Dan Landon did an excellent job walking around the house and noticing things that could be repaired. There were several things I knew needed done, but I forgot about, and he caught them on his walk through. I like that attention to detail. Two men came out and prefomed the work. Both were very professional and I would have them back anytime. They performed the work efficiently and repaired everything as promised.
Description of Work: Having needed a good handyman for several years, I had a list of projects for them including Re-mount Flag Pole Bracket to the brick using lead anchors. - Extend Downspout into Drain Extend the downspout in to the drain just to the left of the front door. - Re-direct Sump Pump Output into Drain - repaar two cracked kitchen cabinet doors that need to be glued and clamped -The toilet paper holder in the hall bathroom is loose on one side. We will re-attach the toilet paper holder to the wall and will try not to move it because of the special paint that cannot be reproduced - Screw in French Door Detent (2 Each) Two sets of French doors have loose detents. we will screw them in tight so they will close properly. One set of French doors is missing the trim piece. We will remove the finish nails and patch the holes with a putty stick. The detents also need to be lubricated. - Re-install Roof Valley Dam One of the roof valley dams has come off and we will re-attach the aluminum dam on the gutter. - Re-configure Roof Valley Dam The roof valley dam just to the left of the front door is not working properly and water is coming past it onto the flower beds. We will re-configure this valley dam to be more effective. - Clean Dryer Vent The dryer vent from the dryer to the outside will be cleaned of lint.

After reading reviews on Angies list, I selected this professional. He was prompt and courteous, and the job was not easy as we have high ceilings. After some e-mails, two workers showed up on time n the day appointed and carried out the work with minimal supervision. Ceiling in my office was painted to a high standard with good preparation to protect all surfaces from paint. Two chandeliers were changed out with zero damage to either new or old fixtures. Later the owner contacted me to say he had factored in the paint in his estimate and invoice (which I had in fact purchased) and will be issuing a $50 refund. Stunning honesty in this day and age!
Description of Work: Changed two chandeliers and repainted office ceiling.

We were pleased by the knowledge and expertise of the two contractors and the great attitude. Dan Landon, himself, handled the repairs for the hot water heater and spray attachment. Another professional dry wall contractor, Mike, did the drywall and painting. The area of the drywall that needed repair now looks great and the color match was excellent! Thank you, Home Solutions Handyman!
Description of Work: My husband and I were extremely pleased with all the effort to do three jobs in a prompt fashion, due to our pending move and our need to prepare the home for the new buyers. The jobs were to replace a spray attachment to our laundry room sink, a drywall repair and then repaint the area where an old telephone outlet had been, and to replace both heater elements of our hot water heater.
Great from beginning to end. Dan came over on time to create the estimate and was very knowledage concerning all types of home repair. He was also very professional in the delivery of the quote. He sent it online, a few hours after his visit with all his documentaton for bonding, et al. I also liked that his team are employees. not subs. Mike is sensational. Very personal to my husband and I but knows what he is there for yet great at light chatter which is important to me as I need to be comfortable with anyone in our home. Mike started with the door and then intellignetly mixed other small tasks between priming, painting, grouting (which I asked for) and the flooring work. This ensured that he was busy all the time, moving through his work order in a logical fashion optimizing his time. We would work with this company at any tme. Very very happy with the work and the entire experience!
Description of Work: We had 3 small but important jobs. 1) Critical. We have an exprensive front door (beveled glass and lead) that somehow began tilting from the frame therefore, it could not latch without force and locking it. This was dangerous because kids and pets could easily get outdoors when people would nonchalantly swing the door shut. Mike, one of Dan's emoplyees who seems to be able to accomplish anything handyman oriented took care of this in about 2 hours. 2. After owning some really nice kitchen flooring for a couple of years a seam separated and lifted. The company I purchased it from had gone out of business. It was in a high traffice area and difficult for a 'home project' for a variety of reasons and made my skin crawl every time I looked at it. Mike, using some horrific smelling epoxy product (I ran to apologize to him as I thought something upset my doggies stomach and he had an 'accident') :-) and sheer pressue got that seam to lay down perfectly. It's been a week and it still looks great. (this is why I've waited so long to write...wanted to see if this seam held up). 3) Removing borders and painting smaill bathroom. Excellent work.

