Worked great afterward, this is the 2nd time they have serviced our appliances, excellent both times.

This last service was our second experience with Rippe Brothers. We called for service on our LG washer. The service person showed up the date and time he said he would. He diagnosed the problem and found that he needed to order two parts. One problem rendered the washer inoperable so that we could make use of the washer while waiting for the other part the service man came back and repaired the unit. He came back to install the second part under the same service call/charge. Great and prompt service for a fair price.

Not good. Out $75 for a service call.
Description of Work: Maytag dishwasher was under warranty, but they are not Maytag warranty service providers, but didn't tell me that before they came out. The dishwasher is brand new, and had an issue. Now I have to locate another repair company. I had to pay them $75 for a service call and diagnostic. Won't use them again.

Response from Rippe Brothers Appliance Repair
There are several reasons why this customer is unhappy besides our cost. He is a landlord and his tenant does not speak English. He misunderstood her when she told him what appliance it was, there was always the option of driving to the tenant's home and having her show him what appliance wasn't working. If an appliance is under warranty, that is the customer's job to find that out before calling another company out. We have dealt with a couple of situations that are similar- we went ahead and completed the diagnostics and replacing parts and never received payment because their manufacturer's warranty only covers their own technicians and parts which is why we had this customer call the manufacturer directly. I am sorry that this particular customer could not understand his tenant and that caused confusion for him and also our technician and office staff.

The Rippe Brothers technician was assigned by our home warranty company to repair our built-in microwave. The technician who arrived came in, walked right across my white carpet with his dirty shoes on, gave a rudimentary look at our microwave and it was clear he had no idea what the error code was that was blinking on the front. I told him about some of the fixes I had discovered when I simply googled the error code and the model number, an idea that obviously had not occurred to him. He exhibited no interest whatsoever in pursuing a solution. He then insisted that he could not remove it (a built-in, over-the-range unit)because it might scratch the fridge positioned next to it. He was going to need another man to help him so he needed to reschedule, but he was nevertheless going to take our $100 deductible anyway. He took the money without performing a single task and quickly left, telling me that it would take several days before two men had the time to get back to my house and remove the microwave for servicing. I had the feeling he was trying to end his workday quickly and was hoping he didn't have to do much on this call.I'm not sure if this was a stall because the tech didn't know how to fix it or if he was truly lazy, but my husband came in after he left and had the microwave out and on the counter in 5 minutes, with no damage to anything whatsoever. This technician's attitude was one of sheer laziness, incompetence, or something, but after that experience with a completely lackluster employee, I would never hire the Rippe Brothers again, for anything. It's too bad that perhaps not all of their employees are this way, but this one certainly didn't reflect on the company well.A follow-up: We told the home warranty company that we would not deal with this company again. They sent out a different company, Day's Appliance Repair, and their technician did an excellent job attending to the microwave, the fridge and the dryer, all in one call.

Response from Rippe Brothers Appliance Repair
It is completely unfair for the member to rate our pricing. It is not Rippe Brothers' decision as to what her contract says with her home warranty service. As far as bringing another technician to her home, that has to be approved through her home warranty company, per our contract with the home warranty service company. If the member would have read her contract thoroughly she would understand that the contract clearly states that. Our technicians are trained to used caution when dealing with our customer's appliances. That being said, our technician did not want to scratch or dent their stainless steel refrigerator. In Rippe Brothers' eyes, that was the better route to take instead of damaging their appliance. The time frame that it took to get another technician out was a very reasonable time frame considering that we had to get approval from the warranty company in order to do this. Rippe Brothers strives to perform the best service for all appliances but we are unable to meet unrealistic expectations.

