It went well, the workers were polite, timely and efficient.
Description of Work: I needed a new hot water heater, as the old one was leaking and causing a small flood. they responded promptly to shut off the incoming water and they were available later in the day to replace and install a new hot water heater. While I thought the price was a bit high, (but I could be wrong) I was appreciative of their efficient and effective service. I have recommended them to my boss.

Crew came on time. They were friendly. Both the major job and the minor tunings were completed in a timely fashion, at a reasonable price. The company was very responsive via phone and email.
Description of Work: I purchased a flipped brownstone with what turned out to be a very cranky steam heat system that needed some love. Chris came in and quickly identified a major problem with some pitch issues in a section of pipe, taking care to educate and explain along the way. They also identified some tuning issues, a random valve being closed, radiators needing to be pitched properly. A busted radiator valve.

The appointment went great! There was the initial team that came out and when they ran into problems they immediately contacted Someone else within the company to come take a look. Chris came in a few hours, assessed the problem, and fixed it same day. It was such a relief to have our furnace fixed. Chris even corrected all the other issues we had. Everyone was so great and professional. And the response time for everything was nothing short of amazing!
Description of Work: We tested our furnace before it got too cold and realized that it wasn't working. So I went onto Angie's list and contacted a few heating companies. Nick at Big Apple Installations was the most responsive and the quickest to get us an appointment.

I had an ancient boiler that was probably 40-50 years old that was due for a replacement. Big Apple was just down the block from me and gave me a good quote for removal and installation of a more modern system. The removal and installation was a two-day event. On the first day the old unit was removed and the new unit was brought in. On the second day, the new unit was connected and the system was tested. Although I wasn't there during the final installation or testing, my wife who was present said that everything went well and there were no issues. They have a warranty on the parts and labor as well. I would recommend them if you're looking to have a boiler installed.

Big Apple provided outstanding service from beginning to end on this project. Everyone showed up on time and were both professional and courteous - that is a very rare thing to find with people who work in companies these days in NYC. It took two(2) days to complete the job. On day one, it took two hours for two men to remove the old steam boiler and deliver the new boiler. On day two 2, it took seven hours for two men, Chris and Jessie, to install and test the new boiler. Nick, one of the owners, who did the original estimate was honest and gave me a good very price for the project. Big Apple also saved me over a $1000 on the project by informing me about a $500 rebate from NationalGrid that I was eligible to receive and along with over $700 in NYS taxes after informing me about a NYS Capital Improvement Program that I was also eligible to receive. On top of that, Big Apple gave me a $200 Angie's list discount. After saving $700 in NYS tax, $500 in NationalGrid rebates and $200 for Big Apple's Angie list discount, the final total cost was $6,000. I'm glad I when to Angie's List first to find this company before I hired anyone else to complete the job. Hiring Big Apple was the best decision I have made in a long time.

NOTE: This review is written one year after this service was completed as I've taken the time to make sure that this company is consistent with their work ethics and professionalism. They've been my go-to plumbers for smaller repairs and larger plumbing projects since this oil to gas conversion. I chose Nick Rosen and Chris Fusco from Big Apple Installations back in April 2015 as my plumbers for my oil to gas conversion after meeting a total of 7 other plumbers. It was clear upon meeting them that they are experts in their field by the way that they were able to simplify their answers to my questions in a way that I could understand (this took a LOT of patience on their end!!!). This was a huge project for me at the time and given the conversion was completed after the gas explosion in LES Manhattan, I was very scared that something would go wrong. Fortunately, Nick calmed my nerves and made sure the process went smoothly for me and without much disruption to the tenants in the building. There were several items that needed to be coordinated for my oil to gas conversion: 1. Gas company needed to come out to expand the gas lines 2. Oil tank needed to be drained and removed 3. Old boiler and water tank disassembled and removed 4. Installation of the new boiler, water tank, and gas meter My responsibility was to make sure that my tenants were notified of the conversion the day that it happened. Nick and his company took care of everything else. I don't know how they did it but my conversion flowed like a beautiful symphony the day that it was completed. Nick handled the paperwork for # 1 and a company they subcontracted took care of #s 2 & 3. Nick and his crew handled # 4. Jesse was my project manager and he made sure that everything went according to plan. To this day, I love opening the door to my boiler room and seeing the shiny new boiler, water heating tank, and the little water expansion tank. The work was meticulously done with care to make sure that there was no debris left behind in the basement or backyard. I'm so glad that I converted to gas, the amount I save by not paying for oil flattens out the cost of this conversion after a few years. Plus, Big Apple Installations completed the rebates paperwork for me! No other plumber offered that simple service -- trust me, I spoke to 7 other companies! Without hesitation, I highly recommend Big Apple Installations -- they've been incredibly responsive and reasonable with pricing without making me sort through the useless drivel that some of the other plumbers have tried to feed to me.

