I am sorry I did not get an estimate for all costs associated with this job before having Kennedy Plumbing do the work. This company has done work for me in the past and my experience was excellent. George, the plumber they sent in the past worked with competence and efficiency, the plumber they sent this time provided a very different experience. The plumber they sent this time was uncommunicative and foreboding. Although I do not question his 44 years of experience, I believe he may pick and choose based on his preferences and planned billable hours. It is my opinion that this plumber should be paid based on agreed (in advance) fee for service. I was not comfortable having him on billable hours. I was also charged a $75 fee for Joel to do an electronic permit request - he didn't tell me there was a charge. I would have secured the permit had I known. I will not use them for the final install of the sink, so it turned out the permit was made final and closed. I now have an additional expense for a second permit. The plumber said that he had 44 years of experience. I had another plumbing issue (which was part of work order) with a Toto diverter valve and he shrugged it off, stating that he didn't want to be responsible for damage attempting to fix it. I asked what I could do about it and he just blew me off, instead of helping me (at least assess my options) he told me it takes 30 minutes for the cement to dry and twice he went and sat in his truck (another billable hour) waiting for the cement to dry.. I called Joel about the plumber going back to 'pick up supplies', and Joel did instruct him to discount that hour. I am not sure what the markup was for the materials, I am feeling as though Kennedy Plumbing has some minimum amount they want to make on jobs, and it may be $1,000. I know that Kennedy Plumbing charges one of the highest hourly rates in this area. I am confident the work that was completed is quality. But the experience was less than positive. When I emailed the details of my experience to Joel, he reminded me that he originally said the job would take between 4 to 6 hours and referred me to other local plumbing companies. From my observations and experience I believe this was a 4 hour job @ $126 per hour = $504 plus parts = $150 and Joel should have told me that there was a $75 fee for processing the electronic permit. The permit fee was = $75. This job should have been a $730 bill instead of $964. While the money is an important issue, it was secondary to my disappointment regarding the value I felt received in the process. With partial day of service they lost several years of the high regard.

Thanks for posting to Angie's List. We always appreciate the feedback that we receive. I’m glad we were able to get out to you and get the rough-in plumbing for your new kitchen installed. As I explained to you when you called in, Kennedy Plumbing does charge time and material for projects like this and I let you know that I anticipated that doing the work you requested would take at a minimum of between 4 and 6 hours. I’m glad that things were able to be done and we billed you for only 5 hours of the plumber’s time plus the material used. I also let you know that if you wanted to get the required plumbing yourself, you would save some money, but you elected to have me get it for you. I’m also glad that the plumbing inspection whet well and was approved by the inspector. I was disappointed to that my plumber wasn’t as friendly as you would have liked. This is something that we take to heart and will work hard on improving. Kennedy Plumbing prides itself on providing great service for a fair price. We feel that our large amount of referral and repeat business is a reflection of our honesty and fairness. Thank you for being a part of the Angie's List community and sharing your feedback. This helps to keep companies honest and creates a great forum for all of our perspectives to be shared. Respectfully, Joel Dirickson Service Manager

Plumber scheduled more quickly than I anticipated, came on time and did the work professionally. One part of the job was replacing a toilet, and the new one had a small leak where the tank is attached. The company sent the plumber back promptly and he retightened nuts that solved the problem. No fuss, no hassle about coming back. No extra charge for Saturday service, by the way.

Joel came out and searched all over to locate the source of the leak. He was very persistent and did his best to minimize the damage to the house in trying to find it. In the end he located it in a supply line from our upstairs laundry room. He fixed the leak very professionally and assured me we would no longer have any problems from the leak. He got me hooked up with a water damage expert right away to help insure we wouldn't have a mold problem because of the moisture inside the walls.
Description of Work: We had a leak somewhere in the house which we could see from our family room ceiling.

