About us
In Your Home was founded in 2003 with the goal of creating more beautiful, safer home environments that support people of all abilities. Our clients come from all walks of life and turn to us for our creative ideas and superior service quality. We specialize in: Universal design, Aging-in-place, Homes for multi-generational families, Accessibility enhancement, Small home repairs. Most work done by our own employees, we use license sub-contractors for electrical and plumbing work when needed. Award winning service and value. License OR CCB# 157737; WA YOUR*933KQ.
We earlier felt obliged to give this company a low grade because of failure to contact us despite several calls. We are now writing to revise and upgrade this rating to an "A" after the owner emailed us, apologized for the failure to contact us due to pressure of work, and sent us a detailed preliminary estimate of the cost of the various jobs we hope to get done. We really appreciated this professionalism on the part of In Your Home, and would certainly do business with this company in the future.
Description of Work: This is to revise and upgrade we posted earlier about this company.

Once he arrived, Randy informed me he was leaving the company but he would pass along the information to the owner, Brian, so that he could estimate the work and provide a proposal. After a week, I contacted Brian who assured me that he would get the proposal out and provided the name and contact info of another project manager that would work with me. After contacting that Project manager and getting no response, I gave up. Absolutely terrible service and a huge waste of my time.
Description of Work: I spoke with Brian at In your home about getting an estimate for some siding and fence repair I needed at my home. I arranged to meet one of the project managers at my home. When he was late arriving, I called only to find out there was a miscommunication about who from the company was supposed to come and provide the estimate. The project manager, Randy, apologized for the confusion and agreed to come right away.

The person doing the work listened carefully to what I was requesting and he then applied his skill in getting the job done and done well. He carefully made a precise cut on the board and removed nails without damaging any of the roofing. Thus he was able to remove it just as we wanted . He cleaned and inspected the surfaces that interfaced with that board making sure no other rot or damage present. He measured and cut exactly to fit a new length of trim board and installed it and caulked where it interfaced. did an excellent job of securing it with new nails and screws so it would not twist or move in the future. Very accurately done and in reasonable time too. I am very happy with the job. We were about to paint the house so I did not have him to that, but we are pleased with how it all turned out when we did paint it because that new section blended in perfectly.
Description of Work: Removed rotted out section of trim board on gable rake overhang of the rental house. Then replaced that cut out section with a new 2 x 4 cut to fit. Was an excellent fit.

John arrived on time and surveyed the work - which was a bit more than anticipated, due to dry rot and blackberry vines trying to grow up the rear wall of the old house. Once he had gone over everything with us, he gave us a revised estimate, which we agreed was good. He swept and scraped moss off the roof, then cleaned the front gutter out Wednesday. He came back on Thursday with a partner and they first cut back the bushes (including blackberries) that were in the way. Then they repaired the rafter ends on the rear of the house and installed new fascia. That took all day. On Friday John came back and installed the gutter and a new downspout. He swept up all the debris and carted it away. It was a great job by hardworking guys. John also showed us where a cedar tree at the SW corner of the house was starting to lean into the roofline. It also had fine sawdust around the base. He advised us to have the tree inspected and maybe removed to protect the house. This is the 3rd time we've used In Your Home; and they have always supplied outstanding and respectful service. We will continue using their services as needed.
Description of Work: Cleaned the roof, cleaned the front gutter, and replaced the rear gutter (which had fallen down). The rear gutter work also required some repair to the rafter ends due to dry rot.

I needed a simple rail installed for the four steps leading up to my house. I needed it done quickly and they were able to come out within a few days. The carpenter provided exactly what I wanted and worked quickly and efficiently. He was friendly and pleasant to work with. They were willing to work with me to stay within the budget I had for the project.
Description of Work: Installed a rail on my outside steps to the house
We had a number of things fixed around our home, including installing a dishwasher and new faucets to replace broken ones. Some bad grout and caulking were repaired in a shower. Some woodwork damaged by the leaking shower was repaired. A number of doors that wouldn't close properly were repaired. A second stair handrail was installed. The contractor that came was quiet, polite, friendly, efficient and a very good craftsman. There's no doubt in my mind In Your Home is our new go-to contractor.

Our garage is about 100 years old, with large wooden doors that swing open. Dry rot in the wood surrounding one door caused it to slump down, so it didn't open all the way. David removed the door, replaced the damaged wood, and rehung the door. It's hard to imagine how he could do it by himself, but he did. he arrived with all the tools and lumber he needed, based only on the phone call; and he completed the project in less than three hours.

I was very pleased with the work that was done and the responsiveness of the company as a whole, and the handyman in particular. Although the price seemed a bit steep (maybe that's just because I've never had a handyman come out before so I have nothing to compare it to), you get what you pay for! I would absolutely recommend this company and I do plan on using them again for other things on my repair list in the future!

