Great. The owner, John, worked with me from design to completion. They arrived on schedule and his crew was very professional. We used Ipe wood for the deck and it turned out beautiful. I will certainly hire John and his team again for any future needs. I highly recommend.

Very friendly and easy to work with. John settles for nothing but the best. If something does not meet his standards, he will make sure it is fixed to meet his standards (i.e. replacing poor boards, sanding the deck, etc.). Love the fact that they use screws to secure the deck!

I received a very uninspired deck plan from a deck designer. I wasn't happy with the plan, but I was willing to go forward with the project just the same. Then I met John Burns. He came to my house, helped me redesign the deck and I now have a deck that is the envy of the neighborhood. The best part is that I also received all this at a really great price and I didn't compromise one iota on quality or craftsmanship. This guy and his crew are in a class by themselves.

This is the second time I have hired John. He is a great carpenter who cares about the quality of his work. He made several trips out to my home and even came to speak to the town inspector during their inspection.

First off let me say that this review is long over due. John from the start was amazing. He was at the site every step of the way. He took the time to address all of my concerns and listened to what I wanted the final outcome to look like. In the end it was all PERFECT!!! John did a total rip of the old deck, installed a new one and replaced the 2 glass sliding doors that led to the deck. There was no skimping on anything. Every detail was addressed perfectly. John also replaced my front porch. All of this was done with better quality materials and at a lower price then the 5 OTHER ESTIMATES I GOT. There is no doubt that i got the best work possible on Long Island from John. I cant say enough. I highly recommend him and his company to anyone who demands quality workmanship.

We found out about Distinctive Decks through a family friend, as well as from Angie's List. John came for the initial estimate in early December 2016. He told us what he would do and why, allowed us to see sample colors, etc. We felt he was very thorough and also personable, and his price seemed fair. He was able to demo the old deck almost immediately and we waited a couple of weeks to begin building the new deck. John was present everyday from start to completion, sometimes working alone or with one other person, and despite the elements outside (colder weather and rain). He was willing to answer any questions we had along the way and the job itself went very smoothly. Before leaving, he was sure to show us things, such as how to replace bulbs in the deck lighting should they ever burn out, etc. We are very happy with the finished product, and have received only compliments from family and friends. Thanks John for a job well done! We will be sure to enjoy the new deck for many, many years to come!

Got a few estimates but knew right away i was going with john.He envisioned the deck i was looking for and honestly his ideas were 100% improvement of what i expected it would look like.The price quoted was right in the range i was looking to spend He had many options for material to be used .Went with timbertech.John and his crew showed up when expected , he stayed in contact with me leading up to start of job and throughout. I honestly am amazed at the craftmanship of how this deck was built.A neighbor of mine tried to find something that was not done right, could not find a single thing .Job was completed in time frame that was given.This deck had added so much space and my family is loving it.I would not hesitate to recommend distinctive decks to anyone looking to add a deck to their home.Thanks John and my dogs will miss you!

I would definitely recommend Distinctive Decks! John was a true professional who created a beautiful deck that not only is very functional and comfortable, but looks very, very good. Though there were several obstacles to deal with ( permits, Fiberon materials issues) John worked diligently and persisted in getting the deck done by the day I needed it done. He put in long hours and made sure everything was done expertly. In addition, he left everything cleaned up and neat.

Excellent! I could not be happier with the outcome. From the initial interview through to completion, John Byrnes exceeded all expectations. Having endured many construction projects over the years, including a gut renovations of a Brooklyn Brownstone, John set the standard for how a construction project should go. He war prompt in returning all calls and answering inquiries. When we first met, he thoroughly explained and gave insightful options for how he would approach the project. His estimate was very reasonable in comparison to others I had received. What he also told me during that first meeting was music to my ears, and quelled all my fears from prior construction projects; 1) He gave me an estimate of his start date and duration of project, which proved to be spot on, 2) He said he would be present each and every day of the project, and 3) He said that once he started, his team would remain on the job until completed and not start other jobs, which is the most infuriating thing that many contractors do. He and his helper Harrison was punctual every day, and even worked in the rain. They were courteous, pleasant and a pleasure to have around. When the demolition was complete, he identified that the structure of the lower deck was also rotting and he thoroughly explained this to me, even showing me the condition and why it needed to be replaced. He immediately gave a very reasonable price for the additional work. The job was completed in a week's time and is absolutely beautiful!!!! John Byrnes and Distinctive Decks is the gold standard for construction projects and should be an example for all others! I will definitely call him back without hesitation for any future deck related projects.

