Higham Construction

We were in need of finishing the last portion of our basement so that my mother-in-law could move in with us. After a number of ridiculous quotes from various contractors, we were VERY fortunate to come across Bill Higham and Higham Construction. From my first conversation with Bill, I felt like I had known him for years. Not only is Bill an upfront, professional and knowledgeable person but the manner in which he treats the customer is that of how you would imagine he treats his friends. My wife and I felt very comfortable with every phase of our dealing with Bill. Bill's quote was extremely competitive so we hired him right away. I think the process from start to finish took 3 weeks and every step of the way there was digital communication and a very flexible approach to meet our timeline and our unpredictable schedule. The finished product was done so well we now feel like we need to hire Bill to re-finish the rest of our basement so that it matches the quality of workmanship that Higham Construction performed.

we called to talk about a few minor maintenance /repair items. Bill was very responsive to our call. He came out very soon after the call to look over the work and make suggestions on how he would do the work. He is very knowledgeable and professional. we made an appointment for about a week later. He called to confirm when he was coming. He showed up promptly when he said he would. He had all the necessary materials and tools with him when he came. He removed old caulking from around the tub,and recaulked it. When we originally met, we asked if the caulking would leave an odor in the bathroom. He went above the call of duty and brought a low odor caulk -- which showed us he was very attentive to details. We also had a rafter in the attic that had a longitudinal crack in it. Bill reinforced the area with wood in a very professional manner. He cleaned up after himself and did not leave any mess. The price was very fair.

They did not make "plans" but instead constructed a rough sketch. The estimate was too high so we decided not to get the deck done.

From the start of planning to the final cleaning of the finished product, Bill Higham was actively involved in the construction of our new deck. Since we were planning a relatively large project, we consulted Angie's List and saw that Bill had received many superlative ratings. Bill listened to what we wanted, was flexible with materials and plans, and was always pleasant. He was honest and forthright if there were to be any delays for materials, better design options, or conflict of schedules. The other carpenters, guys that Bill has known for years, worked consistently for weeks, with the project completed with few delays. If we had any questions about the progress of the deck, he quickly responded. We would definitely hire him again for another project.

My experience with Bill HIgham Construction did not work out satisfactorily. I did meet with Bill and our project was pretty extensive. He had a personal situation that delayed his response. However, it took longer than what he had rescheduled and indicated that there would not be a complete set of plans as the "Deal" had stated, but would drop off some pictures from a manufacturer's brochure. At that point, (another 3weeks) and the summer upon us, I cancelled and said I would have to look elsewhere. I never heard back from him and I never was refunded the charge I had paid for the Deal, which I had requested. So I was disappointed in the experience with Higham Construction as well as the Angie's List "Deal" offer which was never refunded!

I thoroughly enjoyed working with this Mr. Higham. He is a very busy man, but that did not bother me. I would recommend that if someone is in a hurry to get a job started and finished, simply let him know. I wasn't in that position, so the fact we kept missing each other was fine. Indeed, because of my schedule, it was several weeks before I responded to him. He then responded back within a week and we finally connected. Although I elected to hold on this project, I believe Mr. Higham would take good care of his clients.

I had Higham constuct an Ipe wood deck on the back of our home. Although Bill rarely worked with Ipe he was very enthusiatic about the oportunity. He came to the house mutilple time to discuss the project and spent much time reviewing the dos and don't if workig with Ipe. He was able to go to a hardwood website to compare cost with his supplier. He determined the cost would be much cheaper if we dealt with the online supplier. Bill determined the amount of supplies and I ordered directly through the website to eliminate any middle men, then we had the wood delivered. Bill even came to help unload the wood. With the high cost of the Ipe wood it was crucial not to over buy and to limit any waste during the constuction process. Bill was there everyday of the project to make sure there was no waste and the job was completed up to his standards. I had asked to have all fasteners hidden and Bill was willing to do this. Even though the deck was 30" off the ground Bill and his crew laid on their backs to screw the decking to the Shadoe track I had request them use. Any areas that needed to be face screwed were then plugged and sanded. When all was finished we were left with 5 spindles and 12' pc of Ipe. Overall a great job in determining the amount of supplies. The deck turned out beautiful and I would definitely use Higham Constuction again.

