We hired Stoneworks as a subcontractor to Home Depot for our kitchen remodel. The guy who did the template was great, but it went downhill from there. The initial counter installation was substandard, including more than 10’ of counter unattached to the base cabinets, a very uneven seam in the middle of the counter, and divots sanded into the area around the seam, in an apparent attempt to repair the botched seam (see photos). After an extensive effort to reach the company’s management, their response to our complaint was to misrepresent their proposed solution to the problem. On our call with the manager, he explained that due to the level of damage at the main seam, the company planned to remove most of the countertop, including the sink. This would allow the damaged section to be cut out and replaced in the factory. This meant that we would be without a kitchen sink for nearly three days.We agreed to this approach as the only path offered to obtain a reasonable result. However, when the counter was re-installed as scheduled, it was glued down before we realized that instead of repairing the counter in Stoneworks’ factory, as agreed, the re- installation included the same pieces that had been damaged in the previous installation. The crew lead advised us that the factory had instead removed the old glue and cleaned up the seams, but he could “buff them out easily to a factory quality finish”. What we didn’t realize was that this process would involve extensive (nearly 4 hrs) onsite sanding in our home- which we never would have agreed to allow. No effort was made to contain the resulting dust, which has permeated our entire home and caused major problems with my severe allergies. As a result, we have had to leave windows open and fans blowing to the outside ever since, even though temperatures have dropped below 40 degrees. We are still cleaning up the fine plastic dust nearly two weeks later, as it is everywhere.
