The goal of the service call was to detect where a sewer/sanitary odor was emitting within the basement especially during a rain storm. First visit: ======== Andy Wyatt, senior advisor, visited first and assessed the situation and provided a general estimate of what a pressurized smoke test might cost and possible repair costs if a failure in a sanitary line under the basement cement floor was detected. 2nd visit: ======= A week later, Andy brought 2 technicians (Ben Coiro and Carmen Fiorille) to perform two smoke tests in the sanitary sewer system. Very appreciative Andy prioritized my situation with sewer fumes being the amount of work they had commited to from calls from recent flooding situations that cropped up during prior bad weather rain storms. First smoke test was with the roof stack NOT capped which proved that the stack was not clogged by some obstruction (e.g, dead squirrel). If the stack were blocked, that would have forced air in the sanitary line to be drawn from the street and a possible back pressure pushing fumes passed the water traps of our basement floor drains. Second smoke test involved 3 steps: Step 1) Capping the stack on top of the roof. (Ben Coiro was very comfortable and experienced walking on a 2 story colonial house roof line down to the stack to cap it). Step 2) Blocking the sewer line via a bladder balloon at the street cleanout near the side walk the city uses. Step 3) Placing a another smoke bomb down the 2nd sewer line cleanout next to the house and pressurizing the line via a high powered fan on top of the 2nd cleanout. Having a 2nd cleanout near the house really helps with this type of test. Conclusion: Second test did locate a leak under the basement floor via a high pitch noise Ben heard (which only a dog could hear in my opinion) and visual signs of smoke and the sensation of air being pushed through a hole no bigger than a straw used for a spray can of DW40. 3rd visit: ======= Ben and Carman were very professionally laying drop clothes and covering the washer, dryer and furnace with plastic before kicking up a mess. First repair: With fan blowing out basement window, they proceeded to bust open the floor. The broken clay pipe discovered via the smoke test last week was then cut with a saw (kicking up dust of course). A good section of pipe was replaced with proper schedule PVC pipe for under basement floors and rubber boat connectors ontothe good clay pipe still existing. While the pipe was open and exposed, Ben and Carmon placed a camera in the line both directions looking for other compromises. (see pictures of repair). Second repair: Was based on a suspicion confirmed by the camera that a kitchen pipe line under the basement floor was also compromised. With camera, Ben and Carman detected blockage in the line but it was still partially open for some flow. Hearing from other neighbors that s*** from the steel mills used under basement floors after WWII in construction later corrodes cast iron pipes under basement floors, we summarized the worst and busted open a second spot in the floor. The cast iron trap and kitchen pipe leading into it, found under the cement floor, with some force could be crushed by tapping a hammer on it, but still solid enough to not leak smoke during any previous testing. The saga continues ? 4th visit yet to come =================================== After all the necessary repairs were completed, the rain came and the sewer smell still surfaced in the basement. Just so happened to occur as Ben and Carman were wrapping up the job cementing the floor from the prior repairs. Intrigued and dedicated, yet tired from a very hard day?s work, Ben and Carman still stayed passed 6pm looking for the source of the sanitary/sewer fumes. Ben (the professional plumbing hound dog) climbed under a crawl space (flashlight in hand) beneath our addition added to the back of the original house. There Ben sniffed out an old gutter pipe covered by storage items. Taking the camera once more, Ben and Carman scoped the gutter and detected what appears to be an old storm line that dumps into a secondary sewer system that might lead into another system in the backyard. The smoke test would not have detected this secondary system since it?s independent to the sewer system in front of the house. I will have Ben and Carman return to help correct this situation also and am very grateful for their patience, listening skills and persistence in tracking down, not only the root cause of our sewer smell issue, but other defective sewer line areas we never would have suspected were compromised. We worked well as a team investigating many possibilities using very nice tools like the camera, an above ground GPS locator for the camera, and the pressurized smoke test to determine good action plans that most definitely were the right choices to spend time and money on. Many thanks to the Andy, Ben and Carman and look forward to wrapping up this venture soon. Stay tuned for more updates on the 4th visit. FUN FUN yet to come!

My husband and I purchased our first Rental home. We knew there would be some plumbing issues due to the fact that the house was vacant, so I called WyattWorks. They were a recommendation from a friend who had used them before. Josh & Ben came out to the house to see what kinds of issues they would run into. They showed up on time, and very nicely dressed. Both men were polite and curtious. They started right away. Josh kept in touch with me at every turn so that I knew how bad it was. After repairing 14 water leaks (some hidden in the walls), and 5 gas line leaks they had spent 3 full days at the house. The first day they did not leave at all. I felt badly that they worked through their lunch so the second and third days I made sure they had plenty of bottled water, and I cooked for them. They were a pleasure to work with, and we will be calling again when we get the next house! THANKS GUYS!

