Started with a general internet inquiry. Trevor Whitfield, salesperson for Alliance Moving Services, responded by phone and said all of the correct things. (I never noticed that he only would correspond by phone until after the fact). Of course, all of the things that I wanted him to say (and believed) turned out to be lies, so if you're told to expect a call a couple of days before your "move window" letting you know which day the movers will be there, you won't get a call and the company will deny any responsibility for giving you a call. If you're told that your stuff will show up in 2 (or even 3) days, it's a lie. The contract that you'll sign will give the company 21 days, and they intend to take all of it. I spoke with the company over a dozen times, starting 4 days before the move, when Trevor promised we'd get a call. They could tell us nothing in advance. We were told that the day before the move, the mover would give you a call. At one point, I spoke with Jon Edwards, supposedly the President of the company, and he told me the moving company would not be able to move us in the "move window" which was in the contract. Instead of remorse or an apology, I received instructions on what I should say to our new home buyer and the closing company about needing a few extra days. Suffice it to say, we were not given a few extra days by the buyer, we had to rent a separate U-Haul and move ourselves into the U-Haul, and then wait for the movers to show up a day late. When the movers showed up a day late (the movers hired by Alliance because, I suspect, other plans had fallen through) they were out of Dallas, and instead of taking our furniture to WI, which was what Trevor committed to over the phone, they were told to take our belongings back to Dallas, and then move them up within the next 2 - 3 weeks. Because we were outside of the contract (they showed up a day late), and because we had already packed everything into a U-Haul, we decided to move ourselves. Alliance then threatened to withhold our downpayment because - according to Alliance - we refused the attempt of the movers to move us on the contracted day. Here's what happened - after we loaded our own U-Haul and went through closing on the house, we received a call from the movers at 8pm. They had just arrived in our town with another load, would need 2 - 3 hours to unload that load, and then would be exhausted. They asked if it would be okay to move us the following morning. At this point, it didn't make any difference to us, so I approved their request. Alliance is taking the position that since I did not insist that the movers move us at 11pm at night, I was responsible for the day delay. Be very wary of this company - trust nothing that is said, and read your contract very carefully. The company knows this contract well, and will constantly throw the contents back in your face, and takes absolutely no responsibility for anything their salespeople say.
Description of Work: Contracted to move us from Bella Vista AR to Madison WI. They failed to show up in the two day window that they contracted to, and then told us they wouldn't be able to move our stuff directly to Madison. Rather, we'd see our stuff in 21 business days.

On the evening of the 30tfh I received a phone call that the movers would be by at my house between 7am and 9am. On the day of the pick up 9 am came and went with no movers. I called Alliance and they said I need to sign a e-contract add on as opposed to the paper copy they had aggreed to before. I did so and emailed it back. The movers would be there by 11am. Noon came and went, no phone call no movers. 3pm same thing, no call no movers . At 5pm movers call and say they were on the way, would be there in 20 minutes. At 6:30 they show. Load up 8 boxes, a bike, coat-rack, footlocker and 2 desk chairs. There was no furniture,no pianos nothing big. Just stuff for a kid moving into a college dorm room. I thanked them and got hit up for a tip. I wouldn't begrudge the tip except they were 11 hours late. Little did I know this was the easy part. Alliance told me they could gaurrente a date for delivery but a couple of days . They promised me either the 5th or sixth of Feb. Mr Mike Kahn said that my daughter had to be avaliable all day the 5th. The driver would call the day before and 30 minutes before they would show up on the day of the move. If there were any changes they would give us a call. The 4th came and went no phone call, the 5th no phone call ,no movers. Nothing all weekend. I called and and no answer at Mr.Kahn phone. I called left a message on the number on my movers receipt. No one called either my daughter or me back. Monday the when I called Alliance and aske to speak to the genteleman who had arranged my contract before I could tell them his name they told me he no longer worked in that department. How they knew that without knowing who I was or his name raised a red flag. I asked to speak to her supervisorn and was told that was the head of the company and he was not there. I asked for his phone number if she couldn"t connect me and she said" You wouldn't call up ATT and expect to speak to the owner would you?" I explained that either the company is small enough that her direct supervisor was the owner as she had said or if it was big enough to be compared to ATT she had a supervisor between her and the owner. Which was it? She said it didnt matter I could not talk to anyone else. I never used foul language or was rude.I have called back with no luck. They have $1070 and my daughters things and no one will tell me anything. I didnt know until the movers showed up with a different name on the paper work that these guys are just brokers. Mike Kahn kept saying our driver will call you etc. What a SCAM, be careful. I found out my experience is not unique.
Description of Work: Agreed to move my daughters things across country from my house to her college. They did not tell me that they were just a broker who had no hands on responsibility other than to take my money. Mike Kahn said I needed to have my daughter at site on the 6th all day or if that didn't work for the drivers then the 7th ,worst case the 8th.

We made very clear of what we had and how many boxes we had, so they knew exactly what to expect. When he got to the house he said that we had a lot more than he had anticipated. He then nearly doubled the first estimate with an estimate of $9,500. We ended up cancelling the contract and we used a U-Haul to move. They had added extra things like double wrapped packages that were never discussed prior. There is no question that they were trying to run a scam.
Description of Work: They were to give an estimate for how much it would cost to move. We contracted to move with that estimate of $5529.10.

use these people.
Description of Work: They contracted to move our belongings from Chicago to Richmond VA. Pickup was ok but they should have told us there was an extra charge for shuttle pickup in our area, but glossed it over. the trick is that they do not do the actual moving. they farmed it out to some fly by night outfit in Maryland called "econovan lines. I am sitting here waiting on my belongs to be delivered as promised, but nobody at econo answers the phone, and the idiots up in ny are trying to tell me that my contract says they have 21 days to deliver it???!!!!!! Never, NEVER

My bank stopped the charges and contacted me after they tried to charge the $20k on my credit card. The guy even posed as his supervisor and tried to tell me that the DOT website was not accurate. The website was updated the day prior.
Description of Work: The company tried to pass themselves off as an established carrier to transport households across the country. I looked them up on the Dept. of Transportation website & they were not an authorized carrier. They gave me a hard time about refunding my money. They also tried charging my credit card not only $850 for a security deposit, but also $20,155 and claimed that it was an error. They told me that they move more than 900 households per month, but the DOT showed only 2 vehicles on file, their operating status was "Not Authorized", and thier Carrier VMT was outdated.
