The company took 2 hours to go to Lowe's which is 20 minutes away. They were here working for less than an hour. Then one of the workers told me that they don't want to work in this environment due to spiders and the smell and they left. The job is not completed and is unsatisfactory.

I personally talked with this member on the phone about her job list and told her to purchase all materials. She ordered on line from Lowes and called me to pick them up and schedule. Our men went to her house for paper work for materials and then to Lowes to pickup patio blocks, shelving unit, lumber and other misc. materials. When they got back they went in her house to go over the work. They called me to say the condition in house and garage were not good. With 9 cats in her house and garage, they were instructed to do all work out side the house by me because they would not work inside. We spent 7 hours between everything and I told her we would refund the remaining hour. She wanted a full refund and we would not do that so she wrote this review. Thanks for the opportunity to reply.

Not the greatest. That is why I didn't write a review yet. They never completed the job and it cost over a thousand dollars and I said we have to stop because I can't pay anymore, that was it. It's hard to say because Delauro had an assistant with him and he said he had actually talked to someone and why it took so long to do it. He said he had to go in an undo some of the work I have had previously done. Whether that's the case or not I'm going by what they said. They didn't finish the work because I couldn't afford to have them do anymore work. They were on time.

They were on time and did an OK job. They missed a few spots on Window Sills, but they were young kids. I ended up touching up a few spots afterwards, but I am a little bit of a perfectionist.
After their schedule was cleared and the new tile for the shower wall arrived, DeLauro began tear-out on April 3. The work went quickly that morning and the tub was removed intact and without damage. It also didn't take long for DeLauro to determine that the floor tile was not installed properly by the previous contractor either: he tapped each tile with a small 2x4 and demonstrated how secured tiles sounded different (lower pitch, no hollow/echo) from loose tiles (higher pitch with echo). He offered to go ahead with the job as originally planned but recommended pulling up the tile to see what was wrong there. He also gave an estimate for the additional labor costs involved. Concluding that installing right over wrong is no savings in the long run, I agreed to have him pull up the tile. Again, another conclusion was reached quickly when a crowbar was taken to the first loose tile: the backer board was being pulled up with the tile, indicating that the backer board was not properly secured to the subfloor. Pull it all, I said, and beneath the insecure backer board was plywood subfloor not secured well to the joists. Finally, pulling the subfloor revealed that the joists has not been properly sistered and strengthened. (The original 4-inch cast iron plumbing was laid into the floor by the original builders 100 years ago with huge notches cut into the joists.) Additionally, the joists were not level, as is often the case with century homes that have settled a bit over the years. So DeLauro used 2x4s and 2x6s to sister the compromised joists as well as provide leveling around the perimeter of the room to ensure the new floor would be as level as possible. Finally, the two hot-and-cold flex lines running to the shower were installed above (rather than beneath) the main PVC waste line, so they were cut out and new flex lines installed beneath the PVC. This was precisely the kind of work DeLauro anticipated would be involved in correcting the mistakes of a previous contractor, and yet the work was completed diligently and thoroughly. With the floor supports now strong and level, and with the rest of the previous plumbing work proving sound in his estimation, DeLauro installed new plywood subfloor and backer board, with leveling compound applied between uneven backer board joints used to ensure proper installation