Bill from Higham construction was extremely responsive from quote to final walk thru. Bill came out very promptly after we called his office. He was very honest and extremely competitive with his quote. He came up with a very solid contract and delivered on it. He kept me informed every day about the progress. He and his carpenters were very polite and professional. Bill solved a big problem on the demolition of the existing patio and delivered a great result. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and quality of material on the deck Higham construction built is excellent. I am proud to have this deck attached to my dream home!

It was wonderful. I think Bill was extremely professional and he worked really hard. He was easy to work with and he valued us as partners through the whole project. We sat down and talked to him about the project and told him what we had in mind and he gave us suggestions; we came to a consensus on what was going to be done. Bill was always at our house 15-30 minutes before the work began. I had high regards for his crew; the people that worked for him were always very punctual, professional and a pleasure to work with. I felt comfortable having them in my backyard. The quality of the deck is wonderful. It was a pleasure working with him and I highly recommend him to anybody without any reservations.

I cannot reccommend Bill enough. He was responsive in coming out and working up an initial proposal. Very easy to work with on encore orating our desires into the design, the cost was for a large deck 17 by 18 feet, and we added use of Aztec decking with a 2 color contrasting pattern with angled boards which added about 30% onto cost of deck. He came out and worked exactly when he promised, completed every detail with precision, suggested appropriate modifications and worked ours into design. The deck is perfect. Plan on using him again for future work !

I contacted Bill to talk about an entry door project I needed done in a tight time frame. I had seen the reviews here and checked out his website, and figured this was a good person to start with. Turned out that I didn't need to speak to anyone else! Bill answered his own phone and spent 15 minutes talking doors with me -- very educational -- and we set up a time to meet at the house. We decided to supply our own doors, and he provided us with exact measurements and other details so that we were sure to get the right one. His two guys that showed up to do the actual work were real pros. Our project ended up throwing them a curveball or two, and they knocked it out of the park. Respectful, on time and very detail oriented. We plan on using Higham on other projects in the near future.

in a word it went perfectly. The Pergola system that I chose was an internet product that had no field support. Bill Higham of Higham construction took the ball and ran with it. He worked closely with the company to make sure that the measurements were exactly what he needed to make the project a success. Once the pergola was taken care of and ordered Bill and his crew were on time and incredibly professional. Bill's communication with me throughout the entire process was really refreshing. He would give me a recap of what they did and what the next day or two would entail. Everything went without a hitch and they completed my project perfectly and within a reasonable amount of time. They were a very professional bunch that cleaned up their work area after every session and they tried to be as unnoticeable as possible. Higham Construction is a highly skilled professional craftsman that I would reccomend to anyone.

At first it went excellent, until the "product" installed started to turn white in some spots, within several days of completion. He did not seem to stand behind the product he installed. We had to contact the Timbertech manufacturer ourselves which in itself has been a problem. They will be coming out to try to clean it, however, I don't think this is a "cleaning" issue. Timbertech was unresponsive until we told them we would go to the media with this situation. What a shame that a company with a written guarantee does not stand behind it.

We had worked with Bill last fall when he did a deck for us. I was impressed with the work he did and even the people I hired to later stain the deck commented on several of the nice touches. So we felt confident in hiring him to do the basement. It was a largish build although fairly straight forward. We had the section of the basement with the utilities walled off with a double door and created a large closet for storage and another under the stairs. He also built storage shelving all along the utility room. We didn't add any heating registers but he did wire for them in case we decide to add in the future. He ran a few cable outlets and lighting running on a few switches. As our basement is a decent height we had him drywall the ceiling as well. Everything looks good. We had him and/or the drywall people in and out of the house over the two weeks and everyone was very thoughtful. If I had anything left to do to the house I would use him again.

The project was extremely easy because Bill Higham did everything he promised and when promised. Bill gave me a written extimate for the project telling me that it would take approximately 2 weeks to get the material. After I accepted the contract it was almost exactly 2 weeks when Bill called and schedlued the installation date. The project took 1 day and was completed as promised. All old material was removed from our property. Everything was left as if no one had been there except for the excellant work that was done on the deck.

