Company and Carl were very responsive to phone calls and questions...even returning calls on Thanksgiving. Crew arrived punctually followed shortly by the crew manager who introduced us to all of the workers and continued to oversee the roofing until completion. Job done efficiently and property left clean and neat.. We are considering further work on the house and will definitely utilize this company if we do the work

There was even 1 window which did not fit, and a new window was ordered and installed within 2 weeks. It's refreshing to work with a company that takes pride in their work and keeps their promises. I won't think twice about going back to them for a future project.
Description of Work: They replaced a total of 40 windows on a house. Windows ranged from Double Hung,Awning, Picture, Casement and a couple of Sliders.

I had one issue with them, they did everything, but I had to provide the cabinets. He still was very good and professional. He showed me the drawings and advised how the space will look like. I will still contact them in future.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from Major Homes for a kitchen and bathroom remodel, electrical upgrade, 14 windows replacement and sidewalk repeater, a few months ago.

+ 0 moreI called the Company in the morning and they were very friendly and helpful. A salesman by the name of Carl DiPresso called me within a few hours and set up an appointment to see the awning that evening. He arrived on time. I told him i was looking to repair or replace the awning after it collapsed during the previous week's snowstorm. After showing me multiple brochures, we went to look at the awning. After looking at it for about 5 minutes he determined it was beyond repair and said it needed to be replaced at a cost of approx. $3300.00. If i agreed to sign that evening, he would give me a 4% discount. I obviously was not ready to sign right then and thanked him for coming by. A week later I located another service called GS and S Awning located in Hartsdale. I called them and they were able to come by and evaluate the awning within a few days. They sent us a written proposal and was able to REPAIR the awning and remount it to the house all for $385.00. The awning works perfectly fine now and is very secure on the house. I am very satisfied the GS and S's service and professionalism. I would not call Major Homes again. Never addressed the fact that the awning was repairable.

+ 0 morethis guy has to be kidding. he met my husband and got all the details of the work we needed done. he insisted that he needs to meet with both of us to which we suggested that we meet in the city since we both work there. they never got back. Seriously Jason - try this with someone else - we care about this and don't want to let contractors like you get away with this stuff.
Description of Work: We called Major Homes to get a quote on window replacement and roof replacement. The guy came in, spent an hour at our place looking thrpough everything and asking questions. He then said he would need one hour to explain everything to us in a separate session, which we agreed to. He then dissappeared. I get a call a few days later saying they cannot do the job since they have too many jobs on hand. Well then - why waste our time in the first place?

+ 1 moreI got the recomendation from Angie's list, called and within a week Bob was at our door. He explained the different systems of windows and gutters and their merits and short falls. His suggestion was not the most expensive possibility. We ordered the windows and they were installed within the month. The whole process went very smoothly.
Description of Work: Major Homes first replaced gutters and half of our windows and then replaced a small portion of our roofing cover. I could not recommend them more highly for their craft, professionalism and price.

+ 3 moreWhat a refreshing change to find a company in the remodeling industry that cares about their work and keeps their promises! While it's always disruptive to have work done, the whole experience was as smooth and stress-free as possible. Right from the proposal stage through to final completion, our project manager Budd Shamroth was on top of everything and he constantly demonstrated his extensive knowledge and experience. You could tell he had seen it all before and we never felt that he was learning on the job unlike many of the contractors we have hired in the past. Budd is one of the hardest working guys we've ever met and was always responsive to our needs and questions even on evenings and weekends. All of the workers who were on site each day including our crew chief Bobby worked hard and did a great job to get everything completed. They were very thorough and ensured everything was finished to a high standard before moving onto the next project. Major Homes was not the cheapest quote we received for the work, but they did not nickle and dime us when an ocassional unforeseen extra item was needed. In the past we've had contractors lowball the work and then add "surprises" down the line. This did not happen here. So overall we felt that we got value for money. Overall we were delighted with the project and would not hesitate to contact Budd and his team in the future. We are hoping to build an extension in a few years and Budd will be the first person on our list to call.

