+ -1 morethe job was completed and it did not look professional. I hired my contractor and he is going to redo the work and put the pipe through the fireplace (it’s a nonworking fireplace). I showed him the bill and he couldn’t believe it either.
Description of Work: I busted the return pipe from the radiators to the boiler, see attached picture. The basement flooded, their technician came and gave me an estimate, which originally totaled $6400.00. I had scanned the list without paying much attention to it, I just wanted my problem corrected, with a crying wife near me. He wanted to bust up the floor next to the boiler claiming that there may be another t underneath it. I told him he didn’t have to because all of the leads are above ground and the one I broke was below. I asked the gentleman (Thomas to go through the fireplace instead of around it. (see attached photo) He refused to do so. Cut the pipe to get an inner diameter for the pipes needed. Then said it was going to be less because the pipe was going to be 1 ¼ instead of 1 ½. He lowered the price after taking out cost of busting up the floor and using a smaller pipe. They workers he had were courteous and worked through the day to finish their work. Once finished he informed me that the radiators had to be bleed at the time the boiler and pipes were filled. I bled 3 myself. I informed them that the radiators upstairs were not being bled. He said to turn on the boiler to get the water upstairs, they left before it finished and the house became extremely hot and I turned off the boiler. I sent an email (see attached) expressing my displeasure in their pricing. I also spoke with this gentleman and told him if he had in his bill anywhere that we could have canceled at any time I would have, but since I signed a contract I was going to live by it. I never thought I would get a reply to my email as the one attached. If you see the respond to my email, I finally stopped responding to them I am not concerned with his overhead, that is not my problem but his, to take advantage of a customer because my hands were tied and he was there. Also he did not stop the leak, the leak had stopped but was dripping, I had a no hub and asked him to install it, because I didn’t want it to continue leaking, he was going to leave the pipe like that. Also note his reference to Starbucks and a corner Bodega offensive. He left the pipes hanging on 2 x 4’s I asked the plumber to strap them, he had two which still would not have been enough. Please see the bill and you will see how we were taken advantage of. The last picture is as it looks like today, my contractor will come Tuesday, cut the pipe and put it through the fire place.

+ -1 moreThe communicaton is excellent. I scheduled an appointment online and received a phone call a day later. They followed up the day of the service with a phone call and even a texted the name of person who was coming outwith an approximate time of arival. The gentleman who came to the door was very friendly and he even put bootie covers on his shoes everytime he entered my home. The problem I have with this company is their costs...and I feel totally taken advantage of after I did some research later that night. I was charged a grand total of $597 for a repair to a leaking bathroom faucet. He quoted me this before so I'm not saying I was totally surprised at the final bill but I was really shocked when he finished in 10 minutes after he explained how difficult and complex the issue he was going to fix was. Later that night I looked up the part he replaced on the Kohler website and from what I can tell it only costs $40. The final straw that led me to write this review and to explain the type of company they are and why I'm now so upset was because he quoted me an extra $300 to fix a leaking hand held shower head which I declined because i wan't ready to pay $1000 for plumbing repairs. He explained it was really difficult job to fix the hand held shower head because he would need to specially order a part or replace the whole shower head system. Gods honest truth, I went on Youtube later that night and figured out how to fix the issue myself because there was a ton of videos on the subject. I really wanted to have these guys work out but the games they play to exhaggerate the difficulty of service to justify their ridiculous prices is criminal.
Description of Work: Needed to fix a bathroom faucet handle which wouldn't fuly turn off the water.

+ -1 moreNeed to improve customer relations. I called on Friday around 5, right after one of my tenants reported a serious issue. I explained it to the operator who picked up (I wish I remember his name) and explained my issue. He said that someone will call me back, I asked around what time would they call back and could they come same day. He arrogantly repeated "sir, someone will call you within two hours". Well the weekend passed, I got my problem fixed by someone else...come Monday morning at 9:50 and they call me back asking about my call from Friday. Bad way to do business

+ 0 moreWe've used a Good Plumber's services a couple of times. Both times, Thomas came out to help us with plumbing issues. He's punctual, very friendly, and professional. First time was to detect a leak in our shower pan, so that we can determine where the leak was, in order to get the insurance company to reimburse us for the bathroom repairs. The cost for this work was very reasonable. He basically only charged us for the dispatch fee. The second time was for unclogging a slow draining bathtub in other second bathroom. He did a great job and now our bathroom drain works really well. The cost was $374.57 and that includes the dispatch fee, plus the Angie's list discount. I was hoping that it would be around $200, but I guess plumbing work is always more than you'd expect. No complaints about the service provided though. Punctual, friendly, and professional. I would definitely call them for any plumbing work that I cannot do myself. We trust them, and we think they are great.

