It went perfectly! Ken was right on time and even called to find out if he could come a little earlier. The company receptionist (?) called one time to find out if we could reschedule one of these visits, since Ken was held up on another job that was an emergency. We appreciated that - and agreed.
Description of Work: To my delight and surprise, this company that we had used before for plumbing also does water-softener work and fireplaces. Our now-regular plumber, Ken, did both of these additional jobs for us with his usual quality work. He checked all 3 of our fireplaces and prepared them to function well now that winter is here. And without charging us extra, he discovered that our water softener had somehow become unplugged. He plugged it in again.

The people who put in the furnace ran some pipes in front of the water heater so other companies said they would have to take those pipes down, change the water heater, and then put pipes back up. When I talked to Kenny at Albuquerque Plumbing, he said he would run the pipes where they should have been put in the first place and then change the water heater. He did it for about half the price of what the other people were charging. I was very satisfied with his work and I get a good response from him every time I call.

The technician arrived close to the scheduled time. WE talked about the problem and he indicated that it could be one of two things and that 90% of the time the thumping was caused by air in the radiant heat hoses. The other problem occuring 10% of the time was a little more challenging to deal with. He drained the water from the two zones I thought were causing the problem. It was then just a matter of seeing what happened around 4 the next morning. Less than an hour and he was on his way. The following morning, and the morning after that etc, the only noise we've been awaken by is the alarm going off. Never thought I'd say it's so nice to awake to the alarm. The thumping noises have gone away.
Description of Work: A couple of the zones of the radiant heat system in our house had developed the nasty habit of making loud thumping noises when they kicked in. Unfortunately this was starting at 4 in the morning. Just a "little" earlier than we wanted to wake up. I've discovered the hard way that not all heating/ac services are qualifed to work on radiant heat systems, although they will tell you otherwise. Using Angies List I found a couple of highly rated companies but only Alb Plumbing Heating & Cooling listed radiant heat on their web page as a system they serviced. I called the company and specifically inquired about their radiant heat service specialists. The receptionist indicated they had two and that due to a cancellation one could come out the next day.

I'd turned off all heat to all zones before he came so he could feel the manifold pipes during repairs. He determined that two manifold valves were not working. One stayed a little open and one would not open. He had to order the parts. The parts came in twodays later and he came out and put them in. Both times he gave me a call well beforehand as to when he'd be here. While here, he inspected my furnace boiler and determined that an air bleed valve was not working so I had him put a new one on (which he had on hand in the truck)
Description of Work: Radiant Heat in Floor system in my 11 yr old Rio Rancho house had problems in two zones. One zone would not turn off and one would not turn on. ABQ Plumbing and Heating sent Gabe out to do the repairs.

When I called the company to set up the appointment, the woman was very nice and the technicians (two) came as scheduled. Since I couldn't take off from work to be at the house while they were there, I asked an older relative to be there to let them in. Without consulting with me, this relative asked several questions of the technicians (e.g., checking if the garbage disposal and dishwasher work), which they complied with, but these things were not part of my original agreement for the technicians to check. Then they told this relative that the entire evaporative cooler would need to be replaced and quoted her a price of $1800-$2000 to replace the unit alone. At no point did the technicians contact me or get my approval for these additional things/costs and when my relative told me what they were going to do, I immediately contacted the company and asked why it would cost so much to replace the evaporative cooler since most units only cost around $500. The company had me talk to the technicians, and when I asked them how much the unit (evaporative cooler) alone was going to cost, they wouldn't give me a price; they only said it would be $1800-$2000 "with parts and labor" (also, my cooler is on the side of my house, not on the roof). Furthermore, when I asked how much it would cost for everything to be done, they said around $2500 "including the garbage disposal." When I asked them what was wrong with the garbage disposal because it wasn't on my original list of things to repair when I set up the appointment, they said "nothing, but the lady there wanted us to check it." So not only did they charge me probably twice as much for an evaporative cooler in November when a cooler is not needed, but they also charged me their hourly rate to flip a switch on the garbage disposal to see if it worked (as requested by my older relative). Not once did they ever consult me to get my approval on these extra tasks or expenses even though I was the one who set things up and told them that it was my house. I also feel like when they saw my older relative and heard the kinds questions she was asking, they felt they could get away with upcharging or charging for every little thing knowing that she probably wouldn't question anything or know any better. Lastly, there was actually a very obvious leak under the sink associated with the garbage disposal, which the technicians never caught, even though they supposedly checked the garbage disposal and dishwasher operation and charged me for these things.
Description of Work: I had just bought a new house and the inspector identified several areas that needed repair. Most of the things were minor, including fastening a toilet down, replacing a corroded seal, and fixing a leak under one of the master bathroom sinks. The other major repair was replacing a heavily rusted stand for my evaporative cooler.

