 + -1 moreI called to ask about possible service (eliminating what I thought might be termites), and he talked me out of it ??told me they couldn't be termites (given wing length vs body size), identified the insect as a non-harmful type of ant, and advised me that, though he was willing to come spray them, I could kill them much more cheaply with a spray bottle filled with a 50/50 solution of water and rubbing alcohol and a few tablespoons of dish soap. Or I could just let them sit there, because ? as swarming insects ??they're looking for a new home and, so long as they can't get out of my house, they're just going to die. I will certainly call again when I think I have a pest issue.
Description of Work: He provided a free consultation over the phone that convinced me I don't need his service as an exterminator for this issue.

 + -1 moreI called and spoke with the owner of the company about some mice I had seen evidence of in a utility room our house. The owner asked me several questions and explained a lot about the how and why the mice might be nesting in this part of our home. In the end, I was pleasantly surprised when he gave me an idea for something I might choose to try on my own (actually, very simple and easy to do). He didn't deter me from having them come out, but he was honest when he said it would probably save me a couple hundred dollars if I wanted to try this 'home remedy' first. I appreciated this information and felt compelled to share this experience. If I ever need the services in this category again, I will definitely be calling Affordable Pest Control!

Affordable Pest Control came to our house, assessed the degree of the problem and sprayed the interior of the entire first floor as necessary.  + -1 moreJOE WAS PROMPT AND THOROUGH IN HIS SERVICE. HE GUARANTEED HIS WORK FOR 90 DAYS. HE DID CAUTION ME HOWEVER,AS THE TENANTS DID NOT EMPTY THE KITCHEN CUPBOARDS AS REQUESTED IN ORDER FOR HIM TO TREAT THEM ON THE INITIAL VISIT. HE REPORTED TO ME THAT HE FOUND FOOD CRUMBS (HAVING A TODDLER IN THE HOME THIS IS UNDERSTANDABLE) UNDER THE STOVE, DIRTY DISHES IN SINK HE ADVISED THE TENANTS AND MYSELF THIS COULD ONLY ENCOURAGE THE ANTS TO RETURN AND THE TENANTS NEED TO BE MORE AWARE OF THE NEED TO KEEP THE HOME CLEAN. JOE DID A FULL INSIDE TREATMENT ON THE MAIN FLOOR AND OUTSIDE PERIMETER TREATMENT. (JOE STATED THAT THE TENANT REFUSED TO HAVE THE UPSTAIRS TREATED AS NO ANTS HAD BEEN SEEN THERE, ONLY ON THE MAIN FLOOR OF THE HOUSE IN ALL OF THE TIME THEY HAD LIVED THERE.) JOE ASSURED THE TENANT HE COULD CONTACT HIM DIRECTLY PRIOR TO THE END OF THE 90 DAYS IF ANTS WERE SEEN TO BE COMING BACK.
Description of Work: JOE THE OWNER WAS EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL.WHEN I GAVE HIM MY BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE WITH ONE OF HIS COMPETITORS (WHICH I'D BEEN WITH FOR OVER 10 YEARS) HE EXPLAINED TO ME WHAT CHEMICALS HE USES AND WHY. HE QUOTED ME $425.00. WHEN I TOLD HIM I FOUND HIM ON ANGIES LIST HE GAVE ME A $25.00 DISCOUNT. HE TOOK THE TIME TO EXPLAIN IN DETAIL WHY HE REFUSED TO USE CHEMICALS USED BY MY CURRENT PEST CONTROL SERVICE, WHO, AFTER CHARGING ME $511.00, FAILED, EVEN AFTER COMING BACK 8 TIMES IN 75 DAYS TO EXTERMINATE THE ANTS IN ONE OF MY RENTAL PROPERTIES. THE 'OTHER' PEST CONTROL COMPANY HAD SUGGESTED THAT THE ONLY WAY TO REALLY GET RID OF THE ANTS WAS TO DO A 'GUARANTEED TENT KILL AND THEY QUOTED ME $4500.00! MY TENANTS WERE VERY PLEASED WITH JOE'S SERVICE AND PROFESSIONALISM AS HE ALSO MADE SURE THEY TOO WERE INFORMED AS TO WHAT CHEMICALS HE WAS USING AND ASSURED THEM IT WAS SAFE FOR THEM AND THEIR 2 YR OLD. JOE TREATED THE HOME INSIDE AND OUT. I HAVE 2 OTHER PROPERTIES AND HAVE MADE THE DECISION TO CANCEL THE OTHER PEST CONTROL COMPANY AND MOVE ALL OF MY BUSINESS TO AFFORDABLE PEST CONTROL.