Everything went perfectly. I was doing a renovation in my condo and called Big Apple for an estimate. Nick came the same day I called. Here's what I needed: -Two toilets installed -Two vanities installed -One bathtub -Kitchen sink -Kitchen sink faucet Nick walked me through everything that would have to be done. He told me he would have a written proposal sent to me that afternoon. And he did. I read and signed the contract and within 3 days Nick had a crew at my front door right on time. The men were very personable. They chatted with me while they did their work. They answered every question I had and also fixed an issue I was having with my water heater. They were very neat and cleaned up after themselves. There's no doubt that Big Apple will be my go to plumber with any problems I may face in the future. Thanks for everything, guys!

The guys were very nice and helped me out quickly when I was in a bad situation (my boiler broke a few days before Christmas). Many noise issues following installation. They came back quickly and checked and and dismissed the problem as normal and possibly the need for radiator valves to be changed. They lowered the pressure on the boiler (which is not optimal for heating the house quickly), and noises died down for a good while. Recently, noises have come back in full swing. Called two other plumbers since Big Apple couldn't seem to fix it. Both pointed out to me that boiler was hooked up completely wrong (return valve is the main problem, causing hot water to hit cold air), and they even showed me clearly that nothing in the schematic from the boiler manual had been followed. Some of Big Apple's set up is actually documented in the pictures as "what NOT to do during set-up". If I was only experiencing a few noises, I wouldn't even complain (although not insisting that it was fixed properly closer to the installation date was probably my biggest mistake, and I only didn't because Big Apple suggested it was normal for an old house and noises would likely die down). But it became so noisy, that my attached neighbors (brick houses...plaster walls) were hearing it on their 2nd floor during the night. After no response to 3 texts to my contact and 2 phone calls to the main number over the course of two months, I hired a qualified plumber, and $2,200 later, my boiler is now silent and heat comes up quicker than before. Funny enough, Big Apple was about $2000 less than all my other original estimates, so if I didn't go on the cheap, I would have saved a lot of stress!I This is particularly disappointing since I have referred Big Apple to many people, and I genuinely liked these people. I have since called those people to be sure that they are aware that this is not a company you call for anything bigger than a leaky faucet (although I wouldn't give them a cent). The moral of the story is: Beware, buyers -- not all plumbers are BOILER plumbers. And don't pick the least expensive just because they are nice...because nice usually goes away when there is a problem.

All Went well the system went down again I called and Jim came out again to fix something else another charge of $600.00 to repair a control piece to the heater. Maybe its my luck or I'm being a victim of a women customer watch out? Its like a car if you don't know much you charged extra. I just gave him $600.00 less than a month ,very professional but he never wrote out what I need for the next service a panel control system box, i believe I will look around again giving Angie List another try.

Big Apple are incredible. We are first time buyers and were very scared of this project. Chris made it easy and relaxing. He explained everything patiently and in detail. The price quoted was more than fair compared with other quotes. The finished the work really fast in only 3 days (Chris first said it would take 4-5 days). When it was done Chris took me through the entire system and through the entire house to make sure everything was working as it should. The work itself was thoughtful and smart in that it anticipates additions in the future (such as an air condition system). He even gave us a box full of replacement filters for the furnace. I cannot recommend them enough. Angie ,these guys deserve a medal!