I checked Angie's list first to find a reputable appliance repair co. that #1) services Whirlpool washers #2) had good reports from previous customers and #3) were fairly close by. I think we made the wrong choice.
Description of Work: Service call to analyze the problem($79.00), 1 week later, installed a new tub and bearings to 3 year old Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine ($419.00) I called the office on a Saturday April 30, 2011 hoping Rippe Bros could come out and look at my 3 yr old Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine on that day.Even though their website says that they service on Saturday, the girl who answered the call said that they were closed and she made an appointment for the following Monday. The repairman, Joe, came out and analyzed the problem and said the the bearings were "shot" and we needed an entire new tub. The estimate for that was $419.00 installed. He suggested I call Whirlpool and ask if they could help us out with this problem since the washer was fairly new and only used for 2 people. I did that, and Whirlpool said "No"&, 'sometimes these things just happen". Not happy with Whirlpool at this point but decided to have it repaired even though we were putting $500.00 into a washer that cost $800.00 to begin. Rippe Bros staff checked and they would be able to get the parts from Columbus. The staff person(Brittany) told me that it usually takes a couple of days to receive a part from their Columbus source(that was Monday). By Thurs. I had still not heard anything from Rippe Bros so I called to ask when they were coming. She said they did not have the part. I asked when would the part arrive? They didn't know. I said, "Don't you think the courteous thing for you to do for me is to call Columbus and ask them when the part would arrive.?" Not liking that question, she agreed to make a call. She then told me that they would have it the following week and they could install it on Monday May 9, 2011. It seemed like a no-brainer to me as far as customer service is concerned. My unhappiness was with the office staff and their responciness, punctuallity & professionalism. Joe, the repair tech was very professional. The tech came at 2:45 and left at 5:45. So far the repair seems to be OK. They only have a 30 day warranty on their work.

When I originally scheduled the repair, I told them that I thought it was a relay because of what I had read on the web. When the repair tech arrived he diagnosed it as a bad relay but had not brought the part. He wanted to return later that week to do the repair but I was going out of town. He made the extra effort to return to the office, pick up the part, and complete the repair that afternoon. I have no issue with the repair tech or actual repair, however, their office personnel did not pass on the information I had given them so that the correct part was not on the truck. Also, I told them when I called that I had an Angie's List coupon but it was not deducted on the invoice so the repair tech had to do that also. Other than the office personnel issues, I would recommend this company for appliance repairs.

Showed up exactly as scheduled. Went about his job quckly. Thoroughly explained what he found and what he did. For us just needed a good cleaning of lint, touch up some rust areas with new paint, ensuring all belts in good order, etc.. Also said duct to outside needs to be cleaned but since enclosed in finished basement need duct company to do. Recommended who not to call, lucky as that was who I was going to call, and found a much cheaper alternative on Angie's List. Very Professional.

Over all a great experience with this company the service man was honest by showing me the problem of a screw lodged in the dryer.Went the extra mile by cleaning out the change that was in the bottom of the dryer and checking the vent on the outside for obstructions. Its a pleasure to meet honest people and getting more than expected for your money... I would highly recommend this company to anyone that has a problem with appliances...Thanks I appreciate your service.
Description of Work: They were able to schedule my apt. the next day after i called them with a two hour window, The service guy came within fifteen minutes of the window. He opened my dryer found a screw that was lodged inbetween the drum which was causes my dryer to make a awful noise like it was off balance..Even when empty. He showed me the screw along with several dollars of change in the bottom of the dryer.I was about to clean out the change and he quickly told me he would take care of it.He also went out to check the vent outside.

