Description of Work: Mr. Hawkins returned my 1st phone call and inquiry. He did not return my follow up call.

Description of Work: Remodel two bathrooms. In addition, corrected several other small problems around the house.

Description of Work: Repaired two areas of American clay accent walls where a previous handyman messed up when trying to repair. The areas had to be completely redone. The American clay application is a process where the powder material is mixed with a white powder mixture and a sand mixture with small amounts of water to get the correct cosistency and color. It was a matter of applying approx. 15 samples of mixture to a test board to arrive at the matching colors. The colors were applied and then sealed with Okron sealer to make the hearth area by the fireplace more durable and water resisitant. Mr. Hawkins and his employees were diligent at this task to get it done correctly. This whole process was very time consuming. They also had to remove clay accent stains from the off-white carpet in the area, where the previous handyman stained with the red clay accent. My second story deck boards were re-secured with new long screws as a previous roofer did not finish the job correctly. An electric meter and breaker box were better protected from the weather and elements by creating a flashing runoff and caulked around the boxes for a better seal of the areas. Re-glued several pigeon spikes on second story window bases. Checked on several indoor doors for better closure at the latch area.

Description of Work: Had originally contracted with John for complete master bath remodel. In addition to that work, he and his crew did extensive revision of electric, cable and phone wiring. Also, custom carpentry in living room and kitchen. Shortened doors to accomodate carpeting, repaired screen door, replaced door handle, installed lighting fixtures, installed closet organizers, and general repairs too numerous to list.

Description of Work: Mr. Hawkins replied immediately on a Saturday night when a friend who operates an animal sanctuary east of Santa Fe called me in Los Alamos about a water pump emergency she was experiencing. As a friend and not any sort of repair person, I promptly referred to Angie's List and found Mr. Hawkins's name and business among the best listings. He kept in touch that evening and called my friend as promised at 6:30 a.m. the next morning, a Sunday, to help her get the right service and repair. He followed up with calls to me after he visited the site. We were very impressed by his conscientiousness and dedicated customer service.

Description of Work: Drain from home to sewer apparently blocked with dirty water coming up in sinks, bathtubs. Was told I probably had blockage in my pipes. Called numerous Angie's List people along with another company recommended by my general plumber. John Hawkins had such good feedback on AL that I left him a message, and he called me back first thing in the morning.

Description of Work: Had an emergency water leak under the foundation.

Description of Work: When our plumber, who was supposed to install a boiler and water heater in our new house, failed to appear or return calls for a month, we had the good fortune to call John Hawkins Construction. He came to see us within a few hours with his plumber, and they carefully evaluated what we needed to have done. He spent a whole afternoon at our house and plumbing supply house researching what equipment we already had and what was needed to get heat into our house. Because of the complexity of the installation, he contacted another plumber who was more familiar with our new boiler, and ascertained that he would be available to work for us. His ultimate recommendation was that it would be best for our original plumber to finish the job, and to give him a deadline to do it. If he did not appear, John would have his plumber begin immediately. When faced with an ultimatum, the original plumber made arrangements to finish his work. Although John did not do the job, he did give us great service and advice. He followed up many times by phone and email...and asked for no payment for all of his time. We would definitely call on John again!

Description of Work: Repaired leaks in hot water heating boiler. Replaced leaking flexible copper lines with flexible stainless steel. Added shutoff valves to facilitate future service. Replaced faulty shutoff valve. Added remote control for recirculating hot water pump. Drained and flushed hot water heat lines. Replaced expansion tank that was water logged.

Description of Work: Called John for quote on plumbing work in our cellar. We are re-modeling the two cellar rooms to make one a functional utility room for washer/dryer and storage, and the other to be a multi-purpose room. Job included moving and installing a new manifold for radiant heat with new valves for each zone, and moving some copper piping around to facilitate the installation of a new ceiling in the cellar to insulate the radiant heat lines from above.

Description of Work: John Hawkins Construction provided site grading, layout, concrete foundations, slab, and erection of a 34' by 16' steel building on my property. He also pulled the construction permit and scheduled the inspections.

Description of Work: The following items were the reason that I contacted John Hawkins Construction: 1) The toilet wasn't flushing properly 2) The ice maker on the refrigerator required plumbing up to a water source 2) The automatic horse waterers were not working properly The horse waterers require new valves, which required special order from the manufacturer. John's plumber tweeked the waterers so that they would operate better. After watching Alberto, I can replace the valves myself when they arrive. The ice maker plumbing was the last thing that was completed. The end of the day was fast approaching, and Alberto completed this task quickly, but without any problems. The ice maker and water dispenser work as they should now. The toilet is the big reason I called John, and Angelo diagnosed the problem relatively quickly. He made some attempt at repairing the old toilet, but in the end it was too far gone. Alberto and I drove to Home Depot to purchase a new toilet, and Angelo installed it. It has worked as it should since then.

Description of Work: John Hawkins performed two projects for us. He initially did a fabulous and prompt job rescuing our home from an internal flooding event. He pulled out all the mold and damaged materials and rebuilt where needed and replastered. He did it ahead of the schedule he promised. He was very responsive, accomodating, detail oriented and meticulous. We feel he restored our place to its former state and we have strong confidence in him. Subsequently he replaced a broken window and window frame that someone else had done a terrible job replacing. He went to the trouble to get the proper match and the work was again beautiful. He then inspected, repaired and protected the canales and outdoor trim and overhangs. Sight unseen by us, he selected the color and we loved it. He would be the first person I would call for anything for my home in Santa Fe.

Description of Work: Drywall replacement/repair in garage and kitchen; texture and paint in kitchen.

Description of Work: 1. Plumbing -- installed new bathroom faucet; replaced cartridges in shower faucet and eliminated leaks. Adjusted other faucets; evaluated all plumbing in house. 2. Electrical -- Installed new light switch. 3. Tile -- Prepared and installed tile over shower. 4. Roofer -- Received estimate.

Description of Work: It was an unusually rainy day in Santa Fe, and I woke up to a dripping in my living room. I called John, but he was already inundated with calls from people having similar roof leak problems. John not only took my call, but he referred me to a trusted colleague, Dan Chavez.

Description of Work: They repaired drywall in two separate bathrooms where tile had been removed. They then matched the finish in each bath, one smooth and one pebbled.

Description of Work: Sewer line was replaced from the house to the city main sewer including a new backflow preventerand a new tap at the street. A big hole had to be dug at the house end a trench from there, all the way to the street. Old iron pipe was removed and new PVC has taken it's place.

Description of Work: John re-arranged his schedule so that he could repair our garbage disposal/backed-up drain problem. His work is very good, and is fairly priced. We will indeed use him again!

Description of Work: John Hawkins Construction is currently working on the addition to our house. He built a free standing shed for us, did work on two patios and he also did a shower for us.

Description of Work: I have a seating area in my shower. The grout had cracked and pulled away from the tile. John Hawkins crew found my problem, reconstructed the seating area, replaced and water proofed around the sheet rock and then replaced and retiled the area.

Description of Work: I am in the process of using John Hawkins Construction now. He is putting in a hot water heater tank and doing some plumbing. It is several days of work.
