Pat mostly works by himself since he is a perfectionist. He is very detail-oriented and will not cut corners regardless of whether a defect would be immediately visible to the customer. He anticipates he may need to make additional small repairs and enhancements and usually does so gratis even though his estimate was more than competitive. Since he does many jobs he can offer valuable insights into the latest styles and products if requested. I was very pleased with the end result - his skill and professionalism were very apparent. Pat also performs handyman repairs and did a few other small projects for me - refinished the grout and caulk in another bathroom that had been poorly done by a previous contractor, repaired an interior door that had been badly planed and scratched, repaired a sticking sliding pantry shelf drawer that I was unable to figure out and most notably added a beautiful frame to a mirror that was glued to a wall. Again I was very happy with the results and the improvement they made to the house. As was typical, Pat was prone to fixing other items he would notice "in the vicinity" (such as scratches in the woodwork) if he could do so.

Patrick did an excellent job of working through the many challenges sometimes faced when working with old plumbing and exceeded my expectations in respect to the quality and timelines of his work. That special award status on "Angie's" is most deserving from my perspective. Thanks Patrick for "Job Well Done"...

I can only reiterate what others have said about Patrick and his work. He is a perfectionist, who owns what he does and is deservably proud of it. He also has excellent taste and suggested some changes to the work, which I hadn't considered originally, but which greatly enhanced the beauty of my kitchen. What were to be simply repainted cabinets became beautiful natural wood and look like brand new. This entailed much more work than was in our original agreement, but Patrick did it with enthusiasm and pride. He also prevented the counter top installer (who wanted to hurry to his next job) from leaving my bar top unlevel, insisting he shim one side to level it. If Patrick had not been there, I would have been stuck with a slightly slanting bar. You don't have to worry about shoddy, hurried work from Patrick; he will take the time and do what is necessary to make you (and himself) happy.

The job Pat took on was a hard one that previous contractor left as total mess that nothing was done right. He redid the two bathroom floors, and put an entire new shower, and replace vanities and toilets. Pat was so dedicated, he took extra efforts to make sure I would not have any problems later. He is a perfect craftsman with attention to detail, great idea and good sense. The work that he did is so professional and beautifully finished! He always cleans after himself. I was really impressed how clean his work is. The result was beautiful and I am very happy with it and it was best experienced I've had with a contractor to date. Pat even came by to check on the shower door install by different company!

The old door frame and door were a "mess" as neither had been properly installed originally. My home was purchased new about 26 years ago, with a standard metal front door, and about 15 or so years ago, I had the front door replaced with a then new expensive wood door, but the installer used the old frame. So the old frame had been cut to fit two doors and looked awful and there never was a good seal for the wood door. This past year my wood door split and could not be repaired, so it was time to tackle this project. I purchased a new fiberglass door (to look like wood) along with the frame. Pat worked from about 10:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. tearing out the old and putting in the new door and frame, with new hardware. I was home to see the work being done--so I saw the old frame and how it had been constructed and installed, and then the new that Pat installed. Unbelievable the difference. I originally contacted Pat a few years ago to fix a badly leaking shower (leaking so badly, I could not use the shower), after I had read some customer reviews of Pat's work on Angie's List. One customer said that Pat was "anal" about his work, to do everything just right. It is true that Pat is a perfectionist and his finished works shows it. I wish I had a video clip of the before, during work, and as finished--incredible work --far more complicated than I had imagined it would be. Now I have a beautiful new front door entryway, all properly installed with a tight fit (but not too tight to open easily) door in frame. The difference in terms of look, quality of workmanship and function (air tight), is remarkable. Pat says his superb finished work is what I am paying him for, but I believe his workmanship exceeds reasonable expectations.

Pat could not simply put the parts back together as they had come apart--it had to be completely taken apart and then rebuilt, but he used the same stones and this time, unlike the original contractor, Pat build a correct foundation for the wall, digging down and laying concrete as a base. As with other repair jobs I hire Pat to do, he shows me what should have been done originally and what he needs to do to repair and rebuild. This was a royal mess--with extremely heavy stones that made the task difficult given the way some of the stone came apart. Pat did the repair work correctly, and the finished job was perfect. He also did another "little job" while he was here--repaired what a squirrel or other critter had chewed through (a vent for the basement), that two other contractors who had looked at this, could not figure out what/how to repair so my own temporary fix that had lasted several years was finally permanently fixed! Pat tailor made a a very tight, hard, substantial screen and screwed it in--and did the same for another vent so they would match. Frankly, to me, as the homeowner, this was every bit as important as fixing the stone wall.