He was courteous and respectful of my house. He took off his shoes and put on booties before walking around my house. I was very happy with his service. He was here right on time. I would use them in the future, but I hope I don't have to.

 + -1 moreI called due to being unhappy with another exterminator. Found out this company would have been about $125 cheaper and probably would have gotten rid of my carpenter ants right away. He was very patient in explaining to me what needed to be done by my other exterminator. If I am still not satisfied with this other exterminator actually following through with their guarantee, I will definitely give this company a call.

 + -1 moreWith Angie's List there was a 25 dollar deduct. The price was a little on the high side, but they all were. He checked out thoroughly because I found a dead mouse and I am actually petrified of mice. He couldn't find anything, so I don't know where it came from. I thought he was very thorough and he had a 30-day guarantee on it. I liked the company very much because he pulled up things where I could do it and he didn't have to come out. In other words, he tried to save me money and I really appreciated that. I would very definitely use the company again. Pricewise, all the companies were that much, it was not like one stood out. But then I wouldn't want to do it.
Description of Work: Affordable Pest Control came out a couple of weeks ago and checked the house for mice. He checked all the possible places and sealed them with steel wool and checked all the others with my husband.

 + -1 moreI originally called a pest control company that quoted about $3,000 to get rid of the rats and do "clean up" under the house. DON'T fall for the line that you need $3,000 worth of clean up under your house for the rats which is common from some pest control places. My husband crawled under the house and decided to hire a couple guys to do some clean up and disinfectant for about 20% of the cost the pest control quoted. The rats WILL come back if you compost, feed birds and live by a big field. I don't think I've paid Joe more than $300 over the course of a year. Each time they come back I call and he makes them go away. You can have monthly service too but Joe will discourage over-servicing. This guy is honest!
Description of Work: Joe and his son have done pest control for over a year. I live by a big field so there is no way that I won't get an occasional rat infestation around my compost or bird feeders:( They have had to devise BIG DOG PROOF rat bait boxes because my dogs have carried them into the house. They drilled the locking boxes into cement blocks. They come back weekly until the rats are gone. When there was no activity for a month they collected the bait boxes and didn't charge me for the last month. This is how Joe works, he has never gouged me and I always feel like his charges are more than fair for his committed reliable service. I would recommend Joe to anyone.

 + -1 moreJoe gave me a lot of information over the phone, came the next day with his son and thoroughly investigated the problem. He only charged $175 for 30 days service, a fantastic value. He referred me to a handyman who was able to block rat access to our basement, and came to our house countless times to reset traps and dispose of dead rats. He's honest, responsive, and professional. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again or to refer to friends.
Description of Work: Joe determined where rats were entering our basement, referred us to a handyman to block rat access, and set several traps inside and outside. And, he checked them frequently, taking away dead rats and resetting traps. Service was for 30 days.

Last year when they came they put something inside the electrical outlets, which is where they were coming in. Very few ants in kitchen now. Always friendly and polite.

When I first called to report my problem, he arranged to come by within a couple days - early in the morning so it wouldn't disrupt my work schedule.  + -1 moreThey had asked for a sample of the ants we'd been seeing in my son's room so when they arrived, I had some carcasses ready for him to look at. He confirmed that they were indeed carpenter ants and was ready to spray for them using a safe product often used in schools. Aside from a few dead bodies, we haven't seen any more live ants. We may need to do another application when the ants get more active in the spring (and there are any survivors) and if that time comes, we'll definitely call Affordable Pest Control, LLC back out to do the job.
Description of Work: APC came out and sprayed our 3rd floor (specifically a bedroom, bathroom, and the hallway) for carpenter ants.

