I found Kevin on Angie's List and he lived up to his rating! The one thing that really stands out with Kevin is his honesty. It became very clear early on that Kevin is not looking for a quick buck but rather to earn your business over the long haul, and that he did. Kevin took the time to learn why I contacted him in the first place and then made recommendations based off of that. This led to recommendations that saved me and cost him (in the short term anyway) money. I would highly recommend Kevin. If he's the right man for the job, he'll do quality work. If he's not, he'll let you know rather than cheat you out of a hard earned dollar.

Kevin arrived as promised to provide the quotation. He was able to obtain the bulhead locally where it was instock at a price comparable to the big box stores. He also arrived as scheduled to remove the old bulkhead and install the new. The installation went smoothly and was finished in a professional manner. The quality of the finish paint job was excellent.
Description of Work: The bulhead door with extension to the basement required replacement. Kevin quoted a turnkey installation which involved obtaining the new bulkhead, removal and disposal of the old bulkhead, installation and painting.

Wish there were more like him. Kevin came by to look at our kitchen for a quick remodel. He ended up recommending other folks for the job due to structural issues. He was unbelievably helpful, professional, and pleasant, and saved us a lot of time and money by being honest and helping us focus our project in a better way. I was just sorry we didn't get to work with him more, but he will be our first call for our next house project. I am also recommending him without reservation to friends of mine who just bought a new house in need of a ton of work.

Kevin contacted me almost immediately after I placed the request, gave us an estimate on a list of items we wanted done and then kept in touch over the next couple of weeks as he sourced the material needed for the job. The work was completed as promised and done with good quality and professionalism. Would recommend Kevin highly.
Description of Work: Replaced screen doors, replaced shutters, repaired door frames and fixed roof beam in attic
Kevin did an excellent job of all the work we asked of him. We had a sliding door that fell off the slider but was embedded in the wall. He cut open the wall to reinstall the sliding door on the track and then repaired the dry wall so the repair naturally blended back on the wall. After the paint, the wall looks like it was before. We also asked him to replace and install towel racks and now those racks are firmly connected to the wall. Way better than when I installed the first ones. he also help us replace a broken screen on our screen door. From the very start, Kevin was very professional, arriving on time, working immediately, completing the work in a timely manner, and keeping it clean. Kevin is obviously focused on excellent work and not leaving a mess. I will definitely ask Kevin to work on our future house projects.

Kevin has done a number of projects for us over the last few months. He has reset a twisted door frame, replaced a set of railings that were rotted on a portico, done both interior and exterior painting, fixed some squeaky floors, cleared some wooded areas for us and more. Kevin is great to work with and he has many skills. And, he is not afraid to say he lacks the skill to do a project if he is not fully comfortable. That is refreshing. He also calls the night before coming to confirm and he shows up on time. I am so frustrated with other contractors who don't return phone calls or who show up two hours after they said they would. That does not happen with Kevin. He respects your time too and that is a big deal. We will definitely use Kevin of KP again!
Description of Work: A number of different projects
The front porch went great. We had to go away for the week-end but he asked if he could do the work we said yes and when we came home from Ct. it was done. He called the next day to see if we liked it and if we did we could pay him or if not he would come back and do it different. We didn't need to have him back. The back deck just needed a board , he told us when he could come and he was here that day and it looked good.
Description of Work: He replaced our front steps and fixed the rest of the loose front porch. We also had him fix a board on the back deck.

Kevin was able to fit us into his busy schedule. He spoke with me on the phone, set up an appointment to evaluate the job, and gave us a quote and dates for more than 1 job. First, he had to replace a basement door that had a broken (nonexistent) doggie door. During June it rained a lot and water was getting into the basement. He scheduled us for Thursday, 7/11/13 in the morning. He called the night before to confirm. He showed up Thursday morning, but it started to rain, so he told me he would schedule it for the next day (Friday). Friday morning he had to push back the start time, so he called me to give me a new start time. Kevin arrived and went right to work. He removed the old door and installed the new one. Kevin did a great job with the installation and clean up of the old door. He will be coming back in August to do additional work for us on our new home.
Description of Work: Kevin installed a new basement door that the previous homeowner had bought and left with the home when we bought it.
Perfectly. Kevin arrived when he said he would and discussed each project with us prior to beginning. He took the necessary time to discuss each job and determine the best approach to it. Several times he had the opportunity to do a job in a way that would have taken more time and cost us more, but he didn't do that. In one case, he realized that he needed different materials than he had originally thought, and he did not charge us for his time to go to the hardware store to get the items he needed. Kevin called several times in the two weeks between when we met and when he worked for us, to update us on materials and schedule changes made necessary by delays due to weather. He responded to our phone calls promptly and professionally. His rates are a bit higher than others we interviewed, but in Kevin's case you truly get what you pay for. We've scheduled to have him return to complete several other projects.
Description of Work: Kevin installed new shelving in laundry area, mounted a large jewelry box on a wall, fixed a problem with a garage door, repaired our flag pole, installed a new door closer in a screen door, repaired two drawers that didn't close properly, installed door stoppers. He also analyzed a problem with ceiling tiles we couldn't replace and figured out a way to do it.