of the floor tile. New floor tile was ordered and expected to arrive in 1-2 weeks. In the meantime and with the backer board installed properly, DeLauro reinstalled the tub, connecting and testing the plumbing lines to the tub. Then the drywall above the three sides of the tub was reinstalled, and the wall tile over that. At this point DeLauro asked for an initial payment for work completed, and I was able to oblige though I expressed my concern that since the job had already exceed the original estimate, we ought to have something on paper itemizing expenses to date and anticipated for completing the job. This would be to our mutual interest and protection. DeLauro agreed, apologized for not having produced a revised written estimate sooner, and said he would run his numbers and have something printed up for me soon. In the meantime, I went ahead and paid him on April 20 the amount of the original estimate. The floor tile did not arrive as scheduled on April 22, but it finally arrived on April 24, and DeLauro installed it the following Monday April 27. He grouted most of the wall tile and all the floor tile on April 28, and the following day began the detail work of tying up all the loose ends (window trim, doorway, etc.). A final snag was encountered before the work was completed: the standard toilet and flange would not fit onto the PVC connection to the main waste line, because the previous contractor had installed an incorrect fitting (a 3? male fitting as opposed to a 3-1/2? female fitting). DeLauro had to improvise a solution and dremel out 1/4? around the inside of the fitting to make the connection sound. Overall I am completely satisfied and pleased with the work performed by DeLauro Remodeling. Dan is an honest and thoroughly knowledgeable craftsman who pays close attention to detail and follows through completely on the services originally offered. He was willing to take on a tough job at a great deal of time and expense, knowing full well that it wasn't going to be a big money-maker job correcting the mistakes of a previous contractor. He is respectful of the home and the homeowners who hire him, friendly and polite without being intrusive or otherwise inappropriate. His crewmen (Danny and Rico) are equally respectful, friendly and skilled, and their relationship with Dan is a good and productive one: he gives clear direction and guidance, and they follow his lead very well. My only suggestion for improvement concerns the paperwork: clear and timely lists of expenses to date and anticipated for completion of the job, particularly when the job gets more complicated than initially agreed upon, are very helpful both for his own protection and that of his customers. I highly recommend DeLauro Remodeling for any and all bathroom renovation work, particularly with an old house like mine that demands the high level of expertise.
Description of Work: I found DeLauro Remodeling Inc. through an Angie's List special advertising a specific number days worth of bathroom work for a given price. I spoke to Dan DeLauro on the phone in late February 2015 and explained that what I needed certainly went beyond the advertised offer: I needed the complete renovation of my master bathroom begun by another contractor to be finished correctly. This would involve removing the bathtub and the three tiled walls surrounding it, resetting the tub correctly, reinstalling drywall and tile, connecting the fixtures (shower, toilet and vanity) and finishing the window and doorway. He visited my home on February 24 and sent me an appropriate written estimate (for labor only, with any additional materials to be purchased by me) three days later, which also indicated he would inspect and give subsequent estimates for any additional labor he would recommend. Because it involves correcting someone else's prior work, this is the kind of job that some contractors turn down outright (which was the case with several I called, not to mention the estimates I got from three previous contractors who simply stopped calling me). DeLauro Remodeling not only accepted the job but dealt honestly and straight-forwardly with me from beginning to end.