. We needed to get an oil to gas conversion. After seeing a few plumbers we settled on Big Apple. they were slightly pricer than the rest, but in the end it worked out well. A few problems that contributed to the cost was the after we hired Big Apple, we then needed to get an architect involved because we wanted to move the boiler to another location less than 10 feet away. This process created a lot of stress and delayed the process tenfold. Primarily because the architect had to make drawings and pull permits from the DOB which is a nightmare. Added 2 months to our job. At the same time the architect and big apple didnt see eye to eye all the time. What we have learned is that its better to firest secure the architect and let him recommend the plumber/ contractor for the jobs. it works out smoother because your architect will already have a working relationship with the contractor. We also need to get our a chimney liner. Big Apple recommended a chimney contractor named Tony that they often use,. His quote was reasonable and seemed like a nice guy,, but his scheduling would change from day to day without any concern for our plans. He held us up frequently, and i assumed he had other jobs coming in so we couldn't wait any more and hired another chimney guy,, who did the job at a lower bid too. Aside from the scheduling and timing delays, when it was time to do the actual installations Nick and Chris were top notch on the job. they came in with their crew of about 4 guys and worked very quickly to install the new boiler and water heater. And their follow thru was very professional. Nick would always return our calls very quickly. And check up on us to make sure there was no problems. We did have a small issue and Chris came over as soon as possible to fix it. Again they were a bit pricey, but the work was well done and their communication and customer service is outstanding.

Went flawlessly, we had pipes that made tons of noise when heating up, and one radiator that wasn't working. They came out to inspect, offered a fix and submitted an estimate. Appointment was scheduled, they told me they would arrive between 10-11am. At 10:01 they were at the door, they installed valves and found a pipe in the ceiling that wasn't pitched properly. Since then, everything works and the silence is great. Very professional and courteous, pleasant to work with. Will definitely call again.

The boiler in my Dad's house broke down after 60 years of use. With cold weather coming and a 93 year old Dad who does not take to the cold very well, I was in a bind for someone to respond quickly. The initial quotes I received were high and no one would commit to an installation date. I called Big Apple Installations and Nick Rosen met me at the house the next morning. He not only gave me the best price but he committed to a completion date that no one else could. The boiler swap was done without a hitch. The old boiler was removed on a Monday and the new one was installed and working on Wednesday. Before Chris left once the boiler was up and running, he did a sweep of the entire house checking every radiator and making adjustments and valve replacements where needed. From the initial survey to the completion of the job, Nick, Chris and their crew were always prompt, courteous and professional. I would recommend them any time.

The work went very well. They responded quickly for a quote for services. It was written and detailed. Pricing was fair and I received quality work. Nick was very informative during the quoting process and did not try to sell me what was not needed. He answered my questions in an informative way. The work was scheduled based on my availability. The team showed up on the date and time scheduled removed the old boiler neatly and took care not to damage anything. Nick and his partner arrived the next day and completed the installation in a very professional way. They were informative, professional to deal with and did quality work to complete the installation. I would recommend their services to anyone needing boiler replacement.

They agreed to come the day after I inquired about their services. They apologized in advance for providing a wide ETA -- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m -- presumably because they had other jobs. Others might not have made such an apology. In any event, as I freelance from home, the hours posed no problem. They were friendly and polite, as they'd been in our email exchanges, and also had a sense of humor. They arrived at 10:30 and were finished in 20 minutes. Given the speed with which they worked, I know I could have done better with other providers who charged by the hour, but Big Apple was the sole plumber that gave me a fixed price based on a photo I had sent earlier. The others, who also saw the photo, would make no promises. They also appeared to have the best ratings on Angie's List when a number of criteria were taken into consideration. With those things in mind, I would definitely use them again, without hesitation.

We're sorry that you had a problem with our truck, however, we were not parked in front of your home, and the whole van wasn't on the sidewalk. It was alternate side and we had 2 wheels on the sidewalk so other cars and trucks could pass down the block. There's no way our van could have caused the damage you're referring to, especially since the work we are doing was 2 houses down from you. Instead of leaving us a bad review, you could have called our office or found the men working down the block to discuss this problem. We did try to knock on your door yesterday so discuss this matter but no one was home. Please give us a call in our office so we can resolve this problem. As you can see from our previous reviews, we have never had a problem like this in the past so we are sorry that you felt we were unprofessional. Our number is 718-934-4433. Please call us at any time. Thank you.
