Response from College Point Kitchens & Baths
THe memberwas recommended to me by a very close family member of hers in which we had done a beautiful kitchen for about 3 yrs. ago. The job was more than O.K as she puts it. It turned out fabulous and the customer was very happy with the work and the price. We still do much business with them even after her claim. We greatly value our clientele since 90% of it comes from recommendations like the member's family member. That's also the reason we have an A rating with the BBB and have maintained that rating for over 30 yrs. The member's mothers kitchen turned out beautiful. The pictures she has are close-ups of one crown moulding seam which did not turn out as they expected (which was no seam at all). Unfortunately, crown mouldings come in 8' lengths and her run was about 9 '. Of course you need a seam! With the floors, walls and ceilings being out of level it was not an easy task getting the seam "perfect". Her other complaint was about a dark spot in one of the cabinet doors. It's a mineral deposit found naturally in maple wood and occurs frequently and is the beauty of having natural wood. However, the door was replaced even though it made no sense. We then went back to "fix" the moulding problem and my men were told to leave because she felt we could not do a good job and her son could do it better. So, we left the new crown moulding there as per her instructions. To this day her mother still owes us $860.00 and the moulding is still on the floor. Unbelievable! As far as the member's deposit, it was fully refunded even though much preliminary work was done for her kitchen. That work included professional design layout, 3D drawings of her huge kitchen and island. Not your run of the mill 10'x10' kitchen but a big and complex design with much detail and all professional appliances. Countless meetings with her and her husband over the span of 6 months to discuss infinite design changes and modifications before we even asked for a deposit. The so called "huge" deposit was only a retainer in good faith for the work we completed and towards the job. No contract was drafted even though it was against our best interest, due to the fact she kept adding things to her kitchen and could not come to a definitive price until she was satisfied. We then submitted full drawings to the customer for the contractor to work off of. Our work also consisted of on-site meetings to discuss wall, window and utility placements for the appliances and kitchen cabinetry, lighting and plumbing plans. We take out work very serious and provide that service even though it's unusual. The prep work and hours put into the project was considerable and $2,500 would have been more than fair, but we were offered the standard Home Depot design fee of $100 by the husband not $1,000 as claimed. We are an honest and reputable company and stand by all or our work, Our website www.Collegepointkitchens.com shows recently completed projects and references are readily available. We feel the member issues had nothing to do with our services but were of a more personal nature. However, that does not give her the right to slander our good name and wish one day she could come to that understanding.
