I contacted the company as a new customer. I was asked a series of question to which I answered. They quoted me a price of $115. They pushed to schedule at least four additional cleanings for the year. I found this to be a little aggressive and overkill. Next they asked for payment up front. I told them I pay for services after they are complete. They finally agreed to do the work first. Next we tried scheduling an appointment. Their first response was "you don't need to be home". I said as a first time customer I wish to be home so I can see the work being performed and I want to talk to the technician about my concerns and how they will be addressed. The company says they do not operate that way. I said forget it and right away they said I can be given a date but not a time. Reluctantly I agreed. The technicians came to my home and sat in the driveway. My friend walked out to ask them to come to the door to chat. They refused. Almost simultaneously I get a phone call from a company rep stating they grossly underpriced the job and now they wanted $250. I was upset and felt the bait and switching was beginning. While on the phone with the rep the techs left. I finally agreed to pay the $250 trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that they truly underestimated the size of the job. So I asked the rep to bring them right back so I can watch them complete the work and I can carry on with the rest of my day. The rep said he will try to get them back but insisted I did not need to be there. I said I want to show the tech my concerns and make sure they are addressed. The rep said the tech doesn't speak much English. I asked for another tech and the rep said many of the techs don't speak much English. I had nothing against the tech but I found it very frustrating that I was not going to be able to converse with the tech to discuss my concerns that I wanted addressed. After establishing a relationship with a company I could understand not having to be home. But the initial service the homeowner should be allowed to experience face to face. The company did not comprehend the importance of demonstrating and discussing my concerns in person. I told the company forget it and I hired someone else. Being fair, I did not rate "quality" since they never actually did any work. My complaint revolves mostly around business practices.

We have just started using them and they have come to my house twice so far. They were reasonably priced considering our house. We have had a little miscommunication in the beginning with the sales people but the work was fine. The miscommunication was apparently because when they came and looked at the job we had explained to them that there is a hole in the roof where the gutter went and checked with them if they would patch it. This would have been a problem because we wouldn’t have been able to run the gutter if there is a hole in the roof. They said they would be able to patch it but when the workers came out they didn’t put up that section of the gutter and then they called us and informed us that they couldn’t do it. We had to go back and forth. It was a communication issue between the sales men, people who do the estimate and the workers but it got straightened out. We didn’t come home and find a mess because they had cleaned everything.

I have been using Ned Stevens for 15 years. Their contracts are reasonable, if not cheap, and they do a great job. If you purchase their higher end annual contracts, you get priority for "emergency" cleanings. They are ALWAYS courteous and punctual, and call in advance of the first and last cleanings of the season to ensure that your water is on (otherwise you get a "dry" cleaning, without flushing the leaders and gutters). They have replaced a section of leaking gutter for me (a separate truck comes to do gutter repair), and have NEVER tried to upsell me anything that was not an obvious need. They will also change outside security light bulbs that require a ladder for an additional charge (they get $20 per bulb, they should charge $20 for the first one, and only the cost of bulbs for the additional ones, but why quibble). Only problem I ever had is when the weather prevents them from coming in the fall, and we are surrounded by trees, but that is not their fault.

My experience with them has been fine and they do a good job. They are very prompt and they come when they say they're going to come. If I need them at a special date or I see my gutters are getting bad they will come whenever I call. They do their job and do what you hire them for. I've never had a problem with them in probably the 4 or 5 years we've been using them.

They answered the phone promptly and the promised service, while on the high side, was prompt as well. My problem with them was that the person answering the phone immediately began to press for a long-term contract. The next thing I knew, he was talking about a $1,000/year commitment to clean my gutters!! I am familiar with the practice of upselling but to go from a $200 gutter cleaning to a yearly commitment of $1,000 seems over the top to me. Especially since I had never seen them perform the service.

The workers did a good job of cleaning the gutters. However, the aftermath is where we were concerned. The office staff called to say that the workers found the gutters to not be working properly due to incorrect "pitch", but that the company could install new gutters with the right pitch. We declined that offer. Then we were contacted by the company more than 10 times in the past several months and advised of the company's service schedule per year, etc. The yearly cost (for which the company claims they come out 5 times yearly) was slightly more than $1,200. That's too expensive! Moreover, we asked them to stop calling us, but we received two more calls thereafter.

