This is the first time we have used a professional carpet cleaning service. I have always used our own consumer Carpet Cleaning Machine(s). Note that our house is 12 yrs old and the carpets cleaned are the originals. We have pets (Dogs) and of course after 12 years have some problem spots. However, I have always tried to keep up with this. Our carpet cleaners have gotten allot of use through the years. I did not expect that this service would return our carpets to like new condition (by any means) and did not expect them to be able to get rid of all the problem spots throughout the house. But, I wanted to see if they could do a better job than I could, and of course I expected it to be faster, than doing it all myself. 1. The (single) service tech that arrived stated that they do not really move any furniture. Yes, I should have asked specifically. Stanley Steemer states that they will move the furniture for you and presumably send more than 1 tech. Ok, so I took timeout from what I was working on (Home Office Business) to move furniture. 2. We walked through all the spots and areas that needed to be cleaned. As stated before, we have dogs, so we have some urine issues, not bad, but still. Ok, so to use the "PURT" System. to completely remove the scent in a few of the trouble spots, it would stay wet for up to 2 days and would off-gas during that time. As explained, it would probably smell worse than it originally was during that time. So I declined that service, since we had guests coming the following day. After the initial walk through, the tech got started. He was working very quickly, maybe too quickly. While he started working, I started moving furniture. I basically monitored where he was in the house and tried to move the furniture around him. If I had not done that, ONLY the easily exposed areas would have been cleaned. Note I did not expect that every square inch of carpet was going to get cleaned, but some areas around the edges of beds and seating would have been missed, if I have not moved it. Kind of like going around the drip line of the overhang on the outside of the house. Our house is not huge @ about 2300 sqft, and only about 60% was being cleaned, but the Tech was barely here 2 hours, if that. Remember, part of that time was working on a Sofa in the living room. I guess my expectation was a little more attention to detail, and to the problem areas we reviewed together during the walk through. I felt like this guy was working as fast as he possible could, and did not focus (much) on anything we discussed, unless I pointed it our again during his cleaning process. I completely get the working efficiently thing, but this guy was moving fast! The end result? Our carpets definitely look better overall, and in a much shorter time than it would take me to do them all. However @ $704 for approximately 2 hours or less of actual work time (with me participating!), I feel a little let down. At this point, even though I have not had a chance to do it yet, I will be going back over the "problem spots" throughout the house with our Carpet Machine to see what more I can get up. Again, maybe my expectations are / were too high, like I said this is the first time hiring a carpet cleaning company. If I ever do this again, I would probably give Stanley Steemer a try, to see if they can do better. (again, they move the furniture for you apparently according to their website)