It was a relatively small job for him, but he managed to fit us in his schedule to come out and do it when he said he would. Though he did not give us a written estimate or invoice, he was clear on his rate and estimated amount of time it would take. His rate is very reasonable and he was responsive and dependable. Additionally his hours were very flexible and he would not mind coming out on weekends, so it worked out very well for us.

Did a very professional job. Bathroom looks great! Pat picked up materials we ordered online. Very impressed that I came home everyday and there was not a mess anywhere during construction. Highly recommend!

We had some issues with our mantel not being mounted correctly to our brick fireplace and Pat came up with a great idea and built a cleat of sorts to secure it and it is stronger than ever. I could do pull-ups on it if I wanted now. He also cut about an inch off the bottom of our pockets doors since we were getting carpet over our hardwood floors and had to make sure the doors would open after. He did a great job and the doors are perfect after the carpet was installed! Thanks Pat very much. You know I'll be calling for more projects in the future.

Pat is always very responsive, and he knows what he is doing on just about any job he is asked to do. I find him my "go to guy" regardless of what I need done. He also knows how to work around or solve problems that may be involved. In this case, I did not order the correct amount of material. So, we had to start at stage one and calculate how much more of the materal would be needed. I also thought I would do it the "easy" way, and install a second portion later n the year or even next year so as not to do the trenching around the garden now. Pat convinced me it was better and easier to do the trenching now so that it all would be done correctly now.

On another trip to install a disposal, he diagnosed that the existing problem was electrical. he was able to fix that and we avoided the cost of a replacement disposal.

It went very well! Patrick was very detail oriented and did an excellent job. He was punctual, gave solid advice and more then enough information so that I could make informed decisions. Also, I gave him a key to my house, since I could not be at home, and he left my home very clean, as if no one had been doing work there. I highly recommend him and will certainly hire him again for future projects.

Patrick is an artisan. He is very deliberate and precise with his work. He listens to what you want but will offer alternatives when he thinks there is better way. For example, we wanted a cat door installed in our raised door going leading to the basement. Patrick was concerned that the cat door would make the door unstable. He suggested a custom opening be added to adjacent wall in the hallway. We agreed and it turned out amazing. He matched the molding around the door to and installed a small strip of hardwood floor as an accent. Whenever you want a job done right, Patrick is a great person to call.

The work was commenced before Christmas, as I had agreed that this work could be done around the holidays, and is now finished. Pat does things in the proper order and allows time for things to cure or dry, before gong on to the next step. This does add some time to the project, but it is what is needed so it is done correctly. In selecting the cabinets to go into the laundry room, I wanted the cabinets to match existing cabinets on the other side of the room, but this was only possible if I elected unstained cabinets and had Pat paint the cabinets to match. Pat took the time to sand the cabinets and put a primer on, before painting, and painting in a way so that no brush marks would show--all in all a superb job. He also saw that while I had selected the paint for the walls, and had the paint mixed at a local store--the mix was NOT close to what was on the "sample" color card, and he took it upon himself to go to the store and have another can mixed and replaced the can of paint I had purchased. I felt the store would have argued with me, but Pat was happy to do this. The color in the first can of paint was incorrect, and the second can was correct, so this proves again that Pat takes the time to do things correctly--he knows these wall are not likely to be painted again for a long time and the color did make a significant difference. I love the new laundry room--so much more functional AND the updating of the utility sink, faucet and fixtures, the new additional cabinets, and the correct paint color on the walls all makes for a GREAT HOME IMPROVEMENT.

The completed tiled shower floor and walls turned out wonderful. Patrick went over and above our expectations. He even pointed out and fixed some minor issues in the bathroom that we not part of the project scope. I would definitely use Patrick again, and will recommend him to friends and family.

I have recently (May and June 2013) had two bathrooms remodeled, and the second bathroom was finished last week (June 18, 2013). The contractor tore out all the old flooring, subflooring (which also needed to be replaced) , toilet, fixtures, etc. and installed tile flooring, new toilet (water efficient) and new faucets, etc. As with the other work this contractor has done for me, he has demonstrated that he can handle whatever remodeling job is needed and regardless of how poorly the original contractor may have done the original work. With my second remodeled bathroom, it became apparent that the walls were not square--but "off" and he had the skill to install the new tile in such a way that the "eye" did not see how off the wall was. He took the necessary time to do the job not just OK but TERRIFIC. I am thrilled with this contractor's work. Not only does he have the skill to do superb work, but he works as if it were his own home. And, yes, he takes his time to do it right--to let things set that need to set good. I had this contractor repair a bathroom shower for me last year (a different bathroom) and he did a superb job then in a very difficult situation given the water damage. His work is very consistent. I intend to have this contractor back for other work, including the remodel of the basement rec room. If you want super cheap and are okay with a just okay or even a sloppy job, hire someone else but I want the best done in my home, so I will continue to hire this contractor and let him use his good judgment on how the job should come together. .

