I was about to go with another company for my kitchen granite installs but had a bad feeling due to some things I'd read on reviews, so I called others and spoke with Josh (one of the owners) at Eco Stoneworks, had a great conversation, saw some good reviews online, and decided to go with them. He had a templater come up the next day to template both properties! Claudio was great. 1 wk later they came to install and were hours late, so I couldn't stay to oversee the job at my personal kitchen. We paid in full, in cash, on the spot for the 2-kitchen entire job. When I came home to see my kitchen, there were a few areas I was unhappy with (a gap along a cabinet wall, a BIG gap along a wall that looked like the backsplash was cut too long, and a miscommunication about the length of a countertop at a peninsula. I took digital photos and emailed them prior to calling so we'd be on the same page about the issues. Josh promised to have it addressed but then didn't return my calls. I called back and spoke with another owner, Rick, who likes to talk more than listen, and a "blame the customer" hothead, spoke to me like I was an idiot and continually told me about all the jobs he's done successfully, how many years he's done kitchens, etc.... I only care about MY kitchen at this point and want my issues addressed, or at least looked at. I talk with other granite people, look at several other granite installs in peoples' homes that I know...NOBODY has caulk-filled gaps that Eco Stoneworks tells me is "normal" They blame the walls, but one of the gaps is against a pre-fab cabinet...a perfectly straight wall, non-sheetrock/non-plaster wall. They send Claudio back, I cave on some things just to get the job overwith, but I do insist that the big gap be taken care of. Weeks go by before I get a call from somebody who says he's AT my house (they never made an appointment!) and can't I leave my work and come home to let them in. More weeks go by with zero communication, and I call and leave a message for Josh. No return call. Another week. I call again, still no Josh. I make an appointment with a staff person (4-hr window), but original templater/installer/person I'd discussed issues with on-site can't come to finish the job (they're SO busy with jobs in Chicago, big buildings, etc...I'm just a homeowner)..., they're sending someone else. I've already gone over everything with Claudio, the one constant with this whole job! Then she puts Rick on the phone (the full-of-hot-air-guy), who again talks without listening and proceeds to insult both me and my kitchen now!! It's 2 months since my install, and I just want my kitchen to not look like a hack-job!! (my dad asked if we'd installed the granite ourselves!) I thought I was a pretty good customer, but I guess they have bigger and better things to do than to satisfy a customer who's already paid! So stressful!
Description of Work: I had granite countertops with granite backsplash installed at 2 properties on the same day. (templated 1 wk prior)

Response from Eco Stoneworks
Let me start by saying that the member was a good customer but does not have any experience in granite countertops. When i scheduled the job with her I told her it would be at 9am. She told me that her son would have to get out of bed to be awake for the appointment. This was not ideal becaue he stays up until all hours of the night. GET A JOB. The gap she is to referring behind the backsplash was a product of her wall not being straight. We tried explaining this to her several times and even sent an installer to finish it with caulking when this isn't something that we normally do. The factory panel she is talking about is a straight piece of wood that would normally be tight against the countertop. the problem is that the panel was floating next to the dishwasher and not screwed to anything. her formica countertop probably had a screw that connected the two. It is not possible to screw the granite to the panel and we are not responsible for cabinet work. We are more than happy to work with contractors or cabinet guys to make the install come out as nice as possible but she had none of these on site. When Claudio went to amke the template he removed her countertops including the one on the island where she claims it came out wrong. After expalining to her that Granite has different standards than formica she proceeded to tell me that she already had granite on the island previously. Claudio assured me that this wan't the case. I'm not calling her a liar but she was certainly confused about what type of countertop she previously had. She stopped pressing this non isssue because she realized she was in the wrong. We had set up two appointments with her to address these issues and she missed both appointments. When she said her father asked her if she did the countertops herself is was shocked. She would have to have a bridge saw and CNC set up in her garage to make this happen. I don't think this remark came because of the workmanship but because he had no idea of what the process was to end up with a finished granite countertop. I can say that we will go back to any job until the customer is happy even if it is an issue that has nothing to do with our workmanship. I have pages upon pages of good reviews from customers that are due to putting out a quality product. Don't let one persons opinion that clearly has no idea of what is correct or incorrect be a factor in your decision.
