The team was easy to work with and very attentive to details. They are proud of the work they do and it shows in their craftmanship. The project did go over the estimated time frame of 45-60 days but in such a large project it was not unexpected. I feel that in an older home the "hiccups" were normal and not out of scope. At the end of the project I was happy with the outcome and am excited to enjoy my "new" house.
Description of Work: Home remodel. Removed front of house, added on 9 ft to full front of residence. Built new roof, new walls interior and exterior, added bathroom in new master bedroom. All new HVAC and updated electrical.

As everyone can see this is highly uncharacteristic of Professional Contracting's reputation, this job was completed approximately one year ago and by our reviews before, during and after this time period we only have satisfied customers and "A" ratings. These accusations are completely untrue and uncalled for. Sadly to say the reality of the world we live in is full of hateful and deceitful people that prey on the kindness of others as does this customer. Unfortunately [Member Name Removed] s house burnt down and she hired us to restore her home. Which was done better than before and in our attempts to help and extend our services above and beyond that which she was entitled to and modest allowances given by her insurance company. [Member Name Removed] sought only to take advantage of our company and it wasn't until we refused to help [Member Name Removed]Conteras commit insurance fraud that she became bitter, angry and spiteful. We had to get our Attorney, her bank and the insurance company involved to demand the release of payment that she tried to steal from our company after all work was complete, inspections were passed per Residential Building Codes. We advise all fellow contractors to beware of [Member Name Removed] We wish [Member Name Removed] happiness and hopes she will soon find love to fill her heart.

Robert Lee came to do the work. He was neat and cleaned up after himself. He encountered several problem but was very good at solving the problems being that it was as older house.
We were thrilled with the work done !!! Our original contact was with Felipe/Art and that went extremely well and our job foreman was Robert, and he was excellent. Everyone at the company was polite, responsive, and professional. I highly recommend them for any type of work - large or small.
Description of Work: Our project was quite unique in that we wanted to take the house 'back in time'. My grandparents were the original owners of the home when it was built in the 1950's. By sheer luck, we found it was for sale in late 2015 and so we purchased it. My mom had some original photos of the house, interior and exterior, and many of the interior things had not changed. Most importantly the kitchen cabinets were exactly the same as when my Grandma lived there. We talked with Art/Felipe about restoring the house to its original look and feel, and they were excited about the project. We ended up taking things out/off the house - enclosed patio, workshop, carport, 'garage' structure in the backyard, etc... The hardwood floors were beautiful and so needed to rejuvenate those, the kitchen cabinets were in pretty good shape so needed to clean those up. We also wanted all of the kitchen cabinet handles and hinges to be restored so Professional Contracting found a place that would powder_coat / dip all of them and they look very in the period. We wanted the windows restored vs replaced, and they removed years of paint and the windows (single pane, metal sash) look like new. Our whole family this thrilled with how it turned out and that the house is back in our family. Having Art, Felipe and Robert sharing our vision made a world of difference.

Enrique & Robert did an excellent job with the installation and were very helpful answering my questions. Very professional and knowledgeable. Will definitely use this company again.
From preplanning to execution, my experience with Professional Contracting has been a pleasure. In preplanning, Art and Felipe took the initiative to offer suggestions on how to bring down costs but maintain quality. They followed up quickly in correspondence via text messaging and agreed to coordinate with us in areas where we could do some of the work ourselves. We did the demo, painting, trim and door staining, and backsplash installation. Our previous architect/contractor, who was from another firm and proved to be incompetent, had incorrect measurements on the plan that required constant changes. Art, Felipe and every one of their crews worked with us as we compensated for the architect’s errors. Various crews were onsite almost every day, and some worked weekends. Robert was my on-site go-to man whenever I had a concern or a perplexing challenge. I could count on him to come up with a solution, and he designed a beautiful fireplace modeled after a picture I had found in a magazine. The project did take longer than anticipated because of subcontractor delays in the late stages of construction, so there were days in that period when no crews were on site. Subcontractor delays are not an uncommon experience in the industry, but it was worth the wait. Our project, the remodeling of a 950 sq. ft. studio/RV garage into a studio involved converting the large garage and pre-existing studio space into four rooms and a bathroom; relocating the bathroom from the front to the rear of the structure; relocating the swamp cooler from the southeast to the northwest wall; moving the furnace location from the first floor to the loft; installing 11 new windows, 3 new exterior doors as well as a new furnace, all new electrical throughout, new plumbing throughout, HVAC, new tank-less water heater, new swamp cooler, cabinetry, countertops and flooring; and applying new stucco over the entire structure. Many years ago I had designed and built a house, and I have learned that with any construction project, one can expect delays, mistakes and change orders. The important consideration is whether the contractor works with the homeowner in a timely fashion to deal with any of these occurrences. Professional Contracting did. If I requested a change or noticed something was not quite right, the response from any crewmember was always “no problem,” and the correction was made. To avoid some of these possibilities, I would suggest sending Art and Felipe lists of what is important for some of the subcontractors to know, for example a vessel sink in the bathroom or accessories inside cabinets or appliances to be used on a circuit. My son and his wife were also impressed with Professional Contracting and hired their cabinetmaker to design and build a large entertainment center encompassing one wall in their living room. They, too, are very pleased with the final product. I have no hesitation saying that Professional Contracting is a five-star company.