Kevin was one of three carpenters I contacted for estimates. He won because his price was fair and he was able to do the door within a good time frame for my needs. We did have a misunderstanding over the type of deadbolt to be used, but aside from that he did a great job of gathering the right materials and installing the door system in a quality fashion. He provided an extra service by putting on a primer coat of paint. I also contracted with him to install a sreen door on another outside door because I have a good feeling about his abilities. I would say he is a talented and reliable craftsman with a professional attitude.
Description of Work: i needed to have a new kitchen door installed, as the door had been damaged due to a forced entry into my house. I needed a new door with added dead bolt.

Kevin was extremely helpful in finding the best possible plan for the projects I needed. He showed up on time and was honest about what he could do and what he couldn't. Great - I would recommend Kevin to anyone looking for quality service
Description of Work: Repair deck and install ceiling strapping
Overall, everything went great! We've used Kevin before and he is prompt, professional, friendly, and hard-working. We will be using him again. The heading for his company may include the word "carpentry" but he is an excellent painter as well. Very thorough and very much a perfectionist when it comes to making sure the color is exactly right and every inch that needs paint is covered. Kevin can do a multitude of different things around the house and every time he's done a job for us, he's done it with speed and excellence.
Description of Work: Kevin did a lot of painting for us over a few days. He primed and painted the whole kitchen as well as a large wall in our family room. He also installed some blinds for us and did various other odd jobs around the house, such as fixing a drawer in our kitchen that was not closing properly.

Kevin came to my home on the same day I called him to provide an estimate for several jobs involving a kitchen. He was a professional through out the estimation process however more importantly Kevin stated that he did not feel comfortable with some cabinet work I was requesting and that I should take caution with going the route I was requesting. Not often do you find individuals that will give up a job because they are concerned with quality and for this reason alone I will be hiring Kevin in the future!

I had originally contacted Kevin a few months ago due to a leaking ceiling in our basement. He came out for a free estimate and determined it was due to the the blowing wind and driving wind we had the week prior. He thought it was coming possibly from the some of the shingles above our sunroom causing water to enter and leak down behind the siding and trickle down into the basement. He gave us an estimate, but told us it was best to do any kind of shingle/roof work after the snow had melted and in warmer weather. He made a note to call us in March. It just so happened in March we had water spots on our ceiling from in a different spot in our family room on the other side of the house away from the previous problem. I called and he was able to come later that week. He determined it was most likely from the melting snow of the blizzard that had found its way in through exposed nail heads and improper sealing where the roof met the side of the house. He gave me an estimate to repair that problem as well as what he thought was causing the previous problem in the basement that was $100's of less than the original estimate months ago due to the fact that snow had now melted and he could see the problem better. How many other carpenters would change their estimate to less than the original after determining they did not have to perform as much work as originally thought? While here, he took his time and did not rush. He walked us through every step of the process and explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it. He walked us around afterwards and made sure we were satisfied with everything he had done. He went into the attic to help us identify potential future problems. He also took measurements for another project we plan to do in the future. We will definitely be using him again in the very near future and will continue to use his services as other problems arise. We would recommend him to anyone looking for a carpenter/handyman.
Description of Work: Kevin sealed some spots on and around the shingles on our roof that were causing water spots on our ceiling. He also fixed a few of our interior doors that were not shutting properly. Some had to be taken off their hinges and cut down, and others had to be adjusted. Kevin also showed us how to close some of our vinyl windows that had become a little warped and did not want to lock properly.
Excellent from start to finish. Very professional, personable and patient. We look forward to having Kevin do more work for us in the near future.
Description of Work: First of all, Kevin is wonderful! He is efficient, conscientious and very hard-working. We had him replace a shower door and put up some railings, install bathroom faucet etc. The shower door was a bit more challenging than he initially thought, and required almost twice the amount of time to install. However, he stuck to his original estimate and did not add on for the extra hours. He is a perfectionist and we are extremely happy with his work. He is also honest - if he feels he cannot or should not do something (i.e. install an electric fixture when he is not certified to do so) he will tell you, and give you the name of someone who is licensed to complete the work.

