Affordable Solutions by Brian

I asked Brian to come out and provide and estimate on several projects for my older home. He provided reasonable estimates quickly, including an estimate for a larger job which I told him right up front I was not doing immediately but wanted to have an idea of what it would cost. He also gave me suggestions for items for which I was not sure about the best approach. The estimates were reasonable - the electrical work was much lower than I expected. I had him complete the basement windows and electrical work. He came within two weeks of my acceptance of the estimates, and finished the work in one day. The basement windows were installed and sealed, with new framing, and the old electrical was capped off and new fixtures installed. He and his workmen were professional, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves completely. I have a long wish-list on my older home, and will be calling him again for further work.

When we initially contacted Brian his response time was excellent. He called within an hour and came over that afternoon. We were looking to have our front door repaired and having repairs done to the bathroom ceiling and fan. Brian gave us solutions for all the work and sent an estimate the next day. After clarifying a couple of points we agreed to have the work done. Brian said he would have someone there the next week. When the gentleman came he stated the repairs to the door wouldn't be the best fix and it would be wiser to purchase a new door and they could install it. In regards to the bathroom ceiling he gave a different solution for repairing it. He found that the ceiling fan was working correctly and did not need repair. I asked if we could have larger fan installed and he stated yes but it may require additional work. He then called Brian and let him know what he had found and then told me that the estimate would be about the same amount of money. We went to look for a door and were told their price for installing it. We called Brian and asked if he could give us anew estimate with a breakdown of the cost for the door installation and the bathroom work. He stated that they would be out of town the next week and would send it the following week. We never heard back from him. Had we gotten the new estimate we probably would have had him do the work but have since hired another contractor for the repairs.

Brian spent at least 45 minutes giving me a thorough estimate of our electrical problem in the 2nd floor bathroom of our 1925 two family house. Jonathan, an electrician who works for Brian, arrived promptly to start the work on the appointed day and was joined by Brian midway through the process. The job of threading wire from the attic to the basement (a long way!) seemed like it could've been a nightmare, but with their expertise, it went smoothly and quickly. Both Brian and Jonathan were professional, polite and personable. I would absolutely call Brian again.

Due to unforeseen circumstances on my part, the job was not done. But Brian at Affordable Solutions went miles out of his way to survey the job on-site and quickly provided me with a reasonable estimate. His solution to the problem was sensible, he was punctual, his estimate response was rapid. Most importantly, he was courteous at all times, even when I unexpectedly had to cancel the job. Based on his professionalism alone, I would highly recommend Affordable Solutions.

They finished the bathroom but I won't go through him again because he was using old wood to install the floor and walls. The workers are very good but it was hard to reach the owner. They ended up using the old wood from the porch that was 90 years old. I never heard about it before. They told me that the wood did not look that old. The owner kept on saying that I was adding things when I did not. It is hard to explain the worker were good but we were waiting for ever for the owner for the supplies. I felt sorry for the workers. They did not do the outside of the wall properly, he told me that that wasn't in the contract. Then he told me it was an old wall but it was a new wall that they put up. Then he said I had to put something in writing that I would not sue him for the outside wall because he wanted an extra $2000 for a wall he put in the inside porch to put wood up and he just left press board. I told him it looked terrible if someone walks into the house and he had to do something to fix it. He said that it wasn't a part of the contract as it was an old wall which it wasn't. I had to give him in writing that the bathroom was wonderful and I will not hold them responsible for that one wall because he can't guarantee that it won't crumble. It was just press board and they put a cheap rack over it and a plank at the bottom. I told them I would not sue them for that and I'll take responsibility. But I just wanted it done as my health shouldn't grow terrible. They took out my front windows they put up the wall insulated, they put the aluminium siding but when they did that they fooled around with the door bell knob and it was not working and they did fix it. He put a bathroom trim and it does not even match the front of the house. The front of the house looks terrible. The problem the workers kept on telling me is they did not have the material.

