I bought the coupon special on Angies list and called to make the appointment. They were able to come in just a few days despite it being the busy season. They were right on time, did their work quickly and efficiently and were very helpful in letting me know various things about the fireplace and chimney operations and maintenance. I would definitely recommend them and will use them again.
Description of Work: They came and cleaned the very dirty chimney of the house I just bought and inspected everything to ensure all was safe before I used the fireplace for the first time.

the service was average. their business practice is in violation of the Federal Trade Commission. telling customers that they shred copies of invoices when they get back in the office is not comforting & still not legal. you need to change your practice ASAP Federal Law Requires All Businesses to Truncate Credit Card Information on Receipts What?s on the credit and debit card receipts you give your customers? The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation?s consumer protection agency, says it?s time for companies to check their receipts and make sure they?re complying with a law that?s been in effect for all businesses since December 1, 2006. According to the federal Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA), the electronically printed credit and debit card receipts you give your customers must shorten ? or truncate ? the account information. You may include no more than the last five digits of the card number, and you must delete the card?s expiration date. For example, a receipt that truncates the credit card number and deletes the expiration date could look like this: ACCT: ***********12345 EXP: ****
Description of Work: having moved into this newly purchased 1954 construction home, we wanted to make sure the 2 fire places sharing the same chimney flue were cleaned properly. we also wanted to add 2 chimney caps. apparently the fire places were never used, perfectly clean and we still paid $97x2 for chimney cleaning. we asked about caps and they only sell stainless steel caps at $135 each! we needed 2 installed, same chimney flue - thought we would get a break on the installation price since they were already here and up on the roof .. not a chance! they showed up on time and finished in less that 13 minutes .. what was NOT acceptable was the fact that they handed me my invoice with my credit card number written on it by hand .. now this piece of paper not only had my name, phone number, address it now has my full credit card #, expiration date and SECURITY CODE all on 1 piece of paper. that practice has been illegal sine December 1st, 2006. Federal Law Requires All Businesses to Truncate Credit Card Information on Receipts. in advising the vendor that this practice was illegal, he stated that they have always doen it that way. well folks, it is NOT OK to keep doing business that way; you compromise credit card information and will lose customers that way .. you have lost this one.

They were courteous and informative with logical explanations regarding the improper installation of my stove.
Description of Work: They Inspected fireplace, spotted big error when Shamburg Fireplace installed Country fireplace insert. The cement Shamburg had used around the pipe was crumbled and the pipe easily slips in and out of the stove making it dangerous to use. Master Sweep swept the fireplace and chimney and, advised me not to use the fireplace until it had been secured. They also cleaned out my dryer vent.

I purchase a $97 inspection and sweep for my 1927 Bungalow that I'd purchased about eight months ago. In the purchase inspection, the inspector did not have the capabilities to look at the chimney, so I was interested in its quality. Master sweep was very communicable in my transaction, even working around a scheduling error I had made. When they arrived, they introduced themselves and looked at the outside of the chimney, pointing out issues with the mortar that would need to eventually be addressed. Initially, they were worried that there was too much corrosion due to weather and the lack of a chimney cap. However, after examining the inside, they noted that the interior was actually in decent condition and offered enough strength to hold the fire. After cleaning the chimney (in which they brought in a drop cloth, a shop-vac, and tools) they told me what needed attention, gave me notes, and bids for potential upcoming jobs. They were very professional, helpful, and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure having them come work on the house. Fully recommend.
Description of Work: They surveyed the chimney on my 1927 Bungalow from inside the house and on the roof. They evaluated the chimney's current quality and overall wear. They informed me about what the current condition is. They looked at my furnace exhaust and checked that chimney. They then cleaned the chimney and advised me on the condition of the fire box and the chimney. They gave me estimates on what needs work in the future and gave me bids on those aspects.

I called inquiring about the $97 coupon on Angie's List, asking if it was for wood stove pipes. The woman I spoke with confirmed coupon price of $97, however, when they arrived, I was told wood stoves were $140. Once Jason heard that I had been misquoted, he only charged me for the $97 quoted price even though I offered to pay $140. They were professional, efficient and thorough. I was extremely pleased and asked them to contact me during the summer to schedule the next cleaning.

They did a great job, showed up on time and made a repair which I can't remember exactly what it was but I know I needed it because the home inspector pointed it out when I bought the house and I forgot about it until the technician found the problem and resolved it. I would use them again.