When the service technician arrived, he informed me that he did not know that the machine was a Sears-Bosch rather than a Bosch brand machine (despite the info that I had provided the company on my initial call), and therefore he had no parts and would have to diagnose the problem and order the correct parts for a future installation visit. After about 30 minutes of disassembly and checking, he confirmed my assessment that the drain pump was not functioning properly. He called in the part number to the office and informed me that I would need to give them my credit card info so they could order the part. I called back with the card info and was told this was to insure that they had a means to collect for the service call, should I fail to have the repairs made. An appointment was made for a return visit the following Thursday based on the estimated ship date. Subsequently the office called back and said the order was now not scheduled to ship until the date of the return appointment. We adjusted the appointment to a later date. Then they called back on the original appointment date 10/28/10, in early afternoon advising the part was in and could I have them come within about 30 minutes to make the repair. I agreed. The technician arrived on time and installed the new pump in less than 20 minutes. While he was completing the installation of the new pump, I examined the removed unit and discovered there was a medium size rubber band that had somehow become ingested into the pump (even though we could not determine how this had gotten past the filtration system) and and was wrapped around the impeller shaft and was acting as a brake on the impeller. I quickly pulled the rubber band free by stretching and unwinding it and found the pump to now turn without resistance. The technician stated that he had never even noticed the rubber band sticking out from under the impeller shaft/ motor cover. The bill presented me for the incomplete diagnosis and replacement of the unneeded pump was itemized as Service call - $49.95; Pump - $60 (actual cost from Bosch = $40.70 plus shipping); Labor - $75; Tax - $12.02; less $10 for Angie's List coupon (Sales tax charged for the full amount before discount coupon credit) for a Total of $186.97. The technician was certainly very competent at knowing how to accomplish the machine disassembly necessary to make the repairs to diagnose the problem, but failed to diagnose beyond exchanging the component, after I had already determined what part was malfunctioning. Had he done a complete diagnosis, the problem could have been corrected with the removal of only one screw to expose the impeller in the bottom of the tub and the removal of the rubber band; with no expensive pump replacement; no second trip; no additional wait of three more days for the (unneeded) pump; and a much reduced labor cost ($20 diagnostic fee). The office staff failed to make note of the make, model, serial number, and preliminary diagnosis info -- or the tech failed to review this info to obtain the part needed, which subsequently required an additional time delay for repair and a second service call. The process left me without use of this dishwasher for a period of 10 days. An appropriate service call with complete diagnosis should have been $49.95 for the trip charge less $10 Discount coupon; plus $20 diagnosis charge (including removal of errant rubber band which took me less than 30 seconds); Tax - $3.90 for a total of $63.85. Even an additional labor charge of $20 to remove the pump for closer examination and removal of the rubber band would still have resulted in an repair cost saving of nearly $100. I would use this company again, but only with reservation and much more scrutiny.
Description of Work: A high quality Sears Kenmore Elite Dishwasher, made by Bosch, slightly under 4 years old (but out of warranty), was malfunctioning -- upon completion of the full wash cycle, water remained in the bottom of the washer tub. I went through all the "User Handbook" trouble shooting diagnostics – cleaned the filters, insured there were no kinks or blockages in the drain hose, and examined the drain pump impeller for freedom of rotation. I determined that the drain pump seemed to be bound up and/or stiff in rotation. I even disconnected the dishwasher and removed it from the cabinet to examine the underside to see if I could access the inner works for further inspections and determine if any other potential obstructions existed in the drain system. I called Rippe after determining they were the only one of three on Angie's List of top-rated companies closest to my home with a high degree of experience working on Bosch made appliances. I called on Monday morning 10/18/10 and they told me that their Bosch specialist was already booked for the entire week with first available appointment the following Monday, 10/25/10 -- which I booked. They also informed me that they did not stock the parts for the Bosch machines, but could usually approximate what was needed by my problem description, and order parts in advance of the appointment. So I provided the make, model and serial number for the machine, along with my preliminary findings and diagnosis.

I asked the technician if there was any way to make the dryer work for another year, as we don't anticipate having the rental longer than that. He suggested a used dryer and said he would call me back once he looked to see if they had any. Despite my repeated messages left with the office and the technicians phone I never heard back from them. I went ahead after about 4-5 days and purchased a dryer on my own. I also haven't recieved an invoice for the service call.
Description of Work: I called to have a dryer in my rental home looked at. There was confusion on my renters part on when Rippe was coming, so we had to coordinate another time, and they were very patient with this. Our dryer was looked at and a lot of things needed repaired so the repairman recommended we replace it rather than fix it.

The technician arrived on time and assessed the problem. He discovered ice under the produce drawers and removed it but did not discover the source of the water. Told me to check regularly for water and call if the problem continued. Later that evening he called to say that he had researched the problem and needed to come out to trouble shoot another area. He found a defrost drain hose that was frozen which he defrosted and opened up the drain. Problem seems to be solved. No charge for the second trip. Very professional and I would definately use them again.

