I was burglarized last week and my front door was damaged beyond repair. I contacted Handyman Matters based on their Angie's List Reviews. The kindness and concern shown to me by Leslie, the office manager and her assistant was much appreciated. My feeling secure in my home was a priority for both of them. Leslie was able to get an estimate out to me that day and arranged for Marian to come and measure the door. They were able to work me into a very busy schedule. Jim picked up the door for me at HomeDepot and installed it on Wednesday and when he left, I had a new door that was very secure. He came back today to finish-up a couple of things. His workmanship was excellent and I really appreciated his attention to detail. I couldn't be happier with the final results. I have a few other projects I need to take care of around the house and based on my experience this past week, I can't imagine using any other company than Handyman Matters.

Marian from Handyman Matters is excellent. He's very knowledge, explained things as he went along, and also pointed out some things for me to know in order to keep the house well maintained. I'd highly recommend Handyman Matters. In fact, I already did to a friend. He had a different worker from Handyman Matters who also did great work!

Project got off to slow start due to confusing communications with the aggregator, but once it became clear to whom the work was assigned, all proceeded smoothly.

The very nice gentleman who came did not know how to fix the toilet He did not seem so sure about the other things either and because they charge for 2 hours and he could not fix everything, he called his office and let them know he could not do the job and got permission from someone to not charge me. He suggested I buy new parts for the toilet and call them back. I was impressed with the honesty of the handyman and his feelings of responsibility about not charging me for something he could not do. A few days later, I messed around with the toilet and fixed it. Therefore, I did not need to order parts and since Handyman matters has a 2 hour minimum, I called a handyman that would only charge for his time by the hour. He fixed the sink and I figured I was done with my issues. A few days later I went on a vacation and when I got home I had a couple of calls from Handyman Matters on my machine. They wanted my email address, money for the prior visit and to know if I had received my parts. I got sick when I got home and did not call anybody. Today is the first day I have left the house. When I got home there was another message from Handyman Matters, asking for $135.00 for the house call and threatening to send me to a collection agency if I did not immediately pay which was odd because they had not even sent any kind of bill. I called and told them I had been assured that I did not owe them anything for the call since their man could not fix what I had requested and notified them that that I would never call them for anything ever again. Somehow I feel this will not be the end of this issue. Update 10-20-2015 - Handyman Matters has accused me of taking advantage of small companies, pulling the victim card, not appreciating their kindness and just being a bad member of Angie's List. I hope from my review other potential customers can see that I was just someone who was trying to get some things repaired and hired someone who could not complete the task - but at the time - was very impressed with the integrity of the worker and I thought, the Company This was my 3rd review for Angie's List service providers and the other 2 were A's. My low rating for Handyman Matters was based on the demanding messages on my phone which were such a shock. I was surprised they felt I had a financial obligation to them as I had listened to the phone conversation saying they would not charge me because they could not do the work. Also there was the inconvenience of scheduling myself to be home twice to get the repairs done before I left for my vacation.. In retrospect I think they must have felt I had some sort of obligation to call them when I "got my new Parts" but since I fixed that problem myself without needing parts, I just hired someone else.

My first encounter with the woman on the phone was positive. I needed (a) two chandeliers hung with two light switched changed out, (b) 5 curtain rods hung, (c) a couple large pictures hung up, and (d) I wanted to have the caulking looked at on my kitchen sink. The woman strongly suggesting we have two men come out for the chandeliers and book a 4 hour block. I thought four hours seemed long, but she said if they finished early( which seemed reasonable) I could have them work on other projects listed above. The day of service, the first man came out ( I think his name was Kevin) at 8:30 and immediately got to work on one of the chandeliers. The second man showed up 25 minutes due to traffic, which was understandable (I was fine with that). The man working in the chandelier was able to complete the project alone never needing the help from the other person. The other man ( I think his name was Martin) spent the first 30 minutes installing 2 light switches. the next 2 hours he spend installing only 1 curtain rod. In 2.5 hours of service Martin was only able to install one curtain rod and 2 light switches, which I thought was completely inefficient and unprofessional. After he hung the second one up he realized he made a error and asked if I wanted it fixed. At this point he had only 55 minutes left. Magically the other 3 rods were put up in less then 40 minutes with about 15 minutes to spare to fix the other problems. Here is my major criticism: I found your company on Angie's List because I wanted to high quality efficient company to complete these projects since I injured my hand. I have recently moved into a new house with new furniture with freshly painted walls. The two worker never put an coverings over my furniture or floor. The man installing the curtain rods made two errors which left 4 unnecessary holes in the wall. The second was not level, so I had to bring someone else in to fix it over the weekend always. Both men kept dropping their tools and screws in my new hard wood floors (scratching the floor in two areas) My dinning room table was left with dirt and wall shavings and I ended up having to clean up after them. In the end I send $650.00 for 4 curtain rods and two chandeliers not even having time to address anything else. The second individual didn't appear to be needed for the chandelier and seemed to waste a lot of time. He kept going to his van to get tools and by the 6th time I thought, " is this really necessary to change just one curtain rod. In the end I felt that the quality of service and efficiency was very poor leaving me with a $650 bill. I have utilized many services from Angie's list since I bought my house in August and have not probably paying for great work. This services was very disappointing leaving me feeling stupid and ripped off.