+ 1 moreWanted to get an estimate to to convert an oil burner and hot water heater to multiple gas units with all new piping and radiators. The girl on the phone went into a whole speech about their company and tried to sneak in a $59 charge for the estimate, again I needed no work done just an estimate and she wanted to charge... Stay away from them if you don't feel like being taken advantage of before they even walk through the door.

+ -1 morePretty bad!! We originally called A Good Plumber a month earlier to come out and they never showed up. I actually stayed home from work to make sure I was home to allow the plumbers to gain access. After calling a few times, someone finally called me back. They proceeded to tell me they were sorry but that their plumbers got called away to another job and couldn't make it to my job. They said they would wave the fee for the next visit to evaluate our job. We re-scheduled them to come, this time my wife stayed home to let them into the house. They ended up charging me $565 to cut open drywall to tell me we needed to replace the whole over flow drain line. At that rate, they cost $282.50 an hour just to do an evaluation. I'm not even sure what the $89 fee is for that they waved when they didn't show up the first time. On top of all that, A Good Plumber never even called me back to actually schedule anything or discuss the evaluation I've used them in the past, and although they are pretty expensive, they have done quality work. I"m not sure what happened this time around, but we're going to go with another provider for fixing this issue. Like I said, they've done some really quality work for uis in the past, although very expensive, but this visit was a bust. Maybe next time.

+ -1 moreA Good Plumber? No. A GREAT PLUMBER!!!! Omg. From the first phone call with Marianna everything was awesome. It was like talking to a friend who really cared about my plumbing problem. Not only did she schedule the appointment but a few minutes before the guys came I got an email to say they were on their way WITH A PICTURE of the plumber!!!! Can you beat that??? I had to be at work so Marianna kept in touch with me. She gave me an estimate and description of what had to be done and why and asked if I wanted them to continue. I have an old house and wasn't surprised that the pipes under the sink had to be replaced. Since I couldn't be home Marianna kept me apprised of everything that was going on. Not only that but they sent pictures of what they did! When I got home from work tonight I found not only the new pipes but they CLEANED THE SINK , left me a brand new strainer and the sink and everything was better than when I left it. I can't say enough about my experience with A Good Plumber, Inc. they are awesome. I will never call anyone else! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! A "B" for price because I know plumbers are expensive but I couldn't be happier.

+ -1 moreWarren, the technician, was excellent at communicating arrival time, upfront about charges, pleasant, neat (he put on booties before entering the apartment without prompting and cleaned up after himself), and in general extremely professional. He seemed to be intelligent and experienced, methodically eliminating possible issues. Once he diagnosed the problem (split pipes on the roof and a faulty shower tray), he quickly replaced the split pipes and promised to get back to us with an estimate for the far more invasive job of replacing the shower tray. Prices were on the higher end, but given the caliber of the techs (and I assume the licensed plumber heading the operation), prices were justified. The dispatch fee ($69) was more reasonable than some unlicensed operators working out of Manhattan. We'd hire Warren again in a heartbeat.

+ 1 moreA leaking sewer pipe prompted a call to A Good Plumber Saturday morning. The owner called back to guarantee the reliability of his workers; all licensed plumbers with years of experience, bonded and drug free. The young man who arrived was his son, who very quickly diagnosed the problem and snaked out three sewer lines, making sure they were clear before closing them up again. An enzymatic powder was spread on the floor to destroy sewer bacteria. All in all, in about two hours the problem was totally eradicated, efficiently and tidily. I totally recommend this company.

