We were using him for the second time. We own an apartment in Jersey City. He repaired a leaking radiator. He was very professional about it. He used to do plumbing work for the whole house before it became a condo. He really knows the ins and outs of an old house. I am able to rely on him. He does good work at a reasonable price. He is a very pleasant person who is also personally responsive. I have dealt with a variety of plumbers, and he is the best that I have dealt with. I continue to use him because I really like the work that he does. I have nothing negative to say about him. He's wonderful. I'm glad that he's ready to be my regular plumber. He is a very pleasant surprise for me after having a couple of shoddy experiences with other plumbers.

Carmine is extremely professional. He comes with a professional team and he and his sons do top-notch work. He isn't the cheapest plumber around, but his prices were not that much higher than another quote I received. In terms of quality of work though the extra cost was worth it.

We called them at 9am and the owner's son came to do the job a few hours later. He was very polite and nice. However, he was unable to unclog our drain that had mysteriously clogged up that morning. He spent an hour doing everything in his power to unclog it, but could not do it. I heard him on the phone saying, "yes, I tried that! I can't figure it out!" He said the only recourse would be to go in through the ceiling of the condo beneath ours. I contacted the owner of that condo and he said he'd try to get home early that evening to let Carmine Jr. in. I told Carmine Jr. that I'd call him as soon as our neighbor was home. I asked him if he'd be available to come over in the evening if need be and he said that he often works late on Mondays so it would be no problem to come in the evening. I asked him how late he works and he said sometimes as late as 7. At 5 pm, my neighbor came home and so I called the number Carmine had given me. Carmine Sr. answered and said there was no way he was sending anyone back out at that hour. I told him that Carmine Jr. had promised and that our neighbor had come home early expressly to let him in. Carmine Sr. refused. When we got a different company out to work on our drain the next day, they fixed it within minutes and said that Carmine Jr. had actually broken the thing that seals the drain for a bath. They also told us that the fact that he said he was going to go through the ceiling was a clear sign that he had no idea what he was doing.

Response from Carmine P. Aumenta Plumbing & Heating NJ
Every possible attempt was made to clear the stoppage for this customers tub drain. It was finally determined that the trap that holds water for this tub was frozen due to the extremely cold weather at that time. By the time that the customer had called to let us know that the first floor tenant was home to gain access, all of my employees were on other jobs that needed to be completed by the end of the day. Therefore i had no one available to send back there. The customer was never PROMISED that someone would definitely come back later that day, but we would try to accomodate them the best we could. When the customer called back to have someone come back i promised i would have someone come first thing in the morning. In response the customer became very abrupt and hung up on me. Its unfair that she would wait for someone else to come the next day and not give us that same consideration. If you look at what actually happened here waiting till the next day gave the drain a chance to thaw out on its own which saved the expense in having to open the ceiling. Some people you can never satisfy.

We bought the faucets from another store, but the installation was somewhere around $360. Overall, I was happy with their service. They stopped by for a free consultation. They were then able to come in within one or two days to get the faucets installed. Everything about them was fine. I thought that the price was a bit expensive. I would use their services in the future too.

I called to have the plumber fix a gas leak I had just discovered in my basement. He told me he couldn't get over to me until next week..... maybe. I was told to call early this week to see if he was available for the following weekend. It was a gas leak for crying out loud!!!! Why that didn't concern him is curious to me. I asked for some suggestions and he wasn't being helpful. He could have done something at least recommend another contractor who could help out in what I consider an emergency repair. I walked away from the phone disapointed. I am an engineer in the construction industry.... specifically plumbing and fire protection. I can install about everything but, I won't do gas piping - ever. At a loss on a Holiday weekend, I was able to use compound and wrap to seaI the leak at the fitting myself. I was so put off by the lack of concern by this contractor that I will never even consider their services in the future. Too bad for them. I actually had other plumbing work I would have given them. I'll call the other plumbers to see if they can help.

Everything went very well from the moment I first contacted Carmine Aumenta Plumbing and Heating. I was alarmed to find an area of approximately 10'x10' of sewege waste accumulated on my basement floor. It was about 7pm, and we had just had a blizzard a day before. I assumed it would be a difficult task finding a plumber to come to my home early the following day, nevermind showing up that night due to hazardous roads. Out of the four plumbers I had left a message with, Carmine was the only one to return my call that evening. Carmine was polite and patient while I anxiously explained my situation. He quickly deduced I probably had a clogged sewer pipe, reassuring me I did not have a more serious problem. He quoted me a fair, competitive price over the phone, and set up an appointment for the following morning. He called me in the morning to let me know his ETA. He arrived on time as promised and proceeded to conduct the work to be done in a professional and courteous manner. Carmine was correct in his assessment of the situation. The sewer pipes were snaked, a cap needed to be replaced, which I was aware of, and he hosed down and swept the area clean. Carmine took the time to answer all of my questions, offer advice on how to handle future issues with the sewer line and my basement in general, as I live in an older home, and traveled further out of his area through bad roads. I paid what was originally quoted to me, plus the cost of the drain cap.
Description of Work: Snaked three clogged sewer drains in basement. Replaced cap for one of the drain openings. Washed and swept the area that was flooded in the basement due to said clog.