In Your Home missed their estimate by a bit, but that's acceptable as we had a long list of tasks for the man they sent and it must have been very challenging to estimate service time. They sent us a fellow named David, and he was terrific. A true jack-of-all-trades, very professional and skilled. He's very booked an not easy to get, but we'd totally recommend that you request him if you have a variety of types of tasks you'd like performed. Update: we have since used In Your Home for additional tasks and they continue to impress. Excellent work, very professional. Highly recommended!

Thank you for the positive review. The very nature of handyman activities makes it a challenge for sure to estimate. That is why we advise clients to sign up for a block of time and then observe how efficient and skillful we are at addressing the highest of priorities. We always provide a guestimate of time to complete and then work diligently to make it happen. Also, we have a talented team of 16 employees and depending on the client scope of work are able to deploy the right skills to match the client need. David K is certainly one of our talented team members but rest assured we have other folks who know how to delight clients. Regards!

It went very well: 1. David Kelly showed up at 8:00 AM and once he surveyed the projects got right to work first powerwashing the deck and patio 2. He took a couple of breaks in the day - it was 93 degrees and humid - plus lunch but finished the work 3:30 PM after cleanup 3. Quoted the 8 hrs plus materials at $557 less $40 on the Angie List coupon for a total of $517..00
Description of Work: 1. Powerwashed and stained a 270 sq ft three-year old cedar deck 2. Powerwashed a 270 sq ft concrete patio 3. Installed earthquake bolts for a china cabinet and grandfather clock 4. Dug 4 post-holes and poured 1' of concrete in each hole for stabilizing a small arbor 5. Mounted 3 towel racks 6. Bought the QuickConcrete and we provided all other materials
I contacted In Your Home in early May for a bid on 3 small projects I had lingering. After Brian came out to give me a bid, I felt very comfortable with his knowledge of the slope of the work and especially with his understanding of what I wanted done. He made a recommendation that I had not considered, and it turned out to be very helpful. Setting up the work was very simple. One of the guys came out to look over the projects, just to make sure he had everything set for the start date. He even took some measurements so that he could build some custom pieces that would fit my house perfectly. On the start date, two guys showed up right on time, professionally dressed, and started work right away. They ran into one snag, which was actually my fault, but they took care of it quickly. Once they got into the project, they pointed out one possibility for a change order, and I agreed. While one guy had to get more stuff for the change order, the other guy took care of some other work that needed to be done. They were incredibly efficient and finished before I even expected, and cleaned up the whole worksite. When my wife got home, I looked like a hero. I will definitely hire In Your Home for future projects. They?ve earned my trust and faith.
Description of Work: In Your Home did 3 small projects around my house. They put a door on a shed, they installed a ceiling fan, and the biggest project was fixing a shelter roof.

The repairman arrived exactly on time and got straight to work. He was able to determine that the repairs would not be as extensive as first thought. The water damage was contained to the back sheetrock and the floor of the bathroom vanity and had not damaged the subflooring beneath the vanity. Luckily, no molds had taken hold of the area. He was fast and efficient. I would definitely have him take care of my future repair needs.
Description of Work: Repaired sheetrock and bathroom vanity flooring.
It went very well. The interaction to schedule the service call was good. The handyman arrived on time (as I recall) and he came up with solutions for the garage door and front door problems that were less expensive than what I assumed would need to be done to fix those problems. I also had to leave for another appointment while he was there and he was ok with coming back later in the afternoon to collect payment.
Description of Work: 1. Repaired a front door that stuck 2. Replaced screen in a patio screen door 3. Fixed a sun glare problem on the garage door opener sensors
Great! I called the office and spoke with Brad Swanson. He was very patient, while I tried to explain in non professional terms, the work I needed done. He provided me with an estimated time and cost, and all the other information that I might need to make a decision. He set up an appointment with one of his technicians, to come to my home. The technician, Joshla Ash, was prompt, in fact a few minutes early. He was very polite and a good listener as I explained what I needed done. He was neat, clean and appropriately attired. Joshla got to work immediately. He was careful with the ladder placement and the use of tools, so that there was no damage to the siding, drains or the roof. The work was finished quickly, without wasted motion or time. The work was done neatly, and better than I would have done. He cleaned up after himself, even retrieving a small screw that had dropped on a lower roof. He enjoyed working for the company, and said his work was interesting and a good opportunity to do a lot of different things. He also said that the other employees were talented and a pleasure with whom to work, and that his boss was a fine person. The final bill was less than the estimate. A pleasant surprise. I chose to pay the work order total today. Called In Your Home accounting department, about two hours after Joshla left, and spoke with Sue. She was friendly, efficient and great to talk with. Immediately recognized my name and knew what I owed. The payment process could not have taken more than three minutes. I have no doubt that the three people in the company, with whom I spoke, exemplify everybody in the company. In Your Home is qualified to do a lot of different things, from extensive remodels to handyman projects. I assure you I will call them first, the next time I need something done. And I will recommend them to several neighbors who need someone they can trust to do a job. Tom Rees