He went on the roof and took pictures of the chimney cover to show me it was very rusted and allowing water to pool up there. It needed to be replaced. I was a little surprised that it cost almost $600 to replace that but since he came with high marks and through "Angie's List" I believe that is just what it cost. It's getting taken care of as I type. There was good communication and I appreciate that.
Description of Work: The visit was to check out our chimney and clean it. This is a 23 yr old house we just bought. The fireplace cleaning was very efficient and clean.

Cleaning and inspection of chimney and firebox. Mastersweep gave me a written estimate for work needed. He said my chimney was filthy. It took less than 15 minutes for this service including loading and unloading the vacuum. It took us 3 appointments to finally get this service. 1st apt he showed up when I had to leave to pick my kids up from school and when I scheduled the apt they said the tech would call before he came over. 2nd apt I double booked myself. 3rd apt he had difficulty finding my place. Each rescheduling took about 2 weeks. The work that he says needs to be done to the chimney has to be performed on a dry day. I thought it would have taken longer. I wish I would have stayed in the room to watch the service performed.

They missed 2 appointments and when they did show up to finish the work the owner said he would need another $2200 for more repairs to "do it right". This money is much more than we can afford being both on social security. We have had the chimney and wood stove serviced every 2 years since my wife bought the property 14 years ago. None of the chimney people ever even mentioned the things Jason found. The fire bricks were in need of repair but I am not sure the work on the chimney was done right as part of the flashing they repaired looks loose and I can not climb up on the roof to check it out.
Description of Work: They cleaned wood stove and chimney, put new fire brick in the wood stove when they finally came back to finish the work. Then the owner kept finding things to repair much more than anyone else ever had found. They did not show up two times scheduled ) to complete work after we had to pay 1/2 down ( we had stayed home waiting for them)

I have yet to actually see the sweep done as this was done at my rental property. My complaint is I received a phone call with recommendations to fix and/or add items to the chimney. I have since responded with a request for a written proposal to complete the work... it's 12/11/12 and I have yet to hear back.

I would love to write a positive review of Master Sweep, but I have received terrible customer service from them, so bad that my job, which I scheduled more than a month ago is still not done. I have sent multiple e-mails and made multiple calls to Master Sweep, but they have been almost totally unresponsive to the point that I wonder if they want my (or anyone's) business. I hesitate to write a negative review, but their extremely poor service (not even responding when I told them I planned to write a review of their "service") has left me no choice. I used Master Sweep in 2011 to clean our chimney. They showed up on time, did a good job and gave me an estimate for some additional work on my fireplace. I was not ready to have that work done at that time and e-mailed them this fall (2012) to return to do the fireplace work. I got a fairly quick reply, complete with a description of the work they had estimated and a price (from what I recall, it was close or the same as the original estimate). We set up a time for them to come do the work. From that point on, my experience with Master Sweep went way downhill. I was given a four-hour window for their arrival (between 12 and 4). Around 3:00, I hadn't heard anything, so I called and left a message at the office to see when they might arrive. They arrived shortly after, but only to say that they couldn't do the work because they hadn't brought the proper equipment. They said their computer had broken (or something like that), so they didn't realize they needed special equipment for my job. They promised to call me back the next day to reschedule. Several days passed, and I hadn't heard anything back from them, so I sent an e-mail. It took a day or two more for them to respond, and that message was, "My apology for the little wait. I will go through the the schedule and give you a call monday morning with all the information." Well, Monday came and went and I heard nothing back. I called and wrote several times without a response. Finally, I got someone to answer my call. She said she didn't know I was waiting for them to get back to me. They re-scheduled my work and again gave a two-hour window for the new appointment. Again, I waited at home for them to arrive. The arrival time came and went, and I called to find out when to expect them. My second attempt, I spoke with someone who told me she didn't know I had called earlier and didn't know why no one had showed up. She checked things out and called me back to say they wouldn't be showing up but didn't say why (I assume that if I hadn't called, they wouldn't have bothered to let me know they wouldn't be showing up). She said she could reschedule for five days out. Exasperated, I asked to speak with the owner and told her that I planned to write a review on Angie's List. She said he was out for a short time but would call me as soon as he returned. I got no call. I called again later in the day and left yet another message but got no call back. This is unbelievably bad customer service. Winter is about to begin, and my chimney still needs work. I had planned this work for early November, but Master Sweep has bungled the job. It's hard to chalk this up to an honest error on their part. When they show up unprepared, don't respond to multiple calls and e-mails, and don't show up at all the second time around, I have to blame it on incompetence and lack of any attention to customer service. If you're reading this and work for a competitor of chimney sweep, I would love for you to earn my business!
Description of Work: They were supposed to do work on my fireplace and chimney, but despite my best efforts (and their lack of effort) to get them to do the work, they never showed up to do the job.