He came Saturday and looked under the sink to see the leak and he told me we should get all new piping under the sink because he saw another rust spot and said we should do the whole thing because you'll never know what future problems you'll have. So I asked him if he did more than just plumbing. I told him I wanted one day to get the floor in the foyer done and asked if he could do it. I told him I wanted to buy tile when it was on sale from like Home Depot and hire someone to lay it. He then started measuring the foyer and was like pressuring me to hire him to do the floor. Then he went upstairs to do the bath because he said he had to get parts to do under the sink. He was wasting so much time and couldn't get the snake to go to the bottom. He asked me if I had a plunger. It's still clogged and the plunger didn't work. Everything is still the same like when before he came. Really what I paid for is him to look under my sink but not repair anything, measure my foyer which I didn't ask for, then try to snake the tub but none of it was done. He called me back on Sunday and said that if I would let him do the floor he would do it for $2000 and I would have to pay for the material that would be about $4000 and for $300 he would do all the work under the sink. He was pressuring me to let him do all this work and I felt uncomfortable.

We are in business to help our customers and this member asked us about a number of issues while there for 2 plumbing problems. As we were about to make repairs under the sink, she asked about a garbage disposal install, then says she wants a new floor, she says look at this and what about that. We are in the remodeling business so we naturally asked about the work. The drain that was blocked we worked on for about 30 to 40 minutes and when are snake could not break thru we used a plunger to breakup the blockage. We had her inspect the drainage after and she said it was better. We gave her estimates for the other work she asked about and told her we can repair the leak also. We have called to resolve any issues she may have but have not received any call back at this time. Thanks for the opportunity to respond, Sincerely DeLauro Remodeling

The one guy wasn’t very competent, and the other was talking on the job, and they charged me extra (above the Big Deal price) since it took more time.
Description of Work: I bought a Big Deal for $199 for 6 Hours of Home Repair, Remodeling, or General Contracting.
The job went well. I was especially grateful that they were able to do the electrical work without any forewarning at all, as the problems had just surfaced prior to their visit. They also did the work at the same exact time that other contractors were doing different work on the home, and managed to work around them with no complications.

Dan is very polite and did show up on time. At that point he told me that he had an assistant on his way as well. I was confused because the work I needed done would only need one person. I went over the work I needed done in the kitchen. Knowing there would be some drying time in the repair process I showed Dan 2 other stops that needed some sanding & patching as well as a new thermostat and door bell to install only if there was time. Knowing that I had purchased 6 hours of time I was very clear to say that anything additional he did would only be done if there was time. I have limited resources and needed to stick to the package I bought as much as possible. The only call I got from Dan that day was that he would have to come back to spray on the ceiling texture after everything had dried. When I got home that evening I saw that he had done more work than was requested. They had fixed other small spots in the kitchen and had primed the walls. The thermostat had been replaced as was the doorbell. I knew I would have additional charges for the drywall and any other supplies however when I got the invoice and it was for an additional $550 ... I was floored! I was also charged for an additional 5 hours of work and supplies for work that I didn't ask to be done nor had I agreed too. Shame on me for thinking that the additional work they did was only because they had additional time. Also know that before I had gotten the invoice I had asked Dan to give me an estimate for work I wanted done at my father's condo. He came in at a fairly low price compared to other quotes on the work needed. I would have hired him too, until I saw my invoice for the additional work he did that I didn't request. Did he do a good job on the plaster work itself, yes however there was plaster splattered on various things in the kitchen. Would I hire him again, no. Would I recommend him, no. I needed the work done because the contractor I had originally hired (not from Angie's List) quit before finishing the job. I'm still looking for an honest contractor that will not take advantage of me.
Description of Work: I bought a special deal for $199 for 6 hours of drywall repair. The work I needed done was to repair a spot in the kitchen ceiling and 1 1/2' x 2' and to patch the wall in the same room where an outlet used to be. If time still remained I also had a thermostat and doorbell to replace.

We met this member at her home, she showed us what her needs were and then some. We said we have 2 men and will split up the workload and if she had other work we can spend more time also. We then told her the cost involved and further said that it can add up quickly at $45 per man hour. She then said we could spend the day there if needed. We prepped, filled and primed the entire kitchen in addition to her list and we sent 1 man back the next day to finish up. The total extra labor was 11 man hours plus materials. She was very happy with all the work we did and how we repaired a difficult area around her recessed light. We looked at her fathers condo and she was equally happy about pricing and info for saving money about the project. When we sent the invoice for the kitchen work she emailed back to confirm the total and then everything changed about her. She told us she thought the extra work we did was out of kindness toward her, and that we felt sorry because the other contractor she hired didn't finish the work. We went over the details from the beginning about everything that was said and she says that's not how it happened. We have yet to paid for the extra work even though she agreed to make 2 payments. We had already reduced her cost because of the extra work we may have gotten from this relationship but will not do any more for her. We also gave her a price to paint the kitchen and she gave us the green light too until she received the invoice for the extra work. We have been doing work for A.list members for 2 years now and completely up front with cost and time and some members just don't understand the costs involved for professionals to work in there home. We will continue to provide quality service for members and the like and are thankful we can respond to this poor review and rating. DeLauro Remodleing Inc.

