Affordable TV Repairs

Initial visit diagnosed the problem and established that a new part was needed. The part was ordered and installed within a week of the part's being ordered. The repair was performed in the home though it was a major repair. It was helpful to have the repair completed on site as my TV was quite large and heavy. The picture is now back to factory specs and the TV is running like new. Very satisfied with the whole experience and would definitely recommend this firm.

When I called Affordable TV Repairs, I explained what was going on with my TV, and I arranged for Lucas, the owner, to come take a look. He arrived on time, and when I showed him what was happening, he knew immediately what was wrong. Since this was an older TV, I told him that if he didn't think he could fix it for less than $500, I didn't want to bother with it. He explained that he needed to look inside and replace either a module (which would be fairly cheap) or the entire circuit board (which would cost $450). His house call cost $50, so I confirmed that the most I'd spend to get the TV fixed would be $500. He said absolutely, and also said if he could not fix it, there would be no charge. I thought that a bit odd, since it was up to me to deliver this huge, 56" DLP Toshiba TV to his business in Milwaukie! I got help to load the TV into my son's truck, and after securing it and wrapping it in a tarp (it was raining hard), I drove out to Milwaukie, and Lucas helped unload into his garage. He said he'd contact me about what he found out. I waited about ten days, and then called Lucas to ask what the progress was. He said he had ordered the circuit board, but it was on back order from Toshiba, and hadn't come yet. Once the board arrived and he had installed and tested it, he called to say I could come pick it up. Again, another rainy, blustery day, but we got the TV loaded and secured and took it to my son's apartment in Vancouver. Lucas had advised us to wait a day or two before we turned it on to allow it to dehumidify, and that made sense, considering the weather it had to travel in. We hooked it all up a week after, and it didn't work for the purpose we wanted: as a huge monitor for my son's PlayStation 3. We tried everything we could think of, and nothing worked. I called Lucas the next day, and he was surprised. He suggested a few things, which we had already tried, so he said he'd come and look at it. He did indeed come,and after confirming that other devices worked (a DVD player) he thought it might be a software issue between the new PS3 and this 6 year old TV. He did not charge for the house call, and said he would do some investigation into what to do. He thought some sort of hardware interface might be necessary. In the meantime, my son's girlfriend did some online research and discovered that this was a known problem in the PS3 community. She found some instructions, they tried them, and everything worked. We let Lucas know that all was well. I would recommend Affordable TV Repair to any of my friends, and I would use them again if I need to. The oddest thing about the whole experience was having to deliver and pick up my TV to his place of business. If you have a big TV and no big car or truck to transport it, this might not be the best choice for you.

I had to follow up with Luke 1 week later to find out if he was able to get a hold of Hitatchi. He said Hitatchi did not call him back. After 1 month from when Luke visited he still had not called us back. My husband called Luke on December 31 and left Luke a message to call him back. As of today we have not heard from Luke so we've gone out and bought a new TV taking advantage of the good sales. We know that Luke was at the mercy of Hitatchi calling him back but we feel if Luke would have just kept us updated INSTEAD of us having to call him.

My 63" plasma tv had "died" - unclear as to why but possibly related to power outages/spikes/surges. Luke was quick to schedule an appointment, looked on site for problems, realized it wasn't a "standard" power supply problem. He gave an estimate, took it to his shop for diagnosis and found the main board had failed. He ordered, replaced, tested, and delivered a fully working tv. His time on site was perfectly professional, courteous, and efficient.

For the last month or so, my TV has had a hard time starting up, until this week it was taking up to 15 minutes to turn on (it would try to turn on, click off, then try and turn on...and cycle through that the entire time). I called based on the reviews published on these pages...and I wasn't disappointed. I described the problem to him. He indicated its a common and repairable problem and estimated the cost (which is what I paid). He arrived at the scheduled time and made the repairs to the power supply panel right there in the family room. He closed up the TV, turned it on and it turned on! Ha... 6 month warranty on his work to boot.