Not knowing Carmine, his company was one of several I called late on Christmas Eve 2008 after a hot water pipe broke. Christmas was on a Thursday that year and many plumbers and supply houses took a long weekend to include Friday the 26th. Not Carmine. He and his workers came that Friday, on time, fixed the problem, expressed their regret about our Christmas without heat and water, and didn't charge us a lot. He's been our plumber ever since and we recommend him to anyone who asks. We're glad we found him.

Azad came to an ingenious solution to my project, drilling the holes in the same vertical stretch of wall, with the 4" a couple feet below the 6" hole - to minimize the amount of drywall removed and to control the water and dust flow from the drilling. This was a big time and cost save as I had originally thought to put the 4" hole right by the dryer but through a 24" stone wall. He also ran the 4" ductwork through the floor, to a point where it was easy for me to run the rest back to the dryer. Azad and his assistant were very respectful of my house and worked efficiently - doing a good clean up job before they left. Finally, he was very willing to work with my budget and to offer tips for the DIY part of the job I wanted to do.
Description of Work: Carmine has a contractor, Azad, that he refers all non-plumbing related work to. I need to drill a 6" and 4" hole in my exterior kitchen wall for my stove and dryer duct and have the duct work run to each location. The dryer was located on the floor below so the duct work had to run down the wall and through the floor. The wall was 18" thick and required a water cooled Hilti drill.

Initially, I was surprised because Mr. Aumenta and his son arrived 3 hours later than expected to conduct an initial estimate, and I was concerned this might reflect a lack of punctuality. However, during the job, they were eager to start and finish the job. After their initial visit, I arranged to leave the house key in a secure location, so they could enter and leave while I was at work. Every day on site they cleaned up the workspace, and locked the house. The work was completed over 2 weeks. Also, Mr. Aumenta provided good advice on where to site the appliances, where to purchase the faucet, and a handyman to close up the holes in the wall & ceiling. This extra advice and their eagerness to complete the project on time impressed me. (By contrast, another plumbing company on Angie's List provide a 33% higher estimate, and charged over $100 for the initial estimate.) However, after the installation, the washer shook and bounced around, tearing through laminate flooring and chipping paint from walls. Though Mr. Aumenta couldn't advise how to prevent the shaking, a rubber mat under the machine seemed to work for 2 months. Yesterday, my husband noticed the shaking was worse. After referring to the installation manual, we discovered 3 bolts were not removed. The manual clearly warns these bolts need to be removed or they'll cause violent shaking and potentially damage the machine. As a result, I've downgraded Mr. Aumenta's work. Though I appreciated his professionalism and advice, I'm disappointed his team didn't remove the washing machine bolts or check the manual.
Description of Work: For our new house, Aumenta Plumbing helped us install our clothes washer & dryer, including water & waste lines, vent and gas piping. Also, for a portable dishwasher, Carmine Aumenta recommended where we could purchase a sturdy faucet, and added a faucet head adapter so the dishwasher could connect to the faucet properly. Finally, he recommended a good handyman to seal up our walls and ceiling after the work was complete.

Overall experience: Excellent!! I have an obsolete tankless water heater from lesser-known brand - Paloma - which suddenly stopped working. I called the manufacturers to see if they had any suggested repair technicians or plumbers, and they didn't have any, but they said the problem was likely one of two things - calcification in the water coils, or a worn out diaphragm (new part $45). Either way, relatively inexpensive, but the problem was finding someone with the know-how to fix it. They suggested trying my public gas - PSE&G. So I did, and he was as nice as he could be, but didn't know the system and could only make a temporary repair, which worked for a week, and then stopped again. So I called my regular plumber, and a dozen others, and none of them could work on tankless, or if they had, they didn't know the Paloma series and didn't feel comfortable tackling it. So I did research to see about replacing it with another - but the costs for a new one are around $1,000 at the low end or $8,500 at the high end - and that's without labour - and because this is an older model, I'd need to instal larger gas lines, possibly new exhaust flutes - in short: very expensive and lots of work. So I tried calling more plumbers from Angie's list and reached Carmine, who was immediately very helpful, upfront about his fees and gave a very accurate and honest assesment. He said it likely wasn't the coils, because my area has "soft" water with few minerals, so it probably wasn't the problem - it was likely the diaphragm. He had worked on many tankless heaters, and if it was a brand he didn't know, he often called the manufacturer and they would help guide him through any issues he might encounter, or as he said to make sure he wasn't "taking apart something that shouldn't be taken apart." So if I was interested, he'd be happy to come over and try working on it. He also said he didn't mean to brag, but after 33 years in the business, he knew that not many people knew how to work on tankless (he is right) and this would probably be one of my better options (he was right again -and had I called him first it would have saved me a LOT of time, research and calls to other people - and spared me taking a lot of cold showers!) So we agreed that I'd buy the diaphragm from the manufacture and have him come in and give it a try once it arrived, to save having him do two trips, and give him the manufacturer's number to call for trouble-shooting. He arrived very punctually with his son Ben and were both very pleasant, professional and down-to-business. They quickly looked at the boiler, and made a whole series of calls to Paloma and the parts people hunting down the right person who could help, and eventually found one guy who last worked on a Paloma 20 years ago. But with good humour and encouragment he coaxed the information he needed out of him step by step until he got what he needed, and then got to work. And they finished the work in under two hours! I finally have hot water again! I was so impressed by their work I had them look at a bunch of other plumbing issues for them to work on - and they approached them all in the same way - a clear, honest assesment, telling me what needs work and what doesn't and if they didn't have other emergencies that morning they would have done them all on the spot - they had all the necessary parts. So instead of paying a minimum of more than $1,000 for a new heater plus labour, my total costs were around $345, including parts - and they were super fast, professional and nice people. I will definitely use them again!

