Overall, I'm satisfied with a passing grade. Initial appointment and set-up (with Jenn) for the service were above average(4/5). The mitigation test was done correctly and promptly. Setting the appointment for the installation was easy. The overall installation was satisfactory. However, it was below my expectations as (1) a dedicated separate electric outlet should have been used instead of an existing one I used in the garage for my mosquito control unit. If required, an additional outlet is included in the estimate for the work provided. (2) the fan's wire should have been appropriately put, as any loose wires (which we had) might have been caught in the garage tracks. Below the grades given for James Soos (the guy with the cowboy hat), I would give him a below grade for his interaction with customers (not friendly acts like these jobs are below his grades). He also messed up our porch and carpets with his dirty shoes. My expectation for people who come inside our house is to have shoe protection. I would give him a failing grade (2/5). Otherwise, the installation was okay, and the tech who installed the fan and the pipes was excellent (4/5). Additional electric work James Soos (the cowboy hat guy) did was above average (4/5), though not personable (2.5/5). Post mitigation testing was done properly and was easy.

I'm sorry that your interaction with Jim wasn't more positive. I had an employee call out that day and Jim was filling in for him and the extra electrical work took longer then expected. My crew worked over time that day in order to get all the work done of two trucks so we didn't have to cancel anyone's appointments.

Scheduled an appointment for technician to arrive between 8:30-9:30am. At 9:25 I called the company to confirm service was still coming. I work night shift and had politely explained to the woman who answered that I would need to reschedule since the tech was going to be late. (I had just got home at 7am from my own job and stayed up patiently waiting) Rather than calmly explaining to me how far away the technician was, a woman (I think Sandy) screamed at me: “are you kidding me, you want to reschedule, lose my number” and hung up on me. I record conversations with companies for proof, so I have this entire conversation. I then texted the phone number advising them of the review I would be posting. I immediately received a call back from the number, which I answered hoping it was someone of management or supervision other than the woman who shouted at me. To my surprise it was the same woman, but this time she screamed at me louder about how high gas prices are and stated her technician drove all the way from PA for my appointment. She belittled me further by dismissing my reasonable request to reschedule by saying “it’s not my problem you work night shift” via text message. I can’t post the screen shot here, but beware if you need to have your appointment time honored, prepare for a verbal lashing. I’m usually extremely patient and understanding, but this woman went off the deep end immediately with me. I am thankful that she showed the lack of professionalism of this company, as I’m sure the service was probably not far from similar.

It is because of customers like you that companies like comcast give a 5 hour window. The reason being is there can be unanticipated amount of traffic, accidents, inclement weather and so forth. You are at the best time of day a full hour away from us. This particular morning the drive took an hour and a half. If my tech had been an hour after the expected arrival window I would have been understanding because I get that people have things going on but since he was driving down the street at the time of our conversation with an expected time of 9:32 I felt it was unreasonable of you to cancel. Any other company in my business would have charged you a cancellation fee and I did not. If you would have just allowed my tech to come he would have completed his service in 20 minutes but instead you chose to stay up after your night shift crafting cyber bullying slanderous review for an extra hour. It is common knowledge that recording a conversation with out the other persons knowledge is against the law. You didn't speak to Sandy by the way you spoke to the owner. The reason I was upset is because you wasted my time and money over 2 minutes. I had to pay the technician for 3 hours and pay for his gas, not to mention his car insurance and liability insurance and all of the expenses that go into owning a small business and again I did not charge you a cancellation fee which I had every right to do. There are not a lot of benefits to owning your own business. There are a lot of hats to wear and a lot of hours worked that you are never paid for. One reason I chose this life for myself is so that I would not have to work with customers like you. It is very rare that I refuse to work for someone for any reason but your unreasonable nature is simply unacceptable. It is also understood online that by writing a review there was some kind of payment made or exchange of money and there has been non so your review is there for invalidated entirely.

Soos Radon was very responsive to my need for radon remediation in connection with the impending sale of my former residence. They were able to provide a quote over the phone and to set up prompt installation. The installers arrived at the scheduled time, were courteous and professional and left the property as clean as they found it. Satisfactory re-test results were received quickly. All in all a surprisingly easy process that took 2 weeks from initial contact to receiving the re-test results. I would not hesitate to use Soos Radon again.

When I contacted the company on a Monday, I spoke with Jennifer. She was able to email me an estimate that afternoon, and we were able to schedule the installation for the next day. The installer arrived on time, was very professional, and only took two hours to install the system. I was sent an invoice on Wednesday to bring the job to a quick end. My experience with Soos was pleasant from start to finish, and I would highly recommend them.

By describing my basement, I was able to get an estimate over the phone. I have a partial basement with a crawlspace requiring 2 suction points. The estimate was very easy to understand in that there were no extra costs for permits, sealing parts of the french drain, electrical work and whatever else was needed to get my radon levels below the acceptable limit. Other estimates I have gotten had these items and more as add-ons. This made the Soos Radon and Electric estimate very competitive. The crew arrived right on time. Before starting, we were given an explanation of all that would be done. They sealed my sump pit, about 30 feet of my french drain, drilled for 2 suction points and installed a pipe to the outside and above the roofline with a fan to draw out the radon. The crew was clean, polite, knowledgeable and completed the work in a timely manner. One thing worth mentioning is that the crew included a licensed electrician. Everything looked very neat and clean. After the job, we were given a walkthrough of the entire system and given very clear instructions on how to set up the required "after" radon test. As expected, we passed. But if we didn't pass, Soos would have come back and taken additional measures at no additional cost. We were also told to make an appointment with the township for an inspection (not yet done as of when writing this review). I'm sure we will pass the inspection also.