They were prompt and punctual on the day they committed to come. The employees were pleasant, courteous and took time to explain the details of what they would do and sent me a detailed estimate via email as promised. Because of what I felt were the high cost for the jobs I had requested an estimate, I decided to change the scope of the work and/or continue to seek other estimates.

They arrived exactly when they said they would -- about 45 minutes after our initial call. After taking a look around outside, they said they were fairly certain it was a blockage, and that they would snake (from two directions, I believe). So that's exactly what they did, clearing several blockages along the way. They ensured everything was in working order before leaving. Workers were knowledgeable, polite, and hard-working. I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: They came out on a Sunday to help with toilets that were oveflowing. They snaked the pipes and cleared several blockages. They could not have been nicer, more professional, or helpful, especially when coming out on a rainy, hot Sunday!

Plumber came out. Removed the end of one faucet and cleaned out some debris. Could not get end of second faucet off. After the plumber left, both faucets kept dripping. Called the plumber again. Because both faucets are not the usual brand (Kohler, Moen etc) he asked me to email a picture of the faucets so he could look into replacing the cartridges. Did that in early May and haven't heard from him since.

He arrived promptly. After an initial examination he provided options in an informative and professional way. I felt fully informed and selected an option which resolved the issue. Because the ultimate cost was dependent upon what was encountered along the way, the option I selected was not guaranteed to be sufficient. Nevertheless, not only did it resolve the issue, Mr. Wyatt made me aware of an additional discount which I did not expect. Although the job did not turn out to be as complex as I had feared, the professionalism exhibited by Mr. Wyatt was on a par I wish all contractors would bring to an assignment.

I called this morning thinking that I would have to schedule an appointment for next Tuesday at the earliest. Instead, the very helpful woman on the phone (unfortunately I didn't catch her name) said she would probably be able to get a technician out later that afternoon. A few hours later Jamal called and a few minutes after that he was at my door. He was very courteous and professional, including putting shoe covers on every time he entered the house. My previously impervious drains are now running beautifully. He quoted a price for each job before he started the work, and when he was done that was exactly what I paid. While he was snaking the sink drain the trap cracked (not surprising, the pipes are more than 60 years old) and he replaced it without adding any charges to my invoice. Very impressed overall, particularly with the company's responsiveness.

gas leak repair, plumbing

I initially called this company for a quote to repair a gas line that was damaged by the gas company inspecting a leak as well as to change the water connections on my dishwasher that I recently found out were installed wrong. The owner's son came out and was exceptionally polite and very charismatic. He looked at the gas line initially and said that he would have to work on the price and then proceeded to inspect the connections to the dishwasher. After looking at it, he asked me if I wanted the prices together or maybe not see one or the other "because I know that we're not the cheapest and our prices are high." To fix the gas line he wanted $1300, which was 30% higher than another quote! He then gave me the price to do the connections for the dishwasher and to put a new cartridge in my faucet because it was leaking water at the base...the $229, which I agreed. He then began to take my faucet apart and didn't know the type of faucet that I had and that he did not have a cartridge to replace mine. He then tried to sell me a whole new faucet. I told him that the faucet was only about 2 years old and he was now quoting me to install a whole new installation of over $500. I told him "absolutely not" and to just replace the faucet and to change the connections at the agreed upon price of $229. He now has the faucet apart and it's leaking and he doesn't have a cartridge to match mine. I told him that I thought it was American Standard. He told his helper that he was training to go to his truck and that he had a brand new box of an Am.S. faucet to bring into the house. He said that the A..S. rep gave it to him for free for some problem with another customer and that he would install it for me for an additional $250 +. At that point, he was also adding this service call of $49 which I was told by the office that I would not have to pay since I am on Angie's List and they have a coupon going here and at another site. I told him to forget it and I was done! The dishwasher connections took him 10-15 minutes at best. The whole demeanor changed when it was obvious that this was not going to be a $500-$1300 service call. Prior to him taking the handle off of my faucet, I had water leaking "a bit" from the handle into the sink when I would turn the water on. When he initially looked at it he even said that I probably needed a "cartridge only." But after taking it apart and finding that he didn't have the cartridge, now I really have a leak! It is also leaking under my sink, too. I know how much parts are and between the quote for the gas line and the quote for a new faucet, they are looking at charging well over $200 per hour for labor! If I look at the job for the dishwasher connection, it is almost double that (except for this blue pipe/hose that is about 10 inches and pipe fittings. He admitted that they charge more than others and said that they have to pay for their trucks, supplies, and that they "pay for benefits, plus we have to make a living." I told him that I am sorry, but I think that their prices are unreasonable and that all of this was getting out of hand. I paid the $229 and they left.

