Master Sweep

I needed my chimney cleaned for Christmas was upset when I bought on DEC 11th to be told I had only one choice because they only are in my area Dec 26th, well that does not work for my family and I do not like having no choice in dates especially when they made me wait so long to get the service.

It took a while for them to get to us but when they did they were knowledgeable, informative and cleaned up after themselves completely. Very good experience and I would call them again. |

The service was great and very tidy. We look forward to regular servicing in the off season.

It took a few days to get in contact with them to scheduled a time to complete the work, then the work was scheduled about two weeks out. Which was fine, I am sure they had a lot of business from the deal. The day before the work was to be performed, they called with a schedule time of 8-12 AM, which I managed to talk down to 9-10 AM. They also said I would get a phone call 30 minutes before arrival. The contractor called before arriving and arrived on schedule. They immediately got to work inspecting the fireplace, and running a cleaning brush through the chimney. I think they did a good job, but I've never had a chimney to clean before. I was a little disappointed with their "inspection" they only looked at the chimney from the ground and didn't get on the roof, they really only saw it from the fireplace side. Overall, they were punctual, courteous, professional, and the price was right. I think I will probably just buy a chimney brush and do this work myself for now on.

They responded to the Angie's List message asking me to call to schedule. I've called no fewer than ten times but can't get anyone to call me back.

Master Sweep is a great firm. Great value and excellent quality. But------they are so good that their business growth has created issues. In the middle of winter scheduling a sweep 3-5 weeks out will ultimately hurt their client loyalty. I had to cancel and use another firm who was good; not great but they were there for me and Master Sweep was not. I can not wait 4-5 weeks for service to heat my home in the winter months. Who can? A typical problem related to managing success. Better learn how or your customer base will slip away, Angie's List won't help you.

They came and checked out our two fireplaces in a short sale house we had bought. We weren't sure what kind of condition the chimneys were in. They were very thorough cleaning them and had suggestions in keeping them clean and sealed from drafts into the house.

We scheduled an appointment with Master Sweep. They gave us a 4 hour window in which they would show up to perform the service 12-4:00. I was caught in traffic, called their number to let them know I was on the way- left a voice message and arrived at home at 12:05. We had a voice mail later in the day saying they had arrived early and would wait until 12:00 and then leave. They never called us back even after several attempts to contact them over several days. We have yet to hear from them. I had to take a half day off from work to meet them, their behavior was very unprofessional and inconsiderate.

They returned my call in a timely manner. They were also friendly but they couldn't schedule me in time so I went with another company.

We hired them to replace the chimney cap and fix the roof. We were given a choice of caps, one significantly more expensive but we would have matching caps on the roof. We chose the less expensive. I paid for the cap over the phone and set a date for installation. The date came and went. I called the office. This scenario repeats FOUR times so I will not write it four times and the woman who answers the phones said well we weren't able to get the chimney cap from our usual provider so we have had to change providers. Again, a new date was set. Same no contact scenario. This time with a slightly different excuse. After the fourth time I asked for our money to be returned as it became apparent we were going into winter with no chimney cap. The good things I can say about the company. Had we stopped at the chimney cleaning we would have an A. When I asked for money back they returned it promptly. The lack of communication four times, the fact they removed the chimney cap without being asked to (they are very heavy) and left us an uncovered chimney, and the fact they could not follow through on promised service give them a very low grade overall.

I really appreciated the job completed by these folks - once they were onsite. Professional, timely, personable and provided valuable maintenance information. They responded promptly to my request for an appointment. But the "connect" between information provided by Angie's List and the reality of scheduling was vast. A.L. had me offer up 3 dates in the near future - the next week. The firm was unable to schedule me for over a month into the future. I most likely would not have purchased this coupon from A.L. if I had known the actual time delay I would experience. The only other comment I share is a personal irritation with the practice of making appointments with a large window, i.e. between noon and 5pm. I'm not sure who this model works for - but it is not the person receiving services. To Master Sweeps credit they did narrow the window to 3 hours at my request and called 30 minutes before arrival. So, Master Sweeps did a great job and I will definitely use them again. Angie's List perhaps needs to more clearly share conditions of service when offering coupons, with both consumers and service firms to alleviate misunderstandings. Thanks Master Sweeps!