I have hired Kevin previously for other work and he is fantastic. He is responsive, punctual, courteous and very professional. He cleans up after himself and always asks if we are satisfied with the work. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: I contacted Kevin on Thursday night. We had a shower pipe that was frozen due to a poorly insulated attic. Kevin called me back right away. He rearranged his schedule and came Friday morning, insulated the attic and the problem was resolved. He gave me an estimate for the work and ended up charging me less as it didn't take him as long as he anticipated.
The experience was great. I am a single mom and I felt secure in my decision to hire Kevin after meeting him and how professional he was.
Description of Work: I had a large gap between the house door into the garage. It was very cold in the hallway. He replaced both the main door and the screen door. I Kevin provided an estimate (received 3) and was very fair. He measured, listened to my wants and what I wanted to accomplish. He informed me it would take a week to received the door and sure enough he called when it came in and made an appointment to install the two doors. He arrived and immediately started. He was clean and precise in his work. The process was a great experience. I will definitely hire Kevin again. Already thinking of more projects I need help with.
I contacted Kevin to replace a front door. He was very professional and courteous from the initial phone call. He went over to the house that weekend to look things over and came back with a very reasonable price, if he ran into any problems it would be materials plus $35 an hour for additional work which is very reasonable. There ended up being extensive rot around the front door and window and we realized that there was no felt paper under the siding. Kevin wrapped the house back up and gave me an estimate on taking off the siding on the front of the house (ranch style) basically replacing the wall to the right of the front door, sheetrock and painting the inside, replacing some bad pieces of siding, wrapping the front of the house before residing it and replacing the front door. The cost didn't include the electrician, but Kevin set me up with someone he works with regularly and that worked out very well, he also pulled permits and ordered high quality materials. I'm not in the area right now and Kevin kept me updated with pictures by email and calls in the evenings. He did an EXCELLENT job and I would highly recommend him to anyone needing carpentry, window, door replacement. I'm sure i'll have other work to be done in the future and KP Carpentry will be my first choice.
Description of Work: Initially it was a simple front door replacement that ended up with the siding being removed from the front of the house, rebuilding the wall to the right of the front window, wrapping the front of the house, replacing the siding and installing a front door.

Remodeling an existing kitchen is way harder than starting from scratch. Fortunately, Kevin is an excellent troubleshooter! He respected our desire to take an economical approach to our kitchen project, and helped us figure out ways to get what we wanted, without breaking the bank. He arranged for us to share the cost of a dumpster with another one of his customers, and hauled our construction debris there for us. He got our tall KitchenAid mixer to fit under the existing upper cabinets. He raised the stove legs. He was able to make room under the new counter top for the clips for a stainless steel sink, so that we didn't have to go with an expensive, super heavy cast iron sink, which would have cracked our existing base cabinets. (We'd wanted a stainless steel sink to begin with, but our plumber had thought it wouldn't fit. And we definitely didn't want a heavy sink that might have ended up falling through the floor & down into the basement!) Kevin is great to work with. He always showed up exactly when he said he would, and worked hard while he was here. He clearly takes great pride in his workmanship, and he does an excellent job. He also wiped the counter top and swept the floor. And he did everything we asked. We've already made arrangements with him to do another project for us!
Description of Work: Kevin removed the old tile counter top, installed a new laminate counter top, and enlarged the dishwasher opening, so that our new dishwasher will fit. He also sanded--very inconspicuously!--a section of the upper cabinets, so that we can slide our KitchenAid mixer underneath. He also raised the legs on our stove, so that it's level with the new counter top. He hauled away all the construction debris, and left our kitchen in pristine condition. It looks fabulous!