I've used them four or five times, and Ned Stevens did a good job at what they were hired to do. They cleaned my gutters well, showed up when they said they would, and the two times I was home while they worked, the men were courteous and hard working. If it ended there, I would give them a better review. My issue with Ned Stevens is solely with their sales department. These people can be very aggressive. They offer a package where you can essentially pre-purchase four gutter cleanings. They offered this to me when I booked them for the first time. I declined, as I wanted to see what kind of job they did before committing to them for four cleanings. The sales person was somewhat pushy, but nothing crazy. After that cleaning, they called regularly to schedule seasonal cleanings and usually pushed the pre-purchase option. They can get pushy about this, but again, nothing crazy. Then my wife and I decided we wanted to make some changes to our gutters. It was not for performance. The changes were mostly aesthetic in nature. We got about four companies, including Ned Stevens, to give us estimates. We were scheduled for a cleaning anyway, so Ned Stevens had the crew foreman do the estimate. The crew worked hard and did a solid job, but the foreman unfortunately spoke very poor English and I had difficulty communicating what work we wanted. A short time later, Ned Stevens sent me a proposal, even though I was not sure their man had understood exactly what we wanted to do. Later I got a call about the proposal. When I told the sales person that we were reviewing it and would get back to them, she asked me what was preventing me from hiring them right now. I was honest and told them I was expecting more proposals. She pretty much lectured me at this point, and very aggressively tried to get me to hire them. I hung up the phone, and my phone rang literally less than 10 seconds later with a different sales person from Ned Stevens trying to convince me to hire them. A day or so later, I got an email stating that the foreman had found problems during our last cleaning and that I should call to discuss them. So, of course I called expecting to hear about some problem. It turned out the "problem" was the work I had them bid on. When I realized this, I told the sales person we were not ready to make a decision, and that once my wife and I had reviewed all the proposals I would call him. Without missing a beat, he asked if he could have my wife's phone number so he could talk to her directly! I laughed and told him no, he could not have her number. I left a few phone calls out of this description, but needless to say they had called me many times with varying degrees of aggressiveness. They seem pretty good and reasonably priced at gutter cleaning, but along with their cleaning comes their sales department, and with other options out there it's just not worth it.

I would give Ned Stevens a perfect score if it were not for their overly aggressive follow up marketing. My gutters need some work. They noticed and called me to discuss. Despite being told that I would call them when I decide to do it, they continued to call, email and postal mail me over and over. Each time I told them to stop, but my requests were ignored. They even had the nerve to call, yet again, under the pretense of a "courtesy" call. It has been a few months since I have been contacted, so perhaps they finally got the message, but it took far too long (years!). The irony, of course, is in their attempt to increase business, they drove me away by becoming pests. That said, they did an excellent job, but I can't award them with more business after such an aggravating communications experience.

Description of Work: I've used Ned Stevens for a couple of years now. Most of the time I'm not home when they come, but I know they were here because the invoice is hanging on the door. Also, there is almost always a little debris at the bottom of my downspouts. On one visit I happened to be cleaning out my garage. The guys saw me moving a rather heavy piece of equipment and asked to help. I really appreciate that small act of generosity. Most important to me, they are insured and have no objection proving it. I had one company actually laugh at me when I asked to see proof of insurance. They said they couldn't show me for "privacy reasons." I told them "then you are not getting on my roof."