We had our main water line break and had to shut off water to our house. West Slope Water district came out and recommended a plumber come out and tap our garden hose to the main line so we could have water. He said it was a simple job. When my wife and I called Kennedy plumbing they said the rate would be $180 per hour Overtime. The plumber was at our house for a total of 1 hour to hook up my hose to the water at the street. The communication was terrible , he did not even explain any details I had to approach him at is van twice and still was very quite when I asked questions. Basically the job required digging out 3/4 bucket of dirt and unscrewing the main line feed and taping in our garden hose and his adapter. The final bill was $310.00 for 1 hour of work. He also overcharged me $70 for a few parts that would cost $10 at home depot. He informed me he had 40 years of experience but again very slow and informative. He said he wasn't going to charge me drive time but then added it to the bill. I thought we were in good hands when I saw the Angie sign on the back of his van. We were wrong. Kennedy will rip you OFF and there is no felling of trust with this company. I have another contractor at my house who said he was not surprised and has heard terrible service comments about Kennedy plumbing. I

Thanks for posting to Angie's List. We always appreciate all the feedback that we receive. It is gratifying to hear that we were able respond immediately to your emergency and get the water turned back on to your home, even though this was after business hours. And yes, our plumber are paid for all of their time and this ultimately is paid for by our customer’s, we do not hide this fact. This does include the time it takes them to drive to you house. I see that you were concerned that we charge more for the material we provided that you think Home Depot would charge for the same material. Since we are not as large as Home Depot, we cannot purchase with the same volume discounts that they can. And, Home Depot does charge a delivery fee. Kennedy Plumbing prides itself on providing great service for a fair price. We feel that our large amount of referral and repeat business is a reflection of our honesty and fairness. The job got done, but it took a longer than I expected and stretched the time to 2 hours which made the cost more than I would have expected. Didn't give me any idea of how long it might take or what the plan was going to be before he started working. I barely even OK'd the work before the plumber was already going.

Brian arrived at our house early (he called first) and was very professional. Initially we thought that I had fixed it with some of the things that I tried. When I asked him if he could fix a leak in the toilet and the kitchen sink he was more than happy to accommodate me even though I did ask for them to be fixed when I called in. Brian worked on the toilet and then we found that the sewer line was still plugged. He brought out his augur and tried to clean the line. He went out 50 feet and never touched the clog. He recommended another plumber for me to call that had the correct equipment including a camera. He did not charge me for this work. He then fixed the leak in the sink. Brian was a very pleasant guy and gave me confidence that he knew what he was doing.
Description of Work: Attempted to clean a clogged sewer line. The augur that they brought was too short. I was informed that this could happen. They rebuilt a toilet and fixed a leak in the sink.

The guy was really good and he was quick. They are an old company and with a whole lot of workers. They stand behind their work. They don't charge a lot more. His charge was in line with the estimate. He knew how long it would take. The work turned out to be great. He had to do a bunch of welding in the wood. He didn't burn it. In the dead of winter my water heater goes out and I am tasked with getting a new system. Being cost conscious I explored the many options of both buying one myself and having a plumbing company install one for me. Going rate was around $1,000 for a 50 gallon 7 year warranty installed. I decided to buy my own unit at home depot which provided a longer warranty and was an energy efficient model that qualified for a rebate from the energy trust board. Thus, because i had not previously installed a gas water heater i wanted some help from a plumbing company. I called several companies and ended up hiring Kennedy Plumbing primarily because of the positive impression Joel gave me over the phone and the hourly rate was comparable to others. He knows plumbing and communicates well. Up to this point all was well until the service tech came out. To start he called me an hour before the appointment and told me that he could come early. I was at work at the time and thus came home to grant access to my house. Again, being cost conscious I took time away from work to help him install and move the new tank into place because i wanted to see how to do it and reduce the amount of time it took him to complete the service. My impression is that he DID NOT work with any urgency rather in a slow methodical manner. Additionally he went out to his van numerous occasions to get more parts and every time he did this he took a long time, much longer than simply grabbing the tool he needed. It seemed like hew was almost milking the clock and was unorganized further elongating the duration in which it took to the service call. My expectation is if i will be paying a professional hourly rate that I would get a professional hourly service with someone that can do the work efficiently and confidently and not waste my time and charge me for it. Finally after 3 hours of time (with me helping him) he finishes the job and proceeds to drawing up the invoice. He finished about 8 mins before the hour but rounded up so he could charge me for the extra 15 minutes and on top of that he said that he started the billable time 15 mins before he got to my house for driving. Not only was he slow, milking time, unorganized but completely unjust in your billing mechanism. I contested this extra 15 minutes but he insisted this was company policy and I could follow up with Joel with questions. I feel this is dishonest and unfair and I would warn anyone that is looking to hire this company to perform service for you. If you value contractors that are a good steward of how they charge you by the hour and are fair in there dealing look elsewhere and do not hire Kennedy.