Another company had failed to correct the problem and had not warned me against using the heater in this condition. The receptionist, Debbie, was both professional and friendly and when she heard what was going on, immediately said, "Don't use it." The company was very busy, but she found a tech who was willing to come after hours and charge regular hours price and called me back to say when he would be there. Jason was very professional and also friendly. He spent an hour fixing the furnace, made sure by checking 10 times that the problem had been solved. He also told me that due to the age of the furnace (about 30 years old), he couldn't guarantee that it would last the winter because older furnaces quickly go out of adjustment. He took the time to discuss and give a ballpark estimate on installing a new furnace, advised me to get a handyman to enlarge the opening to the cupboard so the old one could be uninstalled without removing the water heater. He did all this even though he still had other calls to make. I also received the Angie's List member 10% discount. It was such an excellent experience.
Description of Work: My gas furnace was making loud explosive noises before kicking on and shooting yellow flames a foot out when the grill was off. Jason got rid of the explosions and checked the furnace 10 times to make sure that it would not do the same thing again.

I had water leaking from an outdoor faucet. I called Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling on Monday at 8am, and took the first available appointment on Tuesday, at 10. The initial phone call was handled very professionally and courteously. The plumber came to the house and looked at the problem. Due to the stucco exterior of my house, he indicated he had to cut through the drywall on the interior wall to service the leak. He pointed out that per company policy he would not be replacing the sheetrock he removed. I replied that was fine, I could do that on my own. He cut off the water supply to the entire house, and identified the problem as a heavily corroded connection between the copper plumbing of the house and the exterior faucet. He had to leave to get a replacement part but he returned in less than 20 minutes. He replaced the corroded part and provided a new faucet, restored the water supply, and ran the water to get out any air in the lines. His repair looks very well done and it is no longer leaking. He cleaned up the site very well, leaving no dust or debris. I am very happy with this service - it was done well, quite promptly, and I even got a 10% discount for mentioning that I found them on Angie's list. I felt the price was an incredible deal for the amount of work involved. I would definitely use these guys again. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling fixed a leaking outdoor faucet. A connection from the copper pipe to the exterior faucet had corroded away (it was galvanized steel not copper). They replaced the connector and provided me with a new exterior faucet. They had to cut through the drywall to provide this service.

I use a lot of contractors because I have owned a number of rentals for the past 30 years or so, many of which are older and need more upkeep. For this reason a few years back I decided to give Angie's List a try. The truth is in many trades there really isn't anyone local who's all that great. But every now and then I run across a business that truly stands out. I would definitely put Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating & Cooling in that category. There's really no one out there who's "perfect" at what they do. But there are a few who are seriously trying, who at the end of the day care more that they did the job right and that the customer is happy than that they made a good profit. In a nutshell that describes my impression of APHC. The owner wants the job perfect and the customer happy before he hands you the bill. That's the polar opposite of the typical company that wants half up front and then seems to forget you until you fit into their schedule, who tells you what you want to hear and not what you need to hear. Every now and then I run into a company that would rather earn your business than get your business and APHC [they need a shorter name, don't they?] is definitely one of them. No one gets it right all the time, but the ones who put a premium on getting it right because that's what they pride themselves in are the ones who usually succeed. What else can I say? These are good honest people who try their hardest to make you happy you chose them. And for that reason they seem very good at what they do.