The good - 1) easy to use website to set up an account, request service, get an estimate 2) also called them to ensure I did it correctly and they promptly returned my call 3) came out within a day or two 4) issue fixed The bad - 1) had to pay upfront on the website 2) job took about 10 minutes, so clearly flat fee price not fair; should have been a service call rate then a per hour rate additional The ugly - 1) I spoke with a rep after my cleaning was provided to inquire how a large cost, yet so little time on site. He could not answer: a) exactly how long they were there (they don't checkin / checkout w/ the home office that they've arrived and are done??); b) how much debris was cleaned out. 2) He then told me that somehow I need ALL NEW gutters in an area that I've never seen a problem. Quoted $630 (or $670) for all new gutters in that section. 3) I immediately wrote a note on the website asking to better understand the situation. Still haven't heard back...However, I have gotten 1 or 2 calls since then about if I have any questions on the quote and if I want to sign-up for scheduled gutter cleaning (which I checked the box on the website that I don't). I also got an email about the quote, where the note included a comment from Consumer Reports that poor gutters = poor foundation issues. Bottom Line: It is pouring today (at the time I am writing this; that's why I waited to send this review) and I see no issues in that area for the proposed new gutters. Granted, i'm not an expert and I'm on the ground 30 feet below...but the water is flowing thru the gutters like crazy, and i see only a small leak / gap / apparent hole in 1 corner of that gutter area. Silicone? Caulk? Will not use this company again, and very disappointed in their repeated "push" for new gutters, yet not answering my questions and getting me comfortable with what occurred. If they did...then I likely wouldn't be writing this... While I have very high expectations (on everything) and often very critical, this is customer service 101...

This review is confusing for me. We were hired to come out and perform a gutter cleaning service. We performed that service quickly and efficiently, all of the gutters are flowing perfectly, and we found a large leak in a corner piece which the customer has admitted to seeing for themselves in the rain. So I am confused as to what we did wrong that would earn us a grade as poor as a "D". As for pre-payment, all services booked on the internet are pre-paid. Pre-payment is mandatory for all goods and services purchased over the internet with all businesses as the potential for fraud is so great. With regard to the quick service, gutters that have not been cleaned in 13 years cannot be cleaned in 10 minutes. Additionally, it takes 6 minutes for a typical crew to arrive, review the job in their computer, set up ladders, hook up to the hose, announce themselves, and begin the job. Therefore, the service was longer than 10 minutes, but may have simply felt faster as time can go by quickly. With regard to the problem we found, you agreed that the mitre was leaking in the rain, and that is exactly what the crew found. To replace a miter, you should not re-seal it. You need to replace it. Sealant will not stick to an old miter for more than a few months. It must adhere to a new surface. As such, the gutters need to be replaced. If you find a company that will cut corners and do a cheap, temporary repair, you are getting what you paid for. Again, we are sorry you are disappointed, but we performed the service requested, quickly, efficiently and professionally, and did a thorough inspection that found a true problem, and followed up with you to advise you of its existence and give you replacement options. I do not believe that should yield a "D" rating.

This member has the wrong company. We set up a service plan for him in 2011 at $130 per cleaning, not $60. At the first job we learned that we could not do the work because the customer had covers over his gutters that could not be removed. As such, we could not guarantee our work. The customer's money was refunded in full and we have never returned to the property. Remember, covers don't work. All systems let small debris into the gutters, and that small debris eventually clogs every single system. Just leave the gutters open and clean them on a regular basis. That is all gutters need: regular cleaning and maintenance. Lastly, be cautious of companies who clean gutters for $60. These days, insurance costs are sky high for any type of work involving ladders, and I assure you that any company charging $60 per cleaning is not insured to do work on a ladder (which is an entirely different level of insurance). Only use companies that are licensed, insured, and have been in business for many years. It's your home, trust it to experts. Ned Stevens is licensed, fully insured, and has been cleaning and installing gutters for nearly 50 years.

The service is fine but thier business practices are horrible. They put you on plans and come at times that make no sense. In one case they claim orally they came twice in one month and they will not explain why or provide proof of the second service. They are very rude to deal with when you have a complaint. They insist that the double billing is correct. Do not let them put you on a plan. Owner called after listening to message. He understood why I was upset and had employee apologize. He also revised schedule to a time frame that makes sense. He was very responsive to my concerns.