+ -1 moreextremely systematic and when it came to the 3 challenging windows they made every effort to protect the building and get the job done right. Afterall, these windows are going to be here for decades. Constructive Criticism: There should be more customer touchpoints from the deposit until time of installation. I reached out to Jason 2 times and he got back to me right away yet when I asked for updates and if the job would be complete before Halloween. He e-mailed me that I reach out to Russ (the estimator) and he gave me his number. I would have preferred Jason say, "No problem, I will get back to you ASAP". Russ wound up calling me anyway and I was pleased to hear that the windows would be installed 1 week prior to Halloween. A superior sales force always stays engaged and whether or not he is the go to person for answers it's best to go an get those answers and respond back to the customer. Overall it was a great experience and I am looking forward to enjoying the features and benefits of my seventeen (17) new windows.
Description of Work: Window Replacement: Seventeen Double Hung - Bronx, New York Had a need to change the widows in my home for several years. Finally was ready to make the move and did a lot of asking around the neighborhood (North East Bronx). Joined Angie's List to check out the reviews of my local installer and others in NYC. I have to say that the experience with Major Homes was excellent. Jason was punctual, actually calling prior to arriving on time. This young man is becoming a true professional. His appearance was professional and his presentation thorough and very informative. I was not planning on making a decision on the night of the presentation yet I was moved to make the deal. We reviewed 3 lines of the OKNA windows and was originally going to settle for the lower 200 model. Jason brought in the 200, 400, and 800 model and we fell in love with the Okna 800. The price was out of our budget and through professional negotiating we came to a mutually beneficial agreement. We like Jason, a young man who is passionate about his business and respects family values. That says a lot about a professional offering products or services. I asked to have Peter and Tony as installers as I read they are the best. These two gentlemen, along with their helper Jose, could not have been better. They respected my home as if it were theirs. Took every provision to ensure the drop cloths were placed throughout the entire home. They worked efficiently, neatly, with courtesy and respect. They took the time to explain things to me and assured me that I made the right choice. I bought the guys lunch and made them espresso! It was a beautiful day to work with the weather in the 60's. Jason came over to give me an estimate and offered to match the price at spot, plus 0% financing for part of the purchase price. So I went with them. Russ came in a few days later to do detailed measurement. He was on time and quick. In a month, the windows came. The installation crew came in early. (7:45 am versus. 8:00 am originally scheduled). They had told me it would take two days and ended up spending only a day and a half. The service was quick and clean. Everything looks great!

Description of Work: We have been using Major Homes, a family-run business, since we purchased our home in 1991. We have never used any other service for our roof, leaders, gutters, and doors because there was no need to; when you have perfection, you stay with it. Mitch Kersh runs a tight ship; his workers are excellent in their skills and but beyond that, they are good people, are all mannerly and professional. I recently called Mitch to have my leaders and gutters checked. He told me the service would be free, that we have been long-standing customers and he valued our patronage. Despite the untimely death of one of his workers, he was able to send me a couple of great guys to perform the service and true to his word, there was no fee. And note, the men worked for about an hour. A month before I asked him to send someone to fix an inoperative lock on a storm door that he had installed in 2004. A gentleman arrived and had the lock and other mechanisms fixed in no time. Again, no fee. Mitch must have read the book, "Customers for Life." He knows just how to make a customer feel valued, hence a bond of mutual respect and loyalty is formed.

Description of Work: Major came and assessed the damage caused by the squirrels. He took pictures to show me and said they could do a temporary fix. Major called 2 days later and said they were sorry but they don't handle the facia work that my house requires. He supplied me with a carpenter's name and phone number. The suggestion being he might do the work that is needed.

They were always on time, courteous and considerate of my property. + -1 moreI am disappointed with this company. They should do a better job of telling members of what they will and will not do in their “services included” section. They should say that they only do large type of jobs, not the “small” job that I inquired about. They referred me to a handyman who said that the job was too big for him because he doesn’t glaze bathtubs and doesn’t do plumbing work. The handyman suggested I contact a plumber. When I called the company back and explained that the handyman couldn’t do the job, they suggested I go back to Angie’s List and I do another search for Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling.
Description of Work: I wanted them to regrout my entire bathroom. Reglaze the bathtub and to change out a vanity. They said that the job was too small. They referred me to a plumber and the plumber, whose name is Paul Archer. He told me that he does not reglaze bathtubs and could not change the vanity because of very valid concerns.

+ -1 moreI had one problem with Major Homes. The representative who dropped by my home to give me an estimate lied to me. He said that GAF will not honor their shingle warranty if their shingles were installed over existing shingles. It clearly states on GAF's website that it is OK to roof over existing shingles, with some minor execptions that didn't apply to my roof. I call GAF headquarters two times to confirm. Two different GAF representatives confirmed my findings. Obviously, this is not a great way to start a relationship with a prospective customer. Of course, I never called them back. I suspect that the reason they would not roof over existing shingles is that it is cheaper for the consumer. The job involves less materials and labor.

+ 3 moreIt did not go well because they are not willing to do the work I am requesting. They were unwilling to perform the work, they did not even let us speak to a contractor nor get an estimate. Very poor customer service. In Response to Mitch: No thank you I do not wish to discuss this further with you. The truth is the job I requested was too small for your company to be profitable therefore you were "backed up" indefinitely.
Description of Work: Called twice to get estimates for kitchen renovation, including cabinetry, plumbing and electrical work. Was placed on hold twice and when speaker returned stated "We will not be able to do your work, we are backed up" I asked "at no point will you be able to do the work I am requesting and she stated "No, we are very backed up". Very disappointed in this company as it seems to have received many positive reviews. Won't be recommending Major Homes to anyone in need of work. My Fiance and I both called on seperate occasions to get information and a estimate for a kitchen remodeling including cabinetry, countertops, electrical and plumbing work. We were both placed on hold never got to speak with a contractor and was told "No, they could not do the work for us because they are backed up" I inquired at not point would they be able to do the work and the rep responded "No", Very disappointed in this company as I have seen so many great reviews here on Angie's List.