Thank you for your post on Angie's List. We always appreciate the feedback that we receive. I’m glad we were able to get out to you house to install your water heater on the same day that you called and promptly took care of your problem. While we do not charge a mileage fee, our plumbers are paid for all of their time, this includes the time that it takes to drive to our customer’s home and to take care of the paperwork. We find this to be the most fair and transparent way to charge for their time, instead of tacking on hidden fees. Our plumbers are highly trained professionals and do not rush through jobs, this is so we can continually do do high quality work. We take great pride in providing great service for a fair price. Although the service man (Clay) was unable to find the source of water leak in my living room, I really admired by his workmanship and would love to hire him for some other problem in the future. Here is the story. My living room had water leak coming from one of bathroom upstairs. He inspected two of my bathroom over an hour, he couldn't find the source of water leak. He suggested that he need to come back and cut the wall to find out. I told him that I'd rather want to use a scope to prob before open the wall. He told me that his company do not have a scope to inspect inside of the wall. Finally, he determined that I was not quite happy with his service and he didn't charge me a cent for his hour. I am very much admired by his workmanship and being such an honest person. I offered him some tip but he even refused to take. I'd highly recommend this company for any plumbing job because customers can call this company with peace of mind that their money won't be waisted.

I called in the morning around 9 and was able to be scheduled right away due to a cancellation. Clay arrived around 11. The work went very well. He routed the drain pipe to the outside for us, so if there is a problem the water will go outside instead of all over the garage. He cleaned up any trace of the work. I was also able to use the $20 Angies list coupon. I gave the company an A for price but I don't have anything to compare it to other than reviews of this and other companies. From what I saw in the reviews, this price is in the ballpark of water heater repairs with some higher and some lower. I didn't get price quotes because we wanted it done. Clay provided a detailed bill.

The reason for this mixed review is because we had two very different experiences with this company. The first plumber that came out was not good at all and we got charged a lot of money for someone to come out twice to fix a leaky faucet and it still leaked. BUT after we complained, we have had excellent service. Brian called immediately and discussed the problem and when we received the warranty parts he came out to the house the same day and fixed it promptly with no extra charges. We were very impressed with the way the situation was handled and would now recommend this company without hesitation. If we had Brian come out the first time we probably would have rated the service with all excellent. Thank you for responding.

Clay found out I did not know how to turn off the water to my house, so he took the time to show me how to turn off the water both in the pump house and in the house in case I should ever need to know again. When Clay took out the broken faucet he showed me how it works and why it only leaked when actually in use. He also explained to me that the water travels through the walls and that the two rooms next to the garage should be checked for water damage as well. I definitely will call Kennedy Plumbing again for my plumbing needs. Clay is fast, professional and helpful

I have used them several times. I was fortunate I had the same person each time. I requested him because I liked him from the first time. His name was George. He was very nice and efficient. He was willing to explain to me what needs to be done and offered suggestions or economical solutions to the problem. He did not try to sell me big expensive stuff and I really appreciated that because I did not know anything about plumbing. I think they are great. I had other plumbers and I know how the pricing runs. They were basically the same or along the same line as other people and I think I really got my money’s worth.

We called in a bit of a panic after discovering what we thought was a leak in the plumbing under the kitchen sink. Clay, from Kennedy Plumbing, responded right away and said he would be over in half an hour, on a Saturday! He quickly determined that we needed a new faucet, and gave us the option of buying one that he had already on his truck, or getting one ourselves elsewhere and having him install it. We opted to get one ourselves, and he returned promptly at 1:00 p.m. to put it in -- quickly and efficiently. The job seems perfect and we are very pleased. No extra charge for the weekend work!

Kennedy Plumbing responded to my after hours call that there was water accumulating in my front yard in the vicinity of the main water line. This was late on a Friday evening. Since it was not possible for the plumber to get there right away he helped me (ver the phone) to turn off my water at the main. He came out the next monring and it was determined that the water was actually coming from the sprinkler system which was not properly shut off. I was coached on how to properly shut the system off and charged fairly for the service call.