I purchased an Angie's List Deal for $99 for 3 hours of drywall repair. Dealer came with one worker and they worked from 9-10:45, which I assumed was covered by the Deal. They asked if I wanted another crack repaired and told me it would take 2 hours at $45 per hour. During this time they ran out of materials and had to drive to a store to get more mud. They finished at 2pm and charged me $300 on top of the $99 I already paid. I feel I was totally ripped off, because I was told the extra work would be $45 per hour not $45 per person per hour. I was misled and lied to. This company should not be included in any future Angie's list deals. The job looks well done, but they left a mess in the room and I had to vacuum and scrub mud off the carpet in the hallway and stairs leading to the room.

This member had 2 large cracks the length of her ceiling 3rd floor. She had some drywall installed a while back and it was not fastened or taped properly and so it cracked. We showed her the issues and the extra cost involved to fix it properly. She agreed and we went to work. After fastening, re-taping and filling them with a quick setting compound we provided. We had to feather out the area 2 coats at 12 inches either side to match the ceiling and ran out of our product. We went to the hardware store 10 minutes away and returned to finish the job. We charged accordingly and cleaned up VERY CAREFULLY wiping down the entire floor and then some. She paid us and later send an email about some spots on the wood floor and I emailed back about old paint spots we found on the floor while cleaning and that are compound wipes up. She claims we didn't clean up well and THAT IS A BUNCH OF BULL, I make my guys cleanup everything and then I make them check again before leaving every job. The work we did for her would have cost double of what she paid and she was fortunate to have it done right. Thanks for the opportunity to respond.

The job was a one person project especially since demo and draping of area was done by the homeowner before the crew arrived. In advance, the homeowner stated it was a one person job. The cost should not have required additional hours. The homeowner did not call back for finishing since she felt she could do the finishing herself..the contractor had never done texturing of the style to match the existing ceiling. Being a handy person and quite particular, I decided to complete the project myself.
Description of Work: Placed drywall and plaster to cover buckled ceiling. Demo and prep for project by home owner. Coupon for services..contractor wanted 2 workers. Customer felt more could have been accomplished without the helper who did nothing but mix plaster and assist the plaster person.Seemed the assistant was in training, and required much supervision. The job should not have cost the additional 110 dollars, it was a very small project.

To all A. list members - The deals and or offers on Angie's List. are provided by Angie's List and NOT this service provider. We have teamed up with Angie's List to provide these offers to members for the purpose of paring quality service providers to A. list members the discount are of course great BUT these discounts are for a specific amount of time 2 hrs, 4 hrs, 8 hrs, 40 hrs ect. and any materials are extra. We meet and discuss all work / materials and cost with are customers before hand and did so with this member too. He decided not to have the work done and so received a refund. We are insulted by his review that we baited him with the A. list electrical offer and will continue to provide quality service as we have for 20 years. I purchased the 6 hours of labor for $199 from Delauro remodelling. When I first called to schedule the work, Dan said it could be the first Saturday after that conversation and indicated he would call me a few days to confirm, but never called. I hurried out to purchase the materials for them to come work but he never called, never showed. I called him the following week and he promised to come out the next weekend, and instead of being 1 person for 6 hours he promised 2 people for 3 hours (which I was ok with). The job was simply to replace the bottom 12 inches of drywall around the perimeter of a basement rec room that had to be cut out as a result of a flood. The old drywall was gone, and the site was prepped. I simply don't have time to replace the drywall and worse, mud the new drywall (even though I am pretty handy, I'd rather pay someone to do that messy job). I explained to Dan that I was hoping to get the new drywall up, and the mudding done with the 6 hours so I could paint and be done with it. He understood and agreed that was a reasonable request, but would confirm once he saw the job. On the day he agreed to do the work, I could not be there but someone else was. He showed up 30 minutes late. No call. And when he saw the job, he didn't provide any indication of how much he thought he could get done. I told him to call me with questions or issues, no calls. In the 3 hours that Dan and his associate worked, they only were able to put up the drywall (that I had already cut!) around the perimeter, no mudding, and not only did he use the 3 hours, he charged us $85 for an extra hour AFTER he already worked it. He did not provide a status of his effort, nor did he ask before going over the allotted time and demanded payment (he was paid, not by me but the person on site who didn't know any better, which is VERY sketchy of him - taking advantage of the fact that I couldn't be there and the person who was there didn't know any better). To try and rectify the situation, and give Dan an opportunity to make up for his transgression, I asked what it would take to finish mudding the drywall, he said it would take an additional $600! This is not a big job, it's 12 inches off drywall from the floor up, about 25x12, around a few doors and under some stairs. In my experience working with subs, this is ridiculous. It looks and smells like we were taken advantage of by the fact that Dan knew the parameters of his work, didn't manage my expectations, worked over before having approval to do so, took advantage of the fact that I wasn't personally there, then came back with a ridiculous estimate to complete the job in progress. I take some responsibility for not being there, shame on me, but shame on Dan for handling this situation the way he did. I will NOT be using Delauro remodelling again, and I discourage you as well.