This was an Angie's List coupon, so I expected a top notch process and service. Unfortunately, I experienced neither and I will beware of Angie's List coupons again. When I bought the Angie's List coupon I had to enter in preferred times, so I had to work with my tenants before buying the coupon to complete the online form. Fine. In the 'special instructions' of the text box, I wrote to please call my tenants at said number to confirm schedule. Two weeks later I got an irritated call from my tenant saying she hadn't heard from them. So I called the vendor and discussed. The receptionist was very rude and said, "We can't keep up with all these coupons. We told you all to call." Apparently they wrote a quick email that said, "Please call us." I thought that was annoying. They should call the customer, not the other way around. So they said they'd call tenant. When they did, I figured it was taken care of. Instead, I got yet another call from tenant that said they would not be able to get to the job for several months. So, I called them back to ask for refund. They called me back and immediately squeezed me in. That was why I didn't give them an F for responsiveness. In the end, they came and they seemed to know what they were doing, but I really have no idea when it comes to chimneys. In the end, they were confused as if they'd sent me a bill. They finally called me up and asked if they had come out yet. I laughed. I told them they had come out, and said I'd already paid. I said the sweeper said they would email the receipt to me. I never received it, so I told the receptionist. My advice is to fire the receptionist and manager who runs the company.

Cleaned and inspected chimney; quoted repair and prevention work. Very nice guy; nice work, thoroughly cleaned up afterward, and gave solid advice. Office followup took a few extra days.

I had trouble scheduling the service. I called a number of times, left messages, but got no call back. Once I heard from them, the service was excellent.

They were fast, clean and very respectful of my home. Very nice guys and I will definitely use them in the future and recommend to others.

In November it took almost a week to reach anyone at this business and after a misunderstanding with Rachell when I did reach someone I finally was able to make an appointment for December 14th. Both Jason and Josh were on time and very professional. They removed their shoes upon entering my house, were very polite and knowlegeable. They left everything clean and tidy. Now I feel confident to use both fireplacs the next time we have very cold weather.

I purchased the Big Deal for Master Sweep.

No response from provider, tried a second time and made purchase. It read "Cart is empty", tried calling Master Sweep. No greeting, no answer.

The service provider was scheduled to arrive between 9 and noon. They arrived at 9.30 AM. There were a team of two. While the first person inspected the inside of the fireplaces the other inspected the outside chimney. They cleaned both fireplaces, which took about 5-10 minutes apiece. They left no mess and the fireplaces looked spotless after they were finished. They detected a problem with one of the chimney's. It was slightly damp isnide. They explained that it was due to water dropping down off one of the chimney caps into the fireplace and told me that we needed to replace the chimney caps with a multiflue cap. They quoted me a price of $460 for the multiflue cap and installation and offered a $60 discount for the recycling and reuse of the two existing stainless steel caps. After discussing with my husband, we decided to phone around to see if the bid seemed reasonable. Overall, it turned out to be a bit on the high end for an estimate. Also, we have found the customer service for Master Sweep to be lacking. They are not particularly friendly on the phone and we have had a problem with return phone calls. We have now decided to have the work done with another company and we'll see how that goes.

MasterSweep was very good about setting up the appointment. They called me two days before the scheduled date to lock in a four-hour block of time when they would show up, and they came at the very beginning of the window. The lead technician was very good about explaining the quirks of the double-sided hearth that I had, and the best way to light the fire.

They did good work and had good pricing. The only issues I had with them was scheduling.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was fine. I think they were quick and efficient. I have 3 chimneys and 3 fireplaces and it just wasn't clear in the ad how the pricing worked or if it was just per chimney or what so that was one problem. I spent another $97 for the other fireplace.

He was prompt, efficient, clean. I had a coupon for $149. On the phone the scheduler told me there would be an additional $50 charge for my wood stove, but he only charged me $40.