We hired Billl to replace baseboard and put up crown molding on more than one occasion in our home. We were so happy with his work, attitude and professionalism that we knew we would continue to use Bill. We hired him to put up crown molding in my father's section of the house. We purchased and painted the crown molding and then waited and waited to hear from Bill. I contacted him several times by phone, and email and so did my husband and my father with no response. I thought maybe we had done something to upset him or offend him and sent him a message asking if that was the case. He finally repsonded and said that he had an illness in the family (I won't go into details) and other personal problems. That we did nothing wrong. I was completely understanding. He offered to do my father's crown molding for free and I said absolutely not. I asked Bill to take care of the issues he was having and to stay in touch and let me know when he could be out to do the crown. Aproximately two weeks passed and I did not hear from Bill so I emailed and no response, called no response. After viewing him on Angie's list I noticed that he had a great review and the completion of a job in the same time frame that I was calling and emailing him and in the same time frame that he told me he was having issues at home. I feel that Bill may have been deceitful because he had a much larger job to complete. I called and left him yet another message stating the fact that I saw he was still in fact working and was soooooo disappointed to have been duped and treated in such a non-professional manner. I told him that if I did not hear from him I would post a negative review on Angie's List, so here I am. This is what Angie's List is for. We thought we had a gem in Bill and was looking forward to having him do many more projects around our home. We are now back to square one with painted crown molding laying on our garage floor as we are again looking for a contractor to put it up.

We are extremely pleased with the results. Bill was friendly and easy to work with. We changed our minds several times on one or two points right up until build time and Bill was always flexible. Bill also suggested some additional work to our existing deck. It was a minor cosmetic change, not pricey at all, and we're really happy that he did. Lastly, Bill's price was competitive with or below all the other deck contractor's we contacted.

Tremendous experience!! Provided numerous suggestions for the design of the deck including size, levels, access steps, lighting and railing options. Always on time as promised during several installation days. Outstanding quality of construction from start to finish including cleanup and removeal of debris. Very polite, courteous and professional (all employees). Did not try to "upsell" but provided great ideas for the depth of the deck that worked out perfectly. Bill Higham stands by his word and does what he says he will do. His final price was exactly what he quoted and any changes we asked for were verified immediately and in writing.

Everything was great. Bill was a pleasure to work with. He is easy to talk to and understand what he is saying. We were starting with a completely new deck design. Bill had the drawings I had made, and generated a computer image. He made sure to have an understanding of how I wanted the deck to look before getting started. Bill kept me updated every day via email, so I knew what had been done and what would follow. Bill is meticulous and conscientious, and when minor unexpected things came up, he made sure to let me know and took care of them. I am confident I have a solid deck that will last quite a long time. And it came out exactly how I had imagined it. I appreciate all of the time Bill took to talk with me, and keep me informed. And I feel even better that I know he will check back with me in the spring to make sure everything is working out as I had planned.

Bill Higham gets an A+++. He is professional, courteous, respectful, has a very high degree of integrety and is always on time. We had been waiting a long time to finally be able to replace a window and put a back door on the house and have a deck so we could enjoy our backyard wildlife habitat. We had 4 quotes. Price was not the deciding factor (we had lower and higher). We chose Bill Higham because of his knowlege, willingness to be flexible and extremely courteous attitude and concern for detail. He just gave us a feeling of confidence. We went into this with an idea of what we wanted, but no clue how to design a deck. Bill did a wonderful job of making suggestions to make it the most use of space, but he never tried to talk us into anything. He made his recommendations only. He took our general plan, did a drawing and submitted a quote. He worked with us as we made a few adjustments along the way. It turned out we used some of his suggestions and are very glad we did. He knows his trade. When he showed up on the first day of the job EXACTLY on time I knew this was going to go well. Contractors are notorious for keeping people waiting. Bill also gets A+ for communication. I always knew exactly where we were on the job and what was next. The finished door and deck are a wonderful addition to our home and I am sure raised the value. Everything is done with attention to detail and perfection. And I still have my beautiful oak tree incorporated as part of my deck.

Everything went well, he got the job done and passed the inspection. The porches look Great!

Great experience! This was my first house after living in the city for 20 years. Wasn't sure what to do or ask. I got several quotes and Bill was my first. His quote wasn't the lowest, but the quality of the work and the extras he did on the deck more than made up for the small difference in price. Everything was on time and the work schedule was well communicated. We've gotten compliments on the deck already. As this is a newer subdivision many people put in their decks when the house was being built and cut corners to save cash. I'm glad I waited and did it right. We are looking to do the basement next and I will definately use Bill again.

We are very happy with Bills work and will continue to use his services around the house. We are planning a front porch in the spring and will hire him to do that. Excellent person to deal with all the way around.