Art and Felipe did an excellent job helping us define what my wife and I wanted in an exterior make-over of our home. The final result is even better than we could have imagined. Professional Contracting uses a core of reliable trades people who are skilled, reliable, and courteous. We were given daily project updates, and consulted whenever decisions had to be made affecting cost or materials. Attention was given to detail, and at the end they made sure every item on the project punch list was completed to our satisfaction. We had Professional Contracting remodel two bathrooms for us 4 years ago. They didn't disappoint us then, and they provided the same great service at a fair price this time.
Description of Work: Did a complete make-over of the house exterior to include new siding, trim, shutters, and painting. Put in a new back yard concrete patio and southwest style pergola, and rebuilt front porch to include new composite deck railings and a new redwood deck.

Great! The workers were very careful in their efforts to remove the undamaged tiles w/o cracking them. We knew this would be very difficult and they saved as many as possible. We didn't have enough tiles to replace those tiles removed, so we purchased a large medallion which they installed. The cracked tile pieces were used to fill in around the medallion. They did a wonderful job and we would definitely use them again!

Working with Art and Felipe of Professional Contracting turned out to be a huge disappointment. My mother recently moved in with me and my daughter. We decided to build an addition to the house for Mom and found Professional Contracting on Angie's List. Initially, they appeared to be very professional, service oriented, and were able to show us some nice work they had completed for other customers. Even though their quote was higher than some other contractors, we decided to work with Art and Felipe because of additional services they were set up to provide. We paid them $1,830 plus tax to provide a complete set of plans for a permit to begin building. The day they presented us with the plans and the contract for signing is when things went bad. In short (for those not wanting to read all the details) they underbid, tried to con us into about $3,000 worth of upgrades that weren't needed, and refused to work with us to make corrections to plans we already paid for. Their initial bid was $49,777 plus tax which included the cost of providing the plans and permits, as well as supplying and installing an HVAC mini split system for separate temperature control, doors, flooring, plumbing fixtures, electrical fixtures and paint. By the time we made our decision who to hire, we changed the floor plan and decided to not have the HVAC mini split system. One of the main reasons for changing the floor plan was to eliminate having to completely break through the exterior walls for two bedrooms and having to rebuild the ceiling beams so they wouldn't show. In the final floor plan, the walls stay intact. In the back bedroom one window is relocated, and in the middle bedroom one window is enclosed and only a door is cut into the wall. I have included copies of the floor plans I provided to Art and Felipe. The blueprints Art and Felipe presented to us came with their ideas of where and what type of electrical fixtures we would have. We had them change the recessed lighting to dome lighting which reduced the number of fixtures needed. We also had them add some electrical outlets for user convenience. Then we looked at the pricing on their contract. With the changes made from the initial floor plan to the final floor plan, I had hoped the price would decrease some especially since we no longer wanted the HVAC mini split system which is worth about $3,000. I was quite surprised when they came back with a price of $55,755 plus tax which is almost $6000 more than their initial bid. This price included $2,200 to upgrade the electrical panel and $850 to upgrade the water heater. Felipe told me that the current setup was insufficient and illegal. We currently have 150 amps with a sub panel to handle the central air installed in 2008. Believing Felipe, we agreed that the electrical panel needed to be upgraded. We did, however, decline the upgrade to the water heater. Our water heater is fairly new and there was absolutely no reason to upgrade were increasing the square footage, not the demand for hot water. We asked Art and Felipe to make the changes we discussed on the blueprints and to give us time to look over the contract as we were having a difficult time reconciling the price to their initial bid. We also discussed doing the painting ourselves as they were charging $1,537.50 to do it. The following day I emailed Art asking him to take another look at their pricing and to check the square