One guy came out to do the bid, and we went back to the place of business to put down the down payment. They did an excellent job. There was just one area where the workers should have used one piece of wood, and they used two, so there was a seam. However, this problem was taken care of right away. I am happy with the work they did.
Description of Work: They installed some pre-primed wooden siding on a portion of the south side of my house. It was about 5-6 feet high. They also did some caulking on some areas.

The first experience was good. I think this is before they sold their company. The second experience was one of the most awful experiences I have had with a contractor and I have worked with several. It happened a couple of year a go and I am so frustrated I am taking time to comment on Angie's List (I just learned about Angie's List). The person sent out took off one of the springs and was very rude and angry that he had to fix the door. He kept saying I needed to buy a new one and he could install it right away. The new ones he showed me were plastic looking and I didn't want it. He then proceeded to try and fix to the door and took the garage door down half way so it was now hanging from one side and left the garage door open with all of his tools everywhere. He said, he didn't have time to fix it today and he would have to leave it and come back later. I said OK. I didn't realize he meant he was going to leave my garage door like that, not only it is a security risk, I have a dog kennel attached to the garage for the dogs to stay when I am not home. I had to call the company and ask them to send him back to leave my garage door closed. The worker came back and was angry at me for calling. The next day,he kept whining about not being able to fix it. I finally lost my patience and said look, "just put it back the way it was, it worked before you got here, just put it back to what I had" After I got a little pushy with him he fixed it. My garage door ended up damaged from hanging on it side for so long and a couple of the panels are cracked. Every time I pull up into the driveway I think about it. I was so frustrated by the experience I didn't even deal with that at the time. The Representative on the phone did honor the warranty and did tell the person to go back and fix the door the first time. But my experience with the worker overshadowed the prompt responses the representative gave. When the representative left he said don't expect this work to be under warranty. I will not come out and fix this again. He damaged my property and was very pushy about trying to sell me a new door. I may have gone for a new door had he offered more alternatives and let me make the decision instead of trying to push me into something. I like the products Edelen has to offer and when I was in previously looking for windows the sales consultants have been very helpful. They have a lot of products I would like to use in my home, like the marvin integrity series, but I have a hard time trusting them. I keep wondering how they would treat me once I am a customer instead of a potential buyer. Will they fully stand behind their product. What type of quality work do they do? Was my experience just a fluke? Does the person I dealt with still work there? Do they care about customer satisfaction? I told the representative about the experience and he did apologize but my experience was awful and the garage door was damaged by their worker. Please post your experiences. Tha
Description of Work: Our garage door was opener was previously installed by Eleden. The garage door is wood so is very heavy. The system installed uses heavy springs that were failing. They came out to replace the springs and then a year later a warranty call was needed to fix them. The springs were too tight and the garage door was not closing properly but would eventually close if you tried it enough times.

They came out for a measure and estimate of cost, including labor. After I confirmed they came out again to make an exact measure. They were able to schedule quickly as it was a down time. They installed the doors and accompanying moulding. Everything they did from start to finish went well.

I called Edelen on Friday, and they scheduled a repair for the very next day (Saturday). Brian did the work quickly and quietly, and he was wonderfully polite and professional. He was cautious to not track anything into the house, as it was raining outside and he couldn't enter through the garage. He also lubricated and cleaned the other joints and rollers. All around, a very pleasant experience. I would recommend them for sure.
Description of Work: Diagnosed problem with broken garage door over the phone (a spring had broken). I am not a technical guy, so had no clue what had gone wrong with the door, just that it wouldn't go up. After talking about the option of replace one or both, I decided to go with replacing both. He was helpful in advising.

It was a nightmare. We ordered the doors, and the order was lost. We kept calling and being told it was coming, and only after a month we found out the order was never submitted. Later another sales representative took the job and facilitated the work. The installation was good and the doors are of good quality.

