Lowe's Air Duct Cleaning

It turned out pretty good. They cleaned my air duct. I was told what they did, I wasn't really there but everything seemed fine. They're good. Pretty punctual and good price.

It turns out that this deal won't solve the problem I am having.

It was a disappointment. This was my first purchase through Angie's List. Since I didn't have time to do my own research to find a company in the area where I recently moved, I thought I could trust AL, because they screen all the companies they do business with. It was either my luck, or I was wrong about the way AL operates. Two people came and checked the house. When discussing the work to be done, I was told that my purchase did not include sanitizing. When I showed the receipt, he still did not believe and called the office to get verification. After it was confirmed, two guys started working in different parts of the house. I couldn't watch both of them, so it is hard to tell whether they cleaned all the elements properly. They checked the furnace and claimed that there was mold in it. They said that it needed to be cleaned, and they could do it for me for $200+. I refused, because I wasn't sure about mold. A meticulous inspector inspected it before I purchased the house 5 months ago. The drainpipe was clogged, so it needed cleaning. The HVAC people came and cleaned the whole thing. Neither the inspector nor the HVAC people mentioned any mold. It's quite possible that mold has been developed since then, but what they showed may or may not be mold. According to EPA, mold cannot be determined without a lab test. They cleaned the returns and the registers, but I am not sure whether all the registers got cleaned. I was in the basement with one of them most of the time, because he was showing me things, such as possible mold in the furnace or before and after views of the return. I only saw the cleaning of living room and the family room registers. When I asked them whether they did the basement bathroom, the one who did the registers was hesitant, but the other one claimed that it was done. I couldn't see any dust or debris in the bathroom, so I am not sure that it was cleaned. They cleaned the registers without removing the covers by simply inserting a thin air blower through the grills. When I asked why they didn't remove the covers, I was told that there is no need for it. I am not sure whether the cleaning methods have changed since my last air duct cleaning, or they didn't do the job properly. Dryer vent cleaning was done from both ends with brush. There was a small birdcage, which was partially clogged with lint, but he claimed that there was a bird nest there. What he showed me did not look like anything but lint. He showed me that it was not screwed into the brick, but was glued on the wall, that's why it was not secure. He mentioned putting a better birdcage to prevent bird nests. Later he brought in a larger birdcage, which can be opened and cleaned from outside. He asked me how much he said it would be when he first mentioned it. I told him that he didn't give me a price. Then he said that it would be $65. When I told him that it was too much, he shrugged his shoulders and went outside saying that it is OK for him to put the old cage back, but it is no good, because I cannot clean it. Then he said it is not just the cage but also his labor is included in the price, and he will be screwing the cage in the wall securely, which is not an easy job. He was already putting the old one in while talking. I had to make a decision, and it was freezing cold outside. I tried to call Alex, the person whom I talked with while making the appointment, but he did not answer the phone. Finally, I said OK and paid $65. Later I checked and saw that this birdcage is even cheaper than I thought; it is about $5. It took him 5 minutes to put it up. So, you do the math... his hourly wage comes to $720. Is this a rip-off or what? When they did the sanitizing, which took no time at all, I asked what chemical they were using. They had no clue. Now, I have no clue what was sprayed into my duct system. I hope it is not something that does more harm than good. I've never seen any maintenance or repairperson leaving without cleaning their mess until this service. Since they did not cover the floors, all the dirt (big pieces of dust and some debris) scattered on the carpet and hardwood floors all over the house. This was bad in the first place, but what was worse, they left without cleaning this mess. I spent two hours vacuuming, sweeping, and washing the floors after they left. This alone is enough not to use their services again.

I have had air duct cleaning done in the past using discount coupons. For this job, I prepaid $175 and knew that I would most likely pay additional amount ofr dryer vent cleaning. The two men who came were very thorough and pointed out the needed repairs in the ducting, especially for the two exhaust fans that vented into the attic. There was a LOT of dust and the system needed a thorough cleaning, especially the exhaust fans. The duct pipe coming out of the dryer was a botched job that barely held together and has now a proper flexible duct that won't come apart when the dryer is moved. Of course, all the extra work didn't come cheap and I spent additional $415. When you don't have handymen living in the house, that's the price you pay.

Great, Bruno was very affable and friendly. He answered all my questions and did a great job in minimal time. Air quality is much improved! He made recommendations that were helpful for furnace maintenance.

The service was good. The big deal was for $169, and there were additional charges as they sanitized the ducts and cleaned up the furnace as well. It was good. A single guy had come out.

They were fabulous. It's my first time using them and it was a great experience. Bruno was extremely thorough. He explained everything and educated us on different things that we should do. It was just really a fabulous experience. When he came here, he looked at our furnace and he said that he would recommend that we get that done. It would be an extra $120. Then he called his manager because I've mentioned that I work for Angie's List and he gave me 40% off. That was an additional $72. They were extremely reasonable. They did just a great job. They didn't come in and charge all sorts of additional fees. It was a great value at $269. In the past they tried to charge another $800 to also include the furnace. Based on my first experience, we basically threw the guy out because they were just trying to charge us a lot more every step of the way. He came in, did everything and even at $120, I would have totally gotten it. It was again, very reasonable. He was very efficient and explained everything. I will absolutely use them again.

Very professional Punctual Took about 2.5 hours.