Lucas was very prompt and responsive. He was professional, and he explained all of our options clearly. He delivered on all of his promises in a timely fashion, and he gave us recomendations for future TV purchases, which we will follow.. We would definitely use this service again should it be needed.

He was right on with the estimate. He was right on time and worked very efficiently. A very nice gentleman.

Mr. Garda came on time. He took the old bulb out and told us it had exploded. He put in the new bulb. Before he left he had us plug in our T.V. , so that he could see that it worked and had a clear picture.

He had me describe the components connected to the TV and the behavior with various settings. He walked me through the TV Sound settings on the menu and found that it was due to the Speaker setting being set to 'Audio System' rather than 'TV Speakers'. Not sure how that setting got changed - but the TV sound now works and I can still play it through my Receiver/Speakers, too. He saved me the difficulty of bringing it in somewhere for service or paying someone to come out!

They set up a same day appointment but by following their instructions I was able to fix the problem myself. They saved me time and money.

My TV wouldn't turn on so I called Advanced TV repair. He came to my house the next day and fixed it on the spot. He was friendly, efficient and fast. My TV is working great!

THANKS Angie's List and Advanced TV Repair! Our TV had lost its color and all it had was a rainbow affect. Its an old set (bought in 1999/Panasonic) and when I spoke with Richard he knew what was probably wrong even before he came to our home. Gave us several types of things that could be wrong with it and told us what it would cost for each. We made an appointment and he was on right on time and went right to work. It was what he had suspected it would be and told me that it would cost no more than what he had quoted, $150.00. When he opened the back of our TV he cleaned the area and then fixed the problem. Not only did he fix the problem but solved and fixed a few future problems, at no extra charge, by soldering other cracked connections.Richard explained everything he was doing as he went along and why. He went above and beyond what was required. He said that with the extra connections fixed, our TV should last for many years more. He then cleaned off the inside and outside of the TV, put everything back in place and was finished in no time at all. It was wonderful to have that kind of service and to feel good knowing that I have someone to call in the future that is honest and an excellent worker. I called Lucian on 12/20/10 describing that the TV would not always turn on, instead displaying a 6 or 7 blink LED. I had learned this meant one of two switch mode power supply control integrated circuits had failed, and the problem would soon become permanent rather than intermittent. (This proved to be true that evening.) Lucian immediately recognized this problem over the telephone, saying it was common to Sony sets that were otherwise nearly bulletproof. Said he had the required parts and could stop by the house the next morning. He replaced two MCZ3001 IC's, carefully soldering them into place. He said this was both curative and preventative, as it was likely only one had failed, but the other could before long, too. He visually inspected all power supply connections, and touched up a few with his soldering iron where he thought future problems could arise. He was totally professional, extremely knowledgeable, prompt, and tidy in his work. He charged exactly the amount he quoted over the telephone the prior day for this repair. I highly recommend him to all, and would not hesitate to call him again.

Our TV suddenly stopped working, and I found Advanced TV Repair here and called. That day, he came to our house to fix the TV. He did arrive a bit later than originally promised (I'm guessing due to other repairs), but the service and professionalism and expertise more than made up for that. I would absolute recommend him!

I used Advanced TV Repair because of the Angie's list review and after calling the store where I purchased the TV. The store told me it would take 2 weeks to have someone come out. Advanced came out the next day, on time, on budget. He was very professional and I would use him again.