Kyle came out to do the initial estimate and inspection. He was on time, courteous, and explained the project. He took measurements, and after selecting the door I had the estimate within a couple of days. I sent back the signed contract and was told that another final inspector would come out and then schedule the job. This process took a bit longer than expected. I had to call them a couple of times to get the person to come out, but when I spoke to him he came out within a day or two. When he came out, we asked that the job be completed within 1-2 weeks and he said he would try to fit it in. I got a call the following week to say that they have an opening that day (about an hour later); I would have appreciated a bit more notice, but fortunately I was able to make it work. Bruce did a good job installing the door and cleaned up the work area. Overall, I am very satisfied. I would use them again.

Awesome. We had a bid, we had them come bring us samples of the windows we were considering, they came out to do a 2nd measurement, we signed off on the order, and they were installed about 6 weeks later. They scheduled 5 days to install; hoping for 4--they did it in 3. This included 4 large windows that needed cutting out--we made them 12 inches larger. All windows were framed on the outside and the newly sized windows all got new mouldings and sills. The windows that stayed the same size used the same mouldings; none were damaged, and everything looks wonderful. They took care of our things, covered furniture and cleaned each day before they left. The crew was extremely friendly and we are quite pleased with our new windows! There are a couple of screens that are bent but they are coming back to replace those.

Professional handling of the job, from the initial phone contact/estimate, to completion. The crew on the job took the time to make sure every detail was right. I was in the house with the kids the whole week of the job, and the crew was very courteous and pleasant. No complaints. Edelen was recommended to me by a friend, and I will certainly recommend them to anyone who needs their windows replaced. We had gotten two other estimates, one of which was cheaper, but there was no doubt in our minds that Edelen was the better company. I'm giving them a A for price. It wasn't a screaming deal, but we got the quality of workmanship that we paid for. Well worth the tiny bit extra! Our windows look absolutely perfect. Couldn't be better. They did a great clean up job afterward. Windows were cleaned, no dust anywhere. We had some screens that weren't quite right, but Edelen took care of it, no problems at all.

The job required two men to install. The job took the better part of one day. They were professional and knowledgeable and seemed to know what they were doing. They made sure the door was level and operated smoothly. The opening for the new unit was going to need some adjusting to fit. They would have to trim the header or we could take out the old slate floor. We had been planning to replace the floor so as the door was being installed, we quickly tore up the slate floor. The Edelen guys were glad to help and didn't seem inconvenienced. The door is stunning!! It took us 2 weeks to get the finish work done. We did it ourselves. 1) pre stain conditioner, 2) gel stain 3) 3 coats of top coat. We used General Finishes products from the Wood specialty store. I highly recommend their products. Our entry is truly a piece of furniture. It is gorgeous.
Description of Work: Remove existing door and transom. Set new Simpson door and frame into opening. Entry is over 10 feet high and 6 feet wide. New unit is all knotty alder. Glass above door is in 3 sections. Glass is called "seedy baroque". New door is 8 feet tall with 6 beveled glass squares at the top. There is a dentil shelf. The side lights are also 8 ft. tall and have 2 beveled glass squares at the top. The whole unit had to be custom built at Reeb Millwork in Washington and shipped to Edelen for installation. We bought the handset and lock prior to the install so that Edelen could install it. It is a Baldwin handset.

Second time we've worked with Edelen for windows. Estimator was prompt and delivered bid faster than committed. We revised bid, and turnaround was great. Measurer called within an hour of bid acceptance, and arrived for measurement on time. Windows arrived earlier than committed, firm confirmed install time the day before. This was a complex job involving three people for nearly a full day - they were professional, courteous, really worked the details, and cleaned up every speck of their impact. We highly recommend Edelen after getting bids from others and doing four jobs total with them.

I am fairly pleased. The project as a whole took a really long time. Part of this was due to the wait for permits, which everyone knows takes forever. But also, they tended to schedule me in-between the off-days for their other jobs, even though I think my job was a fairly good size one and deserved a fair amount of attention on it's own. The project ended up taking about 8 months. Albeit, it was a large deck and there were permits, but 8 months is a long time to build a deck. This said, they were very nice and cooperative. They did a pretty good job on the deck. I'm happy to have a nice new deck that isn't falling off the house and I know it was very difficult for them to get that old one off of there. They were kind enough to build a kitty ladder so the cats can get up onto the roof. Overall, they did a really good job in trying to please.
Description of Work: None of the above categories is appropriate, as this company builds decks too and this is what they did for us. They removed the old second-story deck, which was rotting and pulling off of the side of the house. They replaced it with a cedar deck.