We purchased a special on Angie's List for a dryer vent cleaning from Lowe's. Within a few days we received a call from Alex who arranged a time for the service. I expected it would be several weeks before they had an opening, but was pleasantly surprised when Alex offered a time within a week. The day of the service the technician called in advance and arrived promptly. Our dryer is on the third floor and vents straight up out the roof. The technician went into the attic (unfinished), disassembled the dryer vent duct work, and cleaned it from inside the attic while the dryer was running. After cleaning the vent, we asked whether he had seen a lot of lint. He commented that the vent flap to outside had the most lint on it, but that he had cleared it all away. When asked he recommended we have the vent cleaned every year or two depending on how often we use the dryer. We could see he had completed the work with the amount of lint on his clothing. There was no lint on the roof and he cleaned his work area very well. The technician was very pleasant and answered our questions. Later we checked the attic and noticed that the technician had had to remove the fiberglass blanket insulation from around the dryer vent duct in order to clean it, but failed to re-attach it leaving the duct fully exposed. We had to run to the hardware store for foil tape to re-cover and seal the insulation on the vent duct. This was a surprise and our only concern, as we expected the resealing to be part of the service. We would use Lowe's again, but would discuss and ensure a more thorough inspection after the work is completed.

Okay. No work was performed. Not enough room for equipment.

The work went great. I was very pleased. They were courteous and prompt. I was happy with them.

The service was okay. He was late, but other than that it was fine. There were no additional charges besides the $99 of the big deal. I would recommend him. I think he got a lot of crap out of my ducts. I had a bought the house a year prior to that, and I was having heating and air conditioning air flow issues, so I decided to get them cleaned and see if that was the issue. I noticed a difference after the cleaning. They didn't give me a courtesy phone call to say that they would be late. The price of $99 for the whole house was pretty cheap.

I paid an additional $500. I would definitely recommend it, the guy was really nice. I didn't feel like he was trying to get money out of me. They had Saturday scheduling, so that was great.

The provider came out today to do the job and discovered that there isn't enough room around the system to give access to the ducts so he would not be able to perform the cleaning. He advised to contact Angie's List in order to get a refund of the Big Deal which I have done.

I just bought a new house and wanted to be sure the vent to the dryer were clean. Apparently, they hadn't been cleaned out in about 5 years so I was very glad to get it done. The technician did a wonderful job and I highly recommend the service.

Bruno was so knowledgable, helpful, and professional. He spent time to explain the work he did at each step. He answered all our questions in detail. He showed us the before and after conditions of the air ducts and vents. He even gave advice on how we could replace laundry vent on our own. He vacuumed all floors and areas around vents after he was complete with the work. Bruno is great!!

The technician was very prompt, friendly and professional. We'd never had our air ducts or vents cleaned before, so we have no frame of reference, but we were surprised that the mode of cleaning each vent (along with the giant vacuum attached to our furnace) was to apply compressed air into each vent and our bathroom exhaust fans. This may have been effective in forcing some of the dirt towards the giant vacuum, but much of the dirt blew out into each room. After the work was done, we needed to launder all of our bedding, clean all of our rugs and floors, and dust every surface in our home. As I mentioned above, we'd never had this type of work done before, so possibly this is what we should have expected? We didn't contact Lowe's to complain because we felt that if this is the technique that they always use, there wasn't likely anything they could have done to improve the situation.

It was a disaster. They came here and they had four stars on Angie's List. When he cleaned he brought a big machine in the house and the filter didn't seem to be very clean. All the dust it was pulling in from the ducts, it was letting out from the back of the machine. I called them back and they ended up giving me the money back. I wouldn't hire them at all. It's kind of strange because I was expecting that they knew because they had such a good rating at what they were doing. They just had the dust in the house instead of outside. It was a bad experience and I'm asthmatic so I'm bound to get the house cleaned. I had to wash the walls with vinegar in the water. It was horrible. Their price was reasonable. The quality was terrible and it was worst it can get. They came back the next day and I showed them the dust. They returned the money but they didn't clean the house once it was already dirty. They came back and gave us the money which was okay but then they left the house full of dust. I don't want to do anything to deal with them anymore. I don't want to hear from them or anything. I want them out and don't want to be bothered by them. I don't want any contact with them or anything to do with them.

Both gentlemen were very professional and focused, arriving at the appointed time and calling beforehand (twice) to confirm. The vacuum tripped the circuit breaker (even my vacuum trips it so that was not unexpected) and they were able to reset it in seconds. They returned everything to a pristine state. No drama. I will call them again in 2 years. They deliver as advertised.

When the man arrived, he told me that the coupon was only worth 1 system and we have a 3 zone home. We agreed to have him do all 3 systems because we wanted to see if it helped our allergies. He worked for several hours and kept telling me he would do "extra" for no cost such as the dryer vent, although the rate kept also going up with each additional thing he suggested doing. We had just moved into the home and clearly the system had never been cleaned. Our allergies do seem to be better, especially at night. The cost was a surprise since it turned out to be many hundred's of dollars more than we expected. The coupon was for $169.

He immediately went to work cleaning our air ducts from the top floor down. He noticed that our ducts had not been cleaned in a long time and that this can have negative effect on air quality, especially in our house where our children have breathing issues. We were impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. He left and charged nothing extra for the services. We would definitely use them again.

Good service for the price. I would use again!

Bruno arrived on time and was extremely professional throughout the process. He explained to me what he was going to do and how he would do it and then periodically would ask me to come and inspect what he was doing, what he had found, etc. The work was done on time. I recommend Lowe's and Bruno to anyone!