Description of Work: We had a critter under the house, which Joe explained was probably a raccoon. As he does not handle raccoons, he referred us to another company that will come out and give us a discount because of his referral.  + -1 moreThey were great. I called them originally because they were bonded, licensed and insured. I got confused and I thought that the pest control guy was coming out to give me an estimate. However, we had agreed that he would come out to do the job. I forgot that they had already shown up on that morning to do the job. I wasn't ready, as I had to pick things up from the floor and keep the house ready for them to exterminate inside the house. They waited outside the house while I ran around and got things ready. I am sure that it was frustrating for him and probably put him behind schedule, but he was really great as well as polite. He came and did the job once I got everything ready. I liked them very much. The price that was initially charged was $200, but came up to $175 after the discount and that was for all 3 levels of the house. I hopefully don't have to use them again, but if need be, then I will surely use their services in the future too.

 + -1 moreGreat experience. Joe was very knowledgeable, and I felt like I could make a good decision about next steps because of the information he willingly shared with me. I also like the fact that he doesn't require a service contract, and is very willing to help homeowners "do it themselves" if they want to. I plan to get Joe's help in the future, will ask Joe to help with initial treatment, then I'll do a lot myself, and plan to tap Joe if I have questions along the way. These are the kind of local businesses that are a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: I called Joe because of some concerns I had about rodents in the house. Joe gave me a good education on the phone, and lots of information on what to be concerned about, and what not to be concerned about. He then came out to the house to check for evidence of rodent activity, checked for rodent damage, checked for places that rodents might be coming in, and looked at whether the current treatment program was effective.

Also much information about carpenter ants. Yesterday I found tiny ants (not carpenter) in my bathroom and called Joe. He told me over the phone (no charge) what to do. It worked.
Description of Work: He Identified termites in one area of atrium wall. Drilled small holes and injected insecticide. Sprayed insecticide around baseboards. Inspected for termites in other areas. Advised us how to watch for any firther infestations.

They had previously treated our crawl space for mice problems. What separates Affordable Pest Control from many other companies, is their willingness to teach what they know! I have learned something from these men each time we've interacted. Joe is known for his practical advice. He made 2 excellent referrals to other companies who provide services that he does not (e.g., issues related to squirrels and moles). Affordable Pest Control is one of those companies that thrives by word-of-mouth recommendations ... this means lots of pleased customers!

Description of Work: APC provided treatment for Western subterranean termites at my house. I spotted a small mud/dirt tube with winged ants around it on the side of the cement foundation outside my house. I called APC and spoke with Joe who provided lots of good information over the phone. He explained the difference between flying ants and termites, and the mud tube was indicative of the termites. He explained what he uses to treat termites. Joe stopped by my house and confirmed that the little dirt tube attached to the cement near the soil line was the work of Western subterranean termites. He treated the area around the foundation where the termite tube was found (a five lineal foot area) with Masterline, a synthetic pyretherin, as a liquid solution. Unfortunately because I have a finished basement with enclosed walls, he couldn’t see anything inside the house.

 + -1 moreI called Joe to get information on cost to treat our home for an infestation of spiders in our yard. He said he would be right out to take a look at our yard. He came over within 30 minutes! Joe spent close to an hour telling me a solution to make and use to treat the spiders. He provided so much useful information on the best ways to eliminate any insect infestation. He also shared methods of eliminating ants and yellow jackets! I was stunned by his willingness to provide solutions, spend so much time with us. He left some insect traps with us. This service was above and beyond the call of duty!
Description of Work: Estimate the cost to eliminate spiders in our yard. He came out in a half hour and provided a very complete assessment of our home!
