Amazing! I highly recommend Pat - I promise he won't disappoint. Easy going, hard working and honest. He had full access to my house without me even being there.

My renters were very complementary in that he took care of all the cabinets. Patrick was very professional, replaced the hinges on all the kitchen cabinets and cleaned up after the job was completed. My renters said there were some other items that Patrick helped them with, he gave them a full days work. We have 4 nice rental homes, and will certainly use your Handyman services again. Special thank you to Patrick!
Description of Work: Buying a Handyman for a day was the perfect solution for my renters. There was some cabinet hinges that needed to be replaced and some other small items.

Contacted this provider through Angie's List at the end of March and provided a list of things we would like to get done with our kitchen and possibly also living room. We were not expecting to get everything on the list done, just what could fit within our budget. Brian, the provider, asked me to email him some pictures and dimensions of the work area so he could come up with a preliminary budget. I emailed those items to him on March 29 and finally talked to him on April 3rd. After talking about the list of items I originally sent, he asks " You do understand how this works, right?". I asked for clarification. It was an odd question. Then he asked me if I had worked with a contractor before and what kind of experience I had. I did work with a contractor before and tried to answer his odd question as best as I could. He then asked me if I thought I had better ideas than the contractor. Excuse me? What? I was neither bossy nor demanding when I spoke with him so I don't know what prompted him to ask me such an inappropriate and rude question. I did tell him that I only expected respect from a provider and acknowledgement that I am not living in a fancy bungalow in inner Portland and just want to find creative ways to work with the house that I could afford. So he wraps up the conversation by asking me what my budget is - BEFORE giving me his preliminary estimate. Of course, after answering his question, he lets me know that his estimate is already 2K over my budget. Again, I reiterated that we were not expecting to have everything on the list done. We were trying to prioritize by item cost. He said he would get me a final estimate by the beginning of next week. Well, it is the end of that week and I still have not heard back from him.
Description of Work: Provider did no work and was condescending over the phone during the estimate process.

Response from IN YOUR HOME
I sincerely regret the member’s poor experience when talking with me. The member was very polite, patient and accommodating which was appreciated. I will certainly reflect on this feedback and ensure that I am clearer when discussing with prospective clients. Our goal is to efficiently assess the client’s desired results and to evaluate if we are the right organization to provide the service. Through our telephone discussions we often can gather information which allows us to better understand and to advise the client. Many clients do not understand the amount of time and effort required to evaluate and then budget a long list of tasks / features. We attempt to quickly make essential determinations so we can establish a reasonable budget range for the proposed scope and to then see if there is sufficient alignment with the potential client. We also discuss our process for serving clients and try to clarify how we work with clients to achieve alignment of expectations. This way the client can begin to determine with whom they want to work. Once the client is ready to make a commitment to work together it is then that the detailed and time consuming work of refining the budget and feature set can begin. I’m sorry that we didn’t get the client our preliminary estimates on the timeline mentioned. We wish the member well and success on their project. Regards, Brian

The handyman from In Your Home helped me complete tasks around the house that I have been trying to do for a long time. Everything went very well. He got through the work at a reasonable amount of time. As a homeowner, I would say the quality of work was excellent. I would definitely work with In Your Home again.

Given that estimate by another company of $6,000 to design and build the screen, IYH was not only reasonable but creative in design. Part of the screen has a gate that opens for maintenance, and the screen can be completely removesd by removing some screws in case I replace the AC. The quality of this company is consistently excellent and it stands by its work. They replaces some caulking they had done less than a year ago that had cracked - at no cost. I highly recommend their work and reasonable prices.

The owner Brian B. came out to assess the project within a week of our calling the IYH office. He was very professional and knowledgeable about accessibility features, and provided some good suggestions on design and products that were implemented in the finalized plan. He provided us with a quote by the following week. After three previous attempts with other contractors on this project, it was a relief to see a nice detailed proposal with a reasonable breakdown of the budget (Thanks, Brian!). Cost-wise, we were able to stay pretty close to the original budget, even with a few upgrades in fixtures. With this project, we weren’t really expecting any big cost savings. Still, IYH had the better edge among all the bids we had received. Our project manager was Jason, who was very organized and did a great job making sure all the materials were ordered and brought out to the house before they were needed. We had to place a custom order for the wood drawers in the vanity and for the cabinets, so actual work on the bathroom didn’t start for several weeks. Jason was very responsive whenever we had questions and easy to get a hold of. Brian H. and Ryan did most of the work on the bathroom and they stayed on the project from beginning to end, with help for plumbing and electrical when needed. It was really nice to have this consistency for an extended project in our home. The job was scheduled to take 2 and a half weeks and ended up taking 3 weeks and a day, which was pretty much what we expected given the scope of the project. Both Ryan and Brian H. were good-natured and very pleasant to work with. They were professional and very considerate of our home as they did their best to keep the dust and debris contained to the work area. Together with Jason, they made sure the counter height and placement for all the grab bars and shower seat were appropriate. All together, the job was well done and the tile work turned out beautifully. There were a couple of details at the end that needed attention and they kept working until everything was done to our satisfaction. There was also a problem with the fold-up shower seat that came loose on one side, possibly due to a split in the wood behind the wall support. Brian H. came back the following day after working another job and stayed late to put in some extra long screws and heavy-duty anchors, and the problem seems to be fixed. We are pretty happy with everything. Hopefully IYH will be able to bid on our next accessibility project.
Description of Work: We needed to do a major remodel of our master bathroom to make it accessible for my husband, who now requires the use of a wheelchair. We replaced a seldom used, oversized soaking tub with a barrier-free tile shower and replaced the sinks and counter with a roll-under vanity. The existing toilet and shower were in a separate enclosed space so we had the old shower removed to provide maneuvering room and had an ADA toilet and some storage space installed. The floor had heat and ceramic tile installed throughout. Also, we had four doorways widened, together with the installation of two doors and a pocket door. All new light fixtures, fans and paint.

