One Thursday our hot water heater suddenly stopped working. Called my Home Warranty company, and as usual they referred me to their participating provider who did not have any opening till the following Monday. They refused to provide an alternate provider, so I started calling other plumbers from Angie's List and leaving messages. Greg (if I recall the name correct) from Plumbing Source called me back right away, and by next day morning I had their technician, Mario, in the house. He was very friendly and professional, explained the range of things that could have failed to cause the issue, and eventually diagnosed the immediate cause to be the thermocouple which needed to be replaced. He was also kind enough to offer to speak with my home warranty company in case they would reimburse me for part of the cost, though I could never reach them until long after Mario had left. He replaced the thermocouple, and tested everything was working OK and left me with his contact information before leaving. Overall, very pleased with the prompt, courteous, quality service, even though I ended up paying lot more than what my warranty company covered, which was just $30 (which I am still waiting for) after $50 deductible.

I am having a hard time with this review. Did they come out on time? Yes. Were the guys professional? Yes. Did I feel they came prepared? No. Did they get to the problem? Part of it, maybe not all of it - not sure. What is my issue? When I called them a week & a half earlier to set up an appointment I explained that my basement was flooding in the heavy rains we've been getting and I felt it may be caused by clogs in my sewer line. I do have a pool and a Diatomaceous Earth filter that I have cleaned in the driveway. I felt I may have silt buildup because of the DE that has been in the drain. I asked if they were bringing an auger, camera and high pressure water jetter. They said they would bring all three. When my technician showed up with the big box truck, the only tool he came with was an auger. They didn't bring the camera or the pressure hoses, like I asked them to bring. I felt that they were ill prepared. He was able to remove 6 feet of a very messy 4 inch thick root system, which did allow for water to now flow through the pipe, which I am very thankful for. However, the tech said he couldn't make the bend in the pipes, which probably means he didn't get all of the problem. They did have someone come out to deliver a camera later, but we couldn't get it into the bend to see if there was any additional blockage. I am not sure if they even got to the backyard to see if there was a silt issue. When I asked for options, the only option I was given was an estimate to dig up all my existing pipes. When I asked questions, like "should I get some root killer or Root X" the technicians gave "maybe" answers. I felt like I was providing possible solutions to problems they encountered instead of the other way around. I'd give these guys a C- rating. Did they get some of the problem solved? Yes. Did they get all of it? Probably not. Could they have done more? I'm not sure. I spent 600 bucks for 3.5 hours of service, but I don't think we are 100% clear in the pipes. I did go out and get a 2 lb package of R-D Root Destroyer, which I am hoping helps prevent the backflow, which was causing my basement to flood. I felt they should have brought this. With the camera - and pressure hoses. I would have given a higher grade if they would have: 1- Given me any additional options other than "dig up the pipes and your yard - $5,500", even if they are temporary solutions. 2- Brought additional equipment to help them get more of the problem. At least give me the piece of mind that all options were exhausted.

Response from The Plumbing Source
I will start by saying every thing Mr Customer wrote is correct. Snaking storm drains around homes is tricky business. Typically a homeowner doesn't even know he has a root problem until the line backs up. At that point its like finding stage 4 cancer. Every cleanout and downspout has roots in it, we know that because he brought roots back from all openings snaked. We did get the drain flowing, but it's just temporary as roots will continue to grow. Root killer can help but it is not a fix. We don't just bring out a Jetter because a home owner suggests it. But it is always available, if needed it will be brought out to the jobsite. Lets keep in mind it was not needed and if we had brought it out it would have costed the customer money he didn't need to spend. There is no question that the problem will not go away untill the pipes are replaced. The amount of time spent (3.5 hrs) 2 men and a camera the $600.00 charges was very reasonable. I recommend getting other estimates to replace the storm sewer and we would really like the opportunity to do the job. Thank You, Greg Faustina Pres.

They did a very good job. Tear out was completed without any additional damage. New chrome fixtures and excellent tile work. Even touched up the paint on walls around the new towel racks. Guidance was provided regarding choice of new ceramic tile and all the fixtures as well as how best to make tub/shower more accessible for the elderly and/or disabled. Because I wanted to save the original tub, they took care to not scratch it. They had difficulty replacing the plumbing from the tub because the drain was at an awkward angle but they figured out how to successfully access it from the kitchen below through a recessed ceiling light fixture and did no damage, whatsoever. The shower doors were adhering to the tub with caulking and it was difficult to remove. But they took their time and carefully scraped it clean. Every one of the workers was pleasant, polite and professional. They were careful not to track any dirt through my house and they cleaned up everything every day before leaving. The Plumbing Source has been my 'go to' plumber for over 10 years. When I found out that they did bathroom remodeling, I did not hesitate to ask them for a quote. They were prompt, attended to details, kept the mess to a minimum and did everything I asked of them.
Description of Work: The Remodeling Source, which is a division of The Plumbing Source, up-dated the main bathroom on the second floor of my home. This involved tear out of vanity top, sink, old ceramic tile down to the studs, and shower door. They installed a new vanity top with sink and new plumbing fixtures, 'cement board' and all new ceramic tile around tub, with new hand grips, shelves, tile rack, and hand held shower. The tub is now ADA compliant.