If you to the time to read this member's long paragraph it was to try and discredit our work which we provided in professional manner for his x wife. We had discussed the work and the possibility of going over in time before hand and he asked if we could at least install all the drywall around 80 liner ft. We drove 32 miles on a Sat. for this member to fit his schedule and he did not show up. We had another job lined up for the afternoon and worked an extra hour and a half to install all of this drywall which which had to be cut to size unlike his B.S. review said as well as the hour of prep. which I discussed with him. We were paid for the extra work and received a message on Mon. that he was not happy about the 1 hour of extra cost $90 and then proceed to black mail us into doing more work at a reduced rate and to subtract the 1 hour of time from it or he would leave a negative review. We told him where he could go. We have been doing work for A. L. members for 3 years now, received super service honor's are first year and are one of the larger providers of e-commerce deals. We have had the pleasure of meeting many very nice and easy to work for members but this one is a rotten apple. Thanks for the opportunity to respond to this pathetic review. DeLauro Remodeling Inc.

The walls were in very bad shape so it took more patching and sanding and time than we had originally planned for. We asked them to stay longer and paid additional money from the deal we got through Angie's List but were happy with the work that they did. They also took time to explain different things about the walls and suggested products that would work well on our project. There are a few spots that we still need to patch/sand but the amount of work they did in the time they were there was wonderful. We would definitely recommend them and use them again.
Description of Work: They patched and sanded kitchen walls in preparation for painting.

There was a delay in actually scheduling the service. There was a discrepancy on when the handyman would arrive; I was not home when he actually arrived. Once the work got started, I was satisfied. He hung a light fixture, hung some curtain rods, he also put up a number of towel racks and hung up some items where I am able to store things. He was also able to do other little things around my home too. I was happy with the work he did.
Description of Work: I purchased a deal from this company for $265 for 8 hours of home repair or remodeling.
Almost perfect. I usually do this type of work myself but due to back surgery I had to hire it out. That makes me quite critical. Overall, they did a fine job. The drywall was a bit sloppy but after I tape, mud and paint, it will look fine. All else met my expectation.
Description of Work: drywall, insulation, electrical, door installation

The price included extra labor. He seemed efficient and most time knew what he was doing. Technically, one of our toilets was flashing every 20 minutes and he said we needed a new flapper. By the time I got back from work, he had made it worse. I emailed him back and he insisted a new valve. He fixed it wrongly. We ended up fixing it ourselves. He was responsive getting back to me.
Description of Work: I used them for handyman services.

He came out and snaked the drain, but I also had a bathroom faucet that needed looked at. He took it all apart, and was unable to reassemble it due to its age.
Description of Work: I bought a Big Deal for plumbing.