From the time I first called the office until they finished the job, everyone was highly professional and pleasant. They took great care to be punctual and to bring exactly what was needed for the repairs. This involved a few phonecalls which made things go smoothly.
Description of Work: Replaced pump on boiler for radiant heat system and flushed it out. Also diagnosed why water softener wasn't working. ( another plumber turned it off to install a turn off valve and never turned it back on!) This can all be a mystery to us homeowners and it was good to deal with people who were professional and knew what they were doing. We're very pleased to have done business with Albuquerque Plumbing and Heating. I recommend them to anybody with a plumbing problem.

Where I find fault and disappointment is how he conducted himself, among other things. At no point did he ask about the clean outs, or get any information before beginning, which would have made me feel better about it. The other thing is I asked him to provide a quote for hooking up a PEX run to an existing water line. I showed him the project, and his quote ranged from 1 to 6 hours, and trying to budget for that project, $80-$480 is a HUGE range. I was very disappointed in that particular plumber's professionalism and service courtesy. The company did call be the next day to follow up about the visit, and ended up sending another plumber out to give an accurate quote for that project.I later found out that the second plumber who came out didn't know what he was talking about either, as he recommended a PEX product that doesn't exist, and was thinking of PVC rather than PEX, which is a dump mistake for a 'professional' plumber. Bottom line: problem was resolved, professionalism and knowledge was lacking or non-existent, and I WOULD NOT use this company again.
Description of Work: Our household was experiencing periodic backup of 'water' in the shower, enough to even overflow the short walls on a few instances. The plumber called before he showed up, and after describing the problem, he got his rotor-rooter out and proceeded to the clean outs. Shoving the tool down one end he accidently ran into the toilet's pipes, apparently. Shoving it down the other end, it eventually couldn't shove the tool any further into the pipe, and assuming that was the cause of the problem, removed the rotor-rooter. Nothing was visible on the end of the clean out tool, but the problem ultimately went away after his visit.

Called Abq Plumbing & Heating after finding them on Angie's List. The representative came out and gave us an estimate on all of the above mentioned services and the installation of a new evaporative cooler. The overall estimate seemed fair although the estimate for the evaporative coller was more than we wanted to spend (approx. 1,600.00). We decided on all the work except the evaporative cooler. On the day of scheduled service, Anthony was prompt. He had not been told that we had decided on the water heater installation but it was no problem. He went and picked one up. All work was performed in a timely manner and Anthony was professional & courteous throughout. All of the work met with our satisfaction and the final cost matched the estimate exactly. All of our dealings with company employees from receptionist to estimator to repairman were cordial, polite and professional. I highly recommend this company. They do good work and they follow through on what they say they are going to do. They honored the Angie's List discount as well.

My toilet was an old, unique one and worked well when all conditions were perfect. But when it started constantly running I called in Albuquerque Plumbing. The Technician found and replaced the parts. He then winterized the swamp cooler and did a service check on the heater. I had some lingering issues come up with the toilet and Efrain came out an additional 2 times to fix it. Because of ongoing issues with the old toilet, Efrain offered me a great deal on the purchase and installation of a new one. I accepted and I am very happy with it. I have to say that Efrain went out of his way to make sure I was a satisfied customer, even coming out at 7pm one time after his busy day. I will continue to use Albuquerque Plumbing and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: The primary reason for my call was that my toilet was constantly running and it was a repair I could not fix myself. And since they were coming out anyway I also asked them to winterize the swamp cooler and check on the heater. I had used Abq Plumbing earlier this year to prepare my swamp cooler for the summer and was happy with the service.

Came home from work and found the air conditioner non-operable, temperatures in the high 90's. Called the installer of the AC and was told they could be out in 6-7 days to repair. They were really great. The guy was very nice at everything. He was in and out really fast with the quote. He was professional. Only issue was that he showed up two hours early which caused a bit of a scheduling problem to try to get home for the estimate/quote. In the long run, I would rather have someone be early rather than late.
Description of Work: Albuquerque Plumbing Heating & Cooling gave us a quote last week for some plumbing work we are planning to have done. We are planning to update the master shower and re-do some pipe work that broke during the February freeze. Repairs (by different company) were patches for two seperate leaks; we want to replace the older patched copper. Quote is reasonable. I plan on having them do the work when I get my schedule worked out.