My TV developed the odd problem of not actually turning off when I hit the power button. It would make a noise like "dit dit dit dit dit . . ." and the screen would still slightly glow, visible when the lights were off. It had to be unplugged to make it stop, and we were afraid that it might burst into flames or something if we left it like that, but otherwise it was fine. We lived with this for several months as we decided whether it would be worth it to repair. When I called and talked to Luc, based on positive reviews on Angie's List, he seemed familiar with this problem and estimated that it would cost $300 or so to repair. We had bought the TV new for more than $2400 and were otherwise happy with it, so we decided to have it repaired. He came on the morning we had arranged and opened up the TV in the living room. Apparently this TV has two computer boards in it: an inexpensive one ($100) and an expensive one ($300). He said that usually the inexpensive one is the one that goes out, and he brought one with him. Unfortunately, he diagnosed the problem in the expensive board after about 15 minutes. He said he could repair it that day inexpensively regardless which board it was if I was willing to give up on the surround sound to our speakers through the stereo system. I was not willing to make this sacrifice, so he needed to replace the expensive computer board, which he would have to order. (When I asked, he reassured me that these boards are known to give out, but not so often that it was likely to happen again if it was replaced.) He suggested that it would be easiest if he took the TV with him to his shop and replaced the board when the part arrived, which would take about a week. We have another TV, so I agreed. I helped him carry the TV to his truck since he was alone and the TV weighs at least 200 pounds. About a week later, just when I was starting to wonder when he would call, he called to say that it was ready, then delivered it that day. This time he brought someone to help him carry it into the house. He connected almost everything back to the TV (VCR, stereo receiver, HD receiver, DVD player) and made sure it was working before he left. The cost exceeded his first phone estimate because of the expensive board being the problem, which as he said is not often the case, but I felt that I had been forewarned well enough and appreciated that he had given me a less-expensive alternative. It has been worth it not to need to unplug the TV after every time I turn it off, then plug it back in before I can watch something. The TV is like new again, for a lot less money than the purchase of another one, plus I don't need to feel guilty about it going to waste in a landfill or recycling yard. So I felt that I had made the right decision and chose the right repairman.

Great. Lucian arrived promptly and with the proper replacement parts (our phone conversation had given him some clues as to what might be wrong). He had the TV fixed in moments, moving it w/o help. I asked him if he would mind taking a look at the VCR and DVD players then, and he fixed them, too. Very professional and a nice man who obviously knows his business. Would call him again in a heartbeat. Have also recommended him to others.

He was able to diagnose and repair the connection problem. Everything went very well and the price was reasonable. I was very happy with his work and would use him again.

Mr. Garda arrived promptly that morning to attempt diagnosis and repair. Unfortunately, the TV is mounted on our wall and is very heavy. I was at work and only my pregnant wife was available. He attempted to call a colleague to assist him, but when that didn't happen, he said he would return in the evening when I was home, which he did, again very promptly. We struggled and managed to get the TV off of its mount. He opened up the TV and immediately diagnosed the problem as a few blown power packs. He quoted a price and proceeded to repair and replace the damaged parts right on our living room floor, completing the task in about 15-20 minutes. We plugged it in, tested that it functioned again, and then struggled for another 20 minutes to get the TV back on its mount above our fireplace. Our TV was in a tight spot and hard to take down and put back up again. It actually took us longer to do that than the actual repair. He was very patient and made sure that the TV was returned to its place and functioning. He easily earned his money with just that effort. I appreciated his excellent service, and even though I hope not to have any more problems with our TV, I would use him again.

Lucien came to our home on a Saturday. He was on time - courteous and professional. He did not have the part (a lamp) that was needed. He promised to come over on Monday as soon as he could get the lamp. He quoted me 250.00 and did not charge the 40.00 house-call service fee, since he was going to do the repair. He came on Monday with the part, quickly fixed the TV. I would highly recommend Lucien to anyone. He is honest, capable and knows his stuff!

I called Lucian Garda I explained my problem, and ask how much he thought it would be? he gave me a price of $140.00 on the phone. I ask when he could come to fix it? He ask me if between 2:00 and 2:30 would be alright, I said fine. He came the same day I called him. I showed him what my TV was doing he then explained to me in detail why it was only coming on at certain times.He also showed me what parts were bad. He checked everything to make sure nothing else would go wrong and found that it needed more parts then he first thought and said he was replacing them I ask how much more was it going to cost? He said just what I quoted you .He was very friendly, and knew what he was doing. Was very neat. He gave me my warranty and showed me the parts that were bad.
