John Hawkins Construction

I found John Hawkins on Angie's List and after getting bids from two other sources, went with Mr. Hawkins as the installer of the Sierra Pacific Windows. His bid was lower AND he included the stucco repair that would result from having the windows enlarged to meet fire codes. There was about a 4 week wait for the windows to arrive, and a brief delay after that as John Hawkins finished up other projects and came over with Alejandro and Alberto, his installers. They began by replacing the windows in two little used rooms so that they could get an idea what kind of condition the house was in. Finding the house is good shape, they enlarged the window opening to accommodate the larger sized windows...this created an unavoidable amount of noise and mess which Allejandro and Alberto did their best to minimize. Once the side rooms were finished, they began work on the bathrooms, then the main bedrooms while my 90 year old mother and me were shifted in turns into the spare bedroom. John Hawkins and his crew took great pains to make sure that she was as undisturbed as conditions allowed. John even brought daffodils to make ammends for the noise. Allejandro and Alberto did thorough and very careful work and did it as quickly as possible. All the new lumber was weatherproofed and lined with weatherproofing material where needed. Wood frames and sills were installed on the interior(Allejandro did a very good job of mitering and fitting the sills). The interior wooden sills and frames were then stained to match the floors and doors inside the house The interior stucco around the new windows was patched, carefully to match the existing texture. I should add that this work was done in December and January, without complaint, under some very cold conditions. . The whole process was, by its nature, unavoidably disruptive, noisy and messy.John Hawkins, Allejandro and Alberto did thier best to make it bearable and I would welcome all of them back as guests any time. Allejandro deserves special praise for his professionalism and exacting craftsmanship! There are 5 more windows and two doors that John Hawkins and Company will replace this summer. They will then rplace the old wooden lintels with cement board and do some general exterior patching. Next winter I paln on having them remodel one of the bathrooms. There is a lot of work to be done here, and these are the guys to do it. They did a thorough job of cleaning up...even tidying up some areas that they hadn't messed up in the first place(honestly...I WAS going to get around to it sometime!).

I just called Mr. Hawkins; he sent his plumbing person out the same day. The work was done quickly. I even got a senior citizen discount. I was very pleased with the whole experience. I would definitely recommend and use this contractor again.

I can't say enough good things about John ... he is the best contractor I have ever used. He thinks things through, wants to save me money, responds promptly and researches solutions, going so far as to call the manufacturer of my furnace to find out what was wrong. I live out of town and he is totally trustworthy not to rip me off with phoney makework. He does little extra things without being asked, and always cleans up.

My windows were leaking a lot of cold air and they couldn't be closed--this was an emergency with the cold weather and I didn't have time to order new windows and have them installed, so John offered to seal them in the meantime. I was expecting the sealed windows to look terrible, like some boarded-up house, but they were actually quite presentable after he was done. The service was very prompt. His schedule seems more flexible than most contractors I've dealt with in this area.

John Hawkins was very professional, was at the worksite every day and made sure that the job was complete and we were happy with it. We are very happy with John and would definitely use him again.

We were having some trouble re-lighting our boiler for radiant heat. John came out quickly and not only re-lit the boiler, he showed me how to do it, and let me do it while he was here. I really appreciate that John took the time to help me become more self-sufficient. John also suggested some things in our boiler room that will need servicing, come spring. But he did not pressure us to do any of those repairs now. John even gave us a special offer because we are Angie's List members. Overall I'm very satisfied with John's service.

This job went smoothly from start to finish with John staying on top of the situation at all times. I didn't have any problems with anything that was done and was very pleased with the final results.

John was very responsive to my initial call, did not baulk at being asked to fix the mess that another handyman had made of the job, was professional, friendly and the finished product is great.

I was unable to go to the property myself, or meet with him in person; we had to correspond by phone and email. He took care of the job with a degree of enthusiasm and thoroughness far beyond what one would expect from a plumber. He was prompt, stayed in close touch, and, as far as I can tell (I haven't inspected the job myself) took care of the problem nicely. He also communicated with the local water company and may have played a role in getting a big water bill reduced.

I found John through Angie's List. He got back to me very promptly. He initially took a stop-gap approach, which was fine. We later arranged a time for him to return to really fix it. And another time to do the necessary cosmetic work that needed a few days wait before completion.

Very well. John was very prompt and had the problem solved in no time.

At the distressing moment that we discovered we had a major water problem in our home, having an introduction to builder John Hawkins was the greatest gift. He came promptly and confidently assessed the situation and laid out the plan for making the home we love whole again. He is a no nonsense kind of guy who communicates each step of the way. This was especially reassuring since we are only in Santa Fe part time and couldn't watch the repair process first hand. He is efficient and reliable. His work is meticulous and timely, as we immediately recognized when we saw a recent job he had done.He is very accomodating about special requests. We have already asked him to do some additional work and he will be on the top of my list for future projects. A very positive experience!!!!!

Overall, both projects excelled our expectations and we would hire John Hawkins Construction again for future jobs. Our search was through "word of mouth", references and visits to observe the process and progress of Johns Hawkins remodeling projects. He was very generous about references and everyone (8 visits or phone calls) had very complimentary comments about his work and his sub-contractors. We got on his list and he kept in contact with us, advising on what we could do to expedite the delivery of our choices and materials; so they would be ready when he was ready to begin the job. There are many things that can delay completion, so we were glad to have that advise before the problem-solving began. He stayed very close to his estimate and was patient about any changes that we made along the way. He has a tremendous work ethic and is a man of character and integrity but he can be intense as he micro-manages multiple jobs at one time. Be Patient, he never forgets what needs to be accomplished. We brought in John based on Angie's list reviews to remodel a bath and fix problems due to water leaks from the old bath. He confidently identified the scope of work, worked with our designer to complete specifications for the remodel and gave us an estimate. He made sure that designs were workable and had to work out many issues with the designer on the tile work. He was extremely flexible in his scheduling of work as there were several delays on delivery of the tiles and plumbing supplies. John kept us informed throughout. His work was very professional, he has an excellent attention to detail, and we felt confident throughout the process that the project was in good hands.

John came over the same day I called and told me to save money by getting the part I needed through the faucet company because their parts had a life time warranty. Got the part a week later and called him. He came by the same day and fixed it. Turns out, the shower was originally put in backwards and that was why it had stopped working. Thank you John!!

My water heater developed a slow leak and I called John based on his ratings on Angie's List. He responded promptly, and gave me good advice on the most sensible replacement. I bought a water heater based on his recommendation, and he and Alberto installed it. The work was done to a higher standard than I have come to expect from plumbers. He charged $275 plus the cost of parts, and the results are well worth it. I recommend him highly.

Water heater broke on Friday, spent the weekend with only cold water, called John Hawkins early Monday, he postponed another job because he felt mine was an emergency (even tough I never expected or said the word emergency). Mr. Hawkins rushed over same day, early Tuesday he was working on the heater, by Tuesday at 3, he was finished. He went above and beyond required job by installing updated plumbing and parts and by installing an energy saving water heater, he was extremely considerate of price and my situation.