Brian and his crew were prompt, professional, fast, and very neat. The job (replacing porch supports, sills, and raising part of the floor to level) was completed beautifully in less than 6 hours. They cleaned up not only any mess they made, but also swept the porch and tidied up the area (which we couldn't do previously due to safety issues with the porch. ) They were respectful of our children and used no coarse language. They even rehung our house number on the new supports which we didn't think to mention. Our shrubberies were also not harmed in anyway by their work. We are beyond happy and would not hesitate to hire Brian again in the future.

Brian was friendly, punctual, energetic, and prepared. He diagnosed and solved the problems quickly. He answered questions in a comprehensive manner and demonstrated a regard for the quality of his work. He offered helpful suggestions and didn't leave until the work areas were clean and in working order.

We called and left a message twice. No one ever called us back. Don't waste your time calling and waiting for a response. We waited a week before calling back and leaving another message (giving them the benefit of the doubt - may be he was on vacation?). Still no response. Obviously, they do not need or care about more business. ***Update since the contractor's response to my original post*** I left a message at your office TWICE; it was not the "wrong company" and we left our name, cell and home phone (again, twice). I find it insulting that you try to say we are incapable of leaving a message/liars. All I am trying to indicate to members is if you do not hear back from this establishment: don't waste time by waiting for a return phone call. We have since found another company to complete the job. I am sure you are a wonderful contractor but it is only fair to review what we experienced. And, don't worry, Angie's List DID contact me to confirm that I called the numbers listed on the site (they followed through as you assumed they wouldn't - just so you are aware). Best wishes.

No work was performed, therefore no comment on quality etc.

After I called Brian to schedule an appointment for an estimate, he called me back within a hour. We scheduled an appointment and although he was held up at another project, his communication with me was great. He arrived when he said that he would, we walked through the projects that I had in mind & Brian offered some good ideas to keep the cost of the projects as low as possible. He followed up on his estimate, and we scheduled an installation date. Although he arrivedlater than he had hoped, he again communicated his time of arrival and when he arrived, assured me that the work would be completed by the end of the day. Brian and his assitant were very professional, knowledgable, and courteous while working under a tight deadline. All work was completed as explained, Brian even came across an issuenot on the estimate that he offered a solution for and fixed on the spot.

There must have been something wrong with the communication. He did call back and was happy to do whatever I needed him to do.

Brian responded quickly to our request, but was not on the job most of the time. His guys weren't professionall at all....left big messes, cigarette butts in our driveway, cardboard and plastic outside, and the jobs were just ok. When the light fixtures were installed, there were fingerprints and dust all over them, marks left on the ceiling and the celing fan was not centered. We addressed the issues with Brian and he listened and was supportive, but the same issues kept happening. He talked a lot and gave what seemed like excuses, but he did address the problem with his guys. We asked for additional quotes in our kitchen and never heard back. I guess I will be looking for a future handyman that stays on the job site.

The entire house had ungrounded 2-prong outlets which we wanted to replace. Brian quoted much lower than other contractors to actually complete more work, so we went with him. Took two days to work through the entire house, but it was definitely worth it, and its nice being able to plug whatever we want into any outlet.

I told Brian, either in an email or directly I would settle my financing within the week and was told to send an Email when I was ready. Sent an Email twice to his wife Kelly saying it was a go and received no response. I had the right address and I was disappointed that this did not happen. I had no response and it was too late to find someone else. It would have to be spring. In the meantime the entire gutter system in the back fell completely off the house and will have to be replaced. It could have been avoided with this repair. Very disappointed

Brian responded within a day and work was scheduled . Brian and his helper arrived the day of and got to work right away. They did the wiring for our ceiling fan light switches and then installed the four fans. The job was done well and efficiently. I have recommended Brian to a friend and plan to use his company again in the future.