Thank you for your excellent report. I appreciate your feedback on how we can improve our service.
The entire staff is highly reliable and professional. Dan works flexibly and respectfully to the needs of the homeowner, and looks for every opportunity to save costs. His estimates remain true to the end, and he visits the job site to ensure the work and completion of the project is satisfactory. He will work in small projects, which many contractors will not even consider, because they want the big money jobs. Dan and his crew deliver the best in customer service in all jobs, small and large. They completed several remodeling jobs throughout 2011
Description of Work: The worked included interior and exterior improvements, including painting, woodwork, siding, lighting and repair and redesigning a stone fireplace and mantle. They also redesigned and installed a wood staircase to our upper level deck.

Dan (owner) was punctual and professional. His quote didn't change even after it took about 3 months to finally get the work done. Mike (from House Doctors) was very professional, and very good. They didn't skimp on material-quality, and they also accommodated my request to get better cans for the recess lights. The electrical, dry-walling, ducting, installing the outside vent etc all went well. My only beef was with their delay in follow-up to fix a follow-up issue - a rattling noise that meant they had to take the hood apart again, and remove the safety (butter-fly) value that was hitting against the duct. It needed 8" clearance, and we had only 7" - so we ended up using a reducer to go from 8" to 6" in the duct work. We have been using the hood for about 2 months now, and no issues so far. I will definitely use them again for more work next year
Description of Work: We have an island cook-top in our kitchen, for which we wanted to get a range-hood installed. I was very particular about the model needed (GE Profile), the type of venting (outside - with a valve installed on the exterior kitchen wall), and the electrical needed to be on its own circuit. Also, I had to get two recess-cans (with lights) moved over a few feet - to make way for the ducting.
Dan Landon was the most professional person of the four different estimate providers. He was knowledgeable, polite, and courteous. His crew, Chris, Jerry, and Mike, performed meticulously resulting in a superior finished product. They cleaned up after themselves and respected my property. There were some challenges I had with the permit needed and the inspections that followed. Dan went to bat for me throughout the ordeal of inspector double talk. Dan had to do extra work to meet the requirements that changed as the inspector would spring new criteria to attain. The alterations and repair work done inside are top notch! Plus, I now have the best deck on the street!
Description of Work: 1. Install deck on back of house. 2. Remove kitchen window and repair drywall.

The repairs were perfectly made, and there is now no evidence that the soffits had ever been damaged. The interior repairs were also made impeccably. We supplied the paint, so we had perfect matches for both the exterior and interior jobs. The two craftsmen who carried out the work -and it was all finished in one day- were punctual, polite, and professional. I would use this company again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: We used Dan Landon's Home Solutions Handyman to take care of 4 separate repairs in our 150-year-old house. There were two damaged soffits; one had a small hole probably caused by squirrel action, and one had been partially dismantled to remove a beehive. We also had two interior walls that needed to be repaired: a drywall in the basement that had been torn up by Duke Energy in order to install a new gas meter, and two panels in the dining room that had warped due to a water leak.

