His pricing is medium. He was really great at doing the landscaping. He did a great job but on the followup course, he stayed off a bit and it is hard to get him back out here. I am satisfied but the response time is not really great on his followup.

The guy from Shades of Green Landscaping completed the work and we’re just trying to decide whether or not we are going to go with him or not. He showed up for the appointment and did the design. He is very busy. I think that’s probably why we’re going to find somebody else. But I had a good experience with him. He was punctual. He answered our questions.

They pulled up what we needed done and that was it. They were very good when they came. The guy even offered to get rid of the trash for us. He was very professional and nice and we would use him again in the future.

Contractor was not punctual, claimed rain impeded work, but failed to call to inform me he would not be working. Paver walk was started, not finished. Poor quality of work. Paid for aeration, fertilization and emplacement of two sprinklers. Cost $1200. Overpaid.. underperformed.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was very good. They were very professional and prompt. Their design was very good. It was a very good price for what I got. It is usually a minimum of 4 to 5 times for the design.

Before we decided to start the work, a family member had severe health problems requiriing extensive hospitalization. We decided to pospone the yard work until next year. We still plan to use them when we are ready to start.

They were polite and courteous, but in my opinion they were really overpriced.

I contacted Shades of Green to get several things done to my yard. I was cutt off while explaining what I was wanting and they asked if they could call me back. They never did. Needless to say, we found someone else.

Upon my initial contact, John Eccles came immediately to my residence. We discussed a plan and he said he would get back with me. Weeks passed, no response. I emailed several times, no response. Then I called and left a message on his phone. He finally called me back and told me that he would email an estimate, which he did after several days. The estimate looked good so I emailed him back and said I wanted him to get started ASAP. I had already waited weeks just to get the estimate. Weeks and weeks went by. After repeated attempts to get a response, I finally email him and said that I really wanted him to do the job, but if he could not, I would appreciate him telling me so I could find another landscaper. For the first time, I got a quick response. He said he has been busy and that he could get to me in a few weeks. Weeks passed again, no contact. I emailed him AGAIN to find out when he could come. No response. After a week, I emailed him and told him I found someone else. Interestingly, He emailed right back and said thank you. I wasted over 2 months.

I made contact from their own website. I waited a week with no response. I made a second attempt to contact them. I told them I had gotten their information from Angie's List hoping this would be important enough to catch their attention. Another week went by with no response. I was very disappoint in their disinterest to my request to meet. Even if they are extremely busy right now, I don't understand why they couldn't have at least had a conversation instead of just ignoring me. I am now in the process of deciding on another landscaper.

John and his crew did an excellent job, from start to finish. They completed the work in the time frame he had given me and actually used two crews at times due do the amount of work I had given them. The whole project, landscaping and sprinkler system, took them two weeks to complete. John's prices were competitive and my wife and I are extremely pleased with the finished job.

I was not impressed with the woman I had talked to. Poor communication.

I found them on Angie's List and they did an excellent job for us and I am very happy with it. The price was just about what I expected to pay for the job.

I started using Shades of Green 10 years ago when John was pretty much a one-man business and it's no surprise he's grown to the size business he has now. Every time I call him, he gets back to me right away, always gets me on his schedule quickly, shows up on time, does an exceptional job and charges a fair price. His crew is wonderful and professional and they have nothing but great things to say about him as a boss - to me, that is the best indicator possible of the kind of person he is and the integrity and quality of the work he does. He's now responsible for the TWO best investments I've ever made in this house. No doubt, he's the only one I'll call him for anything I need and if he can't get to me right away, I'll wait - better to wait for him and know what you're getting than to take your chances with someone else!

Recently-purchased home has a small backyard pond and waterfall that had been neglected for years and fallen into disrepair and a general state of stank. Shades of Green gave us a reasonable estimate to clean out the pond, install a new pump and repair the waterfall. He said he would get in touch with us soon and do the job in two weeks. We had to call him after three weeks to remind him. We got the job scheduled on a day when we had a backyard event planned and reminded him that we needed the job to be done by a certain time. He assured us it would not be a problem. This was not the case, as he showed up that day about five hours later than scheduled. He found the pond was in worse shape than he thought, which led to additional time being needed to complete the job and the need for additional replacement parts. Another byproduct of the pond being in worse shape than realized was the death of the fish that had been living happily in the pond. Pond guy said he had "never lost a fish" in all his years of pond work, but nonetheless, our three fish met their maker that day. According to the pond guy, our fish had grown so accustomed to the funky, dirty water of our pond that being placed temporarily in clean water during the pond work caused a fatal shock to their system. Scheduling issues and dead fish aside, Shades of Green did excellent work turning a formerly disgusting pond into a beautiful backyard amenity. The pond guy even came back to our home without additional charge a couple times after the initial job to fix minor problems we had noticed. He was very good at explaining the intricacies of the work he was doing and telling us what kind of maintenance and care we needed to be doing. Now we have a very pleasant setting in our backyard with a rolling waterfall and sparkling pond. Overall, Shades of Green did a good job with a fairly difficult situation.

John installed a landscape lighting system to replace a prior DIY landscape lighting system was demolished by the May 2010 hail storm. He suggested light placement and had reasonable explanations for his decision as to where to place the new lighting. The final result is fabulous. I can't believe this is my yard !! John also installed 2 additional trees and installed and rearranged existing plant materials to enhance the appearance of my beds. I also was very pleased with his choices and his placement of the plants. The entire project went very well and I would definitely use John again.

We have a large man-made pond (65 feet long, approximately 6500 gallons) which was constructed in 1999. The pumps used for circulating the water were installed on the bottom of the pond, which meant that we had to get into the water to clean and maintain them. We contracted with John Eccles, owner of Shade of Green Landscaping, to install two skimmers and move the pumps from in the pond to those skimmers. John provided an estimate of cost and time to complete. John and his crew arrived at exactly the time agreed to and the work proceeded professionally. During the project we decided to replace one of the pumps with one of greater water handling capacity. This required some adjustments to the containers supplying water to our waterfall which added some time and expense to the overall project. John discussed the revised estimate with us and we arrived at a mutually acceptable new price. The entire job, including the revised requirements, was completed in two days. John and his crew were very professional and cordial, and took our changes in stride. This project was a great experience for us and we are very satisfied with both the process and the outcome. We received excellent value for the price we paid. We recommend Shades of Green Landscaping without reservation.

The owner personally oversaw the work and strikes me as honest. He clearly isn't satisfied with anything less than a job well done. Everything looks great.

We were going to have some landscaping done. So I called them and they came out to make recommendations. However, I do not have an estimate as of now. He was very prompt, courteous and seemed knowledgeable.

John Eccles was extremely pleasant and professional from start to finish. He gave me a fair price to fix the washout area (approx 35' x 35'). When severe rains damaged the work twice after Shades of Green completed the job, they came out right away and did more extensive work than originally contracted to ensure that i wouldn't have any more erosion. John guaranteed the work when he quoted to job and stuck to it even though he and his crew did a lot more work than they bargained for and didn't charge me a penny more. I highly recommend Shades of Green!

We first met Shades of Green Landscaping owner/operator John Eccles at the 2009 Home & Garden Show. We subsequently requested him to submit a bid for a waterfall pond feature that we wanted to install. Our property already had an existing bridge that we wanted to incorporate but weren't exactly sure of what we wanted the water feature to look like. I found John to be very creative and easy to work with. After viewing the proposed area he made suggestions which we used. John also took a photo of the proposed area and used his computer to import what the water feature would look like onto the property photo. We accepted his bid and John and his crew worked very hard to create beautiful water feature and that we were completely satisfied with it.
