I dropped off my 2007 Volvo V50 on Monday 9/30 complaining of strong steering wheel vibrations when braking and the check engine light being on. They said it would be ready to pickup on Thursday 10/3. The vibrations were initially thought to be caused by warped front rotors but later determined that it needed new front link arms and shock absorbers. This portion of the repair was done on time yet my analysis of their parts cost revealed a 40-50% markup conservatively when I searched for the same part numbers on www.volvopartswebstore.com. Ex: Shock absorber part # 31277462 online costs $141 each yet HM Motorsports charged me $218 each. Similar markups on other parts. Their labor cost was stated to be $110/hr. Their first diagnosis of the check engine light said that 2 oxygen sensors needed replacemed. They ordered and/or recieved the incorrect parts multiple times causing my pickup date to be delayed until 10/9 when they informed me that they were wrong about the oxygen sensors all along and it was actually just a blown fuse causing the light. My wife and I went to pickup my car on 10/9, paid my $1877 bill, and started my car to leave. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON! In disbelief, I left without my car for yet another day. On 10/10 I was told that they needed to replace the vacuum pump which shared a fuse with the oxygen sensors. They did and I recieved my car later that day. In summary this shops incompetence combined with some supposed issue from their parts vendor/catalog delayed completion of my car an extra 7 days. Positives: They rightly did not attempt to charge me parts or labor on the new oxygen sensors that they installed, the fuse, or the vacuum pump. They also provided a courtesy interior car detail as concession for the first 3 days of delay. They refunded a $49 fee for scanning the check engine light and also upon my request delivered my car to my house. I have since recieved the following email from HMMS Shop Manager which helped quantify the $ relief that was actually provided and I now feel that their handling of the situation was fair. and quot;We have processed the $49 credit, but generally it takes 24-48 hours for those to show up in your bank account. If it does not show up by Monday, please let us know, but I don’t suspect it’ll be an issue. As for the parts pricing, I can appreciate where you are coming from. Put simply, we cannot and do not compete online store pricing. Those facilities deal in very high volume and carry a very different business model. We price our parts based on dealer models and it’s not something we’re prepared to adjust for at this time. As for the delay, I certainly apologize it had to take so long. Diagnosis of wiring/electrical issues like the one found in your car can be very tricky and sometimes lead you down the wrong path on the way to a successful repair. While I realize the oxygen sensors may not have been needed just yet, @ 117k miles, it’s likely they would have been needed soon, and we opted to leave them in as another way to help out. I also know that we offered alternate transportation to help along the way, but were also happy to give you the $199 Gold Detail instead. Lastly, we covered the cost of the $300+ vacuum pump due to this delay as I thought it the best thing for us to do. All told, we spent over $1200 to help make this right, and that’s all we’re prepared to do. I certainly would love another opportunity to win your business, but I also understand if you feel your needs may be met more effectively elsewhere.and quot;

I was extremely impressed with the level of service and professionalism at H-M Motorsports. They took great care with all the work, including the detailing. The staff are very knowledgeable. I had previously gone to them for some help diagnosing a problem with some tires installed elsewhere. They have the necessary equipment and technicians to fully investigate problems.
Description of Work: I ordered tires from another company and chose H-M Motorsports as the installer. The tires were shipped directly to them, which made it quite convenient. In addition to the tire installation, I had them perform an oil change and fully detail out the car in preparation for sale. When they were done, the car looked brand new.
