I will be honest , we were scared when we bought our new house . This was a whole new experiance . In the past I had always bought some pizza and had my buddies come with trucks and move my stuff . I guess now that I bought a house it was time to hire a pro. I looked around and price shopped . I found Lewis and Michael moving and storage in google and I had them give me an estimate. I had a few companies give me estimates , but the experience with Mark Fussnecker (I hope I spelled that right) was great . He was very informative . Mark gave me all my options . He told me about multiple programs that Lewis and Michael had and the best fit for me .
See I am newly married , so my wife and I wanted to get a good deal without having to have all her brothers come help us move. Once Mark gave us an estimate my wife and I felt much better. I was not near as stressed out . We set a plan and Mark really came through for us .
On moving day it was easy. My wife and I just packed a few personal things and Lewis and Michael Moving and Storage did the rest. The moving staff was very nice and professional . I was surprised at how many years with the company the employees had . Most had been with the company for more than 10 years
We only moved across town but if I ever(God forbid) have to move again I know who I will call . Lewis and Michael Moving and Storage was great. Mark was top notch . I will definitely recommend to my friends . .

The crew showed up at forecast time on packing day. Dwight was the crew chief and he had two young guys named Mike helping. They spent the day packing all the breakables. They were careful, efficient, and effective in packing everything. They arrived on time on moving day got everything onto the truck all items got a numbered tag and logged. They did a great job on challenging items such as a queen bed and headboard and an oversized desk. They subcontracted with a crating company that nicely crated two highly fragile items - a custom piece of marble that came from the demo of the Riebold Building in downtown Dayton and my framed, autographed jersey of Jim Brown. They did do a little damage to the hardwood floor and I will likely file a claim for that. The same crew showed up at our new home in Charleston SC on time and efficiently brought everything into the new house, checking off each numbered item and putting it where we wanted. Th uncraters showed up a few days later and effectively uncreated the two items.
As we unpacked all the boxes, we found no damage or breakage of anything.
The only issues we experienced in the whole move was Dwight's crew accidentally packed and moved a Time Warner cable box and a wooden linen chest that was supposed to stay with the house. We realized they packed the cable box on the day of the move, but by then it wa buried so deep in the truck that it could not be retrieved. We didn't realized they moved the chest until we did a walk through with the new owner two days after the move and she pointed out the chest was gone. Th company took care of returning the cable box to Time Warner and Dwight personally returned the chest in a timely way to the new owner.

Initially, everything went smoothly. I met with the Lewis and Michael representative. We did a walk through of the home. During this time I identified and expressed my concerns regarding several items of specific furniture . For example...one particular item that was discussed in detail was a 'one of a kind' oak mantle that dated back to the 1800s'. I explained in detail as to how the mantle had been prepared for safe keeping before shipping (prior to my last move). I told him that ‘Bekins’ had sent a carpenter to build a crate enclosing the fragile mantle. I inquired about having this done several times. Each time the representative did not feel any concern and stated that a crate would not be necessary for this move.
After the walk through, we had a lengthy discussion during which time I inquired about adding additional insurance. After I was given the information pertaining to the details of additional insurance, including cost, I opted to purchase the additional insurance that would be sufficient in the event of unforeseen damage.
Soon after items were identified as damaged I contacted my rep and was sent a claim form. He told me to take care in filling out the form completely and include all damage. Furthermore he mentioned I should take a little extra time to make sure I didn’t miss any other damage before submitting my claim.
After going through the claim process, including having photos taken, I was sent a note that said my claim had been denied. I was then directed to contact the owner of the business to dispute the denied claim. I sent a letter to Mr. Lewis explaining the issues at hand in huge detail. At first, Mr. Lewis was great about communicating with me. Then, and without explanation, communication came to an abrupt end.
I love my things and would never want something to happen to them. I took every opportunity to let Mr. Lewis know I would work with him in order to come to an agreement. Because I was willing to pay the extra to have things crated for the move...and took the precaution of taking out additional insurance I felt I was being responsible in doing everything right...I had no idea that I would be treated in this manner.
I do not believe that the damage was caused by negligence or incompetency. Most of the damage our furniture incurred during the move is not typical for modern day furniture…the type of damage that happened was due to the fragile nature of the older pieces. And yes, should have been crated in the first place.

As an overview:
The Lewis and Michael moving crew that worked on our move is not the issue, accidents happen. I am not angry with the representative; he provided me with great customer service. As a matter of fact, the front office staff did a fine job and were always available for me.
My ratings of this company reflect the unprofessional way this situation is being treated, (or not treated), by management. I am still shocked about the lack of concern they display for a customer in need of assistance. I still cannot believe that no one has even phoned me.

Response from Lewis & Michael Inc.

"Lewis and Michael would like to extend the opportunity to have a mediator review and rule on this matter. We would also like to extend the option for us to send a repair person out to inspect the damage. We denied the claim in the past because (member name removed) signed the Bill of Lading and it stated "Received all goods, no damage."

The Lewis and Michael people were great, start to finish. We had a different driver and crew for loading in OH and delivery in NC. They were all polite, professional, knowledgeable and efficient. The only breakage was a single drinking glass. They always called ahead to let us know what was happening where and when, and then were very punctual in showing up as promised. They surprised us only once by doing the packing and loading in one day instead of the prearranged one and a half days, but they were very accommodative by loading while we finished the last of our packing. Land M is a terrific company to use if you are moving a car that doesn't run. They arranged for a tow service at each end of the move to get the car off the ground and into to the moving van and vice versa.
A flawless move executed at a very reasonable price by a top notch bunch of folks. We would use them again in a heartbeat and would confidently recommended them to family and friends.

The estimator was way off. His estimate came in over $2,000 less than the actual cost of the move. The company sub contracts out the actual movers, which resulted in a bad experience. They moved items that I had requested not be moved, such as an antique grandfather clock which I have since had to spend $150 to repair. My furniture and countless other items were scratched up. They even lost my aquarium filter. It was a total nightmare. I would never use this company again.

I was not real happy with this company. When I ordered the service, I was told it would be a local person when in return it was not. They had hired someone from another state to do the moving. There was nothing damaged during the moved but I felt that their price was high and the moving was inconsistent with what I had ordered.

It went very well. They were 2 hours late, but very apologetic. They handled the items with care and even moved 2 extra items in the house to the basement that weren't in the original price estimate. Nothing was broken or scratched. They were very courteous and helped us move a few things around. We had a couch we were moving downstairs that wouldn't fit. We made the decision to throw it away. They suggested that a company they share a parking lot with sells donated couches to help the vets. They offered to haul it for free.

They packed the pictures in a lot of mirror boxes. I packed everything else. They were on time, courteous, keep in constant contact. Checked off all the boxes that were supposed to be checked off. Very pleased with their service! The price was very reasonable!

THEY DID WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO. I WAS PLEASED WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY DID NOT RUIN OR BREAK ANYTHING AND I GUESS YOU CANNOT ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE THAN THAT. THEY DID IT QUICKLY AND WE DID NOT HAVE TO WORRY.