The plumber arrived on time. Was careful to cover his shoes when he went in and out to his truck. He explained what needed to be done and showed me the incorrect installation. He was reluctant to criticize the original install, but he finally admitted that he could see no reason it was done the way it was. I appreciated his opinion, since it reinforced our opinion of the remodeler's job. The price seemed high, as the work was completed in about 2 hours, but since I haven't had much plumbing work done, perhaps it is my own ignorance of the going rates. I would definitely call this company again in the future. I felt very confident in the work that was done.
Description of Work: Corrected the improper installation of the drain line for the bathtub. The remodeling company that did a complete re-do of our bathroom last year had evidently installed the drain line with an upward slant, so that the tub drained very slowly. Wyattworks corrected the installation and the tub now drains perfectly.

They were kind, professional, and very helpful. I'll hire them again and again.
Description of Work: We initially called because a pipe in our basement was leaking, but they discovered that my first floor toilet was actually the culprit and for at least the past year has been leaking and wearing away the floor underneath. When they were done, we asked if they could just give us an estimate for our kitchen sink leaking issues and they said they could fix it right there if we wanted because they have so many supplies on their truck.

Andy (owner) and Luke spent two full days figuring out how to fix the problem and get the work done. They prepped me for the worst and fortunately it didn't come down to that. They arrived exactly when they said they would and got right down to work. On their first day they spent several hours trying to diagnose the problem and come up with a plan to fix it without having to do major reconstruction to my house. Throughout the two days they kept me informed of their progress and answered any questions I had. Once they finished, they explained everything to me and showed me what I needed to know about their work. I feel confident that I will be able explain everything to other people, so that should tell you something. Finally, their clean up was great. Wyatt Works was great from start to finish. Their receptionist was fantastic and I wish I could remember her name. Ben, was part of the first crew that came out and helped diagnose the problem. The best duo was Andy and Luke. It was great to know the owner was figuring out this problem and it was fun watching him work with his son. While chatting with them both I could tell how they enjoyed the challenge of this task, and their solution was great.
Description of Work: We had some major issues with our well that resulted in an almost completely new system. The pipelining, well pump, water pressure tank, and water heater all needed to be replaced. A previous contractor had compounded these problems by severely limiting the access to the well head.

Whatever would cause someone to hug their plumber after he'd been working on your sewer all day? Well, I just hugged mine! Wyatt Works was not a company that was known to me prior to having a completely blocked line that threatened to overflow from the basement drain whenever anyone flushed a toilet or emptied a sink. For over a year we had been experiencing sewer smell, drain flies, and other indicators of a plumbing nightmare. We had another company come out to unblock the line last year, which charged us a lot of money before telling us that the hydrojetting they did (with a massive machine brought in on a trailer that vibrated so much it cracked our garage floor) didn't work - then left. So we knew we had "issues." Wyatt Works was courteous, professional, committed to solving the problem, and considerate of our yard and our home. Ben is an amazing plumber but most of all, a really straightforward, kind, sincere person. These guys worked very hard, explained everything to me (and again to my husband when he came home), gave us 'bad' news in a highly sympathetic way, and best of all - fixed the problem. They cleaned up, left much less dust than I expected, and were careful to hang plastic to minimize exposure to jackhammer dust so as not to aggravate my asthma. They even noticed that a toilet was running off the hook and fixed it before leaving! I can't recommend them highly enough. Yes, it was expensive. We thought the price was very fair considering that a septic subcontractor was also involved and there was a lot of labor associated with the job. It's a real relief to know it was done right. Call these guys, seriously!
Description of Work: Our 90-year-old house had a sewer line that was so filled with gravel and rocks that it was impossible to run a camera through it to assess the location of holes and the need for repair. The first time Wyatt Works came they identified the condition of the line and tried to remove the impacted gravel to no avail. They then identified Plan B and made arrangements for a septic system contractor to come the next day to suction out the line from the cleanout at the edge of our property. Afterwards they ran a camera through the line and identified three holes beneath the basement floor - two under the carpeted family room and one in the uncarpeted laundry area. On the third trip they jackhammered up the concrete in the basement, ran PVC pipe through the old line to repair the breaks, replaced the cleanout and part of the stack, and poured new concrete to patch the floor.

The whole process went very well. The technician called ahead to let me know he was on his way. He was in uniform and presented his card. He was on time. After I explained all the problems I was having he gave me a quote. I decided to go with Wyattworks to do the work. The technician explained what he would be doing and what would be my price, also if he could not fix something the way he explained he told me what the alternative was and he also let me know the price difference. He then let me know what he would be working on first when he was done and where he would be next. He was quick and knowledgeable, and had everything that was necessary to do the work. He was very polite. He was quiet. He left everything clean and no debris for me to clean up. This was quite painless. He let me know that their work is warranted for 1 year. There were no price changes, I looked at the invoice, which was emailed to my inbox and he also gave me a discount. Thank you so very much. It was a joy. B. Vaughn Cleveland, Ohio