It want great. they were very professional. They where able to give me a quote over the phone and schedule an install date. They arrived on time, tested my slab and said they wouldn't need to seal the French drain, They asked if I still wanted to seal it, if not it would save me money. I decided to have it sealed anyway. The piping we currently running through the house and out the roof, which also saved me some money. They were extremely honest and from my original quote the price was reduced $250.00. I was very happy with the service and the professional workmanship. I would definitely use the again and I highly recommend them.

We moved into a home about two weeks. A week after we noticed the fan was whining louder than the first week. We thought it was normal the fan was now working. Checked the manometer, noticed the fan was not pulling any pressure and moisture seemed to be seeping from the floor. His wife suggested checking the sump pump which was very close to the base of the mitigation unit. The sump pump was completely dried. John called an hour before the promised time and came out, which was perfect with my schedule this am. He explained the moisture was actually coming from the PVC joint half way up in the air. Sealed the joint with some PVC compound. The fan was shot, replaced it and the manometer is now pulling the way it should. Fairly high price in mark up on the fan. But he got the problem fixed and thoroughly explained how the system works. They may not be the cheapest, but definitely get the job done right. Thanks!

I had hired another company to install a radon remediation system in my basement ($1900+). The post-remediation test failed. I called the company one time and communicated via email three times. After the third email, I never heard from them. I contacted Soos Radon and Electric to see if they would come and correct the problems. John Soos came quickly and determined that the other company had never actually sealed the french drain around the perimeter of the basement...no surprise that the post-remediation test failed. He also agreed to install two fire collars on the plastic pipe that had been run through our garage to aesthetically vent the radon gas; this had failed the building inspection. Mr. Soos and his team, both friendly competent men, came at the appointed time and quickly performed the fixes. I hadn't expected the owner to come to make sure that every thing went well...that's 'owning the problem' in action! The post-remediation test passed and the building inspector passed the system. I would definitely recommend this company.

Initial estimate/discussions were handled very well and everyone was professional and responsive. We weren't sure if it was possible to install the system inside versus outside the house. They brought all equipment and supplies needed for either an indoor or outdoor system. They were very patient and willing to work with us to customize the system exactly as we wanted it. The resulting installation running from the slab in the basement through the garage and into the attic, including the fan, was first class. Test results from the post-mitigation radon test just came in and was reduced from 5 pCi/l to 0.6 pCi/l. Overall, they were great to work with and we would highly recommend Soos Radon.

October 2005 Soos Radon replaced a radon fan in our property. September 2012, we hired another company to check the system because it had stopped working. Upon inspection, the new Radon Specialist discovered that the fan had been installed wrong. Soos Radon had installed it upside down and it therefore was blowing the radon gas back into the property rather than our of the house. We tested for radon and the levels came back at 30, a healthy level is below 30. We documented the the improper installation and then reinstalled the whole system to bring it up to code and to mitigate the property. Now the radon level is 2.5. We called the DEP, Department of Environmental service who first contacted John Soos of Soos Radon to inform them of the issue. We were informed that Mr. Soos' reaction was disbelief that he or someone in his company could have made that mistake and he was willing to discuss a refund of the services. We then contacted Mr. Soos directly to discuss and work out the details. Since he had some time to think about how serious this mistake was and what sort of health problems his mistake could cause, his tone had dramatically changed, he was on the defense. At the start of the conversation, he said " go ahead and unburden yourself if you want". As the discussion progressed, he became increasingly rude. Basically, Mr. Soos is claiming he has no record of the details of the job and he claims that in some cases a radon fan may be installed upside down depending on the format of the original system. He ended the conversation saying that now he was not willing to refund the money because he is afraid it will show that he did something wrong. He is trying to absolve himself of any guilt in case someone becomes sick in the future. Upon further investigation, I discovered two things that prove his theory of "the upside down installation". Mr. Soos called the radon specialist who we hired to mitigate the property. He was combative with him and also claimed it might have been installed upside down on purpose but my new radon specialist told him that if it was supposed to be upside down than he failed to seal off parts of the basement so the radon gas was escaping into the property anyway. Also, we looked at the radon systems of some of our neighbors who have the same set up and NO one had a fan upside down. Bottoms line is Soos Radon will only refund the money if I sign a release form which absolves them of any future legal action. They know that exposure to radon can cause cancer and they are worried about the severity if the situation. It's hard to say whether my family has been effected by the radon exposure but we are upset by the situation.

The responses were excellent from my initial call to the company, through installation of the system and a follow up visit to check a fan noise level. But, I feel there was a misrepresentation at the time of the initial visit regarding my question about the amount of noise to be expected from the system. I was told by Sam that the fan noise would be very low. Based on his response I had the exterior fan placed on the most accessible location, which is my exterior bedroom wall. I called the company a couple of days after the installation because I was unable to sleep in that bedroom due to the fan noise. They did respond promptly and came back to the house the next work day. But the outcome is I was told this was the usual amount of noise and it could not be reduced except by shutting off the fan (system) at night. If I had been given the correct information at the initial meeting I would have sought an alternate location for the system.
Description of Work: Installed a sub-slab ventilation system in the basement using a Radon/Away cetrifugal fan. Venting with the fan located on the outside of the house. Included electrical hookup. Sealed detectable points of radon entry. Included pre and post radon measurements. Included plans and permits.