The water wouldn't shut off on our refrigerator door dispenser, the dishwasher door kept falling all the way open and making a horrible banging noise when it did, the washer handle broke off and I was using a plyers to pull the nob out to start the cycle, and the dryer handle wasn't turning properly so it wasn't processing through the cycles correctly. They came twice and each time it was the same guy. He's very personable and explains what he's doing as he fixes things. Our refrigerator is built-in. He had to pull it out, replace a water valve (which he had in his truck), cleaned the coils and 10 years worth of dust from behind the frig. He adjusted the springs on the dishwasher and vacuumed underneath. It no longer bangs when you open it. He ordered the knob for the washer and showed me how to install it so I could replace it myself and not have to take time off work to meet him just so he could screw it back on. The dryer didn't act up while he was here so he couldn't find anything wrong. Called them back a week later because the dryer was still acting up but this time I realized the problem was the dryer knob was going backwards. When he came back, he brought and installed the washer handle. He said in all his years of appliance repair he had never seen a dryer knob go backwards so he was surprised to see that it actually did go backwards. He replaced the timer, the glider drum and oilled the barrings on the dryer. Once again he took the time to vacuum out the 10 years of lint which had collected in the various parts of the dryer. For each appointment, they gave me a 2 hr window, but he always showed up within the 1st 15 minutes. He was always quick, thorough and clean in his work. I will definitely use Rippe Brothers in the future.

Our washing machine had quit working and the burnt rubber smell at the time made us think that it was a problem with a belt. We called to have them come and repair the machine. They arrived promptly when they said they would and checked out the machine. He quickly found that the problem was much bigger than I had thought. The drum of the machine had rusted out and was completely separated from the drive shaft that makes it rotate. He checked on the cost of the parts and gave me a minimum estimate for the repair work which was right about $300. He stated that this was the minimum and that it could possibly be more depending on what he found once he took everything apart. He commented to me that he had seen a washing machine at Home Depot just a few days earlier for about $350. I thanked him for his efforts and told him that I would probably be buying a new washer, but would contact him if I decided to have this one repaired. I always appreciate it when the company makes a decision based on what is best for you, not what is best for them.

The overall experience was very positive. The only downside was that it did take two days before I was able to reach them on the phone to schedule a time to come out and do the repair. Once I did reach them on the phone, it took another two days before they could come out to do the repair. However, it was certainly worth the wait. The technician showed up exactly when he said he would show up. He was very courteous and professional, and he definitely knew what he was doing. He found the source of the leak quickly and repaired the washing machine quickly. I felt he was very fair on the price of the repair and I certainly had the feeling that he was a very honest person. I would trust him with any future appliance repairs I may have in the future.
Description of Work: My clothes washer had a leak in it. The leak was from inside the washer. I have an LG front loading washer and the washer is 4 years old. Rippe Brothers was a recommended service provider by LG. The technician came out and quickly identified the source of the leak, which was the drain hose that was connected to the bottom of the drum. He had a new hose in stock and was able to repair the washer that day. The technician was very professional and knowledgeable. I was extremely happy with his service.

When I called the company to set up an appointment, they were very courteous and asked for information on the dishwasher so the tech had the information on his laptop when he arrived. The tech was very professional and kept trying different alternatives until he got our dishwasher working. He also checked other parts of the dishwasher to make sure they were working correctly. We would use Rippe Brothers again. It was worth paying a little extra and have the problem fixed.
Description of Work: Our Kenmore dishwasher would not start when we pushed the start button. Other buttons did light up however. Rippe checked the connections to the front display panel. When that didn't solve the problem, he then cleaned the door switch and that did get the dishwasher working again. He recorded the serial number on the company website so that if the display panel is going bad, they can bring it with them if they are called again

I was pleased overall. The repairman was on time, a big plus. He also took the time to explain what he was doing, and how the appliances worked. He also talked freely about the pros and cons of the newer front load washers and what to look for when shopping. Fortunately, he was able to save mine from an early demise. :-) My only complaint is the $50 trip charge. I know it's common, but it still leaves a bad taste. But I will definitely use them again when needed.
Description of Work: I had them come out to fix my washing machine, which had stopped draining. The repairman quickly diagnosed it as a plugged drain and was able to remove the sock that had become stuck in the pump. He also fixed the squeaking noise made by the brake when the washer stopped spinning. While he was there, I had him look at my dryer which was also running loudly. He replaced a pulley and adjusted the belt. This added minimal cost and about 15 minutes to the job.