The technician was professional and on time and the office people are very friendly; however, I did not feel like I received any value for my money. He said the unit is getting older so it could last a while or wear down in the near future. Paid about $200 for the visit but didn't get any useful info or I believe even a tune up. Total waste of money and time. Would not use them again for A/C or heater work. Later noticed on Angie's list that multi-point inspections are less than half what i paid and it is an actual inspection. Later had a plumber come out from another company (that also does AC work) for a plumbing job and he was able to provide more help than Plumbing Source's HVAC guy. In my opinion, Plumbing Source=Plumbing, not HVAC.
Description of Work: Had suspicions that the bearings were going out on my furnace, so called them to come out and check it. They did a "Heater / AC Safety Check"

I always appreciate comment positive and negative. I wish you would have called me immediately to address your concerns on a more timely basis. I did look up your invoice and did see that the technician logged Amp draw on inducer and blower motors, control board working properly, venting was clear with no obstructions. Also replaced a filter to the humidifier. We do run pre-season safety checks for $79.00 in the fall and spring. The Technician should have done a better job explained everything he did while at your home. Thank you for your comments Greg Faustina Pres,

We love it! The system is out of the way it was installed without a mess or anything left for us to fix up. The only gripe I had was not even related to the work that needed to be done, we have a drop celing in the adjacent room and some how the tile was bumped and fell out causing it to break. Nothing was said to us about it, maybe it was a mistake, and they just forgot to say something... but aside from that the work paid for was done professionally and I would hire them again, I would refer them to anyone looking for a water system. I don't feel tricked into buying something I didn't need. I did call several companies and their price was average if not much less than some. I looked at callagan and I didn't like the reviews others had left, after talking to them I would agree with the reviews. It's selling you anything and everything. I did my homework I knew what I needed and what I didn't.
Description of Work: Drained water heater and moved out of the way. Ran main water into laundry room. Installed carbon filter and water softener. Ran line back to main. Reinstalled water heater in room. Filled and fired up. Installed TFC reverse osmosis drinking water system in utility room. Ran line up to main faucet.

I have used The Plumbing Source for numerous jobs at two different homes over the years. They are always professional and get the job done well. Today my well pump stopped working suddenly, leaving me with no water. A plumber arrived and had the problem fixed within a handful of hours after calling. Although they were pretty busy today, they still got my emergency job taken care of. Much appreciated!

It went fine. I called yesterday for an appointment as soon as possible because that's when my neighbor would be home for us to enter her condo to turn off the main valve for the units. Since I called for an appointment yesterday, it is understandable why the plumber was late so I do not hold it against him or the company. I was glad to have this done. The plumber also advised me as to what to do when going out of town so I will follow his procedure when on vacation. I was happy to receive that information.

I called the office on a Sunday when the water leaking happened. Within 30 minutes the on-call technician called me back. He explained that coming out on a Sunday would increase my cost. Since I shut off the water to the house to prevent further damage, I requested for someone to come out Monday morning instead. The technician stated cutting off the water to the house was the most appropriate thing until a plumber could come out. Monday morning I did not hear from office so I called them. They apologized for not getting back to me yet and explained that over the weekend there were many different emergency calls and they were going down a list. Since I stayed at a hotel the night before I asked if the possibility of them coming out was good or should I focus on Tuesday. They agreed to be at my house Tuesday morning at 8am. Mario arrived at exactly 8am on Tuesday. He looked over my situation and explained that one pipe that goes from my basement to the outer wall need to be replaced along with the valve. However since there was so much snow he suggested for the work to be completed in Spring. Since it was only one pipe for waterflow outside he shut the valve completely off. The rest of the house was supplied with water. He asked me to check all faucets and toilets in the house before leaving to make sure there were no further problems. He gave me a estimate of $323 to replace the pipe and valve and stated as soon as the weather change to call to set up the appointment. The estimate would remain the same in Spring plus I would receive a 10% discount. Yay!!! He asked if there was anything else that I needed to have checked. Mario looked at a couple other valves in the basement and stated I should consider replacing some of them as well. There wasn't a charge for him to come out to investigate and provide the estimate. Mario was very friendly, educational, and understanding. He apologized for not being able to get to me on Monday too. Excellent service! I referred the company to my aunt because I was so impressed with the level of professionalism and customer service. From now on this company will be my plumber. I posted their company information on my refrigerator. I'm so glad that I found them.

They arrived on time and assessed the problem. We had a backed up toilet and drains in the basement. Larry explained what would need to be done and gave me a quote. They proceeded to snake the line from the basement toilet to the septic tank. They cleared the line and drains. These employees were very professional and courteous. The cost of the job was $271.46. Not $350.00 as stated. It was recommended to replace the tub waste overflow as it is in poor condition and should have been replaced while repairing the tub drain. The customer opted not to do it at this time so we cleared the drain and repair the drain to help them not spend more money. The cost was very reasonable for what was done. Greg Faustina Pres
