, but finished within the 1-3 day window they had predicted. Of 4 bidders, Lovett was the lowest bid for my sewer-line replacement project, and yet I felt like they had the best approach. They were the only company who proposed bursting pipe (which leaves you with a continuous run of unseamed new pipe - I think it's far preferable) and one of 3 who bid a trenchless approach. I was very surprised at the range of approaches and prices (!) in the 4 bids I obtained.
Description of Work: Replacement of approx. 12 feet of sewer line, from the cast iron to the curb. This included removing a portion of the sidewalk and excavating to access the connection to the cast iron pipe, bursting new HDPE from the cast iron to the city's pipe and making the proper connections, backfilling the hole with crushed rock & compacting, repairing the concrete sidewalk. The city already had a hole open for access on the street side that Lovett was able to make use of.

My sewer line was ancient and broken. It was causing sink holes to form in my backyard. the problem was that we are on a very steep slope, and the sewer line we were connecting into was not well mapped since it runs through the woods and not the street. Lovett was the only company contacted that were willing to quote for the whole job, since there were many unknowns, and suggsted re-drilling and putting in a whole new line rather than trying to retrofit the old line. They came exactly on the day agreed, brought a huge crew in, and got the job done on schedule. Since it was pouring at the time my lawn became very chewed up due to the traffic from their workers. They were willing to re-seed it and fix it themselves, but I told them I wanted my landscapers to do it instead. Once I had a quote from my landscapers for the work, Lovett subtracted that from my bill. A very professional outfit that made a difficult fix with no issues.

We got multiple bids for the project and Lovett was the lowest, but also had a stellar reputation. They dug one hole by the house and another at the access point to the city sewer line and replaced the existing pipe. There was a delay in filling back in the holes, but that was because the city inspector had to push back the view date. As soon as the inspection was completed, the backfill was done the same day. Total work time was less than a day for the work and less than a day for the inspection. Overall a very professional experience.
Description of Work: Existing sewer line was broken at point. Lovett replaced the existing line with minimal digging by running new pipe along the old one and "bursting" it. They also took care of permitting and approval.

They use awesome technology that means no trenches, just a single "point of entry" from which to bore. Everything went well--minimal disruption at the time, and it's been working fine ever since. The only problem was that the city dragged their feet on the final inspection. This is not primarily Lovett's fault, but they should have been more assertive in wrapping up the paperwork. The estimate clearly stated that they would handle the permits and inspections, so I insisted that they do so before my final payment to them--and they did finally complete that. [I do not know the actual date of the work. I tried to enter "2009" but the web site insists on having a month and day, which is silly.]
Description of Work: Replaced sewer line with insufficient "drop" with a new line. The old line connected to a city sewer in front of our house, the new one connects to a city sewer behind our house.

They showed up on time, and got the quote to us quickly. They showed up about 30 minutes early the first day, and completed the work in two days (they had to wait for an inspection after they were done to re-bury it). They did a great job patching the concrete floor in the basement, and backfilled the hole in the yard and put the sod back in place on top. They did very little damage to the landscaping, and matched the grade of the yard when filling their hole in.
Description of Work: They replaced about a 10' section of our sewer line, underneath a large concrete front porch, without disturbing the structure. The previous home owners had someone replace the pipe, but they didn't do it correctly, the new section wasn't actually hooked into the old, and was causing sewer backups. Lovett dug down about 7 feet in the front lawn, and dug in the basement, and did directional boring to connect the "new" pipe in the yard with the connection in the basement. They were able to save our porch, which was great.