This work performed stopped the original leak that we hired Dan to fix. However in his second proposal, he decided to replace the rolled roof. This was not part of his original proposal and he actually started that work before we had a chance to weigh in. In good faith, we agreed and signed the proposal, which was nearly $400.00 more than his original. This rolled roof replacement actually CAUSED a huge leak over the patio roof, which was not there before his "roof replacement". So I have spent $1499.00 and still have a leaky roof, albeit in another section. Dan fixed one leak and caused another. Also he then waited atleast two weeks before returning to the property to see the new leak, although we were in town and provided pictures taken during a heavy rain. he said he could no fix the roof because it was raining. Therefore more damage has been done. Dan also promised verbally that he would not leave me hanging, yet he has purposely stalled. I am requesting a refund of the cost of the rolled roof. This money should be returnrd to paypal immediately. I originally hired Dan to provide an estimate to rebuild the back porch, as his pictures on Angies List indicate that is his specialty. However he convinced me to let him fix the leak first. My intentions were to hire a roof expert, as can be seen from my searches on Angies List. I went against advice of roof experts and hired Dan instead. I trusted Dan but he charged me for services he knew he did not have expertise in. It is only fair that Dan return immediately the cost of that rolled roof.
Description of Work: copy/pasted from proposal and dedacted: installed a counter flashing membrane on the brick of the house and seal it to the roof. - Replaced Exterior Soffit Panel (2 Each) The damaged soffit panels over the patio were replaced. - Replaced Rolled Roof (78 Sq Ft) Installed new rolled roof on the porch.

The house was built in 1916 not 1977. The member purchased the foreclosed house in March 2010. They contacted us in May of 2011 to repair a leak that had been occurring since before they purchased the house. There is a lot of interior damage from the leak we repaired in the second story porch roof where it joined the house because it leaked so long. The soffit panels on the main roof were rotted and have been replaced. Once we started on the project we determined that the porch roof flashing to the main house could not be repaired or even replaced because of the poor installation and condition of the original rolled roof. We revised our proposal and emailed the revised proposal to the member and called to get approval before the work was started. They did not answer the phone and we left a message. They do not live in town and communications had to be done by email and phone. They did approve the additional work, but it took them a day to get back to us with an approval. The original leak was very bad and there were probably several leaks happening at the same time. Leaks can be very difficult to find. The member called on a weekend when they were in town and asked us to come over and look at the leak they witnessed during a rain storm after the roof was replaced. Because of other commitments, we were not able to go over that weekend. We did go over shortly after that to see if we could determine the cause of the leak. We found issues with the box gutter on the porch roof and sent pictures to the member. The box gutter is loose from the roof structure and there is a large gap between the gutter and the roof. We believe that this is a problem. We have been waiting for a response on moving forward to investigate this leak. We thought it might be appropriate to remove some of the bead board ceiling to see where the leak is coming in but we won’t do that without permission. We have yet to get that permission. We cannot get into the house without the key which we don’t have. We are not stalling! We have yet to receive any direction on what the member wants us to do. We do have expertise in roofing and the rolled roof is installed correctly. This leak is not because of any issues with the rolled roof. Has a qualified contractor told the member that there is an issue with the roof? Has it been documented? If the member will have a qualified contractor document any issues with the rolled roof we will make the appropriate repairs at no cost to the member.

This was an insurance repair supposedly from an ice dam over the winter that backed up behind the gutter and under the roof that caused water damage on the interior walls. The gutter did have a crack that we repaired. Our contract was presented to the insurance company and approved for payment. The insurance company understood very well what we were doing and agreed to it. If there was such an issue with us and our work, why was the final work approved by the member and the invoice paid? We fulfilled our contract exactly as was specified. The gutter was repaired just as specified in the contract. We did not commit to replace any part of the gutter. If the member would read the contract carefully, they would see that was what we committed to. The member approved and signed the contract. We were called early this year to look at what they said was a leaking issue with the gutter causing water damage to an interior wall. We came out and found that the gutter was full of debris and overflowing because it had not been cleaned since we repaired it a year earlier. We cleaned out the member’s gutter at no charge. The gutter is not leaking; the wall damage is from water flowing over the gutter and down the wall. That much water will penetrate the wall and cause a leak. If the gutter was still leaking, water would not have been standing in the gutter, because it would leak out. We have a picture of the gutter full of water and debris. We are willing to repair the wall damage from the gutter overflowing even though this problem is from the member’s gutters not being cleaned out regularly. There is nothing to repair in the gutter because there is not an issue there. The gutters need to be cleaned out regularly. No amount of gutter repair can remedy not cleaning the gutters. There will be continuing issues if the gutters are not cleaned. We are unclear as to what the member wants us to do.

