Ed has done work for my mom for years. He is fair with his price and his workers did a great job. They were neat and cleaned up after themselves. We will surely use them again.

On the plus side: The owner, Ed,estimated that the job would take 2-3 days, and he was right on target. He did use Benjamin Moore paint (excellent quality and washable). The crew moved furniture out of the way, put down drop cloths and covered the furniture with plastic. The preparation work seemed meticulous. They removed my blinds. They sealed the cracks in the plaster with mesh tape, repaired storm damage in my den, and for the most part, spackled any areas that need it. They did an excellent job priming any areas that needed priming. They did only the work in the contract and nothing extra (but they did the risers on my steps to the attic rooms, not included in the original price, for an extra $80). They did a fine job with the painting of the large areas, ceiling and walls. The men showed up on time, immediately went to work, and wasted no time. I was pleased that the owner, Ed, showed up daily to check on the progress of the job. On the minus side: Where I was disappointed was in the finer points. They do not remove wall plates! They paint ?around? them WITHOUT using painters? tape. They were neat but not perfect and the plates I did not remove ahead of time do have some paint on them. I am hoping that when I replace these plates, if I am able to remove them without damaging the paint, that there will be no damage or need to repaint. Speaking about the ?painters? tape issue again, tape was obviously not used when they painted trim or near my kitchen cabinets as they got paint on the wood and mirror back splash (not a lot, but I am going to have to figure a way to remove it). They did not use tape when painting my baseboards so the lines are not crisp. In my den, when the baseboards were painted, there was white paint on some walls and the carpet. They did an average job cleaning up, removing all of their refuse and placing it in a bag for collection. There is a film of plaster powder, which is to be expected, and I am dealing with it room by room. My floors had some spots of paint on them that the men did not notice when they cleaned up and hopefully, I will be able to remove all of them. In summary, I would like to say that you get what you pay for. South Shore was not the cheapest, but about $1000 less than the more expensive painters on Angie?s List. My house looks freshly painted (because it is) and clean, and nice to come home to. The imperfections are hardly noticeable if you are not looking for them.

Ed arrived on time and told us what he could do for us and gave us a reasonable estimate. About two weeks later his men arrived at the appointed time. They carefully laid protection on the floors and set to work. They repaired cracks and primed on the first day and finished on the second day. Ed's workers are very polite and careful. We will gladly have them back to do our living room. If you try today, you won't find where the cracks were. Flawless work.

It took several days of work to plaster the ceiling because it had to dry between coats - of which there were several. In between, the other jobs (painting, headers, wallpaper) were done. Plastering was a dusty job, but the crew placed tarps over everything and cleaned up after themselves each day. I'm planning to hire him again, in the next month, to paint and plaster the bedroom and some new wood cabinetry I'm having built.

I spoke to quite a number of painters and was set to hire one when I tripped on South Shore Painting (on Angie's list) and I'm glad I did! Like many homes on Long Island, my house is pretty old and had developed quite a few scars over the years. There was a divot from when the oil tank was removed, a really old alarm box on the side, a rectangular hole discovered when we removed some shrubs etc....Ed and his team did a great job painting the house and helping with all these other issues. The team was professional, prompt and I am very satisfied with the job they did. I could have hired someone cheaper, and there were plenty willing to do it cheaper! But I wanted it done professionally and done right and for me the price worked. Keep in mind there were other painters I talked to willing to do the work for a lot more as well. I also contacted the major chain that advertises all the time and their price was not so great and they wouldn't do any of the extras, so that didn't work for me at all (although they did offer to paint the flower boxes...who can't paint a flower box?!?!?). If you want the job done right by a professional team.. .I highly recommend South Shore painting!

Although my home had been painted multiple times in the past I had one side that needed a lot of work. I allowed a Vine to grow on the stucco on one side for many years and finally realized it wasn't a good thing. I got three estimates and decided to go with Eddie At SS Painting who gave me the middle quote. The work was completed yesterday and I gotta say GREAT JOB!! Eddie knows his business and his staff is professional, clean and very hard working! He not only did a great prep job he blended the color perfectly and painted the front and back too.As we all know something always comes up that wasn't discussed prior and Eddie is a fair and cool guy to deal with. I will hire him again for my future painting projects! Thanks again SS Painting!

Ed's crew did a great job. Ed and the boys showed up on the 1st day and got right to work. They were clean, personable & professional. The job took two days as promised. I am very happy with the job & will be using South Shore Painting in the future.

I usually dont like giving out all A's - But Ed and crew come very close. I hate reading reviews that are all constant A's. Seems like a red flag - but thats me.. Ed has done work for me in the Five towns area, as well as my second home out East...(which he was reluctant to come to). Great job, good communicator, hands on. A pleasure seeing him in control continually. If your looking for a smaller company that insures no subcontractors and or fancy personal I recommend him.

Top rate professional, good listener, full of valuable suggestions. Performed job so well so that there was no trace of former water damage due to leak. Great personality, great sense of humor, personable. The crew was extremely helpful in moving furniture and putting it back. The crew of 2-3 workers was extremely competent with finishing touches. Job finished on time. Will rehire again for sure.

I thought that they did a very good job. They were neat and punctual. They were quick and I was very satisfied. They fixed one wall for me. They were upfront with me about any extra prices. I had asked them to do another job for me. I would recommend them and if I have anymore work for them, I would call them back. Their price was realistic. They were not the top price. I thought in all that the price was correct. There were no problems after it was done. I would definitely use them again.