We had a less than 3 week closing period to make all the repairs requested by the buyers of our home. In Your Home was the only company who could work within the time frame, and also do everything we needed (some handymen wouldn't go on the roof or in the crawlspace). Brad and Sue in the office were very responsive, and Pat, the handyman, was friendly, professional, and fast. He replaced an Insta Hot water dispenser, cleared out some vines growing out of a gutter high on the roof, replaced 7 smoke detectors, fixed a leaky shower drain, and secured earthquake tie-downs in the crawl space, which was a bit of a complicated situation. The whole team was a pleasure to work with during a stressful time for me. I will definitely use them again!

After 11 days of waiting, I emailed Brad Swanson to ask about status. The next day Brad left a voice mail stating that he was just working on the quotes and had a couple of questions. I replied to his voice mail answering his questions. I reminded him that I had a short turn-around requirement for the work and would he please call me back. Now, three days later, I still have no response from Brad. If my experience is an indicator of In Your Home customer service then I have no idea how they have managed to stay in business.

One corner of the 90 year-old tub in my 110 year-old house was sagging at least 1 inch lower than the rest of it. I suspected it was a localized problem, but feared it might be something much worse. I called several contractors, including Brian at IYH and he was one of the few to consider the possibility that it wouldn't require an entire bathroom redo. He listened to all my questions and asked thoughtful questions of his own and arranged for me to connect with Brad in handyman services. This is the only area in which I have any complaints--it took three weeks to get ahold of Brad and arrange the appointment. He called me. I returned his call with an email. I tried again at the end of the week (it is difficult for me to make calls during the work day). Only after my third attempt--when I was able to make a call during the workday--did I reach him. I was frustrated that he did not reply to my emails. In any case, they sent out a fella to do the work, and I was very pleased that he was able to jack up and repair the tub without making it into a bigger problem. It even came in under estimate. By paying attention to the details, and being careful--I never felt like he was rushing through it--he saved me thousands of dollars. I have waited a few weeks before writing this, and no problems have arisen from the work.

The salesperson, Brad, was cordial. He asked that I email him pictures of the areas of concern, which I did. The work was scheduled shortly after my contact with the firm. The worker, Brian, was knowledgeable, professional, and efficient. He called to say he was running late on the first day, due to his child's illness. The work took a day and a half to complete. The results of each task were very satisfactory. I compared the costs of materials the firm charged against what I found at a local hardware store - theirs was somewhat higher ($21), including the 25% markup by IYH. I thought the $20 stock materials charge was a little high. Brian told me he would pick up one item on his way back from his lunch hour, and I was surprised that IYH charged $59, which was $10 less than their regular $69/hour fee.
Description of Work: Various handyman tasks. Repair/replace & regrout small area of clay tile at sun porch entry. Small repair to sun porch entry door frame. Install weatherstripping at sun porch entry door. Minor patch & caulk aluminum siding areas. Sand & paint exterior power line standoff. Small patch to exterior basement corner. We ran into several unexpected problems, all of which were handled very professionally and promptly. Brian (the owner) and Brian (our lead person) both contributed to redesigning the space into a single room from two rooms, and creating a European shower to make it accessible in case that should be needed as we age. Brian also redesigned the closet so although it is technically smaller, it feels larger. The combination of artistry and professionalism and friendliness were wonderful for us. We are planning on using In Your Home again for a couple of other projects. Thank you!

The workers were professional, clean and courteous. And the final product is beautiful. However, it took over a month to obtain an official quote and then due to several scheduling problems on behalf of In Your Home, the work took much longer than contractually agreed. We were told it would be 6-7 business days from start date, but in actuality, it spanned 4 weeks from the target start date to completion. Additionally, it would be most helpful if there was a concise check list of action items for home owner to do regarding elements to buy vs. simply select and with whom to make arrangements / selections.

Response from IN YOUR HOME
We appreciate the client’s feedback and agree coordination with and confirmation of details is extra important especially when clients are attempting to purchase product for the remodel. Often this adds more management time and certainly requires all parties to stay in close contact. We continue to improve our client recommendations and sourcing plans to make it as easy as possible to make selections. Our records indicate the project initial start date was delayed but once started that we pushed right along to completion and with added scope and sequencing adjustments (given all the home’s bathrooms couldn’t be taken out of commission simultaneously) the timeline extended. We continue to work diligently to meet timelines and minimize the number of days we are disrupting the client’s home schedule. And we agree a beautiful result was achieved. Regards Brian

From the In Your Home Service we had the employee, David Kelley . He arrived a bit late , but he had called to let us know that he was caught in bad traffic that day. I really appreciated the call. Understandable in some of our Portland- metro traffic jams. He arrived and adjusted out doors efficiently and then proceeded to put together the carport. He worked steadily and independently , although the manufacturer had suggested that it would take two people. He had all the necessary tools in his truck. He stayed late to finish the job, and cleaned up the area afterwards. I would definitely use this service again, especially if David was involved.
Description of Work: 1- Adjusted a number of doors that were not not swinging well at our new ( old ) house. 2- Put together a complex carport kit that we had purchased.