Initial job was 2 partial days. Upon review, I was not happy with some aspects of the work. Dan, the owner, came out to review the work and insisted that the job was not done until we were happy. The workman was back out a few days later for two more partial days to re-execute and in the end I was happy with the work. Despite the need for re-work, I would hire them again. The situation was handled professionally and efficiently.
Description of Work: In back hallway, they repaired section of plaster wall that was water damaged and re-applied baseboard. In addition, for cosmetic purposes, they dry walled old ceiling and mudded in. They added ceiling lighting fixture where there previously was none and installed a light switch with dimmer.

It looks brand new and they did an excellent job.
Description of Work: The repaired a leak in our box window and they coated it with aluminum siding.
The process went extremely well. Dan responded to our call in less than a day and met with us for an estimate within a couple of days. The items were repaired in a very timely manner. John, the handyman, was punctual, professional, and very efficient. He offered suggestions that were better than our ideas and impleted them in short order. Dan communicated with us regularly by phone and E-mail. As we modified the list during the process, Dan and John responded immediately with our additions, deletions, and updates. It couldn't have gone any better. There were only pleasant surprises. The projects were finished on time and on estimate.
Description of Work: We had a "laundry list" of over a dozen miscellaneous items that included: doors that did not latch; exterior door weather stripping; hardwood floor opening trimout; pocket doors that did not operate properly; cabinet that needed a latch installed; dishwasher baseboard trim modification; and more.......................

This was the 2nd "big job" that we used Dan for. He came in and did a great assessment of all the "odds and ends" we needed to get the house back in order. Dan did a thorough review of the entire house and gave us great advice on which repairs were necessary, affordable and nice-to-have. He had 2 craftsman in our home for 4 full days and nearly every minor defect in the house that existed as a results of 8 years wear-and-tear was fixed. The guys were great - trustworthy, resourceful and very easy to get along with. As we continue to fix up the house, Dan will be the first resource that I call for any jobs around the house. Ken G.

They did a great job. It was a fair price. He had good communication, and he stayed in contact with me. He was easy to get a hold of and easy to work with. He gave an estimate for the job, and he came out to do what he was going to do. He didn't change the price, and he did a really good job. He didn't cause me any problems, and he didn't have to do any work over. I didn't have any complaints with the finished product. I let him do a couple of work items in the house when I wasn't there. I was a little nervous at first, but it worked out. He certainly earned the opportunity, and he did a good job. They are reasonable and quick. They do a good job. They do quality work. Approximately 7 months after the installation, one area of the caulk showed signs of problems. It looked as if the caulk was ?melting.? We contacted Dan, who sent out the same (very nice) gentleman who had done the original installation. He expressed surprise at the state of the caulk, asked what type of cleaning products we use (Method, a ?green? product), and replaced an approximately two-foot section of the caulk. Prior to the repair, he let us know that the new caulk would not be an exact match, since he didn?t have the same color that was used originally. We were just happy to be rid of the ?melted? areas. However, as time passed more of the original installation failed in the exact same fashion. By the time we contacted House Doctors in December (Dan and I spent several weeks playing phone tag, being holiday season), it was a month beyond the one-year anniversary of the original installation. But we felt that it was reasonable to expect that they would repair the remainder of the initial installation, since they had already seen and repaired the very same issue several months earlier. We sent Dan photos (which I am including with this report) to show him the state of the caulking. We were disappointed in Dan?s response. He offered to present an estimate to replace the caulk with a silicone caulk that ?should hold up better than the siliconized caulk.? When we told him we were not inclined to pay HouseDoctors to re-do the very job they had done one year earlier, he offered to send someone out to repair the caulk for $114. Again, we declined, and requested that they either replace the faulty caulking or refund our money. Dan?s response: ?I fail to understand why you are trying to make the failure of this caulk our problem. We don?t manufacture the caulk, we only install it?. Just because you had us do the work initially does not entitle you to an open ended repair on your caulk for life for free.? Actually, we just expected a "lifespan" of more than a year. The original caulk has deteriorated to the point that if needs to be completely removed and re-caulked. Seven months later, the caulk that was replaced currently shows no signs of failure. We have had no issues with the caulking around our kitchen sink.
Description of Work: In November of 2009, we contacted House Doctors to repair discolored grout in our walk-in shower. Dan Landon came to write up the estimate. Upon viewing the job, Dan recommended replacing the grout with caulk and gave us an estimate of $357 for the project, which also included re-caulking our kitchen sink. We set up a service appointment, the caulk was installed and seemed fine for the first few months ...

