We hired Lowe's to install a fence. They subcontracted (as always) to a third party. The subcontractor showed up and began demolition of the old fence. After they had the old fence down, they presented my wife with a Waiver of Liability, informing her that the work could not proceed without it. KEY POINT: The document was presented AFTER the point-of-no-return. Having no other choice my wife signed the document. They continued work, and in the process struck a cable company transmission line. We received a bill for over $1600 for the repair. The subcontractor refused to pay the bill. Lowe's chose to side with the subcontractor. Here is the problem: This specific damage is why we hired Lowe's to begin with. We assumed that they would have workers with appropriate insurance to cover such damage. For Lowe's to hire a subcontractor without sufficient insurance, and to stand behind the subcontractor when they make a mistake is completely unconscionable. SO: when you have Lowe's install anything be aware that they may leave you footing the bill for their contractor's mistake.