Very pleased. Brian responded quickly to my call and gave a quick estimate that same day. I received a detailed estimate shortly thereafter and requested that he begin the work as soon as possible. The work was done well, in a timely fashion. The tenants suffered minimal disruption to their business. I would certainly recommend Brian and will call him again if the situation arises.

Brian contacted us right away, was able to get the project started earlier than we thought. The guys he sent were right on time, very nice, did a great job! They finished in the time estimated, cleaned up, very nice to deal with....all in all, a very positive experience. Would definitely recommend Brian and his guys, and will most likely contact him for more projects when we can fit it into our budget!!

Brain and his team arrived at my house on time. The first thing that impressed me, was that they all removed their shoes. This was important because I just had my hardwood floors refinished. They, also, ensured that my floors were well protected by placing coverings on them. Brain immediately briefed his team on the details of the job; he included me in on the discussion to ensure his workers knew exactly what I wanted. They outlined the job according to what we discussed and confirmed it with me before proceeding with the job. Afterwards, they went to work. Within a matter of hours, they had removed all the old lighting, ceiling fans, and tracked lighting. The holes were cut for the new lighting. The person repairing the cracks in the ceiling even identified an area where the ceiling and the wall had a gap in it. Apparently, the wall must have bowed out and the original contractor didn't repair it. Instead they put a piece of ceiling tape and painted over it, which created an undefined line where the ceiling and the wall met. Brain's worker added sheetrock to repair the existing gap. By the end of the first day, all new recessed lighting was installed and the ceiling cracks scored and sanded. I was shocked that all the new lights were already installed and available for my use later that day. The job was scheduled for 3 days and was completed on time. Each day the team arrived at the agreed upon time and they were very courtesy and professional. At the end of each day, they did an excellent job of ensuring that everything was cleaned to included sweeping, mopping, wiping down my countertops, refrigerator, etc. I was shocked because I had just had my floors refinished and I did all the cleanup after the workers. My ceilings and new lighting look amazing and I am very happy I used Affordable Solutions by Brain. I would not hesitate to use his company for either future home repairs or remodeling.

Emailed via this site to the company on Saturday and received a response to call him Monday morning. At 8:01 am Monday morning he called me. Explained my situation...said possibly Wednesday he could be over. Suggested I get a new mail box and go from there of which I did. Heard nothing on Tuesday and called twice. No response. Called on Thursday twice asking to please just let me know if he'd changed his mind and then I could move on. I never heard anything and it's Friday 11-21 at 6 pm. Really disappointed that I couldn't just get a call saying he just couldn't do it or something came up suddenly...I certainly would have understood.

There were multiple people - all with different specialties. They came in one day and did it all. Very clean, organized, efficient, well done, and fast!

I love that Brian is so responsive, in spite of being very busy. He's also a one-stop shop, which is such a gift for busy people. He did all the plumbing AND electrical in one trip. He comes when he says he will and has the work done on time and very quickly, I was in the process of moving and getting my old house ready to rent out. I needed things done quickly and Brian took care of everything. I had tried working with another guy (one who was recommended to me personally). He was a very nice guy, but he just couldn't get things to completion. I am completely satisfied with Brian and will call him for whatever I need on the old house or the new one.

scheduled for Brian to come to my home at 4:00 on 9/22/14 for an estimate for a variety of things I needed help with. He never showed but retuned my call the next day saying he had confused the dates. I re-scheduled for 4:00 on 9/25/14. He called the next day saying his wife had been in the ER. We agreed he should take a few days to be sure things were OK at home and call me back to re-schedule. It is 10/22/14 and I have never heard back from Brian. Very disappointed considering the reviews here.

We hired Brian for what we thought would be a simple job, hanging new exterior doors.....little did Brian or we know, it would not be very simple....issues were found at every turn, The guys did an excellent job of informing us and explaining each and every issue. They were very professional, prompt, tidy and friendly. We are extremely pleased with the work they did for us! Brian went above and beyond to be sure we were satisfied...something we very much appreciated! We are so happy that we are having him do more work soon! Thank you again!