They were very professional and honest. Without getting into a ton of detail, the man cautioned me that as they worked, it was possible that due to the nature of the job, they might discover that the job would cost about a couple hundred dollars more than they anticipated, if they had to dig down to find the pipe underground. At that point I was very disappointed, BUT! Then next time I went outside to check on the progress, he told me they wouldn't have to dig. To me, that means that this company is about doing what's *fair*, doing only what needs to be done, and not just making as much money off the customer as possible. Furthermore, my coal room is dry! Even with all the snow melt we had in Feb. and March in the Cleveland area, the coal room has stayed dry.
Description of Work: They flushed out and cleaned the drainage pipe around my house. (Invoice said "downspout jetting." They put a camera and high-pressure water jet into the drainage pipe around my house via the downspout drain.)We had seepage of water into the old "coal room" in our 90-yr old house.

It went well. I recently found out that a prior plumber during a renovation used the wrong part (black iron) in the water line, leading to rusty water - and that it would eventually fail, causing a leak in the wall. I got several quotes, and Wyatt was the most reasonable. Jamal came out right on time, replaced the part after providing the quote, and did so quickly and courteously. While there, I had him look at a fill valve that needed to be replaced. As this is my first home, I figured that's something I should know how to do moving forward, and asked if he'd show me how to replace it. He patiently did so and the toilet works better now (no more water spraying in your eyes when the tank lid is off!). I'll continue to use WyattWorks for all of my plumbing needs!

They came out to repair the pipe, they do not fix the hole in the wall. They promised me a receipt and pictures of the before and after for insurance purposes and I have never received anything back from them. They were also to do a narrative of what they had found due to the fact that they had stated that the previous plumber had improperly insulated the pipe and this is why it has bursted again. Updated 05/27/15-I have since received a bill from them to give to my insurance company and they did apologize, but it took one month to get the bill.

Andy sent a very professional and polite crew to our house that arrived on time. They did a walk through of our plumbing and came up with a few options. They talked me through each option along with pricing before they started working. They were fast, completed quality work, and educated me on our house and things we could improve in the future if necessary. The problem was fixed quickly and they cleaned up the mess before they left. I've never had a more pleasant or professional experience with any other service company who has entered our house! We are beyond satisfied, and would without a doubt call them again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Description of Work: Andy talked me through various possible issues over the phone and offered me a few options along with pricing. He was very informative, patient and did not push any services on us. He sent a crew for a scheduled appointment and they found a frozen wall insulation and a blocked pipe filled with ice that was backing up our kitchen sink.

gas leak repair

I have a gas leak and a water pipe frozen. They came out and gave me a quote for $2000.00. I haven't had running water for almost a week. They insist on having the money in full at the time they are at your house. They charge $135.00 just to come to the house if you don't accept their proposal. I called the owner and asked why it is so much. He said all of the lines have to be checked for a gas leak. He said he would come out and assess the job and give me another estimate. He never came out and just referred me to another plumbing company. He didn't even let me know that he wasn't coming out. The gas company says everyone has small leaks and that is not to worry. I think WyattWorks is making it a big deal to make more money.
Description of Work: They gave me a quote.

Response from WyattWorks Plumbing
As indicated by our A rating and Super Service Award for the past 7 years, we at WyattWorks Plumbing must respond to this review as inaccurate. We did indeed respond to this call in a timely manner on a very difficult sub-zero day. When arriving and assessing the situation our technician respectfully advised you that because the gas company turned off your gas your pipes froze in the mobile home. He then suggested that the necessary repairs "could" exceed $2000.00 You were not given an official quote but rather a "ballpark" quote. As anyone in the industry knows gas leaks are unknown until tested in full. We charge $49 NOT $135.00 to come out, which we did not collect from you. You cursed at our technician and asked him to leave. You called our office and were very rude and abusive on the phone. We tried to accommodate you by finding another company. That company responded to us by "we will not work for her, she just cursed me out", I then referred you to two other contractors. I was told by one of them not to work for you. They had been to your home and had a similar experience and left. I offered to help you directly however your attitude and tone was so hostile that I blocked your phone number. Please do not contact our Wyattworks again. You are officially fired!

I have used WyattWorks 3 times. In all instances they exceeding expectations. I came home at 9:30 PM to the sound of running water. It was behind the recessed refrigerator. I turned off the water and called WyattWorks. Josh said they would get to me tomorrow and that someone would call in the morning. I did receive a call and Ruth was able to get me on the schedule. The owner, Andy came out and was able to very quickly fix the break in the line leading to the icemaker. Once that was done he noticed two holes in the outside wall that air was coming from. He pushed insulation in to these areas to manage some of the air flow. Will have this wall better managed in the Spring. Can't brag enough about Any, his company and employees.
Description of Work: Moved fridge to fix a break in the line feed to the icemaker.