We are truly sorry for the frustration this member is experiencing. We are just as frustrated over this situation. As the pictures clearly show the caulk has either chemically reacted with something or has failed. We went back and repaired some failing areas after the member told us the caulk was “melting”. Seven months later those repaired areas are not failing but the original caulk is continuing to fail. The manufacturer of the caulk would probably stand behind their product and provide replacement caulk, but would not pay for the labor to install the caulk. We stand behind our labor and workmanship, but cannot warrant the manufacturers’ products. We came out the first time to repair the bad areas and did not charge for that work. We are happy to repair the additional failed caulk for the cost of the Craftsman to make the trip.

Excellent! Dan and Mike were both troubleshooting the issue with regard to the range hood that we have in our kitchen. It was a major issue for my husband to have this repaired. Even though they couldn't repair it, the feedback that they gave us on the next steps was valuable, so we would know what to do. Same thing for some other issues that we had run into with light fixtures and an outlet, which weren't working. When things were getting a bit behind, another person showed up and helped to get the work done on time and in one day! Everything else was installed, cleaned up, and working perfectly. Very happy with the work and would definitely do business with them again.

Was not at the house for most of the work completed. The handyman was very nice though and worked with my father who has difficulty hearing. He fixed everything on the list and he ended up reinforcing a mirror in the bathroom that was starting to fall that was not on the list. Left some wood chips though around the door leading to the garage so there was some cleanup to be done.

From start to finish every thing was excellent. After I called for an estimate,Mr. Dan Landon came to the house to see what needed to be done. He came back a few days later with an estimate. There were a few things on the drawings that had to be "tweaked" and he took all of the info with him and came back a few days with an update. After a thorough explanation of what was to be done, explanation of monetary procedures and an estimated start date a contract was signed. Mike and John were the two men who performed the renovation. I can sum up their work with two words. "Total Professionals". They were always on time and if they were delayed they always called and let me know when they would be coming. They always went about their work in a professional manner and during the course of the renovation if something up came they were not sure about they would always talk to me about it before proceeding. On more than one occasion Mr. Landon would stop by to see how things were progressing and would always ask if I was satisfied with what was being done. The job was completed on time and everything was just as it was supposed to be. After the project was complete, Mr. Landon came by to make sure everything was satisfactory. He also asked me why I chose him instead of somebody else. I told him of all the other estimates I received were mailed to me with no follow up. He was the only one that came to the house with the estimate and then came back to answer my questions and get my input. That showed me he cared and that is why he got the job. Mr. Landon and the gentlemen who completed the renovation were professional from start to finish.

From the estimate through the work, they were professional and responsive. Rain delayed the start of their work, but I was kept up to date on their expected start time via email. They were able to fill in areas between bricks where mortar had worked its way out in the last 98 years. They completed the work in half a day. They matched the color of my mortar. I would recommend them to my friends and family.
Description of Work: Tuck pointing my 98 year old house.