There was a little mixup in the morning about who was supposed to be there, but I called and they had someone there immediately. I was impressed with the quality and speed of service.
Description of Work: A number of small repairs on the outside of my house. I had some dry rot in rhe decorative molding, and the trim around the porch. I had a window that needed a piece of trim added that was neglected by previous window repair people, and my picket fence gate needed some repair and picket replacement, Joe was very thorough, and painted all the work. He was amazingly quick and I was very pleased with the outcome. I was very happy to find someone willing to work on a small repair job. I would hire them again in a flash.

We ran into several unexpected problems, all of which were handled very professionally and promptly. Brian (the owner) and Brian (our lead person) both contributed to redesigning the space into a single room from two rooms, and creating a European shower to make it accessible in case that should be needed as we age. Brian also redesigned the closet so although it is technically smaller, it feels larger. The combination of artistry and professionalism and friendliness were wonderful for us. We are planning on using In Your Home again for a couple of other projects. Thank you!

We noticed a leak near the box for our in-ground sprinkler system. Called Preferred Landscaping and left a message at the main number. About 5 hours later I called again since I hadn't heard anything and was put through directly to the technician. He happened to be a few blocks from our home and turned around to go to our house for a quick assessment of the problem. He did not charge us for this quick visit. Unfortunately, when my husband made the recommended fix, the water pressure broke another part of the system (not the technicians fault). He called Preferred Landscaping the next morning to see if someone could fix the new issue but never received a call back. He ended up going with another company and was very happy with their services.

Although it took a few emails back and forth to clarify what probably needed to be done, the process and estimated cost was very clearly spelled out. Actual job cost about $75 less than estimate, and involved a "lighter touch". 4" hole drilled in back wall under sink, and thoroughly cleaned out, including one odorous "passed away" mouse. Another drilled behind dishwasher, and a third behind refrigerator. All areas cleaned, and re-sealed. David took good care of my greatest concern - bamboo floors which would mar very easily. Damp wiped up floors as he left. Very satisfied.

We are having difficulty identifying this member in our call records and their request for service. Please know that we always consider conducting a site visit when speaking with clients. Given site visits do cost a significant amount in time and effort we also try to ensure the visit is commensurate with the scope of work to be performed. Many times smaller handyman projects do not warrant a pre-visit -- ie a two hour service call to adjust a door frame problem. The cost of the visit (no charge to client) would outweigh the economic benefit of the project. Our experience is that most clients understand this dynamic and are happy to partner with us. Often time this means for the small handyman project that they send us a few photos and a dimension or two such that we can "get our heads into their project" remotely and venture an educated plan of attack including budget expectations. Our business makes hundreds of site visits each year and we do partner with clients regularly to gather information in order to properly scope a project and establish an estimate.

Brian came out originally and was very nice and very professional. He gave me clear and concise quotes on everything we wanted done. We are getting our house ready to put on the market so we had quite a list of med and small projects. He answered my many questions promptly and courteously. Patrick was the one who performed the installation and he was very punctual, very very nice and did a good job. There were a couple of things that needed to be tweaked once everything dried but he came out the next day and cheerfully and skillfully fixed them. We are very happy with the result but I wasn't terribly happy with the overall cost of the job. Let me explain. We were given a quote of 692.00 for the entire job but also told that if we didn't have to have underlayment put in, the cost savings would be "substantial". We'd had a loose quote on another bathroom that we knew did not require underlayment and were told it would be 300.00 to 400.00. I guess I naturally assumed that the discount would be at least 100-200 dollars (because of not needing to do the underlayment) but the discount was only 50.00. They also told me I went over the allotment for the price of Laminate BUT when I picked it out Contract Furniture Mart told me it was under the amount Brian had allotted. I then decided to have someone else come out and give me some estimates and they ended up being quite a bit less than "in your home" so I decided to go with them. Overall I'm happy with how the floor turned out but I guess I feel a little "iffy" about the price and discounts etc.

Our offer to this member was on a fixed bid basis and we have honored our agreement. The client was also offered to have work performed on a time and materials basis but declined. Once product allowance calculation was corrected the client was provided a credit for materials. We also know that if you keep shopping for price you can always find someone less expensive. So it really comes down to understanding the quality of products used, the skill of the staff doing the work and the warranty of those who are standing behind the work. Our commitment is to provide a quality result, with appropriately skilled staff, and to warrant our work. We wish the client best of luck.