Our original assigned handyman was unable to make it due to an injury. We were so disappointed, particularly as we were hosting 40 people at home that evening for a barbecue, and all the crown molding was still on the floor! However, Handyman Matters was able to send out an alternate handyman just a few hours later. Greg was FANTASTIC and we were SO grateful to have our crown molding up in time for our event. Thank you so much for the excellent work! We will definitely use again!

It went extremely well! He was professional and filled the two-hour window repairing and inspecting. He wasted no time. By the time he left, I felt much better about the house/yard as winter approaches. Kelly had the integrity to tell me what he could and couldn't do. Very important! I anticipate calling on him when needed and also to do a general inspection quarterly or at least semi-annually. Kell

It went really well. We were actually scheduled for the following week, but their scheduler realized that Greg would be working on Saturday and could come then. That was a huge bonus for me since I am a teacher and it's really hard to get time off during the week. It took Greg less than an hour and then he hauled away all the doors and tracks too. At first I thought it was a little pricey, but then realized there would be dump fees and, that by hauling away the old doors, I didn't have to deal with anything more.

I had a time crunch and they were booked up, but the office staff remembered my call and when they had a last minute cancellation, they called me back and fit me in. The repairman was prompt and did a great job, especially when the faucet replacement turned out to be more complicated than I had anticipated. He knew what needed to be done and now both faucets work. The closet doors also look great. I will definitely use this company again.

I have used Handyman Matters multiple times in the past few years. All of the services were great. Recently I booked an appointment for baseboard work, painting, and a door repair. Two issues occurred: 1) Their finish carpenter can't come out because his car is broken and can't drive 20 miles, however, he can drive short distances, 2) The rates have increased to $85 an hour for a handyman, we are not talking about a journeymen plumber or electrician. VERY DISAPPOINTED! Business is good now, but it isn't always that way.

Manager did not even follow up with a phone call this morning.

Kelly ( the handyman ) was a true professional as well as a perfectionist, taking great pride in his work. He could have left when what I had wanted done was completed. I had paid for 4 hours. Rather than leave early we discussed at length upcoming projects involving the hanging of some very heavy mirrors, the moving and reconstruction of some very heavy Ikea shelves ( without directions!), replacing the crown moulding of some living room shelves and the repair of a downstairs door. Having just moved from a condo in downtown Portland which was contracted with a firm that supplied all services, including painting, plumbing, HVAC etc., I didn't know where to turn when it came to the special services such as Handyman provides. I will be contacting them next week to schedule me with the projects that I mentioned and you can be sure I will request Kelly, even if it means delaying the job in order to get him. Too bad he's not my next door neighbor! I have already referred him and the company to my neighbors downtown. Thanks to Angie's List and Handyman Matters for making my life much easier. Bill Few

Crew leader called night before to confirm date and time as earlier agreed upon, 2 person crew arrived on time and carried out work in quiet, focused manner. Crew leader was flexible with minor changes and work was well done. In addition, the job along was completed in advance of the expected end date - and below the estimated amount. I recommend this firm to others.

I was weary about using Handyman Matters to be honest, because of all the recent negative reviews. But I needed this work done, and they had availability, so I decided to give them a chance. The handyman came right on time, was very professional, and very skilled. He gave me an estimate right up front, went to Home Depot to get what he needed, and then did all the tasks, one after the other, and got everything done. He clearly knew what he was doing, and ripped right through all the work. I'm very happy with the quality of the work, and his ability to listen and do as I asked. The one drawback is that these guys are expensive, there's no getting around that. But availability, reliability, and high quality work they definitely deliver on. I definitely recommend them and will be using them in the future.

He was undaunted, tackling one job after another, and he gave each task his full attention and great skill. I'm very impressed that he was more than willing to tackle all the tasks I needed accomplished. I am happy with his work, and I would use this company again, without hesitation. I even felt comfortable running out for an appointment during the 4 hours he worked. I understand this company is raising its rates and adding a $50 travel fee, which is a bit of a deterrent, but it still may be less costly than hiring so many specialists.