I had Carmine Sr out to give an estimate for an Energy Star rated conventional water heater. He seemed very knowledgeable about plumbing and how this job should go. I also had him estimate several other jobs including adding a ice maker water line. Carmine Jr and another helper came out to do the work. They were right on time and did a fine job of removing the old water heater, cleaning the area (it was nasty), and installing the new water heater. Everything went very well and I am very happy with the results.

Just be careful. I had him out to perform some work and thought that for the work performed didn't justify the price I paid. When I talked to people about what I paid they all said it was way too high. As a result, I went onto Angie's List and wrote a report on my experience that was less than flattering. A few hours later, I was called by Carmine Sr. and he threatened to "beat the living h*** out of me" for my review. He asked if I liked to spread lies about him, even though everything I wrote was accurate, including my opinion. I notified Angie's List of the phone call and they removed my report (their policy when these incidents happen). They also said that if he threatens me or anyone else again that they would remove him from the site. If I am threatened for this report, I will take further action beyond Angie's List. Overall, I don't know what he was thinking to threaten me for writing an opinion. Regardless though, I don't think he's a bad plumber and clearly others have had success with him based on the other reports. The price he charged was very high and I wanted people to know that. Very strange experience.

The job needed a few tweaks before it was perfect, but Carmine and his sons diligently followed up and took care of everything. Everyone on the team was a pleasure to work with -- super responsive, thorough, and professional -- they even have matching t-shirts.
Description of Work: We had a water spigot installed in an indoor bathroom so that we can attach a garden hose to use outside for watering plants on our balcony (we have a lot of plants). There is no outdoor water source on the balcony, and we thought our only option would be to break through walls and have a spigot installed outside -- Carmine Aumenta suggested this alternative solution (which also happened to cost a lot LESS money) and we are so glad that he did.

I had called on Monday to set up an appointment for Wednesday. I had left for a business trip so my wife received Carmine and his son. They were prompt and after looking at the kitchen sink they gave my wife the estimate, I also spoke to him on the phone. He assured me that quality products would be used. We mentioned the other work and he agreed to complete that for no additional charge. Carmine and his son worked efficiently and got the work done in 1-1/2 hours. They cleaned up after themselves. The work was clean and most of all we had our sink fixed.

I had a pipe that was part of my bathtub plumbing leaking inside the wall as well as a drip from the bath faucet. I called Carmine and quickly came to inspect and did some intial work to see what the problem was. As there was no other way of entry, the best course of action was to bust one of the tiles on the wall to work on the problem. it was a really tight space and I was glad that he only broke the one tile and was able to get into the wall and do what needed to be done to fix the plumbing and replaced some of the parts. Both Carmine and his son were very easy to get along with, informative, and professional. I'm really happy with the work they did in such a small space. The work was done in two separate sessions. As they don't do the tile work, they were also able to refer me to a tile guy they normally work with so that I could replace and mount a new piece of tile where the broken tile used to be. His work and profressionalism was top notch as well. Overall, the whole experience was great and will definitely use their services again in the future should I need to. Thanks guys!

This is an update to a previous report. As described above Mr. Aumenta was hired to replace all of the valves throughout my condominium. Five months later while attempting to have my dishwasher installed, it was discovered that the valves underneath the kitchen sink (which were near the garbage disposal), were never replaced. I contacted Mr. Aumenta to have the matter resolved. Despite having an invoice in my possession stating that the valves for all units were to be replaced, Mr. Aumenta said that I clearly "misunderstood" that "all valves" only meant the valves in the bathroom. Fine, however, before I could arrange to have him complete the work, Mr. Aumenta became extremely defensive and nasty. I guess the adage is true -- you get what you pay for. Anyone using this business should BEWARE. I have never met such an unprofessional business person in all of my life and clearly the price that I was so happy with was due to the fact that it covered only a fraction of the services that were promised.

I am usually the person who answers all calls that come into my office and I honestly do not recall ever speaking to this person..I pride myself on being professional at all times when speaking to customers. I do not nor have I ever provided service in her area because of the distance and that is why I could not accommodate her. I'm sorry that she took my refusal to help her the wrong way and felt that I had an attitude and was hostile which was not the case.