We had bids from a total of 3 contractors. Each gave us slightly different information, meaning we learned more each time one came out. For example, one contractor advised us (for building code purposes) to have tempered glass on certain windows. Another one was not as certain that it was needed. We ended up with Edelen as they appeared to do everything the other two companies would do but, at a significantly reduced price. Considering we do not know how to install windows(or can see from an interior perspective how they performed the work) we can only assume that they did it properly. Outwardly, the windows look fine. However, when cleaning the windows, it is obvious that there are spots inside the two panes that we are unable to clean which is very frustrating. One of the contractors that we did not go with gave us a very detailed list of exactly how they would install the windows. We used this to ask Edelen how they would install as they did not mention the details.
Description of Work: We had new windows installed on the front side of house - 10 windows total. This was a retrofit with 4 of the windows very small and hard to access (bathrooms on 2nd floor).

They were willing to do the job, and not every contractor is willing to work on a 100 year old house. Also, I virtually never go with the lowest bidder, but I did in this case, because of their willingness to use the top of the line vinyl siding, and their known expertise in the community. They do use subs (contrary to what Angie's List says), at least in so far as their siding goes. The sub contractors are highly trained and efficient. They were prepared to deal with rot and a wide range of other problems, but our house had none. Some of the exterior boards angle in to each other, which would create a possible water leak situation, since vinyl siding cannot bend around corners. The project manager suggested the cedar molding around the corners, rather than risking leaks. That's why the job was slightly higher than estimate. When done, we were given the same warranty as new house siding. They put extra flashing where the roof and siding met, for extra protection, for no added cost.
Description of Work: Removed two layers of siding, which were 60 years old and 100 years old. Replaced with CraneBoard solid core Vinyl siding, with flashing, vapor barrier, and house wrap. Installed new cedar sideboard moldings, as well as extra cedar trim moldings on inside of porch beam. Additional roof flashing added.

Jay Martin was the contact person. The job was superb from start to finish. The crew showed up on the scheduled day at the scheduled time and worked hard. Their work is beautiful. They were totally done in three days -- a surgical strike! Every time I called either the company or the contact person or Jay, I had a return call either the same day or the next day. I wish I could afford to have them fix the entire house.
Description of Work: Our daylight basement was built with five (five!) sliding glass doors. It looked like an airplane hanger, was poorly insulated, and the house had settled so the wind would blow around the edges. We had all five removed. We used Marvin brand and placed two sliding glass doors and three TiltNTurn windows. Where the three windows were placed, a ''pony wall'' needed to be built (and insulated), because the windows were not the same size as the doors that were discarded. The house is a log house, so fitting is especially tricky.

We were quickly steered towards a good set of products, with help figuring out which materials were appropriate and which were unnecessary upgrades. They strike me as a very trustworthy company, particularly their sales staff. The particular estimator/project manager we had wasnt quite as knowledgeable as the sales lead (who was better at making sure things were getting done.) They had trouble giving us a reliable schedule; it slipped twice, probably because it was the height of their busy summer season. Cutting out the windows generated a HUGE amount of dust (concrete siding) inside the house, which was the big surprise. But in the end, these "complaints" are minor because the windows look fabulous and perform well. The rooms in the south side of the house are at least 5 degrees (maybe even 10) cooler in the summer than before, and without any tinting or other upgrades. Also, Edelen came quick to fix a nagging problem with 1 garage door, and put in the time necessary to fix it.
Description of Work: Replaced 3 garage door openers and 3/4 of the windows and sliding doors on a 2-story 3100 ft. 2-story house built in 1990. Included removal of old windows, which required cutting them out (including cutting through Hardiplank concrete siding.) Work was performed in July 2005.