While I am always upset to see an unhappy customer, and I am sorry that you are upset, I can tell you that we only did exactly what was asked of us. With the exception of 2008, we have been cleaning your gutters on this same schedule since 2007 or earlier (our records only go back as far as 2007). This schedule includes 2 fall services (one early fall, one late fall). I am not certain why you are upset with the schedule now. Our basic service schedule is an early spring service as a cleaning and tune up due to usual winter storm damage, so that you are ready for the April showers, a service in June for the debris that falls when trees reproduce, and 2 fall services: one early fall to get the first wave of leaves, and one late fall before the winter freeze. That is our basic seasonal-type schedule. The only schedule more popular is our Diamond Plan, which adds a cleaning in August for the summer thunderstorm debris and a third fall cleaning (which, again, is our most popular plan). Your schedule was selected by you, authorized by you, and we sent an email to you confirming the service schedule (as we do every year when you renew the schedule). As such, the services were authorized. However, rudeness is not tolerated. It is the JOB of the phone operator to be helpful and make your life more pleasant. Although the person that you spoke with is a very nice, kind, warm person (so I'm shocked), I will listen to that call and make sure that it was handled properly. I am very sorry if you did not get happy, pleasant customer support from him.

I use them for gutter cleaning. We were leaving on a long trip and that morning my gutter fell down. I called them and told them we were leaving and we had an emergency. They came literally an hour later and did a terrific and very thorough job replacing the gutter. They even checked out the ones next to it to make sure everything was secure. They were very nice and polite and responsive to my questions. I asked them if the board holding the gutter needed replacement and they told me it didn't. Very nice and honest company that does great work.

Ned Stevens Gutter Cleaning is a great company and I am very happy to recommend them. Yes, it is a little expensive, but after what we have been through with gutters full of debris, companies that didn't clean them out, companies that left a mess, companies that left gutters broken on the house, we are glad to pay it because we know that the gutters will stay clean and operate correctly. It is a real pleasure to have Ned Stevens take care of our gutters.
Description of Work: This is the third year I've signed up for their Diamond Service, and I couldn't be happier. My husband had a scare on a ladder, and so he won't go up and clean the gutters. We have a lot of trees and mess so we always had clogged gutters. It was a continuing problem we just couldn't seem to solve. We suffered through other companies who didn't clean them right, didn't fix if something was broken or a nail was out, etc. We even used those guys that come to the door and want to clean your gutter and I was so afraid someone would fall and I'd be liable. So that has all gone away using Ned Stevens. They come 6 times a year. They give me an estimate of when they are coming, usually a week or two window. They clean the gutters quickly and efficiently. They use the hose to make sure the gutters are cleaned out. They bag the trash in a black trash bag and leave it on the curb. (I had some gutter cleaners in the past who left the mess thrown around the yard!) One thing about signing up for the Diamond Service is that they will come the same day or the next if I have a problem. They are right there. I really appreciate how Ned Stevens has taken all the worry and stress about my gutters away from me. Also, since I pay the year in advance, I don't have to worry about paying the bill. They come, clean the gutter, leave me a receipt marked 'paid' (and also email one to me) and then they are gone. One other thing: my mother's house had clogged gutters. They had to clean out her gutters by taking the gutter covers off, but then they put them back on. I couldn't get another company to agree to take the time to do this. All in all, I am very happy with Ned Stevens Gutter Cleaning.

I like my gutters changed late, which is after Thanksgiving because it takes a long time for all the leaves from the trees to come down. They like to come in sometime in October. They do that because then one has to have them come back around Thanksgiving. Then they get their money twice. But I use Ned Stevens simply because they are the people I know. They do a fine job as long as they have access to a water outlet. I don’t even have to be home. They do a fine job. I don’t have any control; I just need to call them. They choose when they are going to come. I don’t choose that. As for professionalism they always send out guys that don’t speak English. One year I wanted it done soon after Thanksgiving as it had got cold early they kept saying that the guys in my area are not available and it turned out to be a mess. But I do not know anybody else to use for gutter cleaning.

Thank you for your review. However some of the facts may be mistaken. You say we cleaned your gutters in October. For the past 2 years the respective fall dates for service have been 12/19/2010: RC 4:15pm and 12/23/2011: EM 2PM. Nonetheless, we have customers who actually need to have their gutters cleaned numerous times in the fall and even throughout the year. It all depends on your home and the trees and foliage that surround it. All of our crews have at least 1 english speaking crew member.