Overall, our experience with Kevin was totally stellar! He is a very professional, courteous, hard-working young man with a strong work ethic. From his quick return of our call, to his excellently done work, not to mention his friendly demeanor, Kevin was a great person to have doing the work we needed done. We were impressed with his attention to detail (even down to always giving us a call before he was heading over to the house) and to the wonderful job he did in such a timely fashion. We have spoken to him about a few things we'll be needing done inside the house at some point and he has assured us that he can do them all, including taking care of a plumbing issue we're having. So, I would definitely call him both an excellent carpenter as well as a great handyman. We will most definitely be recommending him to our friends and neighbors and will be using him again without a doubt. If you need anything done for up-keep of your house (even above and beyond carpentry) give Kevin a call. He will not disappoint you!
Description of Work: I found KP Carpentry on Angie's List when we were looking to have some outdoor repairs done on our front porch, garage doors, etc. All of the positive reviews he has received are well earned, in my opinion. He returned our call right away and was out to our house very quickly to give us an estimate, which we found extremely reasonable. A few days later he was on the job and had pretty much everything taken care of within about a week. He removed rotting boards from our front porch area and replaced them with new ones that look just perfect there. He also took care of the rotting wood around our garage doors, both replacing and painting them as well. In addition he fixed a hole in the siding of the garage door and helped us with a few other odds and ends such as leveling our air conditioning unit outside.

We had a lot of projects around the house which included replacing a couple of doors. We had tried replace one ourselves and it was a disaster. Needless to say, it's a bathroom door and hasn't closed correctly for about a year. I called at least 4 companies to do the work for us and only one returned my call and was too busy to do the work. I found Kevin online and called him not knowing anything about him or his work. He called me right back, has been incredibly responsive and professional. He estimated all of the work ahead of time and made sure I approved all out-of-pocket costs before he purchased anything. He just finished installing the bathroom door and replacing the frame for the front door. He made sure to celan everything up before he left. We are waiting for the storm to come in which has already been ordered. Hes has done a great job so far and has exceeded my expectations. I am looking forward to him completing the rest of our list. I would definitely recommend Kevin for any construction, carpentry or home repair.
Description of Work: Replaced an interior door and a storm door. Replaced a rotted door frame. We still have several projects that he is coming back to work on.
Overall I am more than happy with the work that Kevin performed, both, the closets, and the hardwood floor. He was very professional, punctual, and responsive throughout the whole process. The quality of his work is superior, I can't imagine anyone doing a better job. As far as price, the $825 estimate including material and labor was in my opinion fair. I imagined it was going to take him a couple of days to do everything, but he managed to finish in about 8 hours or so. Material was probably $300-$400, so labor in this case came out to $50 an hour or so. A little steep, but it would have taken me weeks to do myself, so it's worth it.
Description of Work: I hired Kevin to perform two main tasks, first of which was to install bifold doors on two bedroom closets. Since the closets were completely unfinished and the opening dimensions were non-standard, there was quite a bit of work to be done. I did not understand that it wasn't as simple as screwing down the rail and hanging the doors at first, but Kevin explained and showed it to me during his first visit. What I thought would be a couple hours worth of work was turning out to be a rather complex carpentry project which included framing and finishing the new opening, hanging the doors, and installing molding. In addition, the hardwood floor ended short of closet opening, so there would be a visible gap when the doors were closed. Since I had extra hardwood pieces left over, Kevin cleverly attached them perpendicular to the rest of the floor boards in order to hide this gap, which came out beautiflly. The second part of the job Kevin did for me, was to finish two areas where hardwood floor meets kitchen tile. I had the material, but didn't know what would be the best way to join the two different floor surfaces.

It made a big difference and there is no draft now. The overall experience was excellent. He was very good. The quality of was work was excellent.
Description of Work: He installed a new door in my basement and installed new insulation in my ceiling.
We first met Kevin when we were building our house - he did all of the finish carpentry work and installed all of our cabinets (kitchen and bath). We were impressed by his work and asked him if he could do some other work for us, which he was happy to. First, we had him install a storm door in our basement leading to the bulkhead. He framed it out, installed the door and finished it with sheetrock all around so it could be finished and painted. Next we had him install a plywood floor in our attic (previously it had just been rafters up there). He did a really fantastic job, going around all of the HVAC ducts, and taking care even though it was just an attic. We now have a very sturdy floor to store all of our stuff. We also asked if he would be agreeable to install leaf guards on our gutters, which he did. He's very handy overall, and we're thrilled not to have to clean out our gutters anymore! He did a really nice job here as well. We're having him come back to do a bunch of other things around the house - build out a mudroom closet, build out an office and possibly expand our deck. Kevin is a meticulous worker, very thorough, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced. We're very happy with his work, and so glad we found him! He's a real pleasure to work with - an overall great guy - and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Installed door leading into basement from bulkhead, installed floor in attic and put leaf guards on our gutters.