On the morning of the 26th, the serviceman called to say he had a cancellation in the morning and would be able to arrive in approximately 45 minutes. I said great. He showed up exactly when he said he would. He was courteous, quick, and efficient. He answered all my questions. The work took about 30 to 40 minutes. He cleaned everything up before he left. I was very satisfied with the service

had an emergency water line break in the front yard by the sidewalk just inside the meter. they responded immediately and sent out two workers who make the repair over the course of a day - which included jackhammering out a portion of the sidewalk and repairing the concrete after the pipe break was located and fixed. two days later the pipe broke again closer to the house, and although they were booked for the day, completed their other work quickly so that they could find the time to make the second repair the day it occurred. they were very helpful, very courteous and did great work. particular thanks to tim and ernesto.

Within a day or two of our initial call, "Efrain" from Albuquerque Plumbing came to our house the afternoon of Aug. 30, 2011 to assess what was needed. Regarding the tub faucet, he said it might need only a new cartridge, which was ~ $50. But it was his experience that even with a new cartridge it might still leak, in which case we'd have to either live with it, or replace the entire faucet, spout, and diverter package for ~ $600-$700. We decided to try a new cartridge first. As for the tee valve under the kitchen sink, there was no question we needed a new one, but he did not have what we needed with him. He determined the kitchen sink faucet was wobbling because of a broken mount, and would have to be replaced with a new faucet. We could buy one from him, or maybe save some money by picking up our own at Lowe's or Home Depot for him to install. Since he would have to come back another day to do the work in either case, we decided to supply our own. He told us exactly what type we needed to get to fit our sink. He also offered to do all three tasks for a flat rate of $175 + tax, including the cost of the new tee valve and cartridge, providing we supplied the kitchen faucet, as opposed to charging on a "time and materials" basis. That way, if it took longer than expected, it would be out of their pocket, not ours. I asked if we still could get the 10% discount offered through Angie's List, and he said that didn't apply to a flat rate quote, but that we'd likely still come out ahead of doing it the other way. That sounded reasonable to us, so we had him schedule a follow-up visit for 9/6/2011 at 8:00 am. About 8:15 am on 9/6, we get a call from Efrain that his last job the previous evening had gone longer than expected, and was still not finished. Would we mind rescheduling to the next day, so he could finish that job, which he said was kind of an emergency situation. We agreed. However, it would have been more considerate of him to have called the night before so we could have slept in till our usual 7:30 am (we're retired), rather than getting up at 6:00 am. (Violins swell in the background...) On 9/7/2011 Efrain showed up ~ 8:00 am, and proceeded to replace the cartridge, tee valve, and kitchen faucet. The new cartridge appeared to have fixed the tub leak, the new tee valve worked fine, and the new kitchen faucet no longer wobbled. The next day my wife took her first shower with the new cartridge, which had also included a new faucet handle, and realized that the new handle had much more "play" in it than the old one. Though it didn't leak, it just seemed too loose to her, and I agreed. So we called Efrain on his cell phone, and he agreed to come back the following week when he had another job scheduled in our area, since it wasn't an emergency situation. He came out the following Monday morning, 9/12/2011 and tightened the faucet handle for us at no additional charge. One last thing we particularly appreciated was Efrain's concern for our rather lightly-colored carpetting. His work boots were somewhat dirty , and on each of his three visits, with no prompting from us, he took out nylon "booties" from his pocket to put over his boots, so as not to soil the carpet. Overall, we were pleased with the quality of the work, and the price, and would recommend Albuquerque Plumbing to others.
Description of Work: We had three (3) items that needed repair: 1) our bathtub faucet had developed a slow drip; 2) a two-way, or "tee" valve under the kitchen sink needed to be replaced; and 3) the kitchen sink faucet itself was wobbling, and needed repair or replacement.

He gave me some options (either replace only the compressor for about $1,300 with a one year limited warranty, or replace the entire unit for about $2,200 and a 5-year warranty). I ended up paying for the service call (1 hour of work) and used their 10% discount coupon offered for Angieslist users.
Description of Work: Provided troubleshooting and estimate for an air conditioning condenser unit.

Overall, I've been very pleased with them. I intend on using them for the future. The prices seem very reasonable.
Description of Work: They've serviced us several times, checked out the furnace, and also done some swamp cooler work.
