Our log home needs to be stained every 5 years. My husband, friends & I have stained it twice. It took time but upon completion we did not have any issues or problems. We are not professionals. With this said.....here is our expierence. It went horrible. The stain blistered everywhere within 1 week of application on 6-26-13 & they pained our windows shut. They failed to return phones messages for 4 months. It took another 8 weeks before they came out, at which time they only looked at it & said yes there is a problem. I was told they would have to talk with the "mother" who runs the business and get back to me. That never happened. In early Nov 2013 they came to our home when we were working. They scraped spots of the exterior logs & re-stained over that area only, leaving it in outrageous condition and debris everywhere. They called my husband after they were finished & before we returned from work to say the "fixed" the problem. That blistered within a week. We called & left messages repeatedly. It took until May 13, 2014 to get a response. They scheduled appointment for 5/15/14 @ 11 am. They did not show or call. I called for 2 weeks. Finally, on 5-30 I went to their location and scheduled another appointment. On 6-2-14 Dustin (painter/owner?)showed up, looked at house, said he would talk to Sherwin Williams, get back to me & left! For 3 weeks I left messages and sent emails. Explaining that the weather was nice & dry, that now would be the time to fix the problem. He finally showed up 6-27 unprepared to do the work. He was here 20 minutes and told me job was way too much work & he would have to talk to mother to re-group & get back to me again!! He left - leaving his ladder behind!! On 7-28, 7-29, 7-31 and 8-18 I had Sherwin Williams representatives at my residence taking pictures, inspecting & taking stain samples for analyzing. The conclusion was that the stain had been applied to wet surfaces causing the problem. The solution was to hand sand the surfaces of the logs, let it air 4-5 days & re-stain. On 8-30-14 JD Painting emailed me they would be @ my home 9-1-14. They never showed or contacted me. I emailed them on 9-2 to question where were they? Reply- We didn't know you would be there on the Holiday. Finally, after several re-scheduling due to weather they came out on 9-29-14. They scrapped only certain areas leaving debris all over the yard. Did not work on anything high because they did not have the correct ladder with them. Once again not prepared to do the work. They left saying they would be back after 5 days of dry weather. Current status as of 10-27-14 - logs remain blistered, additional areas now have scrapped and/or sanded areas of logs that are different colors of stain.
Description of Work: Power wash, gently sand & restained the exterior of our log home. Re-paint all window trim. They assured us they had previously worked on a log home. By the end result - the stain blistering everywhere on the exterior and the windows needing to be pried open shows their lack of knowledge and their incompetence of working on a log home.