After they had cleaned the chimney they said they would call in the summer to have the chimney sealed and they did. They were prompt and did an excellent job.
Description of Work: We had Master Sweep come out last year to sweep the chimney and they did an excellent job. They recommended that we have our fireplace sealed which we needed as it was leaking. In today's world this company was a breath of fresh air. I originally got the coupon for my renters to have the chimney of the rental checked and swept as a precautionary measure. The sweep went out and determined this chimeny did not need any work, it was clean and recommended I get my money back for the service as there was no work really to do. In the meantime my son had purchased a condo and the building inspector he hired told him to get the chimney cleaned before he had a fire. The sweep allowed me to transfer the coupon to my son and confirmed that the chimeny was a "fire waiting to happen" This was a three story Condo and the chimney not easy to reach. My son reported that they came in with thier equipment vacummed and brushed and showed him how to operate the flu, and where it had been dead air before the chimney now drew and you could feel the draft. They did an excellent job, had the ladders and equipment needed to do the job and were very courtius and effecient, no dirt or ashes and very professional.
Description of Work: The Chimney Sweep came out to the rental house that I own. I wanted to make sure the fireplace insert and chimney was safe for the new tenants to use. The Sweep examined the set up and said it did not need to be cleaned and was fine to use. He told my tenants I should call and get a refund on the certificate. I asked if instead he would go do my son's chimney at his condo rather than trying to get a refund. The home inspector who helped my son when he bought the place said he should have the chimney cleaned before he used it. In contrast to my rental property, the Sweep found that this was "a fire waiting to happen" and proceeded to clean the chimney.

I paid for a chimney sweep and inspection for my rental property. The person who came out to do the work recommended several repairs. I asked if he could email me a bid for these repairs. Never got the bid. 3 weeks later I called them again and asked for the bid. Never got it. I finally decided to install a gas insert. When I got over there to put it in I found they had left the flue open which meant that my poor tenants had been sending all their heat up the chimney for over a month. And on the flat part just above the flue where you can easily reach with a shop vac there was a 2 inch layer of ash and soot. So much that I almost filled a 5 gallon bucket when I cleaned it out!! I know that $100 is a pretty good deal to have you chimney cleaned and inspected. But since the chimney wasn't clean and I never got the information from the inspection, I'm not exactly sure what I paid for.

. The following 2 points suggest lack of professionalism on their part. 1. When the appointment was for an estimate to show up and tell that they have an agreed job. 2. To suggest to my wife that it is OK to put 2 new stainless steel caps in spite of a broken crown The rate is too high for the time spent on the job.
Description of Work: I had contacted 2 or 3 chimney guys to look at my chimney and give a quote for repairing the crown of the chimney and putting 2 caps. Since I had contacted 2 companies and decided on one of them, I cancelled my appointment with Master sweep. However when I was out on an errand, they showed up at my door and told my wife that they were at my house to do a chimney sweep (which I had not asked them). Even though the crown of my chimney was broken, they told my wife that they can put a cap. My wife called me over the phone and I talked to them and that I don't want a cap put without repairing the crown. They told me on the phone that they have a special deal for Angie's list customers of only $97/- for cleaning the chimney. I wanted to be considerate and asked them to do just the cleaning job for 97$/ fire place. As luck would have it, our neighbors dropped in at the same time and my wife was busy and did not know what they really did. I was at a grocery store and before I could be back they had finished the job and left. In all they had worked at the most between 15 to 20 minutes for a charge of $194 ( 2 people). When I came I back and inspected I was not satisfied.

The service men arrived timely and worked rapidly. I thought I was paying for a "chimney sweep" rather than just a fireplace cleaning, which I can do myself. They also inspected the chimney and presented me a list of items I should attended to, all amounting to $1100, which shocked me. I did need a chimney cap among other things but not at twice the price I can obtain elsewhere. I did not have the money to pay for such an expensive project so I told them perhaps the next summer. I never heard back from them.

They were quick and efficient. They removed their shoes at the door and took care to protect the rug and furniture near the fireplace. They made some good suggestions and put a reminder call for us on their calendar in four years. They called ahead to provide an approximate arrival time the morning we were scheduled to have them come out.
Description of Work: Master Sweep cleaned the chimney. It had not been cleaned in six years.