Pat does a superb job from beginning to end. He refuses to accept the poor substandard work of my original contractor 26 years ago and build on crap. No, he will remove the crap and start correctly--e.g., Pat correctly laid new sub floor before he commenced the tile work. He is meticulous and does everything like it was his own home. I got Pat from Angie's List about a year ago in connection with another bathroom that needed repair (my master bath shower leaked), and a person who reviewed Pat on Angie's List gave him a very positive review which greatly influenced my decision--the other reviewer said Pat was anal about doing the work correctly. He is, but this is just what a homeowner wants or should want. I have taken the time to watch Pat as he works the job--from beginning to end--not every detail every minute, but enough to know how everything is going and coming together. I have been very surprised to learn what all is involved, and had I not observed Pat work and see what he does to do things correctly, I probably would not know anything except the finished product would look great. Because I have taken the time to watch Pat, I can see how he has corrected some mistakes made by the original contractor's workers. I am having Pat replace the flooring (tile) and counters in a third bathroom and based on his work on the first two projects, including the bathroom he just finished, I know this contractor well enough now to know that he will complete any project with great skill and care when he probably could get away with doing less, but it is not in his nature to do so. I am extremely pleased to have a contractor of Pat's skill and attention to detail.

Contacted Patrick to get a quote for several jobs needed to get our house ready for market. Patrick did a walkthrough and provided a verbal estimate. The final price was right in the middle of his estimated range. He showed up on time and completed all jobs in under 3 days time. His work is very high quality and he pays very close attention to detail. For example, he cut and set the mosaic tiles in our kitchen backsplash and added reliefs to the baseboards for a perfect clean look. He gave us lots of tips and showed us how to correctly do some of routine maintenance jobs around the house. He was very eager to help us out over the phone. During the final cleaning of our home a basement window was broken. Patrick was not available on short notice to repair it. He gave me detailed instructions over the phone and told me where to go to have the glass cut. With his help I was able to repair the window myself that same day. Patrick will be our go to craftsman for all future need in our new home.

I thought that the price was very competitive and that the integrity of the work was very good. What I didn't like is that there was a little bit of haggling going on and some of the fine finishing was a little sub par. We had an issue with water coming into our house and they had to jack up the house and repair it and I thought they did a really good job about that.

The man is an artist and a perfectionist. He labored under unexpected difficulties and odd problems that came up in our old house and met every challenge with style. He fought weather, illness and imperfectly squared tile products and stayed calm through all the havoc this played with his schedule. He made sure that we were comfortable and happy each day; and were able to use the facilities as we needed. He kept his workspace and our house clean. He was present when he said he would be and kept us informed every step of the way. He was delightful, with a keen wit and good sense of humor and brought in a most delightful assistant who shared his work ethic. Do not expect Mr. Ashby to show up at the crack of down, but do know that he will stay until the job is done right. We will most certainly call Mr. Ashby whenever we need help or want to improve our house..

Pat is easy easy to work with and kept the work area neat. He let us know every day how things were progressing, we did not have to call him to find out. Pat also also fixed a couple of things around the house without charging extra.

He only charged me $75 on a Sunday. It was an unusual job and he had never dealt with a situation like that. He handled it very well. He is an incredibly good guy. I can't say enough good things about him. Everything he has done for me is A+.

I called to get an estimate. Left a message. No response in over 1 month. My advice - unless you know this guy or he has already done work for you, just don't bother. Call someone else who can handle taking on a new job. It'll save you a week or 2 of waiting.

Patrick is a very skilled craftsman. He put his heart and soul into our project and was committed to making it look great. This wasn't easy because our home was built in 1924. There were some huge challenges, but he overcame every single one of them to make our project a reality. As a result of the obstacles, the project took a little bit longer than anticipated, but we knew it was being done well. This kitchen is exactly what we wanted and we are very pleased with the final results. We will be hiring him again in a few months for some other smaller remodeling projects. **The total price above includes all labor and materials for the job, plus the appliances. With the quality that we received, we feel that we got all that we paid for and then some! Patrick goes above and beyond.
