Central Ohio Garage Door

Description of Work: Install one single Genie garage door on April 17, installed wall mount button on the inside of the garage and an extra keypad entry on the outside of the garage. Two service technicians performed the work in a reasonable amount of time. "Bruce" I believe is the owner and he was the main technician on this job. Bruce told us that he liked the Genie opener because it has a lifetime warranty and 5 to 6 years on the parts. What he didn't tell us, is that that's not our model. Later when we talk to a Genie customer service worker, we found out that our model #1024 has a five-year warranty and one year on parts. The day after the garage door was installed, the door would not close. I immediately called Bruce. I explained the problem and he felt that I had bumped bumped the sensors. He suggested there was something interfering between the sensors. I then called the Genie company directly. They take you through a step-by-step diagnostic procedure to see where the problem is. They felt very strongly that the sunlight is interfering with the I-beam sensors. I communicated this information to Bruce and he did not believe that was the problem. The Genie company told us to try and swap the sending and receiving I-beam sensors. Bruce came out on April 23 and swapped the sensors. What we found is that this helped, but it didn't solve the problem. On cloudy days and toward the evening the garage door worked fine. During about 10 AM to 4 PM the sunlight continued to interfere with I-beam sensors. I again reported this to Bruce. He said he would call the company and get back to me. He never did. I called the company to tell them swapping the sensors helped but it didn't solve the problem. On May 1 the Genie company sent a new and different set of sensors. They look different and they perform very well. The bottom line is the Genie company they hero of the day. They worked with us patiently, walked us through step-by-step to detect what the problem was and how to solve it. Unfortunately, the installer Bruce, took a far different approach. I would have to say his approach was quite unprofessional. He reluctantly came out six days after I called him and swapped out the sensors. And when calling him back to tell him the problem still exists, all he can say is "I knew that wasn't the problem" I reminded him that it works fine when the sun goes down, but doesn't work when the sun is shining brightly. Therefore his idea that the sensors had been bumped just doesn't make sense.

He scheduled an estimate for the next Monday. He was very honest in his assessment and very knowledgeable. I decided to schedule for the repairs but I wanted to switch to another model from what he quoted. he said it would be no problem. They can a little bit late but worked diligently on the doors. I am very pleased with their professionalism and satisfied with the work.

Description of Work: I purchased the garage door quietening/reconditioning package from Angie's list for $99. I got what was advertised and there were no hidden costs. Bruce from Central Ohio Garage Doors did a great job quieting my garage door by replacing the old metal rollers with new nylon rollers and made adjustments to the door to make sure everything was working correctly. Bruce showed up when he said he would, worked quickly and efficiently.

Description of Work: They cleaned and oiled the springs and the system worked very quietly and still does. We also had a problem with the lights not coming on when the door was operated. We found the system was very old and there were problems with a board in the system. They were able to get a replacement unit (used) and charged a VERY reasonable rate for it. They came back the next day and installed it. That was above and beyond what I had originally asked. They were great.