He even put those little booties on his feet so he didn't muck up my floors which he gets extra points for. He quickly assessed problems with both my toilets. One just needed a part and the other needed to be replaced. But he did give me the option of an estimate to fix it, instead of replacing it all together. He fixed the first toilet on the spot and we made an appointment for the next day for him to come replace my old toilet. He was on time and did the work quickly, cleaning up afterwards before he left. Plus I liked the fact that they took credit cards and worked with iPads. It made everything quicker and easier. Would def call this company again!

That plumber gave me an estimate of $390 to replace the valve. A Good Plumber told me that simply to patch it would be $400. Then they charged me $75 for the estimate. Ridiculous.

+ -1 moreHe arrived when he was scheduled. I thought the problem was a disconnected or clogged drain tube from my washer dryer. Jose thought it was more likely the 2 inch drain and not the tubing of the washer. He disconnected the tubes and blew out the drain pipe without having to move the machine out of place. He then brought in a hose to be able to run hot water through to make sure there was no leakage. Total time was about 1 hour. The company has a price list on a tablet that they show you before the work is started so you can agree or not. There is a consultation fee of $109 for coming and evaluating. It was worth it. Jose was clean and wiped everything up.

+ -1 moreNow that our renovation is finished, I am finally getting around to reviewing the plumbers and contractors that we worked with. So the reviews will be about work done in the early to mid part of 2014 We had a shower pan that had a leak, and the water spilled under the floors into the adjoining 2 bedrooms. This caused major water damage that required hardwood floor replacement of both of our bedrooms and gut renovation of our bathroom. We filed a claim with our homeowner's insurance, and they were putting obstacles in our way, making it difficult for us to get the needed funds to repair the damage. Before digging up the shower pan, they wanted proof that it was the shower pan that was leaking, not some pipes, etc. So I called the Good Plumber and Thomas came out to help us. We also called a technician from another company that deals with water damages and had access to infrared imaging device. Thomas filled up the shower pan and ran the water, while the technician with the infrared device looked for the source of the leak. After a while, they were able to see the leak originating from the shower pan. Mission accomplished. Thomas from Good Plumber was great! He was professional, extremely friendly, honest, and very knowledgeable. Their prices are reasonable, and they are very responsive. Next time we have any plumbing issues, we will call Good Plumbers before calling anyone else.

+ -1 moreDan was the plumber - he was early on the first day (he called to say he was on his way), was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. He was unable to do the work on that day because the valves in my apartment were broken and it would've been unsafe to do the work without shutting down the water. We rescheduled and he did the faucet replacement for me and replaced the valves for the building. He did a great job and the faucet is a much higher quality faucet than I had before. It works perfectly now with no leaks. Mariana in the office was a pleasure to work with, very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend and would use them again.

+ 2 moreJose came,?appeared to be?very nice, but never replaced the rubber washers for the meter that National Grid had left. I offered them to him, but he refused to use them. He began to downgrade my gas pipes, even though they still look new, and Nat Grid said my gas pipes were in good condition. I stood my ground in relaying to both Bill and Jose that Nat Grid stated that this was a simple job of replacing the sealant or compound at the pipe joint, and replacing the thermocouple. Bill told me I should wait for his father the 'master plumber' to look at everything on Monday, November 3, 2014, before they proceed to do anything else. (THAT'S A WHOLE WEEK!) The 'job', Bill stated could run me upwards of 3,500.00! Bill kept?using Jose to search?for things that was not to his perfection. All I wanted was heat from an older model Crown boiler, not for some plumbing company to pad the bill by trying to remove my pipes. I had a master plumber, who sells boilers, and owns his own?plumbing?supply store look at the boiler. I also provided him with all the extra details that Bill gave me.?The gentleman?agreed with Nat Grid.?I am upset that Bill would try intimidate an older woman such as myself into giving him 300.00 to check for a gas leak that Nat Grid had already checked. On top of all that he used titles of different people that could come to my house and cause me trouble! At present, I am sitting in a cold house, with no heat, hot water, or cooking gas, and elderly tenants, one of whom has Agent Orange. I am also raising my 14 year old grandson who has a disability. HE NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING! How dare he offer to keep the 300.00 and we part as friends? He needs to complete what was started or refund my money.
Description of Work: Never performed the system maintenance that I paid for, which was 214.00. Charged 300.00 for a service that National Grid had already provided. Nat Grid tested my whole line for gas leaks, found one and shut the gas off.