Had South Shore P&P redoing my newborn sons room. Ed came in and gave me some decorating ideas as well as how the room would look with some fancy moldings and wainscoting. I determined a budget and we decided on a navy blue theme (Symphony Blue). Ed locked the doors and spent three full days in the room with his crew. Even when he went home I wasn,t allowed to go in, can you believe it? ED said it was going to be a surprise!!!!! Well let me tell you - stunning job when we finally got in. Crisp navy 1/2 walls with gloss white oversized crown moldings and gorgeous white wainscoting. Fixed my closet doors, and hung new molding around doors and windows. I am usually not good at visualizing finshes, but Ed was right on the spot. I was flawed by the job and the level of craftsmanship. I am going to try and post some pictures. I had others pricing this job at much lower and higher numbers, however I am convinced that this job was performed by an artist and professional.

I recently purchased a new apartment and moved back to Long Beach, NY, after Hurricane Sandy. The entire condo needed color and I wanted it completed while I was out of town. Eddie at South Shore Painting was recommended by several former clients and when we met I felt I was given a fair estimate. I also needed a damaged wall repaired and concealed. The painting was finished in two days and I returned to a beautifully painted home! He and another painter came back to check any concerns I had. Eddie was able to give me advice on future color choices and gave me undivided attention while I asked questions about color and lighting. I would certainly pass the recommendation on to other homeowners!

Called South Shore cause they worked for two other neighbors on my block. Ed the owner showed up as scheduled to estimate job, we agreed, and set a date. Workers showed up in a timely and neat fashion. They spent almost two days plastering and skimcoating walls in my 2 bedrooms. I could not believe the walls would come out that straight (My house is old plaster walls dating back to 1930's) . This is after Ed said it was going to look like a million bucks and if you didn't like it - don't pay me!!! The priming and painting was secondary however the entire job was exceptional. I would highly recommend this guy, and I know he has been in this area for many a year, but this is the first time I used a professional painter. My husband said he will never try that project again after seeing the results. Also working with lawyers all my life, I was very pleased that Ed showed me his Workers Comp policy and General Liability policy instead of just saying - "yeah I carry that", for my piece of mind. Ordinarily, I do not write reviews but since I myself rely so heavily on them,I felt compelled to do so in light of the review dated 7/29/13, which I believe was exceedingly harsh & unfair especially since it only involved a "free estimate". I used SSP&P before Sandy to re-paint my kitchen and repair water damage to the ceiling. The end result was excellent. The work was clean; professional & timely . Both my neighbors across the street and next door have used SSP&P before and after Sandy and were happy with the work as well. I plan to use SSP&P to repair Sandy damage to my garage doors when I finally get around to it. Granted the Owner can be described as "brutally honest", the first thing he said to me was "I'm not cheap" (that was true but not necessary). He also commented at one point about the "crappy" paint job on my exterior wall ( that was also true but since I did it myself I could only laugh and not be insulted ). I think he is a perfectionist and does not want to make promises he can not keep. At the end of the day, I would much prefer to know the potential problems & pitfalls before hand rather than be surprised later. It is obvious that the Owner really rubbed the last reviewer the wrong way so I can not speak to that other than to say I have also observed that many of my long time contractors seem to be suffering from Sandy fatigue.

All I can say is: "Proceed With Caution". I didn't hire this guy after I got his estimate. Doing so would have been insanity. When I spoke to him on the phone, he sounded professional and he showed up on time to do my estimate. That, unfortunately, was as good as it got. When I answered the door he had a puss on his face and seemed annoyed to be there. I had told him I had gotten a previous estimate but was not going to use that painter because he would not furnish any references. He assured me he had plenty of references, then proceeded to assess the job, which was to spray paint the aluminum siding on my entire house plus re-glaze and paint several of my old double hung wood windows. At every turn he threw dire warnings at me and my wife that the job would not be "perfect". For instance, we had just re-shingled our roof and he warned us that it would be unavoidable that he would get paint on our new roof. When I pointed out some black tar stains on the current siding, he balked making it seem like cleaning them before painting them would be a major job that could take "hundreds of man hours" to do thoroughly. Then he told me I would have to cut all my landscaping at least 2 feet off of the house, effectively ruining it, so he could spray in those areas. Plus, he warned me that the when he placed his ladders on my patio he would unavoidably scratch up my brand new paving stones. Then, when I pointed out the dried-up old caulk around the window frames that obviously need to be scraped out and redone (normal for any whole-house exterior paint job) he snapped at me: "You expect me to Caulk!?" To top it all off he kept probing me to try and figure out what my previous estimate had been for which I wouldn't divulge. We actually considered throwing him off the property halfway through his "estimate" but we were fascinated to hear what he had to say next. Then he went off and paced around the house to prepare his "estimate". When he was done, he immediately threw a ridiculous figure of $20,000 at me. When I said "Whoa!" he quickly lowered it to $15,100 claiming he had made an addition mistake. The he started probing me to see if that was in "my comfort zone". I replied, "not quite, but closer". Then he started ratcheting up the price in $1000 increments claiming several of the services we discussed were "extra". I kept calm and then asked him for references of other houses he had sprayed. He claimed it would take hours to dig through his records and supply some, so he didn't supply any, which was the original reason I had him do an estimate in the first place: REFERENCES!

Work went precisely as promised and scheduled.

THE WALLS LOOK BRIGHTER! WE NEEDED OUR WALLS PAINTED FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. WE CHOSE THE BEST COMPANY TO GET THE JOB DONE RIGHT AND WITH LITTLE SPEED.
