We could not be happier with the work Rob and Eric and their crew did at our home. We installed terraced gardens on a hilly part of our property. We wanted 2 sets of concrete steps down the sides of the garden and a walkway across the bottom. In spite of being a difficult area to work in, they were very pleasant and professional and the price was so reasonable. The end result is stunning. They were recommended by friends of ours and we will be using them again for any concrete projects we have.

Ron Tarro was very helpful in my selection of the color,design of the stamp and the area I wanted done. He provided a great quote for the job. Other companies that came out for estimates were quoting up to $2300 more. The foreman kept me up to date on the job progress which took a total of 3 days. The crew was professional and did a great job. I highly recommend this company.

Rob arrived on a Friday to form my patio.he was supposed to meet me at 8:30 am to go over the stamp design he was a no show.i explained to his crew that there would be culture stone installed to the existing masonry foundation,and piers after the floor was pored. therefor the form would have to brought out to accommodate a standard drip edge.that did not happen.the next day he brought in weekend warriors to poor the slab and left a 1" hump in the floor that looks terrible.they not only did not bring the form out far enough they also did not set the form high enough on one end of the patio leaving the concrete at only 2 1/2" thick.the only way to fix it is to tear out and redo.Rob offered me $2000.00 refund on the $4000.00 i paid him That was not acceptable because because i am still out $2000.00 plus the cost of tear out $1000.00.He then offered to come back and re poor as long as i pay to tear out his mistake.that is not going to happen because i already know the what kind of work he does. now i have to take him to court.

I reached out to 1st Impressions in early March about an estimate for a patio, fire pit area, and possibly expanding my driveway. I was surprised to receive a response so quickly, and even more surprised that Rob would be out that Saturday to measure. It should be noted that Rob's estimates are FREE. He also does not pressure into accepting his offer right then and there. Rob is very knowledgeable and helpful. I had a design for the patio already drawn up and he helped me visualize it and added his own insights, especially about expanding the driveway. Like clockwork, five weeks later, Rob called and asked if we were ready for install. The work crew came the next day to start work. Eric and the crew were very professional and really took pride in their work. They made us feel like we were the most important customer they had. They excavated, set the forms, in one day. Unfortunately, it rained for two days after that. So we had to wait for the ground to dry out. As soon as it was dry they were back, poured and stamped. They came back the next day, cut the stress reliefs, washed and sealed the concrete. If it hadn't of rained, they would have been done in under 3 days. Still, it took less than a week from start to finish. They really are a great company with awesome professionals that deliver a superior product. I wish all contractors were this good and stood by their work like Rob and Eric.

It did not go well. First, when you call 1st impressions...if you speak to a guy named Brian, he will tell you he can do this job on the side. This happened to both myself and someone else, who actually passed his name on to me, but not before the work he requested was complete (so had I known how horrible my friend's experience would be, I certainly would have never called Brian). As it stands, neither of our patios were done well. My friend and his son had to finish their patio on their own. I had to get someone else to do mine since whatever Brian did bubbled up the same night he did it (he was in a rush to get his money and did it in the rain). After that, I requested the remainder of the product he purchased with my money so I could do it myself...never got that either. Down payment was $200 of a $420 total, will never do that again without something written down. I never paid balance, but was still left right where I started. Also, patio area is small, maybe 10x10. Just an overall horrible experience. I called the company back to speak to Rob Tarro (owner) to see if there was anything he could do. He informed me that the company focuses on new installs, not maintenance and repair, which is why he lets Brian take these calls. Just wanted others to be aware of this.

"I can't even believe someone would be mean spirited enough to try and injure my business when all I did as a business owner was try and help! This customer even states in this review that I made it clear that I would hook her up with my laborer (Brian) but it would be her deal with him on the side and 1st Impressions would not be involved. As a general rule, we at 1st Impressions make it our policy to steer clear of performing maintenance on (resealing) other contractors work, as we have no idea what cheap products may have been used at the time of installation. If the contractor that installed the patio originally used a substandard sealer there could be a whole host of reactions, many of them negative, that can occur. If it is one of our patios I am more than happy to provide resealing, but when it's someone else's work, I normally give people advice on some things they can try themselves. Just in the last couple of years my laborer (Brian) offered to do some of the resealing on the side so I started having him call on some of these inquiries. THIS CUSTOMER'S ISSUE IS WITH BRIAN but in Brian's defense he went back to try and satisfy this customer several times and in the end was still paid just over $200.00. The price of the material he used is approximately $180.00. Just not sure what else to say about this except that we at 1st Impressions take great pride in our work and it's simply not fair for this person to try and resolve their issue by attacking my livelihood. This was a great experience from start to finish. Rob made suggestions regarding color and stamp design that turned out to be better that we'd hoped. With the new design we gained square footage for a more functional patio - and it looks great!
The crew was very professional. They arrived on time, worked hard, and cleaned up at the end of each day. The days were extremely hot and uncomfortable, but they did an incredible job. Rob even came by on a Sunday to wash down the patio, and make sure we were happy with the results.
The job was completed on time and within our estimate - we would definitely recommend 1st Impressions.

From the initial consultation, we knew that Rob was our guy. He was so knowledgeable, approachable and gave very honest recommendations and feedback to the plan my wife and I envisioned. He made some tweaks and gave us a recommended layout that would be both functional and visually appealing. Both Rob and the foreman for the job, Eric, were responsive and kept us updated throughout the process. Naturally, the weird weather of this fall caused some delays, but Rob kept us informed and worked incredibly hard to finish our job before the end of the season.
We ended up with a 550 square foot (plus or minus), two tiered patio that is visual appealing, functional, and done with the highest care and quality. Our job was particularly complex with the different elevations of our backyard, but Rob knew exactly what to do. I couldn't say enough good things about 1st Impressions and would recommend them to anyone in need of an honest, trustworthy concrete company.

