Response from Above & Beyond Carpentry Inc.
Above & Beyond Carpentry stands behind all work performed. We take these Angie's List handyman services we offer seriously and we try our best to maximize the amount of work done by clearly communicating with you about what your specific project is and whether or not you have all the necessary components. If you have any problems it is expected that the customer contact me immediately so that I can rectify the situation as soon as possible. I consider myself and my workers as Mechanics not Magicians. This work was performed several weeks ago and neither the customer nor Angies List reached out to me to tell me there was a problem with the work. This review is the first time I actually heard about it and I have reached out to the customer and am awaiting her response. I also spoke to Mike, who is a very capable and responsible person and he was very surprised to hear that she was not happy. This is his response as to what happened: "I broke down a desk & put outside for pickup (very neatly, she mentioned). Put up countless pictures, and window ornaments. Installed toilet paper holder. Fixed bedroom door which was loose due to small screws (installed -1- 3" screw in each hinge. Installed shower head (which was very flimsy product) but it was installed correctly none the less and adjusted 3 curtain brackets. Now the things I couldn't do & why: 1. Fix wobbly bedroom fan. Reason; fan was installed on new construction (blue) junction box which is meant for light fixture only. Not fans. 2. Install light fixture to bedroom fan: Could not, due to incorrect wiring of initial install & missing blue wire on fan was cut too short to pigtail onto. 3. Fix wobbly den fan as well. (Same problem) *I did try my best to make the fan sturdy, installing the one spacer she had, and tried to secure the junction box more but to no avail & I explained why, AND she blamed shoddy work by FEMA contractors. 4. Put back up lazy Susan door in kit cabinet: Could only put up one of the two-fold doors, because she could not locate the other 2 hinges. ( she said it's fine, she would look for it later). 5. Assemble vacuum: She could not find all the parts (I also helped look for the missing parts in the garage using the ladder, to no avail)". Based on the information above I would like to reiterate on how important it is to communicate with us about your project and to have everything ready for us when it comes time to do the work. If a problem arises, as it will from time to time, then immediately contacting me will give us a chance to fix it. If your missing something we are more than willing to get the necessary materials. Sometimes there are going to be things we cannot rectify in the amount of time allotted and then there are things which you the customer might not know until we open up a Pandora's box and find out that the previous work was done poorly. Again, we are Mechanics not Magicians. Unfortunately, this is one of those cases where there was a lack of clear communication, shoddy work performed by previous contractors (hurricane Sandy victim), and not being prepared by not having all the material on hand. I will take responsibility for the lack of clear communication, and I have told my workers that in the future if for any reason something cannot be fixed and that if I'm not there, that they are to contact me immediately. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my Angies List customers for giving me the opportunity to serve you and to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season. Sincerely, Mark Wirth Above & Beyond Carpentry PS we are moving out to St. James, NY in the beginning of October 2015 and we look forward to a new and exciting life ahead! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