Not only did the job go smoothly, the deck is beautiful. The craftsmanship is superb and it is the quality of work that meets all your expectations. In my line of work I deal with contractors everyday, John is great to work with. He has the answers to your all your questions and actually answers the phone or gets back to you in a timely manner. Throughout each stage of the project, from design, to picking materials and color, to the actual construction, John has worked diligently to make sure all our requests were met. He was always courteous and quick to address our concerns. His crew was also pleasant and we liked that the site was always kept in clean condition. As is always the case, there were some unforeseen issues that came up and John made sure to explain the various options of dealing with them. For example, it turned out that our old deck framing was not level. John went through extra effort to level it at no cost to us. We are very happy with the end result. John and his crew did a great job making sure everything fit together perfectly as though it was part of our house from the beginning. We love the LED lights on the steps and the railings that add a great modern touch to our deck. Overall, it was a pleasure having John work on this project and we’re very glad we chose him for the job.

It was a free estimate. They were very equal in terms of the service, and price wise. I'd say they did an excellent job. I liked that they were prompt, they were courteous, and no pressure. Design wise we were just replacing the decks as they were, this time the building would be composite instead of just wood. They made an appointment and came on time.

Pssst, are you looking for someone to construct your deck. Well then look no further, John Byrnes will be there from start to finish in all aspects of the job. Overall John is a trustworthy individual who cares about his product. We had our deck built and we absolutely love it, after a couple of days one of the decking boards developed a crack, so I sent a picture of the problem with a couple of words to John. He responded right away and had the problem repaired 4 days later. This guy is a perfectionist and really cares about his product and his clients.

John was punctual no pressure and very easy to work with. He provides a top quality deck. I will definitely have him replace my front porch decking in the future.

Went great John the owner is a really nice guy, he was recommended by my neighbor Marie who he had done work previously, she couldn't stop talking about his work so I called him and he was very prompt, made 15x39 deck 2 sets of steps kona railing and lights all around in the caps, beautiful job would highly recommend

They were professional, on time, neat and tidy, helpful and very conscientious about their work. I highly recommend them.

The day the work was to take place a dumpster was delivered along with the proper town permits. After demolition was completed the material was delivered promptly to begin construction. The project took about 2 weeks to complete. While the work was being performed, John was here the entire time doing the work and was always available to answer any questions we had during the build. He always made sure my wife and I were satisfied with every aspect of his work before he continued. John Byrnes is extremely meticulous with his work and makes sure everything is as the customer wanted it. He had some concerns with the Azec material delivered since it had separate lot numbers. So he had the Azec Representative come to the house to inspect the material with him to ensure that color quality of both lots were identical. John made it a point to introduce Azec representative to me and made him available to answer and concerns I had regarding the product. Further along in the build he had an issue with one of the railings being installed saying there was a crack in it. I personally did not notice any crack however after the job was completed he returned a week later and replaced the said railing and at the same time treated a mark on one of the planks with a heat gun to make it uniform with the rest of the decking. Distinctive Decks did a fantastic job building our deck and John Byrnes was always professional as well as personable with us as customers. Would highly recommend Distinctive Decks to anyone and would use them for any future decking projects.

All work was done in professional manner,project started on time and completed on time. Owner John Byrnes guided us through the entire process, no delays , and his work is exceptional. We would definitely use the company again.