This was a very big job for us and we were quite impressed with the way it went. They offered design suggestions that worked much better for us than our original plan. They were okay. They were professional. We decided not to use them because we thought of the things that would happen if you took off the deck and went to a patio. There are a lot of things that after we thought about it were not worth it so we decided not to do the project.

I utilized 1st impressions concrete as the initial estimate for my patio job with retaining wall. Therefore this review will contain information for both. Rob from 1st impressions uses Ohio State Landscaping to perform block and wall work while Rob completes the concrete portions. First and foremost I have to thank Rob for coming up with such a great plan. He gave us suggestions that I could not be happier with. Now the job is done and looks absolutely amazing. Eric and crew attention to detail is top notch. Eric incorporated a central drain in the patio for water runoff that ties into my storm drain and added another drain at the fire pit due to the sloping of my yard. The stamping and color combination look amazing with the natural stone colors of the block walls. The columns and lights were the perfect finish to a great patio space that is about 750 sq ft.

Rob and his crew did a great job. The estimation process was smooth. He provided recommendations on base and highlight colors to best match our house. The job was done in 2 days with an additional morning for sealing. The steps look great and make going up and down our yard so much easier. Wish we had done it before.

After a little slow start, not Rob's fault, have to chaulk it up to mother nature and a very wet May/June. Rob and his team had the patio and walks formed in two days and poured on the third. This was our first time using 1st Impressions and had never had stamped concrete. Their insight was welcome and I adopted many of their suggestions into our design. These guys are a class act and very professional. Once we had a break in the weather, there were complete (sealing and cutting) on the fourth day. The removed their garbage, cleaned up - that's it. Rob is easy to get ahold of and is a rare bird in todays contractor market - he does what he says. I have another project that I will use them for next spring.

Rob and his team performed an excellent job on my concrete project from the planning and design to the finished product. My project was a very large complex project and involved removing old concrete from around my pool. We ran into many unforeseen obstacles, but Rob and his guys helped come up with creative solutions to these complications and the end product actually turned out better than expected. Rob and the guys went the extra mile on several items and paid attention to little details and made suggestions that enhanced the overall project. I especially like the stamped patio section and the brick boarder around the perimeter (which was Rob’s suggestion). I will not hesitate to use 1st Impression for any future concrete work.

When Rob first came out, he was extremely professional - had a portfolio detailing previous projects. What impressed me the most was that he was in the pictures working his tail off. His price was middle of the group, and the quality he displayed in the pictures had us select him for the job. They were pretty booked up and took an extra couple weeks to come out from our original schedule date, but when they did, the crew knocked things out quickly. No complaints there! However, there were issues with the quality: >> Rear Patio: the swirl marks along the edges were not uniform, and stood out as being done too quickly or with little thought applied. Also, the young crew member that came on the last day to seal the patio left streaks of the sealer that embedded dark stains/lines from the roller. I contacted Rob, he came out to see it, and stated "The swirls are just how it had to be done, and the stains from the sealer will disappear in a matter of months to a year". Well guess what - the stains to this day (2.5 years later) have not disappeared. I called Rob twice to come out and see the issue, but he never showed. It's been embarrassing when guests at my house pointed out the "stains" on the "new" patio. >> Driveway: the sidewalk section of the driveway has begun to pit and chip away. The entire driveway was done using no pattern, but the sidewalk used the swirl pattern. Note: this driveway and that sidewalk have never seen salt - I refuse to damage the driveway with it. After 2.5 years, you wouldn't expect any part of the driveway to start falling apart, especially the entire sidewalk section. I would call Rob, but I doubt he'll show or do anything to fix it. The most frustrating part is that I referred him to others after my job and he did work for them, but couldn't take the time to fix the issues with my project. I know he had a very busy summer that year, but looking back it seems they rushed the job and lowered the quality.

"I am extremely disappointed and amazed to see this report. As a contractor, it has always been my policy to address issues that customers have. When we first installed the member's driveway and patio we sealed it as always. In the first weeks after pouring, the work may show some streaking until all of the moisture bleeds from the concrete. I explained this to the member and he didn't want to hear it, so I sent an employee out to seal it again at a cost to me of around $300.00 - no problem, anything to keep a customer happy. Through experience I knew this would now only aggravate this (what would have been temporary) streaking situation, and I explained this to him. The member was insistent. As far as the drain placement is concerned it is exactly where it needs to be, being that the member's entire driveway pitches to it, and you want all salt coming off of cars in the winter to find their way down it ASAP. The front walk is a real issue and I wouldn't hesitate to address it, 2.5 years later or not, if the member had only called me about it. He never did. I think it interesting however, that the pitting is only in the area in front of the steps where salt would be thrown or pets may urinate in inclement weather. I've built a business on always being attentive to the concerns of customers and I'm sure the others listed here will attest to this. Sometimes however, customers think they can be unreasonable and make unreasonable demands just because they're Angie's List customers. Sometimes the customer thinks they know more than the contractor, and will dictate. This is when the job oftentimes goes sideways. Enough said. If the member wants to address the front sidewalk with me I always answer my phone. We can discuss it as I do anytime a customer has a concern. Sincerely, Rob Tarro."
