Had pool refinished almost 5 years ago, not done correct. Had to argue with Bryan the fact it was not, finally came and redone, almost 5 years later it needs to be redone again. My kids feet bleed after each swim. Hard earned money to replace down the drain.

Byrd Pool Service has been our only pool service provider since we got a home with a pool about 1.5 years ago. Byrd Pool Service also inspected a couple of pools for us during the home buying process. The service techs are friendly and know their stuff, and the office staff is also helpful. Mechanical problems are promptly brought to our attention, and I never feel like we're being taken advantage of.

For the third year in a row the metal tool that is used to put my pool cover on and off disappeared from the pool equipment area. I don't use that tool for the pool cover. I use it to help me get the filter cover on and off. I ALWAYS leave it by the pool equipment so that it is there when I need it. The first year it disappeared I thought it could be an honest mistake....that the people thought it was theirs. I called and they claimed no one took it but gave me a used one to replace it. The next year it disappeared again! I called again and was told no one took it. I replaced it myself with a brand new one and this time put my name on it. This year it disappeared yet again and that was the final straw. I called and the young woman I talked with basically suggested to me that I put it "somewhere else and forgot". I said No, I have no reason to put it anywhere else. She then said her guys told her they did not take it. I said It's amazing to me that the tool stays out there all year until pool opening time and then it gets up and walks away from here on it's own!!! I wrote a letter to Mr. Byrd and told him why he was losing me as a customer. I finally heard back from him and although he apologized, he told me his guys did not do it. As far as I am concerned they made it sound like I was was lying! This tool is only around $25.00 so it's not the cost that upsets me as much as the fact that it disappears right after these people are at my house and they won't own up to it. It has made me question every service they have done over the past several years. They have done several expensive service/repairs to my pool over the years and since my pool still seems to have problems I question whether they ever really knew what they were doing! I am definitely not using them anymore. I actually went online at Angie's list and saw they have been given an F rating by others. Now I know why!

First, I would like to apologize to [member name removed] that if she felt like we were calling her a liar, we never intended for that to happen. We really don’t know what happened to the three cover tools that were reported missing. We provide all our pool techs and helpers with their own cover tools, as well as all of their pool cleaning equipment, to help prevent this exact problem from happening. That being said, I’m sure, on occasion, some of our guys may have borrowed a customer’s cover tool and, if so, hopefully returned it to the exact spot they found it at. Upon learning that [member name removed]'s cover tool was missing, we did replace it and re-reminded our guys to make sure they do not use her equipment. I have no explanation as to why this cover tool would turn up missing each year. We have not run into this problem at any other job that I’m aware of.

They came out to bid a job for me and underbid the job saying they did not see how it would cost over 500-700. The guy said I've been doing this for years and it is a no brainer. I told him I did not want a bunch of yoyos that didn't know what they were doing coming out to take care of it and he assured me that would not happen. They came out to replace the line and talked me in to placing it in a different location. I questioned the proper circulation and flow with where he wanted to place it and was assurred it would be no problem with a adjustable piece on the return. From start to finish this was a keystone cop experience. Whether it be with one guy that broke MY shovel because he did not know how to use a shovel. He was also left here on several occassions and I swear he was a pothead because of the lack with this guy. It cost me buy them leaving him here to do a mans job by himself. The guy that bid the job and supposedly knew everything about pools attached the new return line to an old drain line that was capped off and they had to dig it back up. I had to call them back out because of poor plumbing where I could not close the door on the cover to the sand filter. The electrician they used to come out had to come back and did sloppy electrical work. I would NEVER use these guys again. What a nightmare and my pool has never circulated properly since they placed the line where they did and I had questioned. Run from these guys.
Description of Work: They were to replace the return line that was corroded and rusted.

We were called out to bid a job that another leak detection company located. They had bid the repair at $1700.00 to fix it in the location of the leak. When we looked at the job, my bid to repair the leak at the location of leak was $1200.00. You asked me if there were any other cheaper options and my suggestion was to install a new line from the equipment to the pool for approx. $600.00 to $700.00. The actual repair invoice was for $747.00. The circulation of the water was discussed as now the water rotates counter clockwise instead of clockwise. This is not an issue as long as the water circulates in the pool. (You did not want to fix the pipe at the leak location spot to keep return in the same spot due to the cost) As far as the person, I had, digging the trench, he is not intellectually smart as most people but we gave him a job which he could do. He does not do drugs. On the shovel issue, he broke my shovel first and he did not want to stop working, he saw your shovel and used it which also broke. I did replace your shovel with a brand new shovel. Not every job can go perfect, but the plumbing issues were resolved at no cost to you. The electrical work consisted of installing a timer which was performed and I am unaware of what was not finished.

They told us they had to replace all the lines to the pump to the pool. They said it was going to be major reconstruction and cost about $10,000. We ended up calling another company that laughed at that estimate and did some repairs to the line fixed it for way cheaper and everything works fine.
Description of Work: We asked them to come out because we had a problem with the circulation system in the pool.

We were called out to check a circulation and flow problem on swimming pool. Upon the inspection of the pool we noted that the skimmer pipe was severely corroded and the metal pipe at base of skimmer was approx. 60%-70% closed due to the corrosion. The pool had two return pipes going to the pool. They were ½ inch in diameter and made of metal. At the equipment area there were issues from previous repairs to pump and freeze pit. The pump was barely working, (water flow was inadequate). Considering the age of pool, construction of pipes, and freeze pit issues, my suggestion was to repair the skimmer and pipe and the freeze pit, approximately $2,000.00. I cautioned the customer that with a pool of this age and construction, there may be more repairs needed such as installing new PVC lines from the equipment to the pool which could cost up to $10,000.00 because of distance between the pool and the equipment, having to remove and replace concrete deck, re-routing or digging through large old tree roots, etc. We did set up a temporary pump and filter to clean the pool at no charge to the customer. I am not sure what the other company repaired, I could not see what they did nor could the customer tell me what they did. After we removed the temporary pump and filter, the customer’s pool cleaner reported that he could not effectively vacuum the pool after the other company “repaired” the line.