Good work. Good price. Good clean up. Will call Handyman Matters in future. LIno and his apprentice very professional.

Paid more then was expected , had some issues but all in all the installer did a great job!

I was contacted well within the 24-hour limit cited to me by Angie's List. Unfortunately, the company could not make an appointment for almost 2 weeks (the one negative with our interaction), but since none of my work was time-critical this did not make a difference to me. The appointment was confirmed the evening before our appointment, which I appreciated and the worker (Bill) arrived right on time. He was courteous, friendly, professional, and very capable at his job. He was also flexible, taking all my suggestions into account, and even did a "consultation" on jobs I thought I might like to have done in the future. Will I use Handyman Matters in the future? Yes, yes, yes.

Superb! We could not truly judge the final outcome until our new GE slide in smooth top range was delivered some 5 days later. Fit and finish is perfect. I had other providers to choose from but what convinced us to give a Handyman Matters our business was how well the communications flowed prior to even seeing anyone in person. The office manager, Leslie, carefully listened to our needs and even suggested ways we could save money! Explained we would receive a call evening before the scheduled appointment, which we did from Rick the Handyman. Rick gave us a heads up the first call he had prior to our appointment may possibly run over but promised to call with an update. Rick called the next day prior to our scheduled appointment - to let us know he may be a couple hours longer on his current job due to unexpected circumstances causing a delay. Stuff happens but what impressed us most was the communication - to be informed sooner than later. Rick arrived an hour sooner and immediately dug in. We reviewed the job needs and I gave Rick the GE installation instruction details. Rick measured the cut needs multiple times then took extra precaution to ensure top quality workmanship and minimize any damage to surrounding surfaces. Rick had with him an amazing arsenal of tools that allowed to measure and perform cuts swiftly, make minor adjustments to perfection. After the cuts were made and triple checked Rick moved on to the next phase of the project installing an electrical outlet in place of the previously hard wired installation. Here Rick discovered the previous home builders kludged the hard wired electrical outlet which he fixed without a fuss. Very professional! The job was now done making ready for our new appliance. On the paperwork Rick carried with him the job was estimated at 4.5 hours total time and I expected to pay that full amount. Instead I was presented with a final bill for time and materials (as promised) and paid a lot less. Why did I choose Angie's List and Handyman Matters? I have used Home Depot and Lowes professional installation services in the past many times before. Each time there was some kind of miscommunication between departments that led to more time needed to complete the job, material delivery delays, extra cost in materials, all due to underestimating or miscommunication. Not so with Handyman Matters! They really are the pro's you should call FIRST! Summary: Not only did we save more than 50 percent in job cost there were no communication problems whatsoever and the job was completed on time and under budget. Thank You Handyman Matters AND Angie's List!

Spoke with someone in the office who informed me that they work on time and materials. I understand the concept. I was trying to explain the job I had but apparently didn't have the right words. I was told my "job is to small to send someone out to look at it". I thought that was quite rude, especially when I'm ony a mile or two from their office.

Robert was fabulous. Professional, competent and fast!

I had an appointment for Thursday May 28th. The customer service lady called and asked if I could move my appointment to Saturday May 30th between 12-1 instead to help them out. I agreed, however, no one showed up or called on the 30th.

Kory, the owner, is super. He is prompt, very thorough, knows a lot about construction, materials etc. is creative in suggesting solutions. In short, he is head and shoulders better than many others I have used. His price is reasonable, and he even absorbed some of the excess cost over his bid, which was otherwise right one. His workmen are first rate. They show up on time, do the work well and are very accommodating.

We have used Angie's List for several years and have had good outcomes. For this particular project we were unable to find anyone who knew how to work with wall laminates. after contacting several vendors handyman matters responded and had someone that did do laminates and he has done excellent work. The first shower went well and when the contractor started on the second shower he detected moisture. He located and capped a leaking supply line, and is in the process now of completing the second shower. All during the process their business office has been in contact to make sure the project is going well. these are great people. I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

Handyman Matters is an AWESOME company! They contacted me prior to the job to discuss details. Robert was punctual, polite, and very knowledgeable. He replumbed my guest bathroom to accommodate a nicer vanity and he did so in a creative and thoughtful manner. His design idea made the bathroom much better than originally constructed. Robert was a hard worker and a fast worker. He purchased supplies with his own money (I reimbursed him, I just didn't have the cash on hand when he went to the store). I list this only because he went so far above and beyond expectations. He was very clean and cleaned/vacuumed after he was done -- I didn't expect that level of detail. I'm already planning my next project to use Handyman Matters. A++!