footage they were charging for because I noticed a discrepancy in my figures vs. their figures. A new contract was emailed to me with a note that. All previous estimates are now null and void. The new contract price was $52,152 plus tax. This contract, however, did not include the $1,830 for the plans, $1,537.50 for painting that we would now do, and about $2,000 worth of allowances for electrical fixtures, plumbing fixtures, door hardware, and bathroom accessories. The contract now stated that those items are to be provided by the homeowner. So really, when you do the math, the new contract was for about $57,520. It seemed pretty obvious that the relationship with Art and Felipe had become contemptuous so our dealings with them ended at providing the blueprints. However, the story doesn't end there. We took the blueprints to the city for review. While there, I spoke with an inspector and asked him about the situation with our electrical panel that Felipe told me was insufficient and illegal. He told me that 150 amps is more than sufficient for my house and there is absolutely nothing wrong with running a sub panel off of the main panel as long as it has the proper grounding. Mom and I were really disgusted to learn that Art and Felipe almost talked us into spending another $2,200 to upgrade an electrical panel that is apparently sufficient the way it is. The following week, the city called to let me know that corrections were needed on the blueprints. I called both the office phone and Art's cell phone only to get their voice mail. I sent Art an email. Neither Art nor Felipe responded to my email. We did pay them $1,830 for a complete set of plans, so it was their responsibility to have any errors on the plans corrected and provide us with corrected copies. As it turned out, I had to call the architect directly that they contracted with to make the corrections to the plans. He was helpful and did what needed to be done, but I never did hear a word from Art or Felipe. Since there haven't been any confrontations or accusations up to this point, I can only assume that they didn't answer my call or respond to my email because they knew I had realized by now that they had wronged us. The good news to all of this is that we now have a contract signed for $42,390 with a new contractor. Although this price doesn't include the blueprints, it does include re-stuccoing the entire house which is valued between $4,500 - $5,000. From the work we've seen of our new contractor and the fact he's held his license since 2008, I?m confident we will be more than happy with his work here. He's not on Angie's List yet, but definitely will be after completing our project. As for Professional Contracting, I'd advise people to look elsewhere. Reply to provider response -- I did not write this review to hurt the company but to inform Angie's List members. Everything I wrote is a true and accurate account of what happened. The multiple changes the provider claims are all listed in my review. I changed the floor plan. The changes on the blueprints had to be done because of the assumptions made by the company. It is true that Art and Felipe were very accommodating when helping me and my Mom pick out products from their store, and they were also helpful in fine tuning measurements for the final floor plan. In fact, people who have big budgets and can afford to pay for things they don't need would probably be just fine working with this company. I did give this company a B for Quality. Of the work they showed us, only one room was really bad showing every seam in the ceiling. The rest of their work looked pretty good. I would have given them an A for punctuality if I had received a call or return email when corrections to the blueprints were required by the city. Angie's List members can see my track record of reviews. This is only the 2nd company I have given a negative review.
Description of Work: Provided blueprints for an addition with anticipation of also building the addition.

As you can see with all of our previous ratings we have been very successful in being professional, fair on price with great customer service. This is a rare situation where a customer had been abused by a previous contractor and took it out on us. [removed name] was treated kindly and with respect and given an overwhelming amount of attention. We went over and above to jump through all the hoops that she had for us including multiple changes and revisions she asked for as well as product information . She got more than what she paid for. We are sad that she would go to this extent to try to hurt our company. We wish her the best on her project and hope everything comes out well. Our record speaks for itself and we are happy and grateful for all the wonderful customers who have given us a fair review.