They did good work as far as quality, and they were nice enough and worked hard and well. Their big mistake was with the hole in our back yard. They covered the hole with a board every ngiht, and we asked them to let us know if they ever left the hole uncovered for whatever reason, as we could not see the back yard from our back door due to the angle. One night they left the hole uncovered for some reason (the board was covering a mound of dirt...keeping it dry in case of rain??), and they put caution tape on our deck to the lawn. Unfortunately, we can't see that part of our deck from our door, and our dog couldn't read. The dog fell in the hole (about 7 feet deep or so). My wife had to climb in with a ladder and harness him, and I had to pull him free with a leash while m wife pushed him up the sides. The company was very apologetic when we called about it, but once they saw the dog the next day, who appeared to be unharmed, they never mentioned it again or made any offer to make amends for that. We weren't happy with them for this, but our dog seemed okay, and the work seemed fine, so we didn't pursue it. Overall, they seem to do good work, but their common sense wasn't stellar.
Description of Work: The date is an approximate guess. The work took awhile, since four houses were involved. We had to get off a four house sewer party line due to leaks in the line. They had to put in a sump pump and run our new line through the original line space to a side street. This involved digging a hole in our yard and pulling pipe through the ground from the hole at the street connection. They did not have to dig a trench along the whole line, because of their ability to pull the pipe through. Apparently, they may be the only company around with this capability (or there aren't many anyway). This was very useful. They also connected out line with one other neighbor, so we stayed on a 2-party line (that took lots of wrangling with the city, but it was necessary).

They were prompt and professional every step of the way. They have obviously done these kinds of jobs for the city on a regular basis, and everything went smoothly. The only quibble I had was the difficulty of communication once the job actually started. It was hard to know who to ask what stage the job was in. However, they basically left no trace of all the digging and we are satisfied.
Description of Work: When a neighbor's house was sold, the city discovered that we were the "guest" on their "host" sewer line. The city then required us to separate and run a new line. We got the 3 estimates required for the loan from the city, and Lovett was by far the lowest. They were also the most responsive and professional. They dug up the street to locate the sewer line, ran new pipe underneath a narrow easement sidewalk, (the only access on a steep hillside), connected the house sewer line, and closed everything up again.

They sent out a man who tried his best to help me. He came out two different times. He had a lot of suggestions and he definitely knew what he was talking about. Lovett was the second lowest bid. We went with the low bid but on the day of the work Lovett showed up. Turns out that our people were too busy to do the work and subcontracted to Lovette. No problem: they did a very good job, on budget and with less disruption than we expected. There was water leak but the plumber came out the next day to fix it. They forgot to reconnect our downspouts, but this is a minor issue. Overally, very happy with their work.

The sewer was plugged up and stopped draining. Happened periodically over several years and panic accompanied each event. Called several plumbers and excavating people and Lovett was the only one that was responsive in a timely manner. They gave me an estimate that was better than the plumber. After I gave them the go ahead it was scheduled and everything proceeded just as the sales rep said it would, except there were too many lines and pipes in the area to use the machine. The man who set up the job ran the camera down and saw some roots. Two guys started digging about 10 AM, found the pipe, did the repair and finished up just as it was getting dark. The problem was partially under the driveway and 5 feet down, but they were able to avoid disturbing the driveway surface by going under it enough to do the work. All in all I guess I was pretty lucky.
Description of Work: Repair of an obstruction in the sewer line from the house to the street. It was determined to be 5 feet down and just under the edge of the driveway.

He came out the first day I called and gave me an estimate. It was a much better solution to the problem and much much better price. Came out next day and did a great job. This was on May 1st. They gave a senior discount.
Description of Work: They replaced the faucets and shower head in the bathtub.

Initial on-site estimate was thorough and timely. Work was scheduled promptly after I called. All work except post-inspection cover up was completed in one day. Post-inspection cover up was prompt. Work site was left clean. Invoiced amount was in line with estimate. I was not at home while most of the work was being done. Only irritation was that the back door was left open.
Description of Work: Replaced service line from the street using underground boring machine, added inside shutoff valve. Replaced distribution pipes from service line to water heater, kitchen, and bathroom. Replaced water heater. Added t/p overflow from water heater. Replaced front exterior hose bib. Installed new shower/tub valve and trim.